What is the best speaker system for laptop?

Sandy C

Have 12 hours of music on laptop and want a more compact speaker system than the 2 speaker and sub-woofer system.
Can we hook it up to our stereo and run house speakers? We're having a outside party and would like to be able to use the music

Answer
There are many options for speakers as you probably already know. I personally like speakers from Creative labs.
www.creativelabs.com Also, check out cnet.com and search on speakers for evaluations and consumer reviews. As for connecting to your home stereo, yes, it is very possible. All you need is a cable that connects from the computer output to the stereo's input. You can buy them pretty cheap from computer store, electronic stores, and super stores.

How do I connect speaker system to my laptop?

Lilly

I just bought a GE 2.1 speaker system from Jasco products and it will not play when coneected to my dell laptop. I have everything plugged in right.I used the laptop with a different system and it works just fine. With this one I can hear noise coming from the speakers but no music. And when subwoofer is turned all the way up I can hear radio in the background. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Answer
One thing you might want to check is the sound card option related to the digital audio output. Not sure what kind of speaker system you used before but try changing that option and see what you get. Also make sure the speakers are plugged into the speaker output. On my Dell, the mic input is adjacent to the speaker jack and is also the same size and I have gotten them mixed up before.

What is the speaker system or docking station for an MP3/MP4 player?

9354

It is NOT an ipod that I have, but I want to get something to play the music out loud with instead of having it plugged into the computer all of the time. Any suggestions on which kind and where to get it will help!

Answer
You can get a cheap set of computer speakers and connect them to the headphone jack on your MP3 player. It won't charge your player or do anything fancy, but it's far more portable than your computer. I have two sets that I bought for $6 each at Big Lots, but general merchandisers like Target or Wal-Mart will probably sell cheap speakers, too.

You get the best quality sound by turning up the volume control on the MP3 player as loud as it will go and then adjusting the volume on the speakers to the level you want. Just remember to change the volume back to a lower level before using headphones again. If you have the volume low on the player and high on the speakers, you're just amplifying a weak signal and it will sound like crap.

Make sure that you get speakers that use either batteries or plug into the wall. Speakers that don't need batteries or electricity will not be very loud or sound very good.

What would be the best portable ipod dock/speakers for a small-medium park?

misha roge

I am looking for ipod portable speakers/ dock that would be good for a small-medium sized park/ grass area. I would like it to be loud, but also clear.
Thanks

Answer
No portable speaker system/dock has anywhere near
the output required for an outdoor area that large.

You will be sorely disappointed with the results
no matter which one you try to use for such a purpose.

What you need is a PA system that consists of a fairly powerful amplifier
(probably not less than 100, and maybe as much as 300, watts per channel)
and good-sized sound reinforcement speakers.
In sufficiently populous areas, such a system can be rented
from a local stage-sound-and-lighting shop.

Of course, a sound system requires a power source.
If the park has no electrical service for the public, you'd also need a generator.
[An inverter won't do the job properly.]

I need help buying Surround sound speakers

saiyancj2

See I am looking for a surround sound system that can work with BOTH my computer desktop AND my hdtv, maybe even my playstation3 since it uses optical audio cable and all. I found 1 system that seemed heavenly made but I feel its a scam and I dont want to risk it with my credit card. link is: http://www.comsiscomputer.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=100
the system I want more or less is a 5.1 true surround sound, not virtual. for around $150 because I need to budget myself this month. Is it possible to get something really satisfying at that price that can work with computers and a tv?

Answer
No, not really, for two reasons:
1) Speakers that are meant to deliver the best in home audio sound need to be connected to a receiver.
2) Speakers that don't need a receiver, are, in effect, inferior in sound, because speakers that don't need an amp (Which is contained i9n a receiver) cannot fully reproduce very good quality sound.
The sad thing is that a decent HT system can be had for around $400: J&R has a nifty Polk audio set, the 6750, list price of $600, selling for $200. A good HT receiver can be had from amazon.com for under $200.
Then, you can hook a computer's audio out into an input on the HT system, and get far better sound from both the computer and other HT media sources, such as DVD players.

Please recommend a low-cost surround sound system for our TV...?

The Truth

I want one that has a subwoofer and TWO speakers. Not four, not five, not six, but TWO. I don't want speakers all over the friggin' room. Thanks!

Answer
Then you don't want true surround sound. You want virtual (not nearly as good but you might like it). Two that you can try are
Philips SoundBar HTS8100 (around $600)
Cambridge SoundWorks SurroundWorks 200 ($1,000)

Neither sounds great but for the price they aren't horrible. There are better ones in the $1500 range but even those aren't as good as real surround.

Home Theater System - Speaker Companies...?

Pro90

Have you heard of Pure-Acoustics or Alpha Technology...? I'm planning on buying a five-speaker set for my home...are any of these two compnies good? Thanks!

Answer
Pure Acoustics makes a great product, however some feel they are a little lacking in the mid range. Have you listened to any of these? You need to audition them with the amp you intend to use.

Alpha I have not heard, but again listen to them first.

Help me pick out a speaker system?

angelsanda

I really want to buy a nice speaker system...with a reciever???

I love music, its my life...I WANT IT LOUD AND REALLY CLEAR. i need it to be able to be loud as all loud can be because when i play guitar...the louder the better.

I am looking to spend around 200 to 450 on it. Main use is for music.

Answer
For that price I would have to recommend this speaker system from Energy. Now I know you probably have never heard of the speaker company Energy but they are actually fairly well known in home audio circles. This system is one of the Canadian companies best known systems. Its not very expensive or large but has great sound for the size and price. You will not be disappointed with it at all.

Dolby 5.1 conversion to 3 Speaker System?

Dave

I have a Walmart Durabrand HT-3917 with 60W peak. The sub has output for 5 speakers. I'm looking to scale the system down for my dorm room. I want to condense the system and use two 25W peak speakers that I have. Is it as simple as running two channels from the back into just one speaker?

Sub is 8ohm while speakers are 6ohm
would replacing the mains with bigger speakers (the 25Ws), am i really putting more strain on the system?

also, im thinking that disconnecting the surrounds wouldnt really do anything for the system, as the channels are still being used one way or another

i guess what im looking to do is to harness the power of two channels into one. if theres any way to do this, i could replace them, and lose very little power.

i still dont know

Answer
No! Don't run two channels into one. You will burn out your sub-woofer.

I went online and found all the specs for your system:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4810671#Specifications

You could disconnect your two mains and replace them with the 25w. speakers, but the system is really designed to push the speakers that came with it. You would be attempting to draw more power from the system than you actually have and could easily burn out the amplifier in the sub-woofer. The system may just shut off when it starts to overheat, but if this happens too many times, it will stop working.

You could also just disconnect the two surrounds to simplify things. You will loose some information because the system will still think they're hooked up, but you likely won't notice with this type of system, and you don't run the risk of damaging the amplifier.

Good luck.

Will a 5.1 speaker system work if I don't use the subwoofer?

dman30464

I want to buy a new speaker system for my room (my old one is over 20 years old), but I have no room for a subwoofer, and also I don't want to disturb the rest of my family. If I buy a 5.1 system, but don't use the subwoofer, will it still work alright? I know it'd just be 5.0, but the other speakers would still work, right?

Answer
Like the other poster said, it depends on what 5.1 system you get, some of the lower quality models use the sub as the middleman, so a proprietary connection is used from the receiver to the sub, then has all the speakers attached to the sub, even some high quality systems like bose use this type of connection, but some companies do that for simplicity, it would be a lot easier to connect wires to a sub that is out of a cabinet, than a receiver that is inside of a cabinet, this also allows a smaller form factor for the receiver, as instead of having 6 ports for 6 different channels, just 1 port is needed for all 6 channels, and they could just add it to the sub that would be large anyway

Now most high end systems, like JVC, have the spring connectors (where you push the spring, put the wire in, then release the spring) for the 5 major channels, then uses an RCA cord for the sub, and those will operate without the sub connected (like mine, since I don't have a sub), the thing with these (and the thing I like about high end systems), is they are compatible with a wide range of speakers, of multiple brands, but because of this, they don't include speakers, you have to go out and buy them yourself, while with low end systems and systems like bose, they only work with thier brand of speakers (well, they can work with other speakers, they are usually an unusual ohm impedence, something you don't find with other brand speakers), so you can't mix and match, but they include the speakers in the kit

Should I connect a Logitech X-530 5.1 Speaker System directly to my tv?

Highmaan

Is connecting the Logitech X-530 5.1 Speaker System directly to the audio out on my tv set a good idea?...I'm planning on buying one soon to enhance the sound quaility mainly for when I watch digital cable , and also to play ps2 and watch dvds also what kind of connecting adapter do I need(thats important to know)?

Answer
Nope. Not unless your tv decodes 5.1 or the speakers decode the analog signal out of the tv into 5.1. Otherwise you'll just hear left and right speakers. Plus amplifiers in tv sets are crap. Get a cheap 5.1 receiver then hood the stuff up to it. check ebay.

What is the best home sterio system that i can afford?
My price range is 0 to 300 bucks.
i know of some great brands but.... I dont know where to get them?

Answer
Well, at that price, you're most likely looking at the stuff that Walmart or Best Buy will be carrying.

Listening tests at the store are useless since they won't have the speakers set up properly, and "LOUD" doesn't give you an accurate test for quality.

I'd check around the various review sites - maybe go to the library and check out their issue on cheap speaker systems.

Have a Sony home cinema speaker set. How to get it working?

Q. I have a 5.1 Sony home cinema speaker set that used to hook up to a blu ray player, which is now dead. I needed a new player anyways, since it was American and can't play UK DVDs

So my question is, can I hook the speakers up to an amp perhaps, then link that to a UK blu ray player?

Does that make any sense?

Answer
Yes you could all depending that the amp is not going to overpower the speakers themselves. I would suggest you take one of the speakers into a electronics shop you deal with and ask what kind of receiver they would recommend for you to use with them.

P.S. most of these HTIB systems have passive subwoofers so you may need to spend some money and get a normal powered sub for the receiver to work best.

sound system?

paul s

i want to get a sound system, pretty much i just want loud ass speakers and bass, what do i need for the basics? and how much would it cost?

Answer
Get pro audio speakers and get a box tuned to like 45, throw subs in it, and you will be loud. It will likely sound like ass but that is the cheapest way to be gut loud. If you want sound quality, then go find a good head unit, such as a nice kenwood, alpine, or pioneer, nothing too flashy. Then get a/b class amps from a respectable company (i.e. nothing from wally world), match the rms of the amps to the rms of two sets of good 6.5" component speakers. Next, find a monoblock amp, or six, or 10, and hook it up to as many subs as you please, and are in your budget. Make sure everything is wired so that you do not go below your amps stable ohm load, and you are not overpowering your subs (unless they are rated way below what they can handle, like all good sub manufacturers). Use big wires, upgrade your alternator and possibly a battery or two. Build a sub box tuned low to like 32-35, and bang, you have a kick ass powerful but good sounding system!

Per speaker, for an average DJ, what is the best of these speaker measurements?

AzeriBoy-M

Total RMS:
Tweeter (Piezo):
Woofer:
Mid:
Also Peak:

Answer
The basics for buying any speaker or speaker system are pretty simple. Look for quality of materials. And the RMS power rating. A good quality speaker system with a higher RMS rating will generally perform better than a system with a lower RMS rating. On the same note. A system with better materials, and a similar RMS rating will generally perform better than those with a lower quality of materials.

Klipsch - ProMedia 2.1 Speaker System (3-Piece) Question about upgrading subwoofer?

Jason

I have this set of 2.1 speakers but I am interested in replacing the sub because I think it actually sucks, but the speakers with it are awesome actually. I dont know what the plug is that the little speakers plug into on the sub but I was hoping somebody could tell me so I could know what subs I could look for to replace this one and keep the speakers that came with it. It's a six pin round type of plug.

Answer
I have the ProMedia GMX speakers and my subwoofer actually has a subwoofer output so I connected an 8" Boston Acoustic powered sub to it and it rocks in my little bedroom.

You will not be able to replace the subwoofer completely since it contains the amplifiers for the satellite speakers. But look to see if yours has the same subwoofer output. If so, then you can also add a better subwoofer of your choosing.

As for subwoofers, I would start by checking craigslist. No shame in buying used. If you have no luck or simply want to buy a new, economical sub, I would recommend looking into a Dayton sub. If you are using it in a small room, you could probably get away with an 8" like this one for less then $100.
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-631

If you are using it in a larger room, you can get this 10" for a little more than $100.

i am thinking about putting a system in my car what should I put 12 or 15 What is the best brand of speakers and amps

Answer
The lower the size subs you get, the better the response is of the speakers. But the bigger speakers you get, the louder the lower notes are.
In other words...
Smaller subs are tighter, but dont go as low
Larger subs are more slugish, but go lower

On my opinion i would choose the 12's because they are tighter than 15's and they dont use up my entire trunk.

When it comes to brands. Different people will tell you different things because they are all opinions and not facts.
It also depends on what you are looking for....
SQ (sound quality) subwoofer or
SPL (sound pressure level) subwoofers.

Obvoiusly the SQ subs will sound better than the SPL subs. But the SPL subs will go louder.

Here is a website to help you browse all sorts of brands of subs...

im putting together a 7.1 system that includes a onkyo sr605 receiver 50" samsung dlp samsung bluray... which of these speakers do you think is better?

Answer
KLIPSCH!!!! hands down go with klipsch. If you dont care about having big floor speakers go with a pair of the f-3's for the front and b-3's for the back and maybe b-2's or something else smaller for the surround back. For a sub get the klipsch 10" or 12". If you are thinking you dont want big bulky speakers go with the Quintet SL or the Quintet III system with either one of those subs and you will not be disappointed I promise.

Should I buy the Klipsch Quintet III or the Polk RM 75/85?

DSM

After a bit of reading, I kind of narrowed down to Klipsch Quintet III or the Polk RM 75/85's. Before I make a purchase, I deftly want to hear them out and I am just not able to find a audio store where I can do this in Houston.

Both of these have good reviews and I am really not sure which one of these should I buy...What would be your option? I have a Pioneer 21TXH.

Which store in Houston can i go and hear them out and which speakers among these would you go for or are there any better ones out there ( $500 - $600).

Thx.
I am visiting US and plan to take back home just 5.0 speaker system rather than 5.1. I intend to buy the Sub back home.

Answer
I like Lances suggestions. I knew that Klipsch bought them out, but I didn't realize how cheap they were right now.

However, I would like to point out that the most inefficient part of any sound system is the speaker itself. Only about 2% of the energy put into a speaker actually produces noise. The rest produces heat. So the speakers are the aspect of your sound system that you should really be concerned with more than any other. A really nice receiver with crappy speakers will always sound crappy. Personally, any time I look for a sound system (receiver and speakers), I plan on spending no more than 25% of my budget on the receiver. The rest goes into speaker. Buying speakers that are cheaper than your receiver is like putting go-cart tires on a Ferrari. Nice engine, but you will get crappy performance in the end.

These are at the top end of your budget, but I think you will find that they are a beautiful sounding set of speakers for the price.
http://www.wwstereo.com/website/ecommerce/productdetail.aspx?product=S506HCS3SYSTEM
Still, you may want to consider something a little more high end and get the most out of your receiver.

Adding a powered subwoofer to my computer speaker system.?

I have logitech z - 5500 5.1 speakers and I'm wondering if there is ANY way to add a woofer, and im ok with removing a satilite if it is the only way to add another woofer

Answer
In a surround sound system..[[the .1]]..describes the sub-woofer..
===
For instance--a 5.1 surround sound system..is Stereo[[L&R]]
Front[[L&R]]
Center[[Voice]]...making [[5]]
The point-1 is a sub-woofer..
===
I use a JVC Amplifier..[[5.1]]..it has both..Analog-->>Digital..and Digital-->>Digital/plus Fiber Optic sound/
I use a RCA(60-watt)Sub-woofer/and its Signal-IN wire..NOT..the attached..SPKR-wires..<<--which require more power..to operate..
The Signal-IN wire fires off the sub-woofer(digitally)..
If you look on the REAR-panel of a Sub-woofer you will see..2-types of Hook-Ups..plain 'ol SPKR wire connections..and then 2-RCA connectors..useing the LEFT(only)RCA-connector is the digital-IN/connection..
===
You end your question asking about adding a second Sub-woofer..
I own 2-sub-woofers..but really--one is plenty..
I use the 60-watt..because the 80-watt is just more..not really necessary..
At times these cars drive by with all kinds of BASS-running..I think it sounds like[[crap]]..
If I find a 40-watt sub-woofer I might remove my 60-watt..//
My 80-watt is a KLH/the 60-watt a RCA..and has been running since 2000/the KLH I've used a couple of times..but it came with some satelite SPKRS I got fro a steal..my satelites are all 100-watt..and I use 12-inch woofers for my Surround Sound/which also are 100-watt(RMS)SPKRS..all 8-ohm..
===
Hope that explains some things../[end]

Is there ANY computer speaker system with a bigger subwoofer?! Z-2300?

SoupSoup

I have had the 2300 for over 2 years now and it is AWESOME. I cannot simply imagine a system having a more powerful bass.

For reference I have been searching trying to find one, is there one? Or at 120rms is the 2300 the most powerful computer speaker subwoofer there is!?
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/home_pc_speakers/devices/231&cl=us,en

Thats the set, the infamous Logitech Z-2300.

Answer
Creative has a 7.1 system, called Gigaworks, which features a 130 watt RMS subwoofer (8" long throw, ported subwoofer).

One could, also, easily rig a system using car audio components. You would need a computer power supply (to power the amplifier), your subs, and a box. Using this setup, you could easily have a 400 watt RMS sub stage for your computer.

Queries Before Buying Home Theatre System?

royal

I would love to buy a Home Theatre System..Pls give me some inputs on what to check before buying ..These are my queries...

1.What are the basic things to note before buying like about the Amplifier,Subwoofer, channels,Dolby,Surrond System etc

2.Does the Home Theatre System come without a DVD Player. Can I use the normal DVD Player which i have with me for the Home Theatre System. Is it possible?

3.Can we use the Home Theatre system as a music System also...or should I buy a Stereo System if I need to hear high quality music

4.If I buy a Sony/Panasonic/Samsung/JVC Home Theatre System from US will it work in India?

Answer
If you spend some time around here you'll notice many people are usually asking these sorts of questions AFTER they make their purchase. A wise man asks before.

When buying a home theater system you have many questions to ask yourself. I'll try to cover the major concerns.

1.) How many channels? There are many options here. You can go with a 2.1, 3.1, 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 surround sound system. The ".1" means you have a subwoofer while the other digit indicated the number of satellite speakers. 2 and 3 channel surround is just simulated surround, not much better than a TV by itself, so I can't really recommend that route. In my opinion 6 and 7 channels are just too many. They would work great in a big room, but most TV rooms aren't that big. You can always expand on a 5.1, so that's the setup I recommend, especially for a beginner.

2.) HTIB or DIY? You have two options here. You can assemble all components yourself or you can buy everything bundled in a home theater in a box (HTIB). Generally speaking, HTIBs are inferior. This is because they usually lack in a wide variety of connection ports. Also, as you may have noticed, many are based on a DVD player. If you must buy an HTIB, make sure you buy one that is receiver-based so you have the flexibility to expand. (For good receiver-based systems, see Onkyo's HT-S series.)

3.) Connectivity? HDMI is the best cable out there right now, so you'll want to make sure you have a system that can handle HDMI. Also, make sure it's an HDMI switcher/repeater, not pass through. ("Pass through" means no processing is taking place.) In addition to at least two HDMI-in and one HDMI-out ports, you'll want at least one optical and digitial coax in, some composite connections, a few component video in connections, etc.

4.) Audio formats? Every decent product should have Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS decoding capabilities. With the advent of Blu-ray a couple of new formats have emerged--Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. These are uncompressed audio soundtracks that, given a decent set of speakers, will sound superior to the older formats, which are "lossy".

5,) Blu-ray? If you are planning on buying a Blu-ray player in the future you should "future proof" yourself by buying HD-ready home theater equipment today.

I have put together a budget HD product list for those just getting started: http://www.amazon.com/The-Best-Hi-Def-Home-Theater-on-a-Budget/lm/R1M8CM8FMVSKF5/ref=cm_lm_byauthor_title_full

If you feel too overwhelmed you can go with the Onkyo HTIB I mentioned earlier. The 6100 and above is HD.: http://www.us.onkyo.com/prod_class.cfm?class=Systems

Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck.

Good sound system for room?

Q. I am looking for an average home theatre system for my room. Not a DVD or Blu-Ray bundle I already have my PS3 for that. One that has decent sound but not too expensive and 5.1 surround sound. And has great sound for both movies and games. I am looking for something around $100-$200.

Answer
If you are willing to spend less that $300 there is good entry level Onkyo Home Theater System (Receiver+Speaker) sold by Walmart only online. ($278) Can't beat that.
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Onkyo-AVX-280-5.1-Channel-Home-Theater-Receiver-Speaker-Package/14335656

Another option:
Try to bundle (< $300 depending on how you bundle)
http://www.walmart.com/ip/5.1-Component-Blu-Ray-and-Speaker-Home-Theater-System.-Bundle/15077546

Else, you will end up with the brands like Coby, Philips or RCA that has DVD players with it.

Best surround sound with mp3 player compatibility?

superstace

I have a smaller living room but i would like at least two speakers and a subwoofer. I have a samsung focus phone and need the surround sound to have a 3.5m jack so I can use my music off my phone through the surround sound. Please let me know the most reasonably priced one out there!!! I'm on a very tight budget.
I would like a legitimate home theater/surround sound system. I want to be able to hook my tv up to it or hook my mp3 player up to it so listen to music.

Answer
Well this one is good and very cheap:
http://www.amazon.com/Coby-CS-MP77-75-Watt-Performance-Speaker/dp/B000P1D7O0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1311870908&sr=8-1
You would also need 2 of these aux cables, which are incredibly cheap:
http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Unlimited-AUD-1100-06-6-Feet-Stereo/dp/B000SE6IV8/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1311871217&sr=1-1

But that one isnt really "surround sound". Do you want surround sound or do you just want speakers?

http://www.amazon.com/RCA-RT151-Home-Theater-System/dp/B002PY7H3M/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1311871739&sr=1-1

I know these above would work, but they are not very high watts

This one below is pretty high watts but I did a lot of research for you and found that they aren't "truly" surround sound unless you have a receiver. That owuld cost you about another 100 bucks. So i would reccomend the last one. its 300 watts, compared to 80 from the one above it.

What all do I need to build a audio system for vinyl?

Dylan

I'm thinking of starting a new long term project of building a "vinyl" audio system from scratch. I plan to build a turntable, a tube amp, and speaker enclosures. What I'm wondering is what all will I need besides those three things? Or can I just plug the record player into the tube amp and then directly from tube amp to speakers? Is a preamp required?

I've done a bit of research and have found lots of info for building the turntable from parts of old turntables. None of which will have a built in preamp. Pretty much direct wiring from the tone arm cartridge out to RCA. I've also found a good bit of info on tube amp kits like the S-5 that puts out 8w per channel at 8 ohms but it requires .7 volts input for full output. Lastly I plan to build a pair of speaker enclosures but I'm unsure if they need to be powered beyond the tube amp.

So to recap....

1. Do I need a preamp, and does it need to be a particular kind to keep the "tube" sound?
2. Do the speakers need to be powered beyond the tube amp?
3. Am I missing a component?

Answer
I applaud the idea of wanting to build your own audio system as I did in my teens from kits and even that was challenging. Now if your looking to build kits, absolutely I would encourage it, but to build a complete system from scratch, you better have a very high level of electronic engineering behind you otherwise not only is it going to be a waste of money your working with extremely high voltages which are lethal. Unless you really know audio design don't do it.

That kinda confirms it for me if you don't know what you need in a audio system. the vital pieces in the system are missing, and that is a preamplifier and phono-preamplifier.

Just by your question I can tell you really don't have a clue about designing a good music system, so if your really wanting to build a system, learn about it in books first.

Speaker and electronic design is very complex and takes years of engineering background to even think about designing equipment.

are these amplifier, speakers and lp player compatible?

lp player: Denon DP-29F
amplifier: Pioneer A-109
speakers: Canton GLE 402
and if so, will it be good quality?

Answer
The amp and speakers look like a nice little system. That turntable is basically a toy though and the Canton speakers would certainly reveal that.

Honestly, unless you have at least a few hundred dollars to spend on vinyl playback, just stick with a CD player and it will sound much better. Vinyl is not worth doing unless you do it right. A table like that won't even play at the right speed for long. You'll have audible wow and flutter. You'll also have tracking distortion and "thick", grainy sound with a limited frequency range and limited transparency due to the cheap cartridge and stylus.

What are the loudest speakers I could find under 400.00$ ?

Emilyy

Im having a big sweet sixteen party at a place and its a large room with maybe 60 people, what would be the loudest speaker or system I could find that doesnt kill my budget. I want to be able to hear it over the people and dont want to get a dj because my sisters are going to have sweet sixteens and it would be a much better investment to just get really good speakers. Any suggestions about a good product are welcome, and I dont want to have anyone just telling me to get a dj because its not what im asking for. Thank you all :)

Answer
You either going to need powered speakers, or a power amp to go with non-powered speakers. Either way, you're not going to get very far on $400.

You could get a pair of Behringer EUROLIVE B210D speakers that are powered for $400. But, they're only 10" speakers. If you're looking for a lot of bass, they aren't going to cut it alone. You would have to add a separate subwoofer to the system (and then things get a little complicated).

If you live near a major city, I would suggest that instead of buying you just rent the equipment. You could probably get everything you need for around $50 for one night (depending on where you live). Even if you throw 2 more parties, you're still way ahead. Just Google "Sound System Rental" near you and see what comes up. Tell 'em what you want to do and how big the room is. They should be able to quote you a system over the phone.

Good luck.

I have a system in which i need to have 2 amps and a crossover to hook up my speakers & subs, how do i do it?

jtotheizzo

this is a mobile dj system and im used to just having an amp an speakers but i have the club series amps that i need to hook up to it but i heard that i need an extra amp and a crossover. if anyone is knowledgable in this feild you help will deeply apreciated.

Answer
As this is a DJ system, this would fall under the non-existent âpro-audioâ category. Most home theater people will have no idea how to remedy this (for example the building your own crossover guy) I happen to run a pro-audio rental company, here is how they work: Most pro speakers are made to handle a certain range of sound best. Some handle higher tones best (Tweeters or horns) some middle tones best, some lower tones best (Subwoofers). To perform as well as they are intended to, each has to be sent only the sound they reproduce best. A crossover basically takes your signal that your mixer puts out, and splits it into the different frequencies. It sends the low notes to your subwoofers, your middle to the middle range speakers, and the high to the tweeters. Since you already know that you need a crossover and some amps, here is how to hook it up.

The output from your turntable mixer or CD player mixer (Usually 2 RCA plugs, or ¼â plugs) plugs into your crossover. Your crossover has 2 or more outputs for each channel. The low output on channel 1 goes to input 1 on your subwoofer amp. The low output on channel 2 goes to the channel 2 input on your subwoofer amp. Do the same for your main speakers. Channel 1 High output on the crossover goes to channel 1 input on your main speaker amp. And channel 2 high output on the crossover goes to your channel 2 input on your main speaker amp. Hook up your speakers to the amps as you usually do, and you got it. Now as far as getting a crossover, here are a few options:

Cheap:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Behringer-SUPERX-PRO-CX2310-Crossover?sku=182466
Middle:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/dbx-223XL-Stereo-2WayMono-3Way-Crossover?sku=183507
Nice:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Rane-SAC-23-Stereo-3Way-Crossover?sku=182713

All will do the job. For DJ applications, crossing over at 80-200 HZ is the normal way to do it. See what sounds best.
I hope this is helpful.

What are Good speakers for iPad and iPhone?

JLG

I want good speakers I can play my music and iheart radio on. I have a iPad and iPhone I will probably use my iPad more because it has more space on it for my music. Do you know of any good high quality speakers for Less that 100$. Thanks

Answer
I have been using the iMainGo XP for iPad and love it! There is also the iMainGo X and iMainGo 2, which are for iPod/iPhone/iTouch, etc. All of them are a solid speaker system with big sound, and protect your device. I love the duality of having a case that is also a speaker system. I work with them and their products are pretty impressive out of all the speaker systems I've used. The speakers are versatile and work with many other products, including Kindle, notebooks and portable gaming devices (you can even plug in a guitar!).

Check it out on Amazon: http://amzn.to/ritvtj (where you can also read the reviews).

GOOD LUCK!

How do I wire my iPad Mini into my car?

Corbett

I plan on replacing my current stereo system with an iPad Mini. I understand the physical type aspect or removing the current deck and building housing for the iPad but as far as the electrical and audio wiring part goes I'm lost. Once I have a housing for the iPad in the dash what all do i need to convert that signal to play through my speakers. I currently have a cord for my iphone hardwired into the car but I think it goes through the current system with i plan to remove and replace with the iPad. If you at least know what i need as far as an adapter, amp, etc and not necessarily how to do it let me know! also if you know of a guide posted online anywhere tell me! thank you.

Answer
well all you would need is some rca cables that go to a female port, and an Auxillary cord for the ipad mini.

Looking for customer reviews for Logitech G51 Surround Sound 5 1 Speaker System?

seamy

Where can I find reviews and opinions online for Logitech G51 Surround Sound 5 1 Speaker System

Answer
You can read reviews for the Logitech G51 Surround Sound 5 1 Speaker System on Amazon.

I was a little reluctant to purchase another set of Logitech speakers. My first set, the Z-560, worked well, but one of the channels burned out about 16 months after I purchased them.

My second set, the Z-680, sounded great but had a fatal flaw: HISSSSSS. I had to have a box fan going in the room to drown out the constant hissing. It finally drove me to seeking another set, and I desperately sought out a non-Logitech set of speakers. Sadly, in my narrow price range, there were no alternatives that I can find.

With some relucatance I ordered the G51. I set them up yesterday, and so far I'm very pleased with them. The soul-searing hiss present on the z-680 is mercifully gone, and the system sounds excellent. The bass is sufficient without being overpowering (provided you turn it down a notch or two from the default setting), and the control pod is sensibly sized and sports a great, logically laid out interface. Mids and highs are perfectly acceptable for a relatively cheap computer speaker set.

The matrix mode works surprisingly well (though I think it's likely nothing that revolutionary, just a re-imaging if their existing stero x2 mode) for both games and music.

I don't have plans to use the silly 'patent pending mod system' (pretty much just a piece of transparent plastic to slip printed designs into), but if you do want to 'pimp your rig' then I suppose the option is there.

Here's a couple of tips for the new G51 users:

1) Take off those grills on the speakers! They are *not* acoustically transparent, and in my ears the highs opened up a bit after removing them. Just be careful not to poke anything into the exposed speaker drivers!

2) BE CAREFUL if you mount the center channel on your LCD screen; I cringed when I read the instructions to 'tighten the hinge screw' - this is applying pressure to your LCD monitor. If you over tighten you might experience the pleasure of cracking your LCD screen in half. I simply placed mine on top and used a little double sided tape on the base - I'd rather have a slightly loose center channel than a pair of non-functioning 11" flat screen monitors.

Speaker makes buzzing sound when i turn it on?

Shotthruth

This is a two speaker set from genius bought during 2003ish.... worked fine...until suddenly it started to make a buzzing sound like a tv on static...

On another note, please dont tell me to replace it.... i will prolly end up doing it but wud like to see if i can solve this problem...i do have two other sound hi fi systems but those are connected to my home theatre....(which is kind of a family thing since we watch movies on it together).... For my pc, i prefer using two speaker systems coz it doesnt disturb other people of the household....

Answer
Okay, first, be sure it is your speaker. Haul the buzzing unit out to another hi fi system and hook it up. If the buzz is still there, it is for certain the speaker, not the wiring shorting out or the amp you had it hooked to. Lets say it is the speaker once you test it. generally this would mean a bad driver. You can check this if the drivers are cones, by gently puting your hand on each one in turn, and finding the one that is causing the buzz. If you have muffled a buzz, you may have your hand on the problem. listen close by putting your ear at each driver, to make sure the odd sound isn't pervasive. although the sound will travel through the box, you should be able to discern weather the driver itself is stroking out, or if the sound is just penetrating the box from elsewhere. There are obviously other ways of doing this if you are handy, and you will have to be to fix it anyway, because the solution is going to require you to unscrew and remove the bad speaker cone and replace it. You can check the wire connections to the bad sounding cone while your fiddling around in the box, maybe a connector came loose and that is causing the problem. as long as your head is inside the box, look at the crossover. most speakers have a capacitor or two that shoves the right sound to the right cone. better ones also have a microhenry coil to keep signals that are to high from invading your bass driver (the biggest cone) . a bad cap will look a bit bloated up, bulged out, or even blown up and leaking. the coil is usually just a coil of wire wrapped around a form, or an iorn core. if any of that stuff looks funny to you, jot down the the millihenry rating of the coil, or the microfarad rating of the cap, and get ye to radioshack and get new ones to solder in. If it is one of the drivers (the speaker cone assemblies) ,try to get a good match, usually from a online replacement part supplier. youll want one of the same ohm rating, with the same fs number etc. the same free air resonance, and about the same magnet size, at the very least. As not all this info is on the cone (driver), your best bet is to ask for the replacement speaker by model , size, manufacturer, so forth. There are ways to get the info sheets for the speakers, or test them for the three vial numbers that mean you have a good match, but you are not going there, so just ask. if your luck holds, a replacement will get found. But lets say the speaker works fine connected to a second system. Check you speaker wires right from the terminals all the way to the speaker connectors the connections should be solid , unfrayed, and not touching each other. there should be no breaks in the run of the wires. Onto your amp, then. Same principle here. connect a known good speaker to the amp, and see if it goes funny. Keep the volume low, and your hand on the off switch though, just in case its worse than you think. If it is the amplifier (receiver, all in one dvd playing box, whatever it is you have. try several sources, another words try the radio, then the dvd or cd or tape source, whatever. So now you know. Hey, the unit's radio is bad, the unit's tape player is bad, the dvd isnt working right, nothing works right, must just be the amp itself. Now do you fix the amp or replace it? repairs are usually expensive, you will find. It will be cheaper because you can now define for the repair person that it seems to involve the radio,or the dvd, or everything, but you will not like the estimate. Even if it was a speaker cone that needed to go, unless the unit takes a dirt cheap replacement, and you can do it yourself, you may not be camping happy.. Chances are, you are going to go out and just get something that works instead, but these are the basics, whew... .

What is a hi-fi system?

Zac Gilmou

Answer
The term has become almost meaningless - at least in the sense of consumer products. It also has different definitions in different regions. Originally, the term High Fidelity was used to describe the audio playback systems that were constructed by amateur audio enthusiasts shortly after World War II. Being dissatisfied by the quality of radios and phonographs of the time, they used their skills to construct equipment that sounded better - had higher fidelity. Often the results were quite astonishing and it caught on as a fad. Manufacturers noticed and began making equipment for Hi-Fi enthusiasts. This started as separate components such as turntables, amplifiers and speakers but soon all in one units bearing the name Hi-Fi hit the market. Anything that wasn't a simple table top radio or record player built into a box with it's speaker and amplifier was called a Hi-Fi - even some of these were. Anyone could go to the local department store and buy a "Hi-Fi." Of course most of these off the shelf, all one one units offered no where near the fidelity of the systems that were put together by devoted audio enthusiasts. The term Hi-Fi had become a marketing tool. Of course nothing has changed. Hi-Fi as a marketing term is not the hot button that it used to be, being surpassed by "Home Theater","Surround Sound" and "High Definition." Such things go through trends. For a while "Stereo" and "Quad" were the buzzwords. When used this way, terms loose their meaning. The true meaning of such terms as High Fidelity is also subjective. What might be considered low fidelity today could well have been considered high fidelity in the 1950s and by that same token what could be considered high fidelity to one person could be considered low fidelity to another such as an audio enthusiast or "audiophile."
So, there is really no definitive answer to your question. From what I can tell from this side of the pond, in Britain the term means any type of audio system with a separate or detachable set of speakers. Over here, the term isn't used so much being surpassed by the more modern buzzwords. The true meaning of the term is argued over constantly and sometimes vehemently by audiophiles so I won't even try to offer a definition. Wikipedia has a fairly good article on the subject: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_fidelity

Will my X Box 360 support BOSE 6.1 Speaker System???

apache64d_

I am looking to purchase a surround sound system. Looking at Bose they have the standard 5.1 surround but also now have a 6.1 system. It has an exrta rear speaker to highlight certain sounds. Is this 6.1 supported by the 360 and other DVD devices, or do we need to wait for those components to catch up?

http://www.bose.com/controller?event=VIEW_PRODUCT_PAGE_EVENT&product=am16_surround_index
Thanks

Answer
Just a quick story about Bose for your consideration...
Bose doesn't make home theater equipment with the listener in mind, meaning that they don't care how the music is SUPPOSED to sound, they just care that they are MUCH cheaper to produce and more expensive to sell than a REAL speaker company, = LARGE PROFIT MARGIN. Having been a salesperson for many years, I didn't mind selling Bose to the people that were just dead set on having it, because that meant a bigger payday for me, but anyone that I respected enough to give the time of day, I would do everything in my power to convince to buy something, or ANYTHING other than Bose.
Bose isn't a quality speaker or electronics company, but they ARE an AMAZING marketing company! They have more than 30% of Americans believing that tubby, bloated sounding, thumping bass with washed out mid's and screeching highs is what music is supposed to sound like, and that makes me sad!! Do me a favor and go to a REAL stereo store that carries not only Bose, but other brands like B&K, Denon, Yamaha, and Pioneer Elite for electronics, and Vienna Acoustics, Klipsch, Definitive Technologies, Martin Logan and many others for speakers. You will notice that Bose is almost NEVER put into the same room as other brands, because Bose tells these copmanies NOT to put their products where they can be compared directly to another brand. They are hoping that your ears will forget the major sound differences in the time it takes to go from the "Bose room" to another listening room! Sad but true! Just bring your favorite quality audio recording (NOT something like Chocolate starfish and the hotdog flavored water!) like Aimee Mann, John Coltrane, Jack Johnson, or Norah Jones (something where audio fidelity was thought of while making the record!) and just close your eyes and listen. You will be SHOCKED at how bad Bose sounds in comparison!
Now that you understand a little bit about Bose, consider the amount of money you are going to waste on Bose, and use the same amount to buy a REAL system with real fidelity, flexibility, is upgradable, and future ready. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!
The difference between 5.1, 6.1, and even 7.1 is marginal if the source media is not recorded in those formats. You can force most better quality receivers to output a matrixed (combined) signal to the extra rear surround speakers, but all they do is combine the signals from the side surround speakers. Not that impressive honestly. Since 99% of all games for either XB360 or PS3 are only going to be 5.1, the extra expense for a 7.1 system is not usually necessary. I own a 7.1 receiver with 7 speakers, and rarely do the surround back speakers come into play on most media. A properly set-up and calibrated 5.1 system, appropriate sound insulating/reflecting materials placed properly in a room, and quality speakers (aka not Bose) will be MUCH more impressive!
Yes, the XB360 can pass a 6.1/7.1 signal if it is available, but it rarely is on most games. SOME movies are encoded for it, so if you plan on using your XB360 as a DVD player as well, which is NOT recommended unless you buy the HD-DVD attachment, there are MUCH better stand alone DVD players out there (check out Oppo at www.oppodigital.com). The XB360 (and the PS3 for that matter) are primarily gaming devices that also play DVD's, and that is how their video decoders are set to work. The PS3 is universally panned for its lackluster standard DVD playback, and the same goes for the XB360.

At any rate, consider other options which don't involve a brand that can only make your ears dead to real music and home theater quality (Bose) while only enriching the pockets of the very fortunate salesperson who suckered you into buying it!

It doesn't seem that 6.1 has yet fully entered the wireless world in terms of buying a complete ready-to-go system - any 6.1 systems out there currently have only wireless on the fronts, and the rears are wired.
The Panasonic SC-HT545 system is 5.1 but is easily setup with SH-FX60 to have wireless rear speakers too, see source 1.
The Philips Cineos HTS9800W is a 6.1 wireless rear system but front speakers are wired, see source 2, 3 and 4.

Behringer EUROLIVE VP2520 2000W Dual 15" PA Speaker or DJ Shake Sound System?

yanzi

I've been wanting to get an awesome sound system to DJ.
I was thinking of getting the DJ Shake Sound System: Model number: LBT-SH2000. This system offers: Front (RMS): 500W x 4,PMPO Total: 22000W, RMS Total: 2000W, Cinema Space Surround Sound, with sound entertainment such as: Flanger, Isolator, Phaser, Sound Flash. Sound features are:Bass Boost function:GROOVE/Z-GROOVE, Equalizer: Preset Equalizer; Tv Effect, Sound Enhancement: MP3 BOOSTER+. The woofers also light up to the beat.
The other set I was thinking of is, two Behringer VP2520 speakers and a Behringer EP4000 power amp. The connections I would use are: ipod headphone out to amp inputs using a 3.5mm to 1/4 inch cable, and amp outputs to speakers using speakon cables. The Behringer VP2520 speakers give off 2000 watts each.
After looking at these two I was wondering if both give off 2000 watts (unless the Behringers end up having a total power of 4000 watts after buying two speakers) what makes one better than the other? I was asking DJs this same question and they just said get the Behringers but idk why. Both seem good but which would be better for a DJ?

Answer
Get the Behringer speakers and amp - it will sound WAAAAAYYYYY better than any Sony boombox. The Behringer amp puts out over 1000 watts into each 4 ohm speaker and weighs 45 pounds!!!!!!! It is REAL DJ equipment. No real DJ would use a Sony boombox with all the flashing lights and knobs. That Sony system is for candy pants DJ wannabees.

Get the Behringer speakers and amp - you will NOT be disappointed. You will blow the roof off (literally).

I Need Help With B-52 Dj Speaker System?

Amar

Ok Iam Buying A Speaker System Iam Gettin 2 B-52 MX-1515 Dual 15 2-Way 600W Speaker and iam getting 2 B-52 MX-18S 18" 550W Subwoofer and the total watt comes up too 2300 so now i need help with what kind of amp would i need to run this whole thing without the speakers turning off on me in the middle of the show.

Answer
Get your wallet out.

The B-52 website does not say what kind of power rating they are specifying when they say "600 watts". I will assume they mean program power to be on the safe side.

That means that you want one amp for the two mx-1515's that puts out 600 watts at 4 ohms per channel and another amp for the mx-18's that puts out about 550 watts at 8 ohms per channel. You should also get a crossover to send the lows to the sub amp.

Main amp possibility:

Sub amp possibility:

Crossover:

Remember that it is more dangerous to underpower your speakers than overpower them. An underpowered amp will distort sooner for a given volume level and distortion is what blows speakers. Audio pros always get an amp that is AT LEAST the program power rating of the speaker at a given impedance (ohms).

If you need to save money, just get two of these amps:

Home Speaker System?

jared_lee_

Does anybody know how much it costs to put in a whole-house in-ceiling or in-wall speaker system. The house we are building has 4 bedrooms which I would like speakers in all. Also I would like them in the basement, kitchen, living, 2 bathrooms, and 4 outside speakers.

Answer
Well first off it depends on how many speaker per room. Let's estimate 2 in each bedroom, 4 outside, 1 per bathroom, living room, kitchen 4 each, and 1 home theater system.
A good quality in home speaker in ceiling about 350 per pair, a good in wall being about the same.
2 Receivers and 1 multiroom switch approximately $2500. A whole house system controller (Fancy Remote that controls every room with a button) 1000 for the system and 1000 per master remote and 500 for a secondary remote.
Now with all that Speaker Wire run to every room in wall grade to the receivers. 3000. (Little extra for guesstimate)
and volume knobs per room 10 at 50 each 500.
And and Installer who can do it all for you 2500 to 4500.

About 25,000 to 40,000 depending on the equipment.

Are in ceiling speakers good for entertainment system?

D. V

I want to get myself a home theater entertainment system in the living room. If I get a 5.1 or 7.1 system, is it worth to get ceiling speakers?

What do they do, how is the quality?

If you have any websites that could help, i'd appreciate it.

Thanks

Answer
I don't know about mounting speakers in the ceiling for quality audio, but the link below brags about the ones they have. See what you think.

Answer
Sorry =( That won't work. You will have to get a surround sound system that will take either digital coax or fiber optic.

You will also need to purchase him a fiber optic cable.

Here is an example of a surround system:

Answer
The logitech Z-5500 is made for a computers although you can hook it up to a home theater setup. I heard that it sounds better playing movies than music and that the subwoofer can sound pretty boomy. Its priced aroud $300 from reputable websites (newegg.com). Which i would recommend looking at seeing that there are nearly 1100 ratings posted on the Z-5500 alone. The Pioneer also has good ratings acording to pricegrabber. It appears that the Pioneer is much less expensive than the Z-5500, but I believe that the logitech system is THX certified.

Bottom Line: They both appear to be nice systems. You should do more research and make your own decision then.
