I need some speakers with a lot of watts and bass that will shake the ground a little in one room?

Q. How many watts do I need for a speaker set to have enough bass to shake one room a little. I want some speakers that has a lot of bass and will shake the ground a good amount. I want to fell the bass but as we'll I want the audio and bass to be clear. The type of speakers I'm looking for is a 5.1 surround speakers with one or more sups to it. I was thinking about getting the Logitech speaker system Z906. But I was not sure if this would have enough bass for me. And I was wondering about the beatbox from Dr. Dre. Not the mini portable beatbox but the big one that he has that cost 399.00 $ it's on sale for 250.00 $ at his official site. But I was wondering if his beat box was any good. Thanks for everyone who writes an answer of this question!

Answer
Contrary to popular belief, watts doesn't tell you much about how much acoustic output an audio system has. To produce bass, you have to move a lot of air which means you need large woofers with a lot of cone surface area. You're not going to get earth shaking bass with anything from Logitech or similar. For this you need a real system, not a toy like Logitech.

Find yourself a receiver with preamp outputs so you can use external amplifiers for the main speakers. To keep the budget low (although still far higher than Logitech) you could go with something like this NAD... http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=NAT748 Then add something like this Emotiva amplifier for the left/right/center... http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/amplifiers/products/xpa-3 Then add some budget left/right main speakers like these... http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=MRBBX6 and a center... http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=MRBBXCE and surrounds... http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=MRBBXFX and a subwoofer... http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-15h.html

The above example is entry level, it's a system that would be pretty good for the money. If you really want something good, it's going to be a lot more. There are things between this and the Logitech, but don't buy any system that is an all in one package, instead buy individual components. If you are good with tools maybe you can consider building your own... subwoofers especially if you get a kit is really easy... http://www.parts-express.com/cat/subwoofer-system-kits/287

How loud should I set my rear surrounded speakers?

I have a Logitech Z906 speaker system. Whenever I set my rear speakers either they're too low or too loud that I can't hear the front dialogue speakers. How can I set it to that 'just right' volume?

Answer
You can get a sound DB meter from radio shack or other electronics stores and use that to set up your speakers using the meter in a fixed location you set up all speakers to put out thye same level, you need some kind of program or disk that will generate a pink noise or white noise sound into each speaker in turn so they can be adjusted equally....

Can you please recommend some quality computer speakers to me?

My monitor has speakers attached to it but they do not exactly emit quality sound. I'm having a hard time deciding which speakers to purchase and which brand I should trust. I saw the Logitech X-240 at Best Buy but it got OK reviews from various websites I visited. What would you pick? I'm trying to stay at least below $100.00
Thanks for any info you can give me.

Answer
So, you are looking for a computer speaker system.

If you really want to listen to quality music, I wouldn't go with the Logitech X-240. It is a very weak and low-end speaker system. I wouldn't buy a speaker system directly from a store since the prices are usually 20-30% higher as they have to meet their high costs.

Speakers are something we don't buy that often. Good you are doing some research, reading reviews, and asking for opinions in order to make a right purchase. The quality of sound is very important especially if you like listening music.

I recently got this Logitech speaker system for about $100.

I found the deal at http://www.dealjuggler.com/Logitech-Z-Cinema-Advanced-USB-Surround-Sound-System---Only-$79.99.html
I believe the sale is through Compusa.

I don't know why they are selling it so cheap. It might be a website error. When I compared the price to other stores, it is sold for over $220. The list price on it is $299.99. Compusa does charge about $30 for shipping, which brings the final cost to $110.

The speaker system is awesome. The clarity of sound is unbelievable. I got it before the price changes.

The total power of Logitech X-240 is only 50 Watts, the total power of the system I recommend has 180 watts. It comes with a remote control.

Read some reviews on some websites. Buy.com has some good reviews: http://www.buy.com/prod/logitech-z-cinema-advanced-surround-sound-system-logitech-z-cin-ma/q/loc/111/207324170.html
They are selling it for $236.26 however.

Hope the above was helpful,

Enjoy...

How do i build a subwoofer box for my jeep?

Rick

i know the speakers i want, Polk MOMO's 2 x 10". I go to polks site and they give all kinds of spec for the speaker. one being Vas = 1.083 cu. ft. i think this is the volume for the internal of the box. but is this after subtracting teh volume the speaker itself takes up? if so what value is that? would a inside dimension of 10"x14"x13" each side work good for a sealed enclosure. making outside dims 11.5"X15.5"x28.25" using 3/4" MDF. then i would likely liquid nail and screw the box together, using the liquid nails like a caulk on all seams.
then would i want polly fill for this size box? what does poly fill do?
any insight to any area will be appreciated.

Answer
Vas (equivalent air compliance) is the volume of air that offers the same degree of restoring force on the cone as that of the cone's suspension.

The Vas may be use to calculate the volume (Vb) of the enclosure.

Vb=VAS(Qts/Qcb)^2+1

A subwoofer and it's box have there own Q (quality) factor (Qcb=Q of closed box, Qts=Q of speaker)and together they form what is known as the system Q. A system Q of 0.7 gives the smoothest roll off in the low frequency response of the system. Above 0.7 causes a hump in the bass response and below this causes the bass to fall off at a higher frequency.

A program called WinISD will help you in the design. http://www.linearteam.org/download/winisdpro/winisdalpha.exe

The ORIGINAL California Jam.

1974, Corner of Ontario Motor Speedway

250,000 people. Though stats always say 200 . . . I was there, it was more. There were 200 K tickets sold . . . does not count the thousands that snuck in.

6 AM to 2 AM the next day

At the time, the loudest sound system ever built for an outdoor concert . . . on stage, 32 boxes with two 24" speakers in each, giving 16 on each side of the stage, about 100 feet back from the stage, 16 of the same, giving full quadraphonic sound which was totally unbelievable when ELP hit the stage. I was right in the middle, 50 back from the stage.

* Earth, Wind and Fire
* Eagles
* Seals & Crofts
* Black Oak Arkansas
* Black Sabbath

No concert before or after has ever even come close in terms of overall awesomeness (and I've been to a few before and after.)

i have 4 altec lansing speakers and a sub woofer. at first the front two would only work. now none of them work. i tried up dating the drivers for the sound and nothing. is there anything else that could be causing this issue?

Answer
Check your speaker configuration (Sound control panel, Playback tab)

Select Speakers and then click the properties button to show which jacks are active. Close the properties window and click Configure button to make sure you have the correct speaker configuration set (4 speaker should be quadraphonic?)

This assumes a Windows 7 system - which seems like a safe bet on a new Dell.

I need a very inespensive speaker system. The ideal system would be wireless.
Basically what I want to do is have these speakers play music either from my laptop or cd player, and wirelessly be placed in my kitchen, living room and basement. I think 6 speakers would be ideal.

I would like to spend around $100 because these will be used only 1-2 times. Every thing I have found is really expensive, or doesn't suit my needs.

Thank you!

Answer
You can't get anything wireless for that price, get the Craigslist special.

How can I get my jWIN JS-P701 2.4GHz Wireless Home Theather Speaker System to play from all of the speakers?

How can I get my jWIN JS-P701 2.4GHz Wireless Home Theather Speaker System to play from all of the speakers? It only came with one adapter for the red/white audio cords.

Answer
That is such a goofy speaker set up and a first for me.

OK here is what is going on. This is a powered speaker set with no Dolby decoder. It will accept for surround only 3 sets of RCA's from a DVD player. I will include a link to a DVD player that has theses so you know what to look for. Make sure to look at the back panel image.

This speaker set is really just a modified PC set of speakers.( note the three mini to RCAs adapters only available in the box mind you).

If you don't want to get a new DVD player you can get a home theater receiver with what ever digital audio connection you have, as long as the receiver has pre outs to hook up to the speaker set. Will include a link to the one that has this. But that is counter intuitive to buying a powered speaker set.

Your only other option is to hook to up to a PC with the correct 5.1 sound card.

If it is a new purchase I suggest take it back and get a 5.1 system that will work with your existing equipment.

PS also look up white van scam I think you may have been had.

speaker system for a computer image

Nyein Z

I bought an electric guitar and guitar effect.
I already have an old guitar amp which is not good now.
I am thinking to join the output of guitar effect to normal speaker system for live show or to computer for recording instead of guitar amp.
I am just worried if it will harm my speaker system or computer.

Answer
Nyein Z,

It won't harm either the speaker system or the computer as long as the output is not from a guitar amp. The speaker out from an amp can blow up lots of stuff. Don't do that.

Plugging into a 'speaker system' like a stereo from the effects box should be fine, and same into the computer. Turn everything DOWN before you start. It shouldn't hurt anything.

Then the only challenge is making it sound good. Try stuff and I bet you'll find a good sound.

Good Luck,
John

I will be dj'ing my friend's wedding with my laptop and mp3 songs. I have done some church dances before, but after spending $200 on speakers that I was told would cover the area (small gymnasium), we ended up having to place the p.a. system microphone near one of the speakers to hear the music over the crowd.

I can't invest a thousand bucks into speakers, but I would like to get some decent ones that will work with a computer. Help!

Answer
There's not much choice for you. To do it right, you'll need a PA system to cover sound in a hall. You'll need PA speakers, amplifier and mixer or even a combo unit if your on a very tight budget.. You can find packages available at a discount at most major music shops.

Here's some examples....

The bare minimum.. for small rooms...
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Nady-RPA-6-Portable-PA-System-630400-i1153412.gc

Much better, will fill a medium sized room & is expandable and not too expensive...

You need a projector, a projector screen and then something to play the movie - a dvd player or a laptop. Then you will also need some kind of speaker system.

Speakers for college dorm room a good idea?

I like to listen to quality music, and usually the best way to do that is through good speakers with a sub woofer. My laptop speakers are ok, but they're not as good as getting a separate speaker system. However, I know that when I am in my dorm room, I will not be able to play music very loud due to roommate, neighbors, etc. So I am wondering if it would be worth it/ a good idea to get speakers. I found nice ones for $40 that are pretty compact as well.

Answer
Not only your roommate, but your neighbors are going to be very irritated with you if you use them. I agree with the other poster; if you want some harmony with your neighbors and roommates, then get some headphones. They will definitely appreciate it. The walls in dorms seem to be paper thin, and, when you're studying or sleeping, noise like that is very annoying. Once you get a house or apartment, that would be a totally different story (depending on the apartment, I guess), but I think it will really be worth it to be kind to people in your dorm. Plus, the RA can write you up if it's too loud.

I made lifelong friends in my dorm, and I hope you do, too! Good luck in college this fall!

Answer
Yeah, til a neighbor comes and yanks them off the walls. You are not living with your parents, where you can get away with blasting them out, you will be in a dorm, shared by many other folks who may not appreciate your noise when they are studying. Better to invest in a good headset, than get someone angry at you to start your dorm life off. Learn about respecting others needs.

Logitech Z-2300's run for about 130$ and are probably one of the THE best systems out there.

Highly recommended anywhere you go. If you've got the extra cash and want something amazing, get those.

However, for cheaper, you can go for things like the Logitech Z-4 40 watt, and the Creative Inspire T3100's (I own a pair of the creatives, they're great for about 30-50 bucks)

It all depends on what your preference is.

Look on sites like

http://www.newegg.com/

http://www.amazon.com/

http://reviews.cnet.com/

All these have reviews and you can read up on some speakers.

Pay attention to Subwoofer power, Frequency Response (range), and the Total Power.

Good luck =)

I need ans

I have a Sony wireless Bravia speaker system with 5 disk DVD player.

I'm having trouble connecting my Blu Ray player to it.

It's a DAV-HDX 589WF Bravia.

I even tried connecting HDMI to my TV and optical cable to the DVD.

I either have picture or sound not both.

Any idea how to fix this?

Answer
"I even tried connecting HDMI to my TV and optical cable to the DVD."

That is exactly the way you want to connect it, because your receiver doesn't have any video inputs, only audio inputs.

The trick is that you have to set the TV's input to where the Blu-ray player is plugged in (HDMI 2?), so that you get the video. Then you set the receiver input source to play the optical audio from the Blu-ray player (it might be called auxiliary or external, optical 1).

You may also need to set the Blu-ray player to output audio from the optical port. Perhaps your player disables optical audio output when an HDMI cable is plugged into it, or else the port is disabled by default and needs to be enabled (set optical audio output to on).

Connecting and External Powered Speaker to TV with Optical Output Cable?

Mark

I have a brand new Samsung 32" HDTV and it has an optical audio output that I would like to connect to a external speaker system. It is a tower speaker, self amplified sold at Brookstone (Big Blue Media Tower) and it has a optical input. I know it will work as that is how Brookstone advertises it for a TV, kind of like a sound bar. My question is that Samsung says I have to control the speaker volume with the speaker remote and others online say if I set my TV menu to external speaker, the external speaker volume can be controlled via the TV remote, please clarify if you know the answer before I buy this system, thank you for your help.

Answer
To control the speaker volume you have to use the speaker remote.

im planning on outfitting my new car with a new stereo/sound system. I want the budget to be under $600 but alot of that can go towards the subs and amp and i want it to thump clean

Answer
OK SO LOONEY IS RETARDED. wish there was a "worst answer" vote

I have been in car stereos for a while and my first stereo was budgeted at $600 and cost me $1400. My second stereo was $10,000+ Try buying a few pieces at a time and you will be much happier that you waited an extra few months. What I would do is get a $300 deck and $300 dollar speakers Trust me when I say that you need to spend at least $300 on each to be happy. Decks will skip while driving and speakers will crackle when turned up. Then ask for a JL W1 12" sub in a box for x-mas. By then you should have some more saved up to buy a $40 wire kit and a $200-$300 amp. Now there is so much to learn like 60w rms x4 amp could run your 4 speakers or 225 watts RMS x 2 in bridged mode (4-ohm stable in bridged mode). So what you need to do is call the number and tell them what you want. but dont sacrifice your stereo budget to have it right now.
BUT WAIT IT GETS BETTER check out the link and everything is on sale.

What does a home theatre surround sound system involve?

Stephen

I am looking into adding surround sound to my television. I understand computers, TV's, blurays, etc. but audio equipment is foreign to me. I have some simple questions:

What does it take to get a system set up? Wires in the walls? What if house wiring is out of date?

Also, what are some good brands of equipment? Preferably for under $600. So Klipsch is not an option.

Answer
Well, a good surround sound system will cost considerably more than $600. I myself have $8K in it.
You'll need a receiver that decodes Hi-def sources from Blu-ray
5 speakers (left, right, center, rear right, & rear left)
1 capable sub woofer for the low frequencies
a TV with 1080p resolution
a Blu-ray player
wiring for all components this includes patch cables, speaker wire, & HDMI cables
a half decent stand for it all that won't flex or bow under the weight. So particle board is a no no.
Good brands depend on budget. I won't recommend any right now b/c I would be here a long time writing them. Klipsch is good, but they can get expensive real fast. But, I will suggest this set for you b/c imo it's a decent starter set & you can build on it. Cheers!

Can i connect a car subwoofer and amplifier to a PA speaker system?

Derek

I have a PA speaker system which is very loud and has great sound but has absolutely no bass. However, I also have a 15 Alpine Type R car subwoofer powered by a Kenwood 1800 Watt Mono car Amp. I would love to be able to connect this sub and amp to my PA system to create a great sound system for my house but I have no idea how to do it or if it is even possible... Can anybody help?

Answer
Yes, this can be done but things to consider is 1) How to power the car amp in your house? You could bring a cr battery in but that's only going to suppy the electrical current you need for a short time, then you will need to recharge it. My suggestion would be to invest in a "Regulated Power Suppy" to convert your house 120vac current to DC current like your car's electrical provides. Also to get the max power from you kenwood amp to you alpine car sub, you're going a power supply capable of delivering between 13.5 -14.4 volts DC which is the average range for most car electrical alternator voltage and what your car amp need to produce max power. ) Then ther's the matter of feeding the signal from your PA to you car amp. The safest way for this would be to use a "Line Level" signal say from the rec , or Record out jacks usually Red & White (RCA) type to the "Line In" Inputs of your car amp. After that it's just a matter of playing your music through your PA and adjusting the level on you kenwood to match your listening preference. Just remember when you increase the volume of the PA you may need to increase the level on your car amp as well since you are feeding a line level signal from the PA to the car amp. the PA volume control will not have and effect on the amp volume. In short what you want to do can indeed be done but there are easier ways to add the bass you want to you PA. Hope this helped you out.You may email me if you like at rudedog5876@gmail.com for some other options you want to consider.

Answer
No, you do not want to do that. The sub has a dedicated output from a stereo receiver/amp and if you try to split a signal from another cable it won't work. You will blow the sub if you try to do what you are suggesting. That Logitech system is designed to work only with their speaker system and they have a special cable that will transmit the correct signal to their sub,

I have fully upgraded my speaker system in my car. head unit, back speakers and front speakers. everything sounds fantastic, but the bass is a little weak. I can get heavy bass out of it, but that makes the treble sound murky. I was thinking of getting two 8" for the double bass from the drums. Any opinions?
An example of the music I listen to is A Day to Remember. They have alot of bass in their songs

A single 8" or even 10" subwoofer in a sealed enclosure will do you just fine for your ride. The bass will be clean and quick responding, deending on what kinda sub your gonna be running along with what kind of amp.

Your TV should have both a digital and an analog audio output. The analog audio should be in the form of an RCA (red and white) connector. A simple 3.5mm stereo-mini plug to RCA adapter should do the trick.

If your TV does not have an RCA audio out connection, then you have a slight problem and you would need more specialized equipment to do the digital to analog conversion for the analog stereo-mini plug on your stereo system.

Where should I go to purchase and install a good car speaker system?

Brian

I have a Celia with it's stock speaker system. I am looking for better speakers as well as a good subwoofer. What store's should I look into visiting to help me with this process?

Thanks.

Answer
you need to go to sonicelectronix.com this site is the best. They gurantee you that they have the lowest price. Im actually ordering 2 Alpine SWR-1242D Type R's (12 inch) and i've looked around and they are the lowest price. This is a website retailer so they ship the stuff to you. I'm not sure where you live so not sure where to go to get them installed but i live in michigan and im going to get them installed at car tunes, they're local. I've heard best buy is a good place and bad place to get installation for car audio so idk u might have to do some research on that. Hope i helped good luck.

I'm looking to make a portable speaker system and am looking to make it pretty loud. I can't really find a good battery pack for this. I have one and it can power a computer speaker system, but am looking for something better. I don't even know what to look for on google, I've tried rechargeable batter pack, etc. So I'm looking for a thing which will power a decent sized speaker system. They should make this and it shouldn't be too hard to find, but it seems to be.

Thanks.

Answer
rechargeable battery pack are notoriously expensive, especially for lithium batteries or other decent batteries. Nicads go bad too soon in most cases.
It probably would be easiest and cheapest to just buy one of those portable boom boxes that you see out tin the park that have a built in battery pack. But prepared to pay a fortune to replace the battery pack when it goes bad. And it will , just a matter of time. Look at laptops. Those batteries cost $40-$150 and they only last a year or two.

what is the difference between a portable pa system for a speaker and a portable audio system for musicians?

Q. We are a group that meets at various locations monthly and need to buy a new speaker system. We want one that won't weigh too much. Someone told us that there is a difference and we should avoid buying a system from a music store. We have also been told that a Yamaha is our best choice. I'm a bit leary since Yamaha, in my mind, is a music based product line.

Answer
With all due respect to Percival, i believe he has made a typo, the frequency range of the human voice is generally considered to be in the range from 300 Hz (not 3000 Hz) to around 3500, maybe higher if a little more clarity is desired.

i have a DVD player without an amplifier. IF i use a 5.1 speaker system with it, what will i miss. someone told me that i can't vary the bass, treble etc with this system. please guide me. also if u could tell me some tips for choosing the speaker system.

Answer
Most 5.1 speaker systems are made for computers and they use a surround sound card in the computer to divide the sound if you hook one of those speaker systems up to your DVD player all you will get is stereo at best...you need some kind of processor that will divide the signal into the 5.1 surround the easiest and lest expensive way is to get a Home Theater in a box better sound will come from a receiver and home theater speakers but you cannot use computer speakers with that you will need to get home theater speakers...because computer speakers are powered and home theater speakers are not...

What in-wall speakers would work with my amp for 7.1 surround sound set up?

BarryCycle

My amp is the Onkyo TX-SR506 (75w per) I see a lot of affordable ebay speakers..but a lot of them say "100WT Minimum RMS". Since my amp is 75 per..does that mean it wont run these speakers very well? I have VERY little money to pour into this system...guide me ye audiophiles!

Answer
Oh, ye of little resources! Ye have petitioned me, I will now help you, "grasshopper". The page below is on a great site for electronics, and has safe and secure purchasing. Absolutely "top of the line store", with good policies.

On each speaker you can click to get the specs. Doesn't take much to drive these puppies, and on most their maximum power handling should suffice. Click at the bottom of the page to see all of them.

Sure hope I helped you, Mac.

My old 2.1 speaker system on my computer died. But I think it just the amp that died not the speakers. I bought a new set, and they use the same RCA connectors.

If I use a Y splitter, will it hurt the sound quality much?

Answer
No. It is not going to degrade the sound quality coming out of your computer. Hope this will help you out.

Answer
If you solder the cables together, or run one lead, to a double adaptor, then run cables to both, that should work just fine, however, remember it will only be duplicated, not doubled.

I have 2 4 x 6 speakers in the front one on each door panel, and 2 6 x 9 speakers in the back on the rear deck. I plan on buying the speakers and installing them myself because best buy and circuit city charge too much for installation plus I wanna learn. I need to know step by step how would I go about installing my new speaker system in my 1991 Chevy beretta???

Answer
get some panel removing tools, or be very careful with a screwdriver, u need to remove the panels to access the speakers, most likely take out the back seat to access the rear decks, also need the wiring adapters for the new speakers to clip into the old connections, if u have any more q's, hit up crutchfield.com they have the absolute best support for car audio i know

I am getting a 2008 Dodge Caliber. Should I get it in Stone White or Steel Blue Metallic? Which looks better?

Rennat

Plus, I am getting the SXT, and I am trying to stay under $22,000. Also, is it worth the money to buy the 9 Boston Speaker System?

Answer
Steel Blue Metallic looks better, I think. Plus, it's probably alot easier to keep clean. (I was considering getting a Caliber awhile ago, and I loved the Steel Blue Metallic color)

As for the 9 Boston Speaker System, I would think that the standard sound system would put out plenty of sound, unless you really like to crank up the volume like extreeemely loud. Plus the Boston System is like $495, if I remember right.
