I've looked at several options: Focal, Bose, Energy, Polk. So far, I like the Focal Bird and Little bird speakers. I've got 14 ga. speaker wire in the walls of fairly large room with an HK A/V receiver. Any recommendations?

Answer
I would drop Bose from your list though (overpriced and mediocre at best).

Based on your suggestion of Focal speakers you appear to want some miniature speakers. That said, neither the bird nor little bird are surround speakers so I'm a little confused re your question specifying 5.1. You could cobble together a surround system but you would need an A/V receiver or surround amp to power them. See the 1st link for a review of the Focals. The other 2 links are to recommended surround systems ... some of which may meet your needs.

Personally I prefer speakers with a bit more size, and that opens up many possibilities. If you want small surround speakers Energy Take Classic is a reasonable choice, or consider Orb. If you want something bigger consider Klipsch, Distinctive Audio, Tannoy, B&W, Totem, ...

I would like to buy some speakers, what is the best brand or model to buy?

Jack Smith

I want to buy a surround sound system that has a aux input. No price limit.

Answer
I would look at the Onkyo or Denon Recievers almost all have extra imputs..speakers goods buys (in the states any way) exist in the Energy Line and Aperion..other lines to look at include Paridgim speakers B& W...Sonus Faber...
In UK look at the Warferdale; Mordaunt Short and Tannoy brands of speakers.

How is the sound system in the 07' G35?

AHHH

I'm planning on buying the 07' G35 40K miles this March, and was wondering how are speakers and sound system in the car? How many watts?

Also, are these cars reliable like Toyota's are?

Answer
My '07 had the premum radio which sounds good and really thumps. I didnt opt for the nav package which would have given the addition of storage for your mp3's. the nav package also has a more thorough user interface, for things as simple as seeing your tires air pressure...and the ability to reset a low tire light if you are so unlucky enough to have yours go on with just the premium radio...the dealer needs to use a computer to turn off the light.

my '07 g35 had multiple warranty repairs since it was the first year of the body style. hopefully all have been remedied as they could get expensive. under warranty I have had new window seals replaced as they were breaking down, a new steering wheel as the plastic around the steering wheel buttons was wearing prematurely, the cluster pod cover was replaced as the edges were lifting up leaving a bigger space from the buttons (makes more sense when you see it), i also had a wind noise that needed a different window seal to be replaced.

With everything changed I have no problems since. You might want to look into a '08 or '09 since you are buying used. these will likely have the 7 speed transmission for better MPG and 20 more horse power.

I have two speakers from my stereo music system which has broken down. I wish to use the speakers?

KP

I wish to use these speaker with my laptop. They are 2 stereo speakers 12 watt rms each and 2 drivers per speaker. The speakers have base reflex system. The music system cannot be repaired. I cannot spend more than 2000 Indian Rupess (around 50 dollars). Any suggestions please?

Answer
Those speakers need an amplifier - you cannot connect them directly to the computer. You would be better off just buying some computer speakers.

How do I set up a wireless speaker system in my apartment?

How do I set up a wireless speaker system in my apartment?
So I've got a desktop PC with wireless internet. I want to get speakers in my lounge/diner and in my bedroom that will play the music from my PC e.g. itunes/spotify.
Is it possible? Is it complicated?

Answer
You can buy wireless speakers which have a transmitter which plugs into e pc audio socket and receivers in the speakers.

Or you could buy a video sender, and ignore the picture part of it, plug the audio into the pc and plug some speakers Into the receiver end.

Or you could use Bluetooth, depending how far away the receiver needs to be (usually 10m or 30ft maximum). You can buy bluetooth speakers or an adapter (Belkin do one) that you can plug existing speakers into, If your PC doesn't have Bluetooth you can buy a USB Bluetooth adapter very cheaply.

On the other hand, all these are a bit expensive and diddly. It ought be easier to buy an iPod or other mp3 player and plug it into speakers in each room whe you need them.

I'm not sure that you'll be able to play to several sets of speakers at once whatever you do. Certainly not using Bluetooth.

What is the best portable speaker system for ipods and ipads under $100?

Derek

Im looking to take advantage of the cyber monday deals today, and am looking for a portable speaker system that has very good base and would allow me to plug my ipod or ipad in without having to connect the speakers to a computer. What is the very best speaker system under $100 (cyber monday deals) with a lot of bass and good sound quality? Note: I am not looking for headphones

Answer
Jawbone Jambox wireless bluetooth speaker can be had for $119 on Amazon.com
I would think for the money Jawbone would be hard to beat. As you know you pay for bass, whatever you get will not raise eyebrows. A far better option would be to purchase a pair of Dayton Audio B652 bookshelf speakers for $43.83 ass to it LP-2020A Lepai Tripath Class-T Hi Fi Audio Mini Amp with power supply for $15.69. I assure you this would be the far better sounding set up under $100 anyone can imagine with money to spare. You may have to get a few cables for everything to come together but you would still be within your $100 budget. It will put a smile on your face every time you hear it.

Enjoy

but I have no idea how to set it up all i am looking at is connectors but don't know what I need to connect them too. all I have is speakers do I need an additional control unit?

Answer
Yes you need a receiver for controlling that speaker system. I'm not familiar with it, but Samsung does make good video products, but their audio is sub-standard. This Denon receiver is a good buy for entry level home theater folks: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_033AVR391/Denon-AVR-391.html?tp=179 Good luck!

I recent got a 5.1 surround sound speaker system, and the main tower that controls everything is kinda busted to put it simply. What do I need to replace that head unit? Do I need a Home Theater Receiver to manage the different audio sources?

I want to be able to connect my computer, have a radio reciver , CD player, tv and other connections such as that.

The wires are standard speaker cables, with no adapter on the end, merely the stripped wire.

Answer
Yes, you need a A/V receiver.

The speaker need to have enough signal range to go from the basement of my bi-level house to my pool in the back yard.

Answer
Wireless speakers are somewhat of a newer concept but have already become very popular since they eliminate the tedious wiring projects that homeowners used to take on when setting up a home audio system. Speakerworks.net carries the latest line of wireless speakers and we took a look at what they offer. The ACOUSTIC RESEARCH AW-871- Wireless Stereo Speakers ($139) transmit audio signals through floors, walls, and ceilings up to 300'. The ADVENT ADV-W801- 900Mhz 20 Watt 2-Way Indoor/Outdoor Wireless Speaker ($95) has an operating distance of 150' and is splash proof (great for outdoors). The new ACOUSTIC RESEARCH AW-920 - 2.4 GHz Digital Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Speaker ($129) is water resistant and have an auto sleep mode which powers down the speakers when no signal is found. The SONY SRS-RF90RK- RF Wireless Speaker System ($139) used reflector technology to power our great audio. Other top sellers on Amazon.com include the RCA WSP150 900 MHz Wireless Speakers ($119) and Sharper Images ZipConnect 900MHz Wireless Outdoor Speakers (SR288) ($149.95).

Where can I find an "idiots guide" to outdoor speaker installation?

Katherine

I don't even know where to start. I need to know what I need to do a full installation of an outdoor speaker stereo system. Questions I have range from: What kind of receiver do I need? How do the outdoor speakers hook up to a receiver that's inside? Do I need an outdoor volume controller? If so, how do I hook that up as well?

I really need "start from scratch" instruction guide. Please help.

Answer
Not sure where to find an Idiots Guide but can tell you what I did with outdoor speakers.
First, buy speakers that are suited for outdoor use. I mounted them under the overhang of the roof around the patio.
Lot's of choices on speakers, some are designed to look like large stones that you can place in a garden, etc.
I ran speaker wire to the inside where the audio equipment is located.
Have a Yamaha receiver that is hooked to the external speakers as well as the inside speakers, TV, VCR, etc.
The receiver has a speaker switch. You can select the speakers you want to use. It is like an A/B switch.
You can also buy wireless speakers. They will be more expensive and I am not sure how well they work.
You might go to Radio Shack and see what they carry in speakers. Have them draw out the hookups for you. I am not touting Radio Shack, any number of good stores handle audio equipment.
I would not want to invest a tremendous amount of money in exterior speakers. To many things can happen to them and you will not be able to tell the difference in sound quality outdoors, anyway.
Good luck

Answer
You could do it, but I seriously doubt that you would be impressed with the results. Instead, you could try a shallow woofer such as a Kicker C12. Alpine and Pioneer, as well as a few other brands sell these, and they will fit, if you have the right box. Also, the home theater sub would probably have a different ohm rating than your car audio equipment, which could have harmful results for the sub. Try a search on Ebay titled " shallow subs" and there should be about 79 results ( I just did it)79 items found for: shallow subs in Consumer Electronics

Randomly about two weeks ago my speakers stopped emitting noise? Battery problem or fuse?

Christian

About 2 weeks ago I turned on my truck (2001 Toyota Tundra) and my stereo was on and was acting normal but no sound was coming out. A few days later when I turned on my truck it did work but after an hour it stopped. Also 2 years ago I installed a new stereo/speaker system in my truck. Just curious what the problem may be and what a potential solution could be. Thanks and much love.

Answer
take your head unit out and see if the wires are all connected good... ie.. blue to blue red to red ect... if there all good then you should have a fuse either on your head unit or on one of the wires most likelt the blue or yellow and make sure its not blown.... it wouldnt be a fuse on your cars fuse box b/c if i t was the head unit wouldnt turn on hope it helps

Do I need to change a setting from digital to analog or buy a converter? or what?

Answer
the minijacks are either not proper connected, the cord is broken or the jacks have no clean contacts. i've noticed the same sometimes on my laptop speakers, but after deconnect and reconnect the jacks the buzzing noise disappeared.

It doesn't need to be able to play DVDs at all, just hook up to one
Good surround sound quality
A remote
Nowhere over $200

Is there any speaker system or home theater system for me?
If so, what is it or where could I go to find it myself?
Thanks.

Answer
It will be impossible to find a "quality" home theater setup for less than 200 dollars. That being said, you can get a sub-par setup for less than 200, and i would say that a bad system is better than no system.

:)

I got mine for $760 dollars on amazon. It's a 7.1 channel, and it supports the new high definition audio formats.

Strange problem with speaker system with my home theater?

RockiesFan

Hi. I have a strange problem with my Bose speaker system in my home theater. When I am watching a DVD, there are two ways I can hear the sound, either regular or digital. The digital sound is a lot better than the regular. But when I select the digital sound, the movies play fine, but at random parts, the sound turns off for a few seconds and then comes back. It is very strange. And I have noticed that when it turns off and comes back, the visual and audio are not in synch. This problem never happens when I select the regular sound.

By the way, when I say "select the sound on the Bose system" I really mean the wires. The regular sound wires work for T.V., V.C.R., and D.V.D., but the digital sound wires work for only D.V.D.

But what's going on? This is such a strange problem. And I know that my wires aren't loose or anything so that is not the problem.

Thanks.

Answer
you Bose system is headed down the toilet make sure to get something better next time.

Bose is overpriced for what you get.

can you replace a driver in a home speaker?

speaker system philips
on Junglee.com: Philips AS140/37 Fidelio Docking System for Android
speaker system philips image
Q. how do speaker systems work? if the speaker is 8 ohms, is each component 8 ohms?

Answer
Yes, you can certainly replace the drivers in a home speaker. It's best to replace them with the same
one made by the manufacturer. For example, if you were replacing a Yamaha tweeter, you would contact Yamaha's website, and ask then how much a replacement tweeter would cost for your particular model of speaker. They would then ask you what the model number of the speaker system was, and tell you how much a replacement driver would cost. Pretty simple. Driver screws are usually the Philips-head variety, which can be easily unscrewed with a Philips screwdriver. Speaker drivers usually have a small metal clip on the end of the speaker, which removes easily. You will also find a metal tab on the bottom of the driver. Just make sure that you observe the proper polarity when replacing the clips. The tabs are usually marked for polarity, so the whole procedure should be fairly easy. Yes, if the speaker is 8 ohms, the individual components are 8 ohms.

Is it possible to connect my blu ray player directly to 5.1 channel speakers?

ML

I am confused. I have a Philips blu ray player with the following audio outputs: Analog audio Left/Right out, HDMI output, Component Video output, Digital coaxial out, Ethernet, Analog audio 5.1 channel out. Can anyone please tell me if I can connect it directly to a 5.1 channel speaker system ? (that is, with out a separate receiver).

Thank you.

Answer
You need to connect it to an amplifier or amplifier/receiver that handles 5.1 Dolby surround. The bluray player only has a pre-amplifier built in and that only supplies enough signal for the amplifier to use to produce the sound. The player itself cannot drive speakers. You don't need anything really fancy.

No. None of that stuff. I'm getting a 60" Pioneer Elite Kuro Plasma Television. That is not included in the price. The 6000 is solely to do with anything related to the sound. Speakers, audio cables, receivers....etc

Answer
if you really want to have THE BEST home theater, get rid of that 60" plasma TV, get yourself a 1080p Home Theater Projector here's the link:
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-VPLHW10-3-LCD-Theater-Projector/dp/B001GD6PM2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1258979314&sr=8-2
which is $2,719.95

and a Sony Home Theater (HDMI ready):

which is $324.87

so $2719.95 + $324.87= $3045 and you still have left from your $6,000 budget sped the rest of the money on improving your theater room for more Home Cinema Experience.

I would like to connect the speakers to my laptop but i dont know how. do i have to purchase anything like an amp? I would also like it to have a 3.5mm plug to put intop my laptop.

if anyone could help me. thanks

Answer
Okay, if I understand this right i can help. I go to college and i take my receiver and one technics speaker. I wanted to play my ipod and my computer sounds through my receiver and out my speaker. I thought about it for a while and I came up with this answer.

My receiver has rca (white, red, and yellow) ports that i can connect my tv, xbox, wii, playstation, etc to. I went to wal-mart and bought a cord that had the white and red plugs and at the other end had a headphone plug. I plugged it into the rca ports on the receiver and plug the other end into my ipod and laptop headphone jack. I hope this is what you were looking for.

You can get this cord at radioshack, wal-mart, and bestbuy as for a few.

Or you can go to amazon and buy it there.

What do I look for when shopping for a sound system/amplification for a rock band?

I'm shopping for a sound/amplification system for a small band of me and my friends and I have no idea where to start looking or what to look for. Can anyone either link me to a shopping guide explaining what I'm shopping for or summarize basic specs/things to look for in a system?
I know I basically need a sound board, amplifier(s), and speakers, but beyond that, I'm basically lost.

Answer
This decision totally depends on your target venue. If playing in clubs or restaurants, you need less gear. Those places often have gear, and are so small that your guitar amps and the drums fill the room. In that case all you need is basic system to push vocals, keyboards and any DJ rigs or effects you may use. In this case you can get by with a small, powered mixed and a pair of speakers, or a small mixer and a set of speakers with built in amps. (Powered speakers)

If you are wanting your own rig, like for the ability to set up and play in a park or something, or to provide a system for yourself as well as other bands, you need a more complete system. Speakers need to be supplemented with subwoofers if the system will be projecting the kick drum and bass guitar over distance. Speakers will need more power rating if they are gonna carry guitars as well as vocals.

Message me if you want to discuss details.

What is a great way to celebrate my sister and brother-in-laws news that they are having a baby?

Kate

My sister just came home for Christmas and she couldn't wait to tell us (her husband was on the speaker phone), Now he is coming in town Tuesday and we want to do something special for them. This is the first baby in our family! We thought about going out to a nice restaurant, but since my sister is having morning sickness that doesn't seem like a good idea.
I'd love to hear some suggestions! Thank you!

Answer
Dear Auntie,

I love parties and celebrations at home, everyone gets to relax and the fun can get a bit loud and no one yells at you.

Now get a copy of the song Having My Baby..... its a little bit back there but not ancient.
go to a party store and get a thing that hangs across the doorway announcing Having My Baby or We're Having A Baby , make a cake with a baby theme on top of the cake , remembering the sex may not be established as yet.
Oh just remembered Ha. Go to www. hp.com/go/activitycenter
and make sure it comes up Hewlett-Packard there are some sites that say hp and are something else totally . Now its all free and there are places that have Baby shower items and thank you cards with the imprint of a babys foot with the word baby in different pastel colors. I know because I got it all done for my daughter in law who had twin girls this July . they have games and answers who attended list, gift list and so on. oh so cute. and the most precious Baby Card where cards are and it says Baby, you'll just die,,,,,,,,,
Now you can all get together and buy the baby to be its first gift. Why not an intercom system that the parents will thank you over and over again. one goes in the babies room and the other two can go in your bedroom at night and down stairs or in the kitchen or livingroom whereever they are. We got them one and it helped one of the girls who had problems breathing and we believe it helped save her life.

If you are looking for a super punch its easy; for every can of Minute maid Punch add about 2/3 of a 2 liter of 7up or Sprite and make ice cubes of the punch and put frozen fruit of strawberries and melon balls and so on in the punch. if its kept real super cold it gets froffy and people have accused me of spiking the punch. What kind of speakers do you use with an iPod?

BG

If you want to use an iPod for party music in a large meeting room, what kind of speaker system would you use? I mean, lower budget.

Answer
The two best speaker systems are the Bose Sounddock and the iPod Hi-Fi. I have the Bose and I love it, although the Hi-Fi is better for parties, it has a better equilizer and bass... They are pricy though... The best for the cheaper speakers are the Altec Lansing speakers... They usually go for around $100-$120...

Answer
Before you commit to an iPhone or a Galaxy S2 think about the variety of music and Apps you want to have access to. Both phones are great for different reasons. I think the iPhone is a better option because it's part of a massive system of accessories like covers, Bluetooth devices, speaker systems and heaps of new inventions every day. The Galaxy S2 is great and does things the iPhone doesn't but the amount of music and Apps and accessoris available for it have a lot of catching up to do. You probably know some who has one or the other. So check them out and ask lots of questions. You will always save money if you buy the product just before the new model launches. Neither manufacturer like to comment on release dates more than about a week before. So you could be waiting weeks or months because the iPhone 5 is rumored to release October 2012.

Samsung Nexus vs Samsung Galaxy S2 vs iPhone 4?

MattPwnz

I'm buying a new phone and i'm deciding between these 3. Which one would you prefer and why? Don't say iPhone just because it's APPLE please :) i need actual reasons why 1 is better than another.

Thank you!
Thanks for the answer, but what if I really decide for android, should I then go for Nexus or Samsung S2?

Answer
It depends on what is the main use of your new phone, if you wanna an entertaining phone, go for an iPhone, its games can't be compared (:
However if you'd like a phone with a lot of applications, I'd suggest you the Galaxy S2 (or Nexus)
Just keep in mind the following notes and choose the one that suits you :

1- iPhone is as I said, awesome for gaming !
2- Android phones have more powerful applications than iPhone since it's an open source operating system
3 - iPhone's multitouch screen is better than Android's
4 - Android's Speaker might be better than the iPhone's (it depends on what phone you're comparing)

I'd suggest you to google "iPhone 4 vs Galaxy S2" and check the results, and keep in mind the first two notes i gave you !

How can I distort music by moving toward/away from the source?

speaker system definition
 on Magneplanar Definition. Crossword Dictionary.
speaker system definition image
Q. I am looking to make a sound/sculpture for my Fine Art degree. It will be a human sized black monolith. Inside the structure I want a speaker system playing a deep bass ambient track, I want this track to be affected in terms of reverb or pitch as viewers move toward or away from the monolith. I have no idea how this could be done... Any help would be great!

Answer
Let me clarify one thing. The term "distortion" in the audio world has a whole different meaning than any other definition of the word. Audio distortion is a bad thing. In order to distort a musical signal one must overdrive the signal into clipping. For example, when a person is speaking into a microphone and then gets too close to the speakers or has the main volume up too high to the point where the mic picks up the sound from the speakers. That ear-splitting high pitch squeal you here then is the signal being clipped into distortion. Not good at all for the speakers especially the high frequency driver/s. Also, low frequencies(roughly below 100Hz) are omnidirectional. So if you just had a speaker playing a deep ambience track, the pitch would not be affected by a viewer moving toward or away from the monolith. The bass would actually be more pronounced at the distance where any given low frequency wave completes one cycle. In other words, the lower the bass note, the further one has to be. But it wouldn't change the pitch. The bass would just sound louder at a certain distance.

Why am I getting analog" displayed on my receiver when I'm using optical cable?

I have a home theater with a Marantz SR5600 receiver, and a High Definition DVR cable box from Cablevision. I also have a 5.1 speaker system hooked up. I hooked up an optical cable from the "optical out" of the cable box to the "optical in" of the receiver, removed the cable for the regular coax connection, and put the receiver on "auto", then played a digital broadcast. However, the word "alalog" is always displayed. Does anyone know why this could be? Thank you.

Answer
One the set-top box make sure you send "bitstream" or Dolby Digital over s/pdif.

Make sure you haven't connected any RCA analog cables between the receiver and the set-top box.

Which is better? I have no idea which one is better then the others. I dont understand electronics. I am on the fence about these two they are the same price the Philips HSB2313A/F7 2.1 CH Home Theater Soundbar Speaker System with Subwoofer or the Philips CSS2123/F7 2.1 Soundbar with Subwoofer.

Answer
Phillips is not a very good name brand at all. those bargain price unit are not very good in quality or reliability. Look for name brand like Polk audio, Definitive Technology or any speaker manufacturer. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for. You should demo them prior to any purchase and let your own ears be the judge. Hope this will help you out.

Will cheap home theatre systems give me sound?

michael

I have a 32in. LCD tv whose sound no longer works. I can't find a place to get it fixed.
I was wondering if I bought a cheap all in one 2.1 channel home theater system could it then be used to watch over the air free television with sound.
Like could I somehow connected the TV antenna to the dvd played and use the home theater speakers to watch tv?

Answer
IF your tv has RCA audio output jacks on the rear then the cheapest way to get sound is to do this: Obtain a pair of powered speakers made for PC use. You can find these at thrift stores all day long if you don't want to buy new. Buy a stereo MALE RCA to stereo FEMALE 1/8" mini adaptor cable. These cost less than $10. Hook up the RCAs on the adaptor cable to the tv's audio outputs. Then hook up the powered speaker's male 1/8" stereo mini to the other end of the adaptor cable. Plug the speakers into an A/C outlet and turn the volume up about halfway. Go into your tv's audio menu and select the "variable" volume setting this way you can adjust the volume using your tv remote. Good luck.

i have creative x fi titanium sound card.but my present speakers have very low quality to cope with it. i want to buy a good 7.1 speaker system that would be best with my sound card.if someone can suggest me with speakers model that would be good for me to find.
thank you

Answer
It always depends on how much you want to spend. Also note that you can connect into an existing true 7.1 home theater or audio setup arranged for bluray, DVD, CD. With an external amp, you can make any speakers setup.

Some PC speakers are USB powered, and some have their own power. Also, you can decide on whether you want 2 channel, 3 channel, 5 channel, or 7 channel sound and where you would place speakers.
There are a lot of opinions and ratings available:

Logitech Z523 for under $90 is a high rated set.

Harman Kardon SOUNDSTICKS III at under $150 is also always high rated

There are many choices, and you need to start with your budget. Most people think 2.1 is good enough to attach to a computer, because the outer 2 for 5 channel are remote location typically, and a 7 channel is overkill when sitting at a PC, but has use in some headphones.
Using the Testfreaks site and then Amazon or Google searches, you can get excellent speakers cheap. That is why I state it is all about what you want to spend.

Cheaper alternative to Bose Companion 5 desktop speaker system?

Mark O.

I'd like to replace my basic 2.1 speaker set for something much better, but I'm not exactly sure what to look for. I like the companion 5 for the imitated sound of a 5.1 without the 3 other satellites, but the brand-name price is just absurd. Any ideas or experiences would be much appreciated.

Answer
If you want a very powerful system with lots of bass I would recommend this:
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Z-2300-THX-Certified-Speaker-Subwoofer/dp/B0002SQ2P2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1294454418&sr=8-1
If you want a system geared more towards the audiophile this is the best:
http://www.amazon.com/Harman-Kardon-Soundsticks-III/dp/B0042F3K9W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1294452799&sr=8-1

The Logitech is definitely the bassheads system. It's far more powerful, but the bass is boomy. For ex, if you're listening to a male voice there is a lot of added bass and it doesn't sound natural. The H/K has better sound quality. It's not as powerful and the sub won't rattle the walls, but it has better main speakers that are better for the treble and midrange and the subwoofer fits more naturally with out the big mid-bass hump.

Here's Cnet's list of their top computer speakers:

If you want virtual surround sound, consider downloading this. For $8 you can install this and make any 2.1 speakers have virtual surround. You even get a free trial first. It's considerably cheaper than buying speakers with the processing built in, plus since it is on your computer you can upgrade speakers without losing it, or take advantage of it with your headphones.

My friend kindly gave me a SAMSUNG PSWS100E/PâSFS100E 5.1 Surround Speaker System.
but I have no idea how to set it up all i am looking at is connectors but don't know what I need to connect them too. all I have is speakers do I need an additional control unit?

What are the differences between entry-level positions with a big four accounting firm vs. a smaller company?

lynch3br

I am a senior at James Madison University and with graduation right around the corner I am currently interviewing for my first position. I am majoring in computer information systems and between career fairs, company information sessions, and guest speakers I have learned a great deal about the opportunities in the field. However, the answer to one question has continued to elude me.

More specific than the question above: What are the major differences between an entry-level it advisory position with a big-four accounting firm vs. a similar position with a firm such as CGI or Accenture that label themselves as a consulting company?

I appreciate anything that anyone can tell me and I want to thank you in advance for any experiences that you share.

Answer
Big 4 experience is very valuable for ones career for several reasons, most importantly
1. They have a reputation for being tough. So anyone who can survive a few years with them, must be better than average.
2. Because of their international recognition, there are lots of opportunities for life after Big 4.
3. There are existing strong Big 4 alumni networks that will help you strengthen your professional connections.

Over the years, the definition of Big 4 has changed. But people still recognize these names being the top tier IT consulting firms: Accenture, Andersen, BearingPoint, CapGemini, Deloitte & Touche, Ernst & Young, KPMG and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Best wishes.
