What speakers are loud and good for parties?

speaker system in house image

Jarrett

I live in a fraternity house im also a dj and at our last party the speakers blew but luckily not all of them. They were old and crappy anyways, im looking for a whole new speaker system for the house, maybe like 5 speakers(3 for inside and 2 for outside), an amp/receiver, and a subwoofer. but im not trying to spend 1000 bucks so something cheap but that give good quality sound, can be turned up LOUD(like yell over music loud), and that are tough and long lasting id rather spend more money on loud, quality sound that lasts for years than some distorted crappy sounding speakers just because theyre easy on my wallet

Answer
Go to guitar center and get a PA system

Some great packages at a decent price. Thats where my fraternity got our speaker system for parties

How to conceal wires for a home theater system?

steelersfa

We recently bought a bose v20 5.1 speaker system. We bought a house from a previous owner so we don't know how to fully conceal the wires to the speakers. Please give me your sugestions
Thanks

Answer
You can run them neatly along the trim, if you run them in strait lines and secure it they aren't that noticeable... also they sell flat wire you can paint the same color as the wall, there is also flat wire that can be run under carpet...

Mounting ceiling speakers in a wall?

I have a 7.1 surround sound receiver. I bought a 5.1 speaker set and am buying 2 additional speakers for the middle satellite speakers. I need in-wall speakers for logistic reasons. Most of the in-wall speakers are too big for the location I need but the round shape of the in-ceiling speakers would work.

Are there any issues with using in-ceiling speakers in a side-wall?

Answer
I did the same thing using a 9.1 system. Basically make sure of the depth of the wall. Some inner walls are not deep enough to accommodate the speaker. I used Polk, a little more expensive but the end result was satisfying considering that you don't want to be cutting into your drywall and running cable more than once.

What is the perfect Home theater System?

BLESSED PL

Ok so my Playstation and PC is hooked up to my TV but the audio sucks on my HDTV so I want to know what system for less than $250 will be able to plug both computer and PS and have amazing sound preferably 5.1 system ?

Thanks guys

Answer
- Active speakers have built in amplifiers in the speakers (and/or built in amplifier in the subwoofer and the speakers plug into the subwoofer). Examples of active speakers would be computer speakers or sound bars.
- Most active speaker systems have very little power and low end quality and no additional features other than producing audio. = Garbage (I don't recommend computer speakers or sound bar speakers).

- Blu-ray or DVD home theaters in a box is a disc player (amplifier) that comes with and hooks up to compatible passive speakers with speaker wire.
- All HTIB systems have very little power and very low end quality and not much additional features other than producing audio. = Garbage (I don't recommend HTIB systems).

- What I do recommend are receivers (amplifiers) that hook up to compatible passive speakers with speaker wire, computers or blu-ray/dvd player or game consoles hook up to the receiver with a hdmi cable for audio then receiver hooks up to the tv with a hdmi cable for video. You can find good cheap speaker wire and hdmi cables at monoprice or amazon.
- If you notice below, brands that make good receivers do not make good speakers. = I don't recommend a system that bundles a receiver with speakers, but the Onkyo HT-(S3500 or S5500 or S6500 or S7500 .ect) system is not too bad. = So if your on a budget, then I recommend you get a low/high end 7.1/7.2 surround sound receiver and you get mid end or high end stereo speakers (you can get+add more speakers later to have a surround sound system).

Some examples of good 5.1 surround sound audio speakers.
- Low end bookshelf 5.1 speakers = Polk Audio 5.1 Blackstone TL(1600 or 1900 or 2600); Klipsch 5.1 HD Theater (300 or 500 or 600); Energy 5.1 (Take Classic or RC-Micro or CB-10); MonoPrice 5.1 Premium 10565; M&K Movie; JBL SCS 145.2 or JBL CS480.

Some examples of good 5.1/5.2 surround sound audio/video receivers. (Overall=low end).
- Low end = Onkyo HT-RC430 or Onkyo TX-SR313; Pioneer VSX-(522-K or 523-K); Denon AVR-(1513 or E200); Yamaha HTR-3066 or Yamaha RX-(V373 or V375);
- High end = Onkyo TX-NR(414 or 525); Pioneer VSX-(822-K or 823-K); Denon AVR-(1613 or E300 or 1713 or X1000); Yamaha HTR-(4065 or 4066) or Yamaha RX-(V473 or V475 or S600);

Some examples of good 7.1/7.2 surround sound audio/video receivers. (Overall=mid end).
- Low end = Onkyo HT-RC(R2295 or 460 or 560) or Onkyo TX-NR(515 or 616 or 626); Pioneer VSX-(1022-K or 1023-K or 42 or 43 or 60 or 70 or 1122-K or 1123-K); Denon AVR-(E400 or x2000 or 2113CI); Yamaha RX-(V573 or V575 or V673 or V675);
- High end = Onkyo TX-NR(717 or 727 or 818 or 828 or 1010); Pioneer VSX-(1222-K or 1223-K or 1323-K) or Pioneer Elite-SC-(61 or 63 or 71 or 72); Denon AVR-(X3000 or 3313CI or x4000 or 4520CI); Yamaha (HTR-7065 or TSR-6750WA) or Yamaha RX-(V773WA or V775WA or A720 or A730 or A820 or A830 or A1020 or A1030);

Some examples of good 9.1/9.2 surround sound audio/video receivers. (Overall=high end).
- Low end = Onkyo TX-NR929; Pioneer SC-(1522-K or 1523-K); Denon (none); Yamaha RX-(A2020 or A20130);
- High end = Onkyo TX-NR(3010 or 5010); Pioneer Elite-SC-(65 or 67 or 68 or 75 or 77 or 79); Denon AVR-4520CI; Yamaha RX-(A3020 or A3030);

Stock stereo, 6-disc in dash CD player, 6 speaker system(4 6x8's leg level in front and rear doors, 2 eye level tweeters in front doors). I am no audiophile, nor a tech-spert. I think I have a blown front 6x8, and just want to replace them all, with some good thump, but can plug and play in the stock system/location. You are all the best!

Answer
yes and no.
the radio will send enough wattage for the speakers to play at moderate to low volumes but when you start to crank the volume past halfway they will sound distorted because the radios internal amp will be overworking itself trying to supply the necessary wattage, for best result you would need a amp on them

Can you connect a 6-channel surround sound system to a laptop?

Sagnik D

Is there any way to connect 3 stereo-mini connectors for 6-channel speaker system, to my laptop. I normally use just the green cable to connect it, but I want to hook up my surround sound. So I have a yellow and black cable as well. And I was wondering if there was any external device that could connect all of them to my audio port.

Answer
No. Surround sound are mostly in 5.1 and some blu ray disc movies have a 7.1 surround sound. They are coded in either Dolby Digital or DTS. To be able to play the surround sound material you need a decoder, and they are usually found in a receiver, home theater in a box or a preamp. I have not seen any Lop Top computer with either a Dolby or DTS logo. Hope this will help you out.

Answer
I would recommend a 70v system. this will allow you to have many speakers connected to 1 amplifier. and you will be able to tune the volume at each of the speakers.

companies like TOA sell 70v speakers for indoor / outdoor , on wall or in wall mounting

How can I hook up more than one device for quick switching on a single speaker system?

I would like to connect my TV and computer to the same speaker system, and switch between them at will. Can I do this somewhat cheaply? I don't need 5.1 sound, an inexpensive 2.1 system would be fine, I just want to make sure I can switch between 2 inputs.

Answer
A simple RCA A/V switch will work fine - you may need some adapters depending on what inputs and speakers you are using:

http://www.amazon.com/RCA-DT902AV-2-Way-V-Switcher/dp/B0014KOAD8/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1314367962&sr=1-1

Just use the red/white audio jacks - leave the yellow video unconnected.

How much is this gonna cost me for my Jeep Wrangler?

Exodus

I have a 1999 Jeep Wrangler and I really want to put a better sound system in it. So I want a new stereo and two subs in my trunk. Am I gonna need anything else to go along with it? Plus, how much is this all gonna cost me? I really need to know, thanks. JEEP PRIDE!

Answer
You will need about $50 in extra parts to get started (faceplate adapter, wiring harness adapter, antenna adapter, wire crimps).
As far as the rest goes, it's all about how much the equipment is going to cost you.
I got a $100 radio, $60 speakers so my total was well under $300 without adding subs.
Adding subs you will need an amp(s) - $100 - $300. Sub box ($30 - $100 per box) and you will want to get a face that is designed to control your subs ($60 - $700)....so you can see how wide your price range will be.

Do the install yourself. Install is VERY easy on Jeeps since you can just rip the carpet out and run the wires. Also doing the face plate install is simple and there are tons of people who have posted directions on the internets. If you pay to have the install done you can tack on an extra $150

Heythere

I have a house that was built in the 70s, and it has a home intercom system/stereo system. One speaker upstairs one down. How do I find the base and/or radio that it works with?

What sound system to go with these speakers?

Chris Mcco

I have just purchased and installed 4 x 100w 8ohm recessed ceiling speakers to a domestic kitchen. However I am unsure what system to wire them in to. Can anyone recommend a good system on the market? I would like something with a wireless connection so that I can play music from my iPad/phone without the need of aux cables, but this is cost dependant.

Any help is greatly appreciated, apologies for my vagueness!

Answer
Wireless i-pad is not really compatable with the speaker system you have; afordable wireless usually uses low power amplifiers driving very efficent speakers over wifi, because of cost; to drive those speakers to acceptable levels is going to require some amplifier power behind them; what you could do is wire the speakers to a regular receiver or amplifier then use a product like the Grace Digital GDI-IRA 500 or an Apple Air Port express... to achieve wireless, but you still have compatibility issues with the ipad ...another route would be to use something like the Soundcast SCS 100 which is good for 2 speakers , you may need an additional modual for 4 speakers though and a receiver that is air play compatable or you could get a modern receiver that is air play compatable..and hard wire the speakers to an airplay receiver....or just a regular stereo receiver and an air port express modual....all hard wired together but the connection to your I-pad or I phone would be wireless....

I'm thinking of buying surround sound. I don't have much money to spend, but the way i understand it all i have to buy is receiver, dvd player, and speakers? right? Can i buy only wireless speakers for the back two? Does the surround sound work for television or just dvds? help, tell me all you know please...

Answer
You have the right components in mind for a surround sound system. Yes, most systems will allow you to connect your TV to the system.

If you're interested in sound quality, wired rear speakers will be preferred. Crutchfield is a helpful website to get you started into the home theater. Their prices are middle ground, so I will also provide you with a price comparison website to let you see other prices from other online stores.

TIP: Look at brands such as Pioneer, JVC, and Yamaha in the $250-$500 for a complete system (i.e. home theater in a box, a.k.a. "HTIB"). I would avoid brands such as Sony and Bose due to their lack of performance value.

My rating of a 1520 at $850.00 would be "Poor Value" (Running VISTA with 1GB RAM)

As for the speakers...are you looking for a high end system or the low priced option?

You can buy the $29.00 cheapies or the BOSE selection for many dollars more.

Looking for a good pair of headphones...?

scaramanga

I'll be moving out soon, and because I won't be able to blast my games and music through my speakers (which I would normally replace by now) like I can now, I'm looking for a good pair of headphones, preferably in $100-range (or so), with some sort of surround-sound function, having a 3.5mm plug (or adapter), with wireless being a big plus. So far, I've found the Sennheiser RS 130 Wireless Headphones, which according to the multiple reviews I read are pretty good, and at $120, they seem to be worth it (when compared to good 5.1 PC speaker systems). But before I make a purchase, can anybody recommend me anything else (from personal experience, if possible)?

And from what I hear, Denon AH-D1000K headphones are loved by audiophiles, is that true? They're around the same price as the Sennheiser ones, but they're wired, are they much better for other reasons?
And I forgot to mention that I'd like them to be over-the-ear headphones, no earbuds or behind-the-head headphones or anything else.
If possible, I'd like specific models too...there's so many different models (along with prices) to choose from, and I don't know which one is worth the money.

so please give your best advice and if either type (not specific product) would work could you tell me which would give better sound

Answer
The first one's designed for guitar not microphone. In theory, you could use a 1/4 to XLR cable to connect a mic but it would sound pretty bad, especially since guitar amps don't reproduce vocal-specific frequencies very well.

The second is a passive PA speaker, so it needs an external power amp to drive it.

You're probably looking for an active/powered PA speaker like these:

Answer
I am gonna get a PlayStation 3. Why spend $350 for a system that will last another year and 1/2. When you can spend $50 more and it lasting until 2012! The PS3 has great graphics too, and there is barely top exclusives yet (God of War III, and Resistance 2 are coming out, that owns Halo 3!). Also, the online community is pointless in my opinion, you are still playing games online with people on PS3, whats so different with that from Live? Its no difference in my opinion. Also, XBOX 360 owners have one thing they brag about, which is playing music while they are playing games and how its not on the PS3....It will be eventually, and seriously, you can plop in an iPod speaker and its the exact same thing. So.....Yup. Also, Metal Gear Solid 4, was the only exclusive for a system to receive a 10 from GameSpot, a game-rating website that has been active for years!.....The PSP is fun, but the PS3 can do everything + more than what the PSP can do, its fun (like a portable Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo) and very hackable.....But.....in all, get a PS3! Its the best in my opinion! Tune into E3 2008 to find out a lot more previews and PS3 news!

If you're simply looking for bass, get a receiver and sub, and then buy these: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=299-028

they bolt onto your sofa or whatnot, and shake your seat at the frequency that your sub will put out. It's based on the fact that you feel bass more than hear it.

I've been using onboard sound for the last year or 2 for my comp. & I've been saving up for a soundcard. So with that in mind what soundcard would you recommend for my computer? Keep in mind I value quality of sound vs. distintion between speakers (since I only have a 2.1 speaker system. I mainly play Halo 2 & listen to MP3's and watch videos on my comp.
Thanks for answering.

Answer
On board sound are good enough if you have only 2.1 Speakers. But if you must, Sound Blaster X-FI Series is a good choice. They are range from around $70 to $179, depends on which model you pick.

Is there a completely wireless surround sound, home theater, system on the market?

toadyrock

There are plenty of rear speaker, wireless systems on the market does any manufacturer make a wireless or bluetooth system? I am looking for all 5 speakers to be wire free..

Answer
Weather or not there is would be a moot point, because wireless speakers are a tremendously bad idea!
1) If the speakers ARE truly wireless, then you need to constantly feed batteries to each speaker to power the individual amplifiers, at GREAT eventual cost to you!
2) If they are externally powered, then they need to be plugged in, so there goes your "completely wireless" system to begin with.
3) Have you ever talked on a cordless phone while walking through the house, only to find the 1 spot where the sound quality dropped dramatically? Well, wireless speakers run on the same frequencies and the more signals you flood your house with, the more likely you are to create frequency interference, thus, poor sound quality.
4) Wireless signals are normally frequency clipped (highs and lows eliminated) to save bandwidth, which makes for a very efficient transmission of signals, but very poor audio quality......

I could go on and on. but the simple answer is, I am sure there are "completely wireless home theater systems" out there, but you will NOT be pleased with them, even the BEST quality system will be inferior to a moderate quality wired system!

Hope this helps you make a decision!

Our band has been using peavey amps and cabinets. we looking to upgrade to better mains and subs and amps. we play outdoors most of the time. Our peavey system was ok for 100 or so people. now that more people are showing up our sound is not reaching towards the back. We are running a presonus studiolive 32.4.2ai digital mixer. peavey PV series power amps and peavey sp2x mains and a peavey sp118x subs. (we were using a peavey rq series mixer. we needed more channels and wanted to start recording so we bought the digital mixer.)

Answer
You have a pretty good system as-is. I assume your sp2x speakers are on speaker stands. They need to be up high enough to get over peoples heads. That is the only way you will get the sound to the back of the crowd. Aside from that, you might want to look at your amps - the spx2 can handle 1000 watts. You might just want to upgrade to a more powerful amp for your mains and maybe subs:

Hey thanks, I'm going to be using it as kinda a mobile dj system. I have a guitarcenter here in las vegas and I'm going to look at those last speakers that you mentioned. Do you happen to know what would be the best thing to hook the speakers to, then my computer to that same thing. That way i'll just play the music off my computer.

Answer
Do yourself a favor & do not buy those speakers. They are very bottom line, you'll be throwing away your money.

And those are not home speakers. How many home speakers do you know of that use "1/4" phone jack inputs for connection to an amplifier"?

Those are PA speakers. Cheaply built, poor sounding, unreliable PA speakers. If you want to use PA speakers for your home, spend a little more money & buy something that not only sounds good, but will last you for the rest of your life. Plus cheap low end PA speakers like MTX, Gemini, Gemsound, GMI & Behringer aren't any where near as loud as real DJ speakers.

These three speaker recommendations are suitable for home use. Not all DJ speakers are suitable for home use. Some are designed for large avenues & have too long of a throw, which would sound terrible in the limited space of a living-room, bedroom, basement, or garage.

JBL's cheapest PA speaker, the JRX line.

You definitely want to buy a QSC amplifier, it's the best PA amp company on the market. (Years ago Crown was the best.)

The biggest bang for your buck is the B-52 MATRIX-1000 V2 $850
http://www.guitarcenter.com/shop/product/buy_b52_matrix1000v2?full_sku=103233151
It has an amplifier built in the subwoofer that powers the sub & the two full range speakers. It's extremely loud compared to any home stereo & the bass kicks REALLY hard. It's extremely popular with professional mobile DJs. The only thing is since it's a PA system it uses XLR connections. So you need to either use a DJ mixer, or use a preamp that has XLR outputs.

At the moment I've 240W Amp and 4 in numbers 109dB 50W of Horn speaker. It canot reach the distance.

Answer
Azmi - As the other answerer's said, you will need a lot more power and a bigger speaker. Here is the type of speaker you need:

Here is a great book on sound systems for outdoors:

You will need at least $3000 US to buy a speaker and amp that will reach that far. A better way may be to just install a remote speaker or speakers and distribute them over the distance. That way, one speaker would not need to reach the whole distance.

How to hook up outdoor speakers to my surround sound system?

DC

I recently added outdoor speakers to my surround sound system. I have a Samsung system, but it doesn't appear to have a two-channel system. Any suggestions on how to switch between my indoor and outdoor speakers? I only want my outdoor speakers to work when I am listening to the radio or cd. I don't wany my neighbors listening to the movies or tv stations that I am watching.

Answer
You may have to try a speaker selection box to switch between your front speakers and your outdoors. The box is inexpensive and splits the one speaker output between your indoor and outdoor speakers with a button control. Try an electronics stores or a big AV retailer... Hope this helps...

Q. I have 2 x 2 speakers and i can`t make them work at the same time. With the audio driver (windows 7) I choose the Quadraphonic setting and when I click test all the 4 speakers are working well but in winamp or any game only two speakers are working.... What should I do ?

Answer
Go buy yourself a HOME THEATRE SYSTEM if you really like a surround sound and connect it to your computer. If not, well, you must always needed to changes your choice to suit the program that you are using, because different program or system may had different formation for a surround sound. Or, you can just add a four speakers amplifier with a two line jacks of left and right to your computer, well, that is the easiest way without any headache for to make a connection and it will work perfectly without the needs for to changes your computer speakers selection of formation in everytime that you had changes a program, and i'm sure by that, it will makes your four speakers to sounds umm... so good and dances like crazy hmm... but, ...oops there goes your neighbours, lol...

What's the best concert/music festival you've even been to, and why?

Also, anyone who has been signed/ made famous by Disney or Nickelodeon does not count, because they are cheap test tube babies made only as a genetic experiment to entertain young girls who have no idea what real music is.

Answer
The ORIGINAL California Jam.

1974, Corner of Ontario Motor Speedway

250,000 people. Though stats always say 200 . . . I was there, it was more. There were 200 K tickets sold . . . does not count the thousands that snuck in.

6 AM to 2 AM the next day

At the time, the loudest sound system ever built for an outdoor concert . . . on stage, 32 boxes with two 24" speakers in each, giving 16 on each side of the stage, about 100 feet back from the stage, 16 of the same, giving full quadraphonic sound which was totally unbelievable when ELP hit the stage. I was right in the middle, 50 back from the stage.

* Rare Earth
* Earth, Wind and Fire
* Eagles
* Seals & Crofts
* Black Oak Arkansas
* Black Sabbath
* Deep Purple
* Emerson, Lake and Palmer

No concert before or after has ever even come close in terms of overall awesomeness (and I've been to a few before and after.)

If you have to ask why, I feel sorry for you. :-)

best 2.1 speaker system for gaming image

palman18

I want to buy some new computer speakers since my old cheap speakers broke and I'm sick of using a gaming headset for music and movies. I am looking to spend around $150-200 on a good speaker system. I am a "semi-audiophile" and I appreciate good sound. I would prefer a system with a good balance of highs, mids, and lows and would rather have a good 2.1 system than a cheap surround sound system. I would prefer a system with a subwoofer, but if there are any that have good bass without one, I am open to it. I don't have a sound card on my computer, but I am open to buying one if it makes a considerable difference. Any help is appreciated.

Answer
Here are a few speaker systems that fall within your price range.

pmac366

I am trying to hook a Logitech Z-2300 2.1 speaker system to my 26" Vizio with no audio ouputs. I am in a dorm and i have cable through the wall and i want the audio to come through the speakers but i have no idea how to do it.

Answer
the only thing i can think of is a VCR w/ audio outputs, you should be able to pick one up a goodwill or ?, for no more than $4-5 bucks. I'm interested to see if there is another way though.

What is a good portable speaker system for mobile phones?

Jim

I have the samsung GS3 and my gf has an iphone, and i am looking for a "bose-like" speaker system that can play both through wireless or bluetooth means.

any suggestions are greatly appreciated but i would like to keep the price down to a reasonable amount. <2-hundo.

i know bose can be pretty expensive for what they offer.

Answer
"bose-like" does that mean you want something that is overpriced junk?

All kidding aside. If you are after the best sound quality get a good set of speakers (preferably with a built in Amp). Then connect it to a wireless or bluetooth streaming module.

For the speakers I'd recommend AudioEngine A2 or A5s.

For streaming I'd get an Airport Extreme for your GFs iPhone. If you want bluetooth get one of these
