Recording Engineer says YES
I am a recording engineer and i bought these speakers to use as reference monitors to compare my mixes on a pair of consumer speakers. They sound a whole lot better than i expected! At low volume levels, these speakers aren't far from my pair of $1000 professional studio monitors. They do lack a bit of mid to low-mid on the frequency spectrum, but that is expected with...

Decent
These put out pretty good sound, but if they are turned up too loud, then they will distort and throw some static into the mix. Also, the bass adjustment is on the back of the subwoofer, that I keep on the floor a bit out of the way. The volume control is neat with the dial on top, but it is not as heavy as the wires connected to it, so the wires decide where the...

Not just for computers - improves cheap TVs, July 7, 2008
By Arthur Kimes (Los Angeles, CA USA) - See all my reviews

I recenty got a inexpensive 19" HDTV which has decent enough video quality but it burdened with the WORST sound I've heard on a TV. Tinny sounding speakers with little volume. But there was a headphone jack on the TV. With headphones, the TV sounded excellent. My computer speakers were connected with a headphone jack... They worked just fine on the TV. I looked for powered 2.1 computer speaker systems on Amazon and was delighted to find many choices under $40. The best value for the money seemed to be this Logitech and the cheap TV now has excellent sound.

I give this a 5 star rating (instead of a 3 or a 4) because of the low price. There are better 2.1 systems but nowhere near this price.

Awesome, January 25, 2008
By Lisa Trent - See all my reviews

Great sound with a nice touch of base. All the quality in a small package. The speaker wires are really not long enough for distant placement of speakers the wire doesn't spread that far apart. The sub woofer does well it packs a punch when cranked up. The piano black color adds nice touch to the speakers and woofer which is kind of heavy but slim enough to fit just about anywhere. The volume control and mic/phone jack controls are easy to use and a big plus for me. Easy gliding volume control the whole system feels solid with no visible weaknesses. Over all a good speaker system for the money. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

Looking for a new Speaker system?

Ben Balke

Hi, I'm looking to buy a new speaker system just to listen to music from my iphone 5. I don't listen to music at home purely because I don't have any speakers.

My budget is under $100, so I'm not looking for anything massive. But I am looking for something with a subwoofer that can deliver the best bass possible for that price, without skimping out on the other speakers which play the highs/mids. It only needs to make a 10'X10' room sound awesome.

They would be used for a lot of rap and heavy bass electronic music (Don't judge my music tastes).

Like I said, I'm not expecting an amazing speaker system. But just something that will last a long time with no issues that has good bass and good highs/mids. I'm not really looking for my house to shake, but things falling off the shelf would be nice. Thanks for any help you can provide, because I have no idea what I'm doing!

Answer
Total price $116, not including shipping:

Creative Inspire T12 2.0 powered speakers, $45,

Monoprice 8248, 8 Inch 60-Watt powered subwoofer, $54.69,

http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=109&cp_id=10906&cs_id=1090602&p_id=8248

Radio Shack 42-2570, 1/8" stereo y-adapter, $7.99,

SCOSCHE I6RCA35A, 3.5mm Stereo to 2 RCA adapter cable, $8.25,

http://www.ebay.com/itm/360798522456

That's about the best you'll do with $100. It's a pretty ordinary pair of computer speakers, but then you patch in a small powered subwoofer to play with.

Both devices should be compatible with splitting the signal one time, though you'll need to nudge the volume controls higher (which may increase noise).

Blu Ray Home Theater System with HDMI inputs and Built In Wireless Rear Speakers?

Chicken F

Are there any blu ray home theater systems like this right now? Preferably with the tall front speakers. Thanks.

Answer
This system has tall front speakers, wireless, and is Blu-ray as well. I'm not a fan of these systems, but if that's what you want it's more than adequate. I've bought from these people before and their customer service is the best. No surround speaker is 100% wireless. It still needs power and that will require you plug it in somehow. Speakers that are wireless tend to have issues with getting a full signal and limited frequencies. They have not or have ever been recommended. Good luck!

Does (Sony DAV-HDX285 Bravia Theatre System) it have wireless rear speakers?

JUNIOR

I want to know if this model of Sony (home theater) has wireless rear speaker

If any body has it, can you also tell me if it has good sound quality?

Answer
It is an option to have the wireless rear speakers for that system, I have the DAV-HDX589W Bravia system (which comes standard with the wireless speakers), and its pretty good (its also the best DVD Bravia system Sony has now) But if you are looking for an Upconvert DVD system with S-Air (wireless rear speakers) than id get the Sony. It has pretty good bass (for such a small woofer) and the sound with movies is awesome! The picture is also pretty awesome when using HDMI cables =)

Queries Before Buying Home Theatre System?

royal

I would love to buy a Home Theatre System..Pls give me some inputs on what to check before buying ..These are my queries...

1.What are the basic things to note before buying like about the Amplifier,Subwoofer, channels,Dolby,Surrond System etc

2.Does the Home Theatre System come without a DVD Player. Can I use the normal DVD Player which i have with me for the Home Theatre System. Is it possible?

3.Can we use the Home Theatre system as a music System also...or should I buy a Stereo System if I need to hear high quality music

4.If I buy a Sony/Panasonic/Samsung/JVC Home Theatre System from US will it work in India?

Answer
If you spend some time around here you'll notice many people are usually asking these sorts of questions AFTER they make their purchase. A wise man asks before.

When buying a home theater system you have many questions to ask yourself. I'll try to cover the major concerns.

1.) How many channels? There are many options here. You can go with a 2.1, 3.1, 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 surround sound system. The ".1" means you have a subwoofer while the other digit indicated the number of satellite speakers. 2 and 3 channel surround is just simulated surround, not much better than a TV by itself, so I can't really recommend that route. In my opinion 6 and 7 channels are just too many. They would work great in a big room, but most TV rooms aren't that big. You can always expand on a 5.1, so that's the setup I recommend, especially for a beginner.

2.) HTIB or DIY? You have two options here. You can assemble all components yourself or you can buy everything bundled in a home theater in a box (HTIB). Generally speaking, HTIBs are inferior. This is because they usually lack in a wide variety of connection ports. Also, as you may have noticed, many are based on a DVD player. If you must buy an HTIB, make sure you buy one that is receiver-based so you have the flexibility to expand. (For good receiver-based systems, see Onkyo's HT-S series.)

3.) Connectivity? HDMI is the best cable out there right now, so you'll want to make sure you have a system that can handle HDMI. Also, make sure it's an HDMI switcher/repeater, not pass through. ("Pass through" means no processing is taking place.) In addition to at least two HDMI-in and one HDMI-out ports, you'll want at least one optical and digitial coax in, some composite connections, a few component video in connections, etc.

4.) Audio formats? Every decent product should have Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS decoding capabilities. With the advent of Blu-ray a couple of new formats have emerged--Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. These are uncompressed audio soundtracks that, given a decent set of speakers, will sound superior to the older formats, which are "lossy".

5,) Blu-ray? If you are planning on buying a Blu-ray player in the future you should "future proof" yourself by buying HD-ready home theater equipment today.

I have put together a budget HD product list for those just getting started: http://www.amazon.com/The-Best-Hi-Def-Home-Theater-on-a-Budget/lm/R1M8CM8FMVSKF5/ref=cm_lm_byauthor_title_full

If you feel too overwhelmed you can go with the Onkyo HTIB I mentioned earlier. The 6100 and above is HD.: http://www.us.onkyo.com/prod_class.cfm?class=Systems

Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck.

NEED HELP for new PC build?

Dane

want to build a gaming PC because my current PC sucks. It is an HP a6700y (dont be jealous of my GPU, Geforce 6150se)
i would like this PC to run Arma 2 and 3 on high settings. Other games like BAttlefield 3 would be nice to play on high to ultra too.
Please giv advise because i do not know how this stuff works. i know only the basic componets ( CPU,GPU,Mobo ect.)

Approximate Purchase Date: Summer of 2012

Budget Range: $850 After Rebates

System Usage from Most to Least Important: General > Gaming > Photos
Parts Not Required: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, OS ( my OS is Windows Vista i most likely wil upgrade to 7 or 8 when it comes out.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com, microcenter.com

Country: USA

Parts Preferences: processor above 3.0 ghz quad core or better

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe

Monitor Resolution: N/A

Additional Comments: Preferred GPU GTX 560 ti or GTX 570
those intel CPUs are expensive i was looking at a amd phenom II x4 3.5 Ghz is that good for gaming and i think i am going to try to go with a 570

Answer
*** Update ***

It's hard to recommend AMD for a new build, because Sandy Bridge performs so much better.

The low-cost Phenom II X4 8xx models aren't even real Phenoms, just renamed Athlons without L3 cache. Their performance suffers in CPU-intensive games like Starcraft 2 and Skyrim.

The Phenom II X4 970 is probably AMD's best bang/buck processor for gaming, but even the Core i3 2100 matches it's performance in most titles. And nothing from AMD touches the Core i5 2400 or higher.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/4083/the-sandy-bridge-review-intel-core-i7-2600k-i5-2500k-core-i3-2100-tested/20
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-560-ti-448-core-benchmark,3082-4.html

But if you wanted to go with AMD to keep costs down, you'd be looking at:

GPU - HIS IceQ X Turbo Radeon HD 6950 2GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161372

CPU- Phenom II X4 970
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103894

Mobo- Gigabyte GA970A AM3+
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128519

Power supply- Seasonic S12II 620W 80 Plus
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151096

RAM- G.SKILL Ripjaws 4GB DDR3 1600
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277

HDD- Seagate Barracuda 1TB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148697

DVD Burner - free with hard drive, promo offer

Case - Cooler Master HAF 912
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119233

That's $810, you could double your RAM to 8gb for $30 more. The Radeon HD 6950 generally outperforms the GTX 560 Ti, especially in Battlefield 3. The overclocked 2gb model linked above will almost match a GTX 570.

http://www.guru3d.com/article/battlefield-3-vga-and-cpu-performance-benchmark-test/6

****
Definitely a Core i5 2400 or 2500K system... I'm thinking a classified edition 448 core GTX 560 Ti, if not a GTX 570...

is this a good gaming pc?

Portable PA System building and home made speakers/amplifiers...?

Alex J

PROBLEM:
What happens if you put a 2 ohm speaker in a circuit that is Suppose to have a 10 ohm speaker?

Context:
I work out 1.2amps @ 12 volts = 14.4 watts power @ 10 ohms
then,-------1.2amps @ 9 volts = 10.8 watts power @ 7.5 ohms

these are all odd numbers.
what will happen if i put a 2 ohm or 4 ohm speaker in one of those circuits?

note. the amplifier will have a fan on it...

this is the amplifier: http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=220055

Answer
It looks like you misread the specs. What I see is 32 watts into 8 ohms. I don't see anything about a 10 ohm speaker. It will operate at voltages from 10 to 44 volts DC. This means you could power this amp with a 12 volt battery with no problem.
2 ohm speakers are normally meant for high output current amplifiers. They get the most power out for those situations that need the power or where you simply want the power.
An amplifier that is designed for 10 ohm speakers probably needs 10 ohm speakers. You'll see higher ohm speakers in many battery powered devices. This limits the amount of power demand from the battery and helps with battery life. Pagers, hand held 2-way radios, etc, will have speakers around 35 ohms or so.
Depending on the amplifier, you can connect the 2 ohm speakers. Many amps today don't really care what the speaker impedance is, they simply put out the power. You can still adjust the volume to get the amount of sound you want. Still, other amps are fussy about the speaker impedance. You'll need to determine if your amp is one that can handle about any impedance or needs the correct impedance.

£5000 budget for home cinema including TV, amp speakers, blu-ray player what should I buy?

Mike

Answer
When assembling a complete A/V system for a home cinema I recommend putting the greatest emphasis on the display, which will always be the centerpiece of any good home cinema system. In this regard the Panasonic V Series plasma TVs are currently some of the best values you will find in terms of performance versus price. With respect to the average room and viewing distance make every effort to purchase a display size no smaller than 50 inches diagonal.

The next priority item would be a good Blu-ray Disc player with high performance DVD-upscaling capability. (There are still far more movies and misc. videos available on DVD-Video than Blu-ray Disc so do not discount the importance of quality DVD upscaling.) With your budget in mind I strongly recommend the nonpareil OPPO Digital BDP-83 Blu-ray Disc Player. (Yes there are other BD players that provide nearly equal performance with Blu-ray Discs for less money, however at the present time those manufacturers simply are unable to match OPPOâs expertise when it comes to upconverting/upscaling content on DVDs.) If you also enjoyâor have an interest inâplaying video games (or have children) then one of the latest Sony PlayStation 3 consoles would be an acceptable alternative.

First and foremost you should avoid a home-cinema-in-a-box, especially with the budget within which youâre working. Below, Iâve listed several highly competent, well-respected performers to choose from when it comes to multichannel A/V home cinema receivers. As a general rule of thumb I recommend receivers rated for a minimum of at least 90 to 100 Watts CONTINUOUS PER CHANNEL into 8 Ohms while driving at least two or more channels. Even better yet would be a multichannel receiver rated for continuous output into 4 Ohms (if you can find one in your price range.) The ultimate equipment configuration would consist of a preamplifier / processor (aka âpre-proâ) combined with a multichannel audio power amplifier or multiple audio power amplifiers.

A multichannel home cinema loudspeaker system is the most difficult item to recommend because subjective and personal preferences always play a major role in the selection process. Nevertheless, I have listed some of the better brands and models from which to choose. By the way, if need be, rather than compromise in order to acquire a 7.1-channel or greater surround sound system, itâs better to start with a higher quality, higher performance 5.1 surround sound loudspeaker system now to which you can easily add loudspeakers for the remaining surround and/or LFE channels later. On the other hand, when it comes to very high performance, low cost subwoofers the choice is simple: choose either a HSU Research ULS-15 or an SV Sound Ultra-13-equipped subwooferâwhichever provides the lowest total cost to youâif you want one or more of the most cost-effective, high performance commercial subwoofers currently available.

To complete your system add: one of the Logitech Harmony universal remotes, heavy duty loudspeaker mounting brackets or stands, good quality interconnects and loudspeaker cabling (which need not be expensive,) cable management accessories, power conditioners and a couple of display and system optimization (aka âcalibrationâ) discs.

What is the best 2.1 speaker system Microlab or Creative?

shehan.wik

I'm gonna buy a speaker system which is below USD 400. So recommend me a speaker to buy Creative SBS A300 or Microlab M-500.

Answer
I have used and still using Creative Inspire 4.1 and 7.1. True value for money and works like a charm when coupled with Creative Sound blaster sound cards.

Can a 5.1 Computer Speaker system (like Logitech or Creative) deliver a good movie surround sound experience?

trer

I have a 32" LCD TV and I was thinking about getting a 5.1 system (logitech or creative) to get surround sound for movies. However, I don't want to go all out for a high powered home theatre system from Onkyo or Sony or something. $59.99-$99.99 for a simple 5.1 system sounds more palatable to me than $199+. And since I don't have a big place, I don't need the huge speakers. However, do the computer speakers deliver a credible surround sound experience?

Answer
Hi!
I will try to provide as unbiased and honest an answer as possible...

If you want an all in 1 solution on a lower budget, then Logictech or Creative are good options... They are designed for game playback though, and as a result, will be "boomy" or more thunderous than a component audio system would offer.
Seeing as you spent a good amount of money on your TV (LCD's aren't "cheap") why not do your TV (and your ears) a favor, and live with the TV speakers for a few extra weeks until you can save ~$500 for a good quality home theater in a box (htib) solution from someone like Panasonic or even Sony. Trust me, the sound will be much more commensurate to audio/video watching/listening than a computer sound system would be. I relate those computer sound systems to Bose in terms of audio performance (this is NOT a good thing!) for home theater environments... BOOM without much emotion... Find it in yourself to save some extra dough and buy a system dedicated to a living/bed room environment and you will be much more satisfied with the overall listening arrangement!

What's the best surround sound speaker system I can buy for under 600 dollars. My room is around 4m^2.?

Josh K

I'm turning my room into a 'home theater' type room for gaming. I have a beast of a computer which I will connect to an AV receiver, which will be connected to a series 8 46" Samsung flat screen. I need a surround sound system to connect to the AV receiver, but my budget is under $600, seeing as the computer cost me 3.5k, the TV cost 1.5k, and the receiver cost $500.

My room is around 4m^2, and I don't want any 'tower' speakers, as I want to put them all in the corners of my room.

What is the best surround sound system I can buy for under $600 which will be compatible with up to date AV receivers?

Answer
If I had to suggest one brand for your situation it would be Axiom's QS8 v3 Speakers. In this case you have two space saving speakers with the benefit of surround sound at $582.00 USD. It appears to me you would be hard pressed to do better with a different set up with you budget of $600.00. Take a look at these novel speakers from one of the better brands on the market.

What is a good car stereo system i can get (i.e. subs amp speakers and deck) under $600?

D-Lop

im planning on outfitting my new car with a new stereo/sound system. I want the budget to be under $600 but alot of that can go towards the subs and amp and i want it to thump clean

Answer
OK SO LOONEY IS RETARDED. wish there was a "worst answer" vote

I have been in car stereos for a while and my first stereo was budgeted at $600 and cost me $1400. My second stereo was $10,000+ Try buying a few pieces at a time and you will be much happier that you waited an extra few months. What I would do is get a $300 deck and $300 dollar speakers Trust me when I say that you need to spend at least $300 on each to be happy. Decks will skip while driving and speakers will crackle when turned up. Then ask for a JL W1 12" sub in a box for x-mas. By then you should have some more saved up to buy a $40 wire kit and a $200-$300 amp. Now there is so much to learn like 60w rms x4 amp could run your 4 speakers or 225 watts RMS x 2 in bridged mode (4-ohm stable in bridged mode). So what you need to do is call the number and tell them what you want. but dont sacrifice your stereo budget to have it right now.
BUT WAIT IT GETS BETTER check out the link and everything is on sale.

Logitech Speaker System Z523?

Ashley

I recently bought the Z523 speaker system. Does anyone know how I can get both speakers to work properly. The problem with the speakers is that sometimes only one of the speakers produce sound and the other one doesn't. I usually have to turn around the green cord while its plugged in my pc and listen until both speakers produce sound. I was wondering if someone has any ideas on how I can resolve this issue.

Answer
Sounds like your audio port may be the problem. Test the port with a pair of headphones, if it behaves the same way, the problem is with the port. If not, then the speaker plug may be at fault.

Logitech Speaker System Z523 Question?

Speaker Systems?

MistyCreek

What is the best home sterio system that i can afford?
My price range is 0 to 300 bucks.
i know of some great brands but.... I dont know where to get them?

Answer
Well, at that price, you're most likely looking at the stuff that Walmart or Best Buy will be carrying.

Listening tests at the store are useless since they won't have the speakers set up properly, and "LOUD" doesn't give you an accurate test for quality.

I'd check around the various review sites - maybe go to the library and check out their issue on cheap speaker systems.

Problem with laptop speakers?

b e r r y

I use Windows 7 64-bit on a Dell laptop and everytime I plug in my earphones my music plays as expected but then the sound randomly switches to speakers when the sound comes from a different source such as my Skype message bleep. When I click on the speaker icon on the bottom right hand side of my desktop two sound sources come up, the earphones and the speaker. When I plug in the earphones, the green bar moves under the speaker icon as if it's still playing through the speakers (even if the audio is playing through my headphones). How can I stop this so my laptop automatically mutes speakers when I plug in my earphones and doesnt switch between them randomly? Thanks.

Sony HT-CT660 sound bar with wireless subwoofer?

Juan De lu

I just bought a Sony HT-CT660 sound bar with wireless subwoofer (http://store.sony.com/46-sound-bar-with-wireless-subwoofer-zid27-HTCT660/cat-27-catid-All-Sound-Bars?_t=pfm%3Dcategory) and planning on buying a 7.2-channel 4K Wi-Fi Network A/V Receiver (http://store.sony.com/7.2-channel-4k-wi-fi-network-a-v-receiver-zid27-STRDN1040/cat-27-catid-All-Speakers-and-Stereo-Components), does sony have wireless speakers that I can add so I can have a surround sound home theater set? I don't want to buy a home theater set with the player and speakers WITH WIRES.

Answer
Sorry, but you can't mix and match those two systems.

The STRDN1040 is a full-on high quality AV surround receiver. Wireless rear (or wireless anywhere) speakers have no place being used with such a fine amp. It doesn't have that feature because it would compromise the sound quality and undermine the reason for buying a high quality receiver in the first place.

If you wanted wireless rear speakers then you should have bought something like the Sony BDV-N790W.

However, there are no true wireless home theatre speakers. The speakers need power to make sound. They also need power to work any wireless receiver module. That power has to come from somewhere. Your wireless sub has to plug in to the mains. It's the same with any "wireless" speakers. Batteries alone aren't up to the task.

In most cases "wireless" means there's no direct link from the main player unit to the rear speakers. But there will be a power cord and usually at least one linking speaker cable between the rear speakers. Often the power comes from the sub. So the rear speakers are connected to the subwoofer rather than the main unit.

None of the main manufacturers do wireless front and centre speakers.

Bluetooth wireless connectivity requires far too much audio compression to use for the main front speakers. You'll hear the drop in sound quality with on-the-fly audio compression. Bluetooth is okay for sending music data files that a main unit decodes and plays. But trying to compress the front channel speaker outputs as a live stream is just asking too much. The sub channel is an exception. There's far less data to compress because the channel is dealing with audio from a very small segment of the frequency range; typically 0-120Hz or less. Rear channels do sound worse though though via wireless. The trade-off is that there's very little really important sound carried via the rears so it's an acceptable compromise. This is not being elitist or snobby about sound. It's just an honest appraisal and true reflection of what's actually happening once you sweep away the marketing BS.

Question about 5.1 computer speaker system.?

Dean Chris

I'm thinking about buying a 5.1 Computer Speaker System (http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Computer-PC-Subwoofer-5-1-Multimedia-Speaker-System-/380364248289?pt=PCA_Speakers&hash=item588f79d4e1 / You can read the description of it there) I'm afraid I will buy it and not have the right place to plug in the wires. I have a 2010 Studio XPS 8100 running Windows 7 Home Premium. I don't exactly know what music card I have. If it helps any here's a picture of the back of the computer:

What computer speaker system should i get,the logitech z323 with the subwoofer or the bose companion 3 series2?

p

i want a speaker system with rich sound and good quality

Answer
Of the three listed the Bose Companion 3 comes closest to rich sound and good quality. A few questions you might want to ask yourself? I do this regularly, what is my reference for quality sound? How do I know it when I hear it? Is this purchase best affordable now or later? Afterwards, choose about 5 of your favorite songs and listen to them on whatever you are considering purchasing. You will be pleasantly surprised what your ears will tell you, somehow your pocketbook will find a way to agree. Mine told me the Bose Companion 5 speakers. I highly recommend them, particularly if you enjoy movies. Based on your choices you will get a richer sound quality.
You can pick up a set of Bose C5 off of ebay between 200-250 US dollars.
I thought that was a good deal, but I ran across a bid for 102 US dollars for Bose Companion 5. I bet you could do even better with the Companion 3.
Nothing like a good sale, it makes all of those doubts and doubters circle the drain. lol.

I am sure you will make the right decision.

Best.

P.S. I am not to sure of the previous point made about Bose Waveguide patent, from a gentleman that tried to tell us all something only he understood. Whatever it was, it was plenty simple to him. However, to clear up in bad information I have found the patent case number assigned to Bose waveguide system, making the whole musical apparatus a unique Bose intellectual property. http://www.faqs.org/patents/app/20090252363

This is to much information. Nevertheless, this patent explains how Bose can accomplish rich sound towards the music reproduced. By the way I could tell how it hurt and pained you to burst a bubble. Hopefully you will be greeted in the Emergency Room with a booster shot and an enema, to loosen up all that crap causing you to have such pain bursting a bubble. Be sure you call, I want to be there and hold your hand. Maybe I will cuff it so you can't hurt yourself and move.

I was being facitious, please know that I have the utmost respect for your pincipled opinion and enjoy teasing and debating. No matter how much we disagree you have my respect of your opinion and I am a better person for it. Know that moving forward, I think highly of you.
Now, to the matter at hand. Intellectual properties that earn a patent are never firsts. They have put a wrinkle on the idea, contraption or thing. Once reviewed in the archives, if their is no duplication, then the patent will be pending approval. A few more steps, like fees and lawerly exercises the person or the company is awarded the patent in their name. This is a unique process in the U.S., this is hardly the case in China or Russia. The state will steal it old school. Bose was awarded patents because they made a so called change or improvement to call it theirs. This is recognized as Bose's Intellectual properties. An aspect of the business they defend vociferously, as they should. Bose claim to fame is an evolutionary product, not the inventor of said device. Based on these facts as we know them, Bose makes music through the wave guide system that is outstanding. Outstanding enough to be a leader in the industry, for wave guide technology. They have a signature product, through that signature product Bose claims a signature sound. Mind you this signature sound came by way of Bose "think" not because of a new material in the devices. Bose mass produces product as cheaply and effectively as it can. Most businesses do. Smaller companies, or the ones who have better materials and a far better product like McIntosh do not mass produce at the scale of Bose. Bose is to Ford like McIntosh is to Ferrari their is no comparison, even the exotic Ford GT 40.

I have tried Harmon Kardon Soundsticks side by side, Focal and others. I have heard better than Bose, I am not a "homer" where Bose can do no wrong. I have an objective view point, I think to be valid. So often the criticisms have not been balanced, leaving an innocent bystander to defend themselves by the very mention of Bose. And should they be favorable in their comments they get the equivalent of being stoned. I don't agree with that. I argue the facts of the matter and consider the one's presented. Bose is not for everyone, but they are doing something right, something noteworthy, something the others are not doing. Surely, not everyone has poor taste and is dumb on the matter. Certainly, Bose has some notable achievements. The person asked for a rich sound, not the richest sound, not even the best sound, just a rich sound. Bose doesn't even have a rich sound? Bose can't be purchased for cheap, just like others? Everyone is being ripped off if they buy Bose full price? How is that any different than purchasing any other brand full price?

Good luck.

I think bose speakers are expensive

Answer
NAD makes excellent receivers but of the brands you listed I would go with an Onkyo usually the most technology for your buck...for speakers Look at Polk Audio; Energy; Aperion Jamo I don't care that much for Klipsch I find them too bright and forward but that is just personal preference; Polk Audio also has a somewhat etched sound as if your listening to speakers and not music...the Aperion 4T Intimus Hybrid 5.1 are fantastic also the Jamo S406 HCS 5.1 are a real bargain for quality speakers...Oh.... in India I would defiantly look at Dali speakers they are suppose to be fantastic..Aperion is going to be too expensive made in USA....and an imported item...

Connect a bare wire speaker system to xbox 360?

Hereru

I have an old 5.1 surround system (at least I think that's what it is--it has five speakers and a subwoofer) which I'd like to try and hook up to my 360. Problem is, it uses bare wire connectors and spring plugs. Are there any kinds of adapters or any possible way to connect it?

I do not have acces to soldering equipment, nor would I know how to use it.

Thanks in advance.

Answer
From your description it sounds like you have PART of a 5.1 sound system - the 5 speakers (+ subwoofer - the "point 1" part), but if they use "bare wire connectors" with spring clips on the speakers to grab the bare wires (not plugs), then you still need a 5.1 amplifier. The Audio Out from an Xbox 360 will not power those speakers, not with any sort of adapter. However, you need a small plane and the first answer is pointing you to a rocket ship to Mars. That is why there are quote marks (") around the word "adapter" - that is NOT any kind of adapter.
If your "surround system" actually does have an amp, all you need is to find out how it gets its signal - Xbox has a variety of outputs - your challenge is to find a cable system from the Xbox that matches your amplifier's Inputs. If you write back with Additional Details describing those inputs, or if all you really have is 6 speakers, either way let us know and we can go from there... Good luck!

Buzzing sound developed on speaker system twice, any ideas as to cause(s) and resolution?

rain4novem

On the ground floor of our townhouse, I have my computer workstation that includes of a large CPU off to the side and two 22" Samsung LCD displays in a semi-circle arrangement. Behind the displays, I have two speakers. These then are flush against an exterior wall. There is a light switch near the speakers of this exterior wall, and a circuit breaker box to the far right (about 3 feet away) from the CPU and monitors.

About three months ago, I noticed the right speaker developed a persistent hum when turned on. Moving its location did not increase or decrease the hum, it remain constant. Part of me wondered if EM interference had altered the speaker, but part of me also wondered if it had just gone bad.

So I replaced the speakers with a different set of speakers. At first they worked fine, but now, three months later, the left speaker has yet again developed a buzzing hum when turned on. The left speaker does not have the hum.

The fact that two different types of speakers both developed persistent humming on the right speaker now makes me seriously concerned about EM interference. Any ideas as to cause(s) and resolution?

Could the Samsung LCD panels cause it? If so, any fixes?
Could the back wall with its light switch and circuit breaker cause it?
Could something be wired wrong within the wall, and if so, how to test and how to fix?

When we first moved in, the circuit breaker had a slight hum associated with the circuit break for the downstairs (associated with the computer) but that went away after a month. But maybe that's connected to this problem?

Many thanks for any advice!
Correction: three months later, the right speaker has yet again developed a buzzing hum when turned on. The left speaker does not have the hum.

Thanks! :-)
Thanks William -- switching the speaker cables still biases it to the original "right" speaker. So it follows the speaker even if you change their locations or change their wired connections. It does not change intensity if you move the speakers. The intensity only changes if you turn up or down the volume (and thus the electronic feed).

I'm wondering if EM interference magnetized the internal parts of the original right-hand speaker, so that when it has a line-feed in, this produces the buzz when it really should only produce silence. Does that make sense?

Answer
Speakers cannot create a buzz. They can only reproduce what is sent to them. Check the inputs to whatever audio amplifier feeds them. To prove that the speaker is not the cause, switch the left & right speaker wires, while you have the buzz, and observe that the buzz changes sides.
A faulty speaker can develop a rattling buzzy sound, but its loudness would track the volume level and would be absent during quiet passages.

Wiring a speaker system in your car?

Matthew

How do you wire a system in your car? I know you need to buy speakers a sub and a amp but what connects to what?

Answer
Youtube is your friend, but I'll take the bait anyway.

HU's are best installed using a wiring harness. They plug into the car's stock radio harness and give you the req'd bare wires to connect to the new HU. Soldered connections with heat shrink insulation work best, but require the most time and skill. Crimp caps are quick, easy, and effective if used correctly.
In most cases a dash kit will be needed as well - they adapt your dash opening to be fitted with the new HU.

Amp -
Power wire - typically 4 or 8 awg, is run from the battery to the amp (+) terminal. This wire needs to be fused near the battery.
Ground - Same size as the power wire. Runs from the amp (-) to a ground location somewhere near the amp. The ground connection needs to be a bare metal connection w/no paint, dirt or debris. It should also be a sizable piece of metal.
Remote - small gauge wire that runs from the HU's remote turn on lead to the amp's "rem" terminal. This triggers the amp's turn-on circuit when the HU is turned on.
Signal (RCA cables) - Run from the HU's rca pre-amp outputs to the amp. They carry the music signal from the HU to the amp.
Speaker wire - Usually 12 awg (for sub(s)) to 16 awg (for speakers) - has to be routed under carpets, trim panels, door panels etc to the speakers/sub(s).

Speakers -- it's always easiest to match the stock speaker size and use the stock locations, but a good installer can always come up with a location that sounds better. Custom speaker install can be time consuming and expensive.

Subs -- They need a box, but not any ol' box. For a sub to sound its best it needs to have an enclosure specifically designed and built according to their electro-mechanical specifications -- commonly referred to as thiele-small, or t/s specs. A great sub in a bad box can easily be out-performed by a decent sub in a quality box.
If you insist on a pre-fabricated box (most people do) at least take the time to make sure the internal volume (sealed or ported) and tuning frequency (ported only) are similar to the manufacturer's recommendation.

Stero speaker system for my car?

Flatscreen

Hey guys so I want to get a new stero system for my 2002 mustang...I'm looking on Bestbuy and there's one 69.99 and it's iPod ready... I want it to be iPod ready! Is that a good price? I'm not sure how much to spend on a system all I want is to be able to get good radio stations... And to beable to plug my iPod in! Does the quality of sound change with different systems or Is that just what speakers u have? Thanks for your help

Answer
You definitely want to do more research.
Ipod ready is definitely a plus with sound quality versus some radio-transmitter. However, ultimate sound quality comes from the speakers which are only as good as the power they get. Generally Headunits only offer about 18-20watts per channel, not enough. For good sound, invest in a 4-channel amp to power your speakers above 50watt per channel. It will be the most noticeable difference you can do for a system since most of the audio comes through those mid to higher frequencies.

So that very well may be a decent deal but all you are really looking for in a headunit/receiver are those kind of features along with ease-of-use types and aesthetics.

Amplifier or Speakers for my Microphone?

MR. ME

i am buying a new sennheiser wireless microphone system but should i buy an amp similar to this

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Marshall+-+10W+Guitar+Combo+Amplifier/9219482.p?id=1218061793594&skuId=9219482&st=guitar amp&cp=1&lp=1

or some speakers kinda like these

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Behringer+-+Eurolive+P1220+12%22+2-Way+PA+Speaker+(Each)/8885691.p?id=1213399954075&skuId=8885691

so please give your best advice and if either type (not specific product) would work could you tell me which would give better sound

Answer
The first one's designed for guitar not microphone. In theory, you could use a 1/4 to XLR cable to connect a mic but it would sound pretty bad, especially since guitar amps don't reproduce vocal-specific frequencies very well.

The second is a passive PA speaker, so it needs an external power amp to drive it.

You're probably looking for an active/powered PA speaker like these:

Wireless Sound System For Stage Including Speakers?

Eli O

I work at a private school, and one of my several duties is running the drama department. Our stage is in the gymnasium which is something that can not be changed and we do not have regular stage lighting. Our sound system is rather old and it is difficult to hear some of the students, even with our current microphones and projection. The PTO has come to me and said that they are willing to start building up a fund to install a new state of the art sound system. What I am looking to get is about 25 wireless lapel microphones, that can be controlled from the middle of the gym and easily moved away for PE classes. I realize this will involve some hooking up and unhooking each time. We don't have any permanent place that the equipment can remain hooked up. We could also use about four to 6 wireless speakers that are compatable with the microphones or something where I can hook all the microphones up to the same speakers. If anyone has any ideas where I can start to look for some of this equipment and how much it would cost, (I know it is pricey!) it would be of great help to my students, the school, and myself.

Google Nexus 7 vs. Amazon Kindle Fire HD?

Tasha

Okay. I'm looking to get a tablet to use for school mostly (taking notes, studying...) , maybe a few games to play here and there. I've narrowed it down between these two: the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD. Since they are the same price for the one I want, I'm just curious to what those of you have experience with these devices think about them. I have a MacBook pro, also, and am curious about any connectivity I could have between the devices as well (Bluetooth I'm aware of so far). I do not want an iPad mini because of the price and plus I prefer the Android system for mobile devices than iOS.

Answer
Kindle Fire HD is more consumer friendly and is great for watching movies with the fun features like dual WiFi antenna for faster downloading speed and streaming and digital dolby audio speakers with awesome sound quality and the HDMI out makes it possible to have the output on bigger screen.

Nexus 7 on the other hand is the one with more power and has the built-in google play store. Whereas on Kindle Fire HD you can side-load apps from google play store. Otherwise it does have its own app store with over 90k apps by now.

Comments on Kindle Fire HD vs Nexus 7 - Would definitely be helpful on this decision:

Answer
The Pros and Cons of Ceiling Speakers
In wall and in ceiling speakers may sound fun & fancy, but they are not suited for just any wall or ceiling. This article will help you make the right choice.

Office buildings, airports and restaurants were the first homes of ceiling speakers. They can be easily recognized by the dense grilles that pour decibels right into your head.

But why would someone want ceiling or in wall speakers, instead of a pair of normal, efficient and highly affordable speaker cabinets. There could be a few reasons:

â¢Saving some space in the room;
â¢Maintaining the aesthetics of the room;
â¢Hiding the wires;
â¢Getting rid of the holes in the walls.
In the past, there weren't many fans of wall or ceiling-mounted speakers. While there are still people that think plenum-mount technology is just a whim, on the other side it is this technology in particular that gains more and more advocates. This is probably due to a change in life styles. People want the environment adapted to their needs, not the other way around.

There's one sure thing with in-wall and ceiling speakers: they are not for those who are into high-end audio. You could hardly find an audiophile willing to trade the deep bass that he or she loves so much for a bit of extra shelf space.

But even if not an audiophile, you'll need to pay attention to the following parameters:

â¢Frequency response - gives you the range of the audible spectrum that the speakers can reproduce; the human ear can hear 20 Hz to 20 MHz, thus the more a speaker approaches this interval, the better.
â¢Power handling - specifies the ranges of power the speakers can safely receive from the amplifier (e.g. 20-100 watts);
â¢Efficiency - also called sensitivity, this rating indicates how effectively the speaker uses the power sent to it by the amplifier.
A key aspect in having in-wall or in-ceiling speakers is how you capture the back wave. You can't always know what happens behind that wall, how big the hole really is, or if it's sealed. The answer is to use sealed speakers, no matter their location. Otherwise you'll have a lot of rear acoustic energy wasted into the back-wall and a distorted, uneven sound.

Mounting the speakers
Usually it is a lot easier to mount ceiling speakers than in-wall speakers, at least where there is a fake ceiling. Mounting in-wall speakers is more of an architectural problem. That's probably why these are also called "architectural speakers". People don't like to have small rooms, thin walls, and wires bursting from one room to another.

The easiest alternative is to project the audio system before even having the walls built up. The advantage is freedom to plan things (speakers among others) exactly how you want them. Figuring out the wires is the part you should do before building the walls. Some planning is needed ahead: talking to an electrician, finding out how much wire you need, seeing what kind of wire you can actually use (UL-rated wire is approved for use in walls in all 50 states). Also, seeing the layout of your lighting system, and how it would interfere with that of the speakers.

Inserting the speakers can be done on the run, as the wall is being raised. Some people successfully use the drywall as a speaker's enclosure. The key is to have the speakers in the right place from the start. This would save you time, money and nerves.

Which Sony Speaker System?

Joey

Hello Yahoo Answers community! I'm an aspiring 16 year old DJ in Charlotte, North Carolina and I'm looking for a speaker that will really bring the house down while DJing a party! My venues usually aren't huge but I'd still like a fairly loud speaker that can easily fill a room without overpowering the system. I've narrowed my brand name down to Sony because they certainly are reliable (i'm a proud owner of a PS3 haha!). And I've narrowed the Sony speakers down to the 720 watt Muteki LBT-ZX99i and the 1,000 watt LBT-ZUX9. I'm wondering which one is more 'bang for your buck'. I also realize there is a few hundred watt differential, but does anyone think that will make a difference? I'm also wondering if anyone has any personal experience with either of these systems. Any advice/comments helps! Thanks in advance!

Answer
Sony does not make professional DJ speakers. The speakers you are looking at are home stereo speakers.

Try a set of QSC K-12's they are reasonable priced beginner speakers.

home speakers for dj system....help?

mr_pawr

right i have a cdj setup and mixer here but have no way of playing it.
can someone please tell me what kind of home speakers we need and provide me with a link to a page where we can purchase them.

Answer
There are a few ways of going about this.

You can just pick up a standard stereo amplifier and speakers - and plug into it. Check out pawn shops for some deals - but if you don't know what you are looking at, see if you can find someone to come with you.

This is good for a small studio, or for house parties - but if you are going to be taking it out anywhere, you will probably want to invest in a decent PA.

The best bet for this is some JBL 'Eon' or Mackie powered speaker cabinets:

http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/JBL-Eon-1500-Passive-Speaker?sku=600226&src=3WWRWXYB&ZYXSEM=0

http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product?sku=605255V

With a couple of those - and a mixer, you can pull off professional sound at smaller venues, and even outside. We used to rent them from a local music store whenever we would play a show at a place that didn't have a P.A. - and they worked fantastically.

If you aren't sure how serious you are, I would stick with the stereo system at your house, and see if anyplace local rents P/A gear.

Keep in mind though - if you do invest the money in a P/A - you can charge other bands/performers for using it.

Can I plug my ipod into a...?

Q. Can I plug my Ipod into a Coby CS-MP77 75-Watt High Performance MP3 Speaker System? I want to buy them but I'm not sure if i can plug my Ipod onto them to listen to music.

Answer
According to this: http://www.cobyusa.com/?p=prod&prod_num_id=166&pcat_id=2006

it has a 3.5mm stereo plug so you will be able to plug the speakers into your headphone socket and play music from it that way. You however cannot dock your Ipod like you would on some Ipod-specific speakers (at least theres no mention of a dock anyways).

Still the option of plugging it in via headphone socket is much better since you can also plug in your computer/ phone/ other systems as well.

Hope this helps.

Which surround sound system should I buy for my PS3?

Jake

I'm on a very low budget and want to buy something for under $150. Should I get the Playstation Surround Sound Bar or the Cody CSP96 5.1 surround sound for $50? The link for it on Amazon is here:

http://www.amazon.com/Coby-CSP96-300-Watt-5-1-Channel-Theater/dp/B001U5U3HY

Answer
I would consider Logitech Surround Sound Speakers Z506 (980-000430)

Multiple inputs make it easy to connect your PC, game console, iPod, DVD player and more
Rich 3D stereo in 5.1 surround sound, even from 2-channel stereo sources
75 watts (RMS) of balanced power and room-filling sound
Ported down-firing subwoofer pumps out deep, clean, booming bass
On-speaker bass control lets you easily dial the bass level up or down
