What is a good entry level receiver for A/B audio switching?

I'd like an entry level receiver that allows A, B, and preferably A+B audio options for multi-room audio. A Home Theater in a Box would be acceptable.

There will be 3 rooms, each with two ceiling speakers. "A" would be for all three rooms, and "B" would be for one room only. It would preferably have a CD player attached as well.

Does anyone know a good quality entry-level receiver with this capability for around $200, or a 5.1 Home Theater system for around $400?

Answer
A+B is going to present a low impedance to the amplifier. The lower the impedance, the closer it comes to being a direct short - and you know what happens when you have a short in an electrical circuit- something goes POP! (Hopefully a fuse or circuit breaker.) As impedance goes lower, the system power supply needs to provide additional current to the amplifier. When it comes to power supplies (the foundation of any component), some of the best affordable receivers with good, solid power supplies come from Onkyo. (I have found that www.accessories4less.com has unbeatable prices on Onkyo receivers.)

A decent rule of thumb is the weight of the component, because the transformer (the foundation of the power supply) tends to be the heaviest thing in the box. If a company has skimped on the transformer, it will feel noticeably lighter than a similar product. (Note that the weight is not *always* a reliable indicator but often times it is.)

The transformer also produces heat and so requires ventilation. You can usually spot it by looking in through the vent holes in the top of the cabinet.

Do you think this was a good deal for this bass system?

So my friend bought 2 kicker 12's in a custom box in January and he had a 15 sub so he barely even used them and so he just sold them to me for $150. Now i know kicker is an entry level sub and that there are better subs out there like rockford or DC but i'm not some big basshead i'm just looking for something to ride around and have some thump and don't get me wrong they do hit hard and they are practically brand new. So do you think this was a straight deal? And don't sit here and hate on kicker or anything.. I mean you like what you like you know.

Answer
You actually got a decent deal, you benefit the most from having the custom enclosure practically for free, because you moreless paid what the speakers are worth.

Yeah it was a good deal, Kicker are average good subs, they go along with low end MTX and Punch, and are a little better than Xplod.

They will be nice subs but dont overpower them too much with a huge amp, because those subs coil overheat easily like any other low end brand, and will end up sounding like a monkey punching a cardboard box in your trunk when you turn up the volume.

use an amp that goes around 70% of the power they can handle, if they say 250watt RMS go with a 200watt amp,

they are good stuff, enjoy them! =)
