i have a Logitech speaker system for my computer that uses only a headphone jack. I also have a Epson projector that has inputs for S-Video, RCA, computer, and HDMI. I would like to hook my DVD player, XBOX, and computer to the projector, but only have the Logitech system for sound. None of the above except my computer have a headphone jack. Is there some type of input box i can get that can handle all of that?

Answer
You need an audio switcher that will allow you to connect those devices then switch the audio between them.
This one also does video switching, but you'd only use the audio connections. The advantage this has over the less expensive ones is that it has optical connections which will give you better sound than the standard red/white RCA jacks for those devices that have optical audio outputs.
http://www.amazon.com/40324-3-Play-Component-Digital-Selector/dp/B000AM3U2I/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1252527075&sr=8-7
Search Amazon.com for "audio switcher" or google it to find more choices.
You'll need 1/8" to rca adapters to convert the 1/8" headphone jacks to standard RCA jacks. Those are readily available through radio shack or any electronics store, or online through amazon.com

How to set up multiple sound devices on a computer for audio output?

I want to be able to plug in a HDMI to my TV and stream a movie to my TV and play sound out of both my TV speakers and the speaker system for my computer. Any ideas of how to enable that?

Answer
Get a audio cable that have one side as a normal AV Jack and other side as a normal stereo jack.Find out if your tv have Audio out put. If it have a one plug in AV jack to it. and plug other side to your computer sound card line in. enable line in on computer volume control(Operating system). this will work i think.

Where can I find a PC headphone amplifier like this?

GeneParmes

I need gain or volume boost and treble and bass controls. Don't need pro audio quality. I transcribe recorded spoken voice files, and sometimes the sound quality is bad. I used to have a pair of small speakers with a subwoofer, and I plugged my headphones into one of the speakers that had volume and treble and bass controls, but the speaker system broke. I'd like to maybe get a headphone amp that does the same thing rather than get a whole new speaker system (unless new speakers would be cheaper). Thanks.
Thanks for the recommendations, Andy. I'm okay with my headphones. The original source of what I transcribe is a phone, and some of what I transcribe is dictated on a cell phone in a car or maybe on a speaker phone 10 feet away or on a just plain crappy phone that sounds like there's a blanket over the phone. The quickest and easiest thing for me to do in these cases is just turn up the volume a little and roll off the bass and turn up the treble. I need quick and easy (and inexpensive).

Answer
If transcribing audio, although you don't have to invest hundreds of dollars, you probably need more than the $10 toys.
http://www.beachcamera.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=FIIOE11
There is the cheaper and more expensive FiiO's and Beach is selling them at a decent price.
You also do need a decent set of headphones that are both comfortable and really clear on the mid-range sounds. I don't think treble and bass are key unless to turn them down.
You could add in a software audio equalizer.
I won't dig into them now, but browse through Nonags.com for freeware and see what you come up with.

As to headphones, you need to decide whether sound isolation is important. The open-back design sometimes does a lot better in the sound, but does leak out and in to neighboring people and environmental sounds.
Audio-Technica ATH-M50 Studio Monitor Headphones at about $160 - maximum isolation and ultimate comfort these rate amound the best at the under $200 in any review.
Sony MDR-V6 Monitor Series Headphones with CCAW Voice Coil at under $70 - probably too high on the bass, but these headphones make all sounds loud.
Creative Aurvana Live! at about $60 - build quality is not as good as others, and bass a bit weak, but the sound reproduction in the midrange seems to be right-on and price a value.
Grado Prestige Series SR80i at about $100 - Some find the pads uncomfortable and it leaks sound as an open-back, but the audio is full and crisp.

I think a lot of the sound quality will be in your headphone choice more than anything else, but laptops and even desktop pc's just don't have the best audio amplifying. In a desktop PC, you can invest in an over $60 sound card that would boost quality and you should look into reviews if that is where you are at. They often come with equalizer software.

What do I need to play music from my laptop directly to my stereo speakers (wirelessly)?

Chris1990n

I just want to play music from iTunes through my stereo speakers, from my laptop. Wirelessly as well!
Is that possible?
What do I need to do this?
Thanks for your help!

Answer
2 things. A device that transmits wirelessly from your computer (inbuilt or attached externally) and a receiver attached to your speakers (usually externally).

I am looking for the most affordable but good quality speaker system that has surround sound, can play my TV and DVD audio, and so I can play music from my computer through them. It sounds like a lot but there has to be something out there that meets my demands. Any suggestions??

Thanks in advance!!

Answer
It all depends on your budget. You can spend anywhere from a few hundred dollars for a decent home theater in a box to hundreds of thousands on something like a Wilson Audio system. I like M&K speakers and Denon receivers for a real world alternative. The key is to shop around. Visit some high end stores and get an idea for what you like. What sounds right to you is right for you.

Where can I get a good quality speaker system cheap?

I'm 16 and I have about $500 and I'm going to get a job. I want to get a speaker system (full boat new speakers, amplifier, sub-woofer). A system that scares the haters but not the hoes. And a loud one, too. One that people hear and they're like "OMG!!!!! JOSH IS HERE!!!!! I WANNA BLOW HIM!!!!!". One that can get me laid just by playing it in the school parkng lot.

Answer
there isn't a stereo system in the world that will get you laid.

Logitech Speaker System Z523?

best buy logitech speaker system z523 image

Ashley

I recently bought the Z523 speaker system. Does anyone know how I can get both speakers to work properly. The problem with the speakers is that sometimes only one of the speakers produce sound and the other one doesn't. I usually have to turn around the green cord while its plugged in my pc and listen until both speakers produce sound. I was wondering if someone has any ideas on how I can resolve this issue.

Answer
Sounds like your audio port may be the problem. Test the port with a pair of headphones, if it behaves the same way, the problem is with the port. If not, then the speaker plug may be at fault.

Which computer speakers should I buy?

Does anyone know which computer speakers I should buy. I am able to spend 300 euros or less.

Answer
Well if you want to go top of the line, Bose is one of the best brands out there. Creative Labs and Logitech are also great brands and make great products. Take a look at the following products:

Logitech S-220
Logitech Z523
Creative Inspire T3130

I really like sound systems with the subwoofer because it really highlights all of the sound effects of games and movies.

Im trying to build a reasoably cheap ( 200-400$) sound system, i want to know what manufacturers make the best parts for the system, for like the amp, subs, and speakers

Answer
There is no best, only preference...

http://spkrbox1.spaces.msn.com/ for real "sound" advice.

Your system won't mean squat without a well designed box to put your subs in. Some manufacturers have recommendations as to dimensions of various types of boxes. It is best to find someone who builds boxes if you go with something other than a sealed box.

You should always match up RMS (Root Mean Square) watts of Subs and amp per channel as well as impedance's(resistances). When a sub has rating of 600 Watts MAX it really has an RMS rating of about 200 Watts RMS. RMS is the nominal wattage your most likely going to get out of it. Remember, a 200 Watts RMS amplifier has more power output than a 200 Watt MAX.

If your amp is rated at 4Ω don't subject it to 2Ω, it will fry.

Here is the formula for subs in parallel:

Z = 1 / (1/sub1 + 1/sub2 + 1/sub3 + ....)

For series, just add them up (sub1 + sub2 + ...).

You can mix and match these equations to get the right impedance required by your amp.

Example 1: Amp is 2 channel and rated at 4Ω, 4 subs @ 4Ω each. If I connect two in parallel and the other two in parallel and connect the two pairs in series, I would have a total impedance(resistance) of 4Ω. So to the amp, it's just one sub.

Example 2: Amp is rated at 1Ω mono, 2 subs @ 4Ω each dual voice coil. If I connect two voice coils in parallel and the other two voice coils in series and connect the two subs in parallel, I would have a total impedance of 1.6Ω. Which would be perfect for a 1Ω stable mono amp.

You should use a capacitor as well.

Recommend for every 500 watts MAX you use a .5 Farad cap
Example: 1000 watts MAX - 1 Farad cap

You will also need what's called a "line level converter" if your stock head unit doesn't have RCA outputs or your amp doesn't have high-level inputs.

Try http://www.soundomain.com/shop you can find some really good deals, and this site is manufacturer certified. VERY IMPORTANT WHEN SHOPPING ON-LINE!!!

If you like I can send you some plans for reference. My plans are for a 4-th order band-pass bass box (A.K.A. bass-reflex) that holds two 12's.

Also included are java calculators you can use to figure parallel and series values given Ω values, tips on box building and types, calculating port diameter and length(if used), calculating box dimensions for types of boxes (sealed, wedge, cylindrical, etc.), materials needed and even how to make a jig for cutting perfect holes for your subs.

Just e-mail me sparky3489@yahoo.com

My system

Blaupunkt TSw1200 subs with a Sony XplÅd XM2200GTX.
My amp is 1200 watts (200 Watts RMS X 2), subs are 600 watts (200 Watts RMS) each, cap is 1.5 Farad

SPL is about 112 db each sub

Total cost(so far) = $410

i have creative x fi titanium sound card.but my present speakers have very low quality to cope with it. i want to buy a good 7.1 speaker system that would be best with my sound card.if someone can suggest me with speakers model that would be good for me to find.
thank you

Answer
It always depends on how much you want to spend. Also note that you can connect into an existing true 7.1 home theater or audio setup arranged for bluray, DVD, CD. With an external amp, you can make any speakers setup.

Some PC speakers are USB powered, and some have their own power. Also, you can decide on whether you want 2 channel, 3 channel, 5 channel, or 7 channel sound and where you would place speakers.
There are a lot of opinions and ratings available:

Logitech Z523 for under $90 is a high rated set.
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Speaker-System-Z523-Subwoofer/dp/B002FU5QMK/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1327605587&sr=1-1
Harman Kardon SOUNDSTICKS III at under $150 is also always high rated
http://www.amazon.com/Harman-Kardon-Soundsticks-III/dp/B0042F3K9W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1327605497&sr=8-1
There are many choices, and you need to start with your budget. Most people think 2.1 is good enough to attach to a computer, because the outer 2 for 5 channel are remote location typically, and a 7 channel is overkill when sitting at a PC, but has use in some headphones.
Using the Testfreaks site and then Amazon or Google searches, you can get excellent speakers cheap. That is why I state it is all about what you want to spend.

What watt speakers should be good for my apartment at college for a 2.1 system.?

Is $600 a realistic price for getting a sub, amp and 2 speakers?

Answer
Hmmm, well. I think Heco Victa 500 oder 700 would be okay as speakers. Maybe add a Heco Victa sub or some other good subwoofer. The question is: Do you want to go for a 2.1 system just now? You might consider some 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 av-reciever ans upgrade to a surround system at a later time ... won't get all of that with 600 US$ though.

The problem is if you're specifically asking for a 2.1 system I at least suppose that listening to music would be the main focus for the system. If you want to do that I'm pretty sure you can rule out everything that's even close to being a "satellite-system" (let alone one with plastic cases), because those just don't deliver what you need to truly enjoy music. You'd want some decent standing speakers.

Well, the more I think about it the more I'd say: A good stereo speakers + sub + amp for 600 US$ = no, most likely not if you want decent quality. If I were in your place I'd save up for something like a good 6.1 av reciever/amp (denon? yamaha? would stuy some reviews, discussion boards) + 2 standing speakers (like for example the heco victa mentioned before) and save the sub for later and the surround speakers for sometime after that. ;)

How do i get my Speakers to Work?

CK

I recently brought the Logitech X-530 PC Multimedia Home Theatre Speaker System - 70 Watt (Total) (5.1) and i really wanna connect them to my Samsung TV! the main speaker has cables Green, Orange and Black with an adapter which you can turn it into white and red audio. But when i plug it into the back of my tv it wont work!! i run it through the headphone port at the moment (green cable) but only the front two speakers work. can anyone help ?

Answer
The surround capabilities for these speakers do not support TVs. They do support game consoles and DVD players with a game console adapter, but in order to get surround sound from your TV, you need a separate receiver.

The reason is because your TV will only deliver 2 channels of sound, whereas your DVD/Xbox/PS3 will deliver the 5.1 necessary to hear sound throughout all the speakers. If you have a cable box, try hooking the speakers up to that and you will be able to get the 5.1 sound on channels broadcasting it.

However, if you want surround sound through your TV, you have to get a receiver that will produce the 6 channel audio the TV won't.

I'm searching for a new computer. I have a 10 year old computer now with a lot of problems, so that is why I am getting a new one. I just want to know if you can plug in any USB speaker systems with sub woofers to a computer that has built in speakers. I know a lot of the newer computers now days have built in speakers. Just was wondering.

Answer
yes, if you have 3 coloured sockets at the back of your tower, blue, green and pink, these can be used for standard 5.1 sound managment with a 5.1 sound system connected. if you wish you can just use 2.1 plugged into the green socket. for 5.1 you need the correct speaker setup and settings.

Answer
Jawbone Jambox wireless bluetooth speaker can be had for $119 on Amazon.com
I would think for the money Jawbone would be hard to beat. As you know you pay for bass, whatever you get will not raise eyebrows. A far better option would be to purchase a pair of Dayton Audio B652 bookshelf speakers for $43.83 ass to it LP-2020A Lepai Tripath Class-T Hi Fi Audio Mini Amp with power supply for $15.69. I assure you this would be the far better sounding set up under $100 anyone can imagine with money to spare. You may have to get a few cables for everything to come together but you would still be within your $100 budget. It will put a smile on your face every time you hear it.

Enjoy

Eric T

i want a speaker system that will pump out some major bass but i dont want the music to be drowned out by it. I still want to be able to understand whats being said

Answer
There is a reason why subs are called subs and mids called mids and highs called highs.

If you want to build a system correctly and you want good bass WITHOUT distrotion then you have to have a bass speaker only do bass. I know everyone is going to say no but is been done this MANY times in the past of putting an AMP on the factory radio and speakers and adding a sub with sub AMP is the most inexpensive way to go and it sounds GOOD. Wont win any contest for SPL of clarity but for the money and just starting out this is a super easy way to go. NOW there are some stipulations to this: 1. Factory speakers do not need to be any more than 6mos to a year old. 2. speakers can not be amplified say like a BOSE system. Most of those have 1 OHM speakers in them anyway. 3. Radio sometimes radio can not have pre-amp out put for speakers. The voltage is to low and an aftermarket amp will not work well with it.

I have a NEW 2008 Toy Taco that I plan on putting a 4 channel amp in to run the whole system. 2 channel, left and right, to run front and rear speakers putting left speakers and right speakers together to make 2 ohm so the amp will run harper on 2 channels. On the other side it will be only the sub bridged at 4 ohms. Both sides will have crossovers so only mids and highs go to factory speakers and the other side will be set to low/sub so only bass goes to sub woofer. I dont think they make a dash kit for my veh so i will be using the factory radio also. Right now if you turn the volume up you can hear the bass coming thru the mids distorting the sound even with bass almost all the way down.

now it also depends on what type of veh you have to know what type of sub you need. Bandpass or basstube does not always work on all vehs.

Well that was kind of long but figured I would explain in full my thought process. Hope it helps. Good luck.

Oh and I have been doing alarms, audio and video in vehs for about 15 years.

I am using a Rolls pre-amp and a Pro-ject Debut Carbon. I am trying to temporarily use a TV to play the turntable while I get speakers. I have the turntable connected to the pre-amp via the RCA cables it came with. The pre-amp is connected to the TV with RCA cables I bought at wal-mart. I have tried ever audio input on the back of the TV and it isn't working.

Answer
A TV doesn't usually have audio inputs, only inputs for a composite signal (mixed video and audio) so unfortunately you can't use the TV's audio amplifier. It wouldn't be hard for them to add this facility but there isn't a great demand for it, most people already have a hi-fi system which provides better quality sound than a TV does.

Does Walmart have any decent home speaker systems?

Looking to get a speaker system for my TV.... Should I even bother with Walmart or will I regret it?

What's involved in installing?

Answer
No, seriously, they don't. I've looked at it and it's all bottom basement stuff. What's involved with setting it up? Well for starters you can't just plug speakers into your TV. A receiver or amplifier of some kind is needed. My best recommendation is to pick out a receiver and a set of speakers. As you considered Walmart I take it that you don't want to spend a lot. But, even the cheapest receiver and stand alone speakers from an electronics retailer will outperform anything from Walmart.

How can I hook up more than one device for quick switching on a single speaker system?

I would like to connect my TV and computer to the same speaker system, and switch between them at will. Can I do this somewhat cheaply? I don't need 5.1 sound, an inexpensive 2.1 system would be fine, I just want to make sure I can switch between 2 inputs.

Answer
A simple RCA A/V switch will work fine - you may need some adapters depending on what inputs and speakers you are using:

Just use the red/white audio jacks - leave the yellow video unconnected.

I have a model dcm109/37 phillips music system with speakers I'd like to hook up to my tv. The speaker wires aren't RCA though, they're something I can't seem to hook up to just anything. Does anyone know how I can convert these wires into RCA possibly? or maybe some other alternative so that I can use them with my tv?

Answer
No. You can't just hook up speakers to your TV. People keep asking this question. Speakers need an amplifier and there is no amplifier output on TVs. The internal amplifiers are hard wired to the internal speakers. You need to use the amplifier in the Phillips unit. Leave the speakers connected. You need to connect the audio output of the TV to an input on the Phillips. It may be labeled AUX IN or something else. That will be your RCA patch cord connection. If there are no input jacks you simply can't do it. Done. You may also have to enable the TV to drive the output of the audio out jack on it. You will have to scroll through the menu to the audio settings and it will be labeled something like "enable external speakers" It may also allow you to turn off the internal speakers.

How do you enable built in speakers running Vista Ultimate?

M G

I'm running Vista Ultimate and I disabled my built in speakers so I could use my blue tooth stereo headphones but now I can't find the speakers to enable them again. Please step by step instructions please. When I go to sounds the speakers aren't there and I don't see them in Device Manager either. HELP!!
I did s system restore also which fixed the problem but when I want to use my bluetooth again I don't want to go thru the same thing.

Answer
Go to settings/control panel/system/device manager
and delete the sound device and shut down. Reboot
and you should get the message "new device found" see
if windows can install it from the windows files.
If it is not there you will have to download the driver and install it manually.

Mr. X

I'm just looking for an inexpensive home theater speakers from my 32'' Toshiba 1080p tv. I don't want to spend big bucks on one but something decent would be good. Know of any inexpensive speaker systems ?

I wouldn't be buying one If the sound on my tv was good, but when it comes to watching movies it's somewhat low and not very immersive.

Thanks

Answer
soundbars aren't true surround, don't get one of those.

This is sufficient for most people:
http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-HT-S5300-7-1-Channel-Theater-Receiver/dp/B003BEDQRG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1293832313&sr=8-3

I have an Onkyo home theater in the box that I purchased 5-6 years ago. It's in a 10x12 room and it is LOUD and very decent.

I need a remote control by the makers of Mustek for a home theater speaker system. Wheere can I get one?

sjrolick@v

My remote control broke for a home theater speaker system and the brand name is Mustek. The model number of my system is HTB-5130S.

Answer

best speaker system under 3000 image

curious

I ordered a Samsung HT-Z310 home theater system from Adorama.com and it works great, but it's just not wireless. It was described as being "wireless ready." I'm obviously not very technilogically savvy so I don't know how to make this system wireless. Any help is appreciated :)

Answer
You need 1 of these for each 2- speakers you want wireless ( not subwoofer)

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SWA-3000-Wireless-Module/dp/B000FK859I

It tells you in your owners manual under conectivity where it explains about hooking up a wireless module(pg.55-60)?

Good surround sound system for my parents?

Freddie

My parents told me that they want a new surround sound system for our living room. Any suggestions on what system I should get? I don't want to go over 5k. And also, I would like to have a surprise installation. How long do you think it may take a team of pro's to install it?

Answer
How long depends on what's there. You say a, "new" surround system implying they already have an old one so if existing wires can be used then that saves most of the time.

For budget systems I've been really impressed by Emotiva...

Main speakers... $629/pr http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/speakers/products/xrt62
Center speaker... $249 http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/speakers/products/xrc62
Surround speakers $319/pr http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/speakers/products/xrm61

For the subwoofer I would go HSU... $879 http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-15h.html

NAD Receiver $699... http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=NAT748

With the above you're still under $3000, Bluray players are cheap, just about any <$200 will work fine. If they want more power they can add an external amplifier for the left/right/center since the NAD has preamp outputs... http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/amplifiers/products/xpa3

i have a dav-hdx265 sony home entertainment system and the Duraband tv with only has a video and audio slot and one other slot that says earphones. would i be able to get the left, right surround speaker, left, right, and center speakers if i get stereo audio cables and hook one end to the system and the other to the the tv? the tv only has one audio slot which kind of confuses me considering the end of a audio cable has more then one color cable.

ps: i have a cable that is connected to the earphones slot on the TV to the Sony home entertainment system slot called audio in/a cal mic and i only the left and right speakers work. i would like to know if stereo audio cables for a couple of bucks would solve my speaker issue and listen to all my speakers,

Answer
You can't get real surround sound from stereo. You might have a setting on your receiver/player that will give you double stereo or pro logic, but if the signal isn't there, then it can't be played.

How do home entertainment systems with surround sound work?

what???

All I can find is that the system will work with dvd's. If I buy one and hook it up will the surround sound work with my cable tv?? Is there something special I have to do to make it work with my cable tv. What should I look for in a home entertainment system when purchasing one.

Answer
You will get full functionality from the surround with DVD's because they are MADE to use all the channels (particularly the rear ones). The rear usually providee the background sounds-not the conversations, but the sound of the person walking across the carpet. Cable TV is NOT mastered for surround, so you will not get all your system involved. But if you have good speakers, it will still sound good.

I just got a 5.1 surround sound computer/multimedia speakers system, made by limitless creations X806. It has 3 input audio jacks, center/sub, rear and front. And the size of these does not fit into just the regular dvd player. Is there a receiver or certain type of adapter cord that I can buy to use all of my surround sound at once.

Answer
You bought computer speakers that need to be hooked up to a computer, not a DVD player. It has no surround sound decoding built in. That is why the three audio plugs. The three jacks are to be hooked up to a computer surround sound audio card that has the three audio jacks.

So for your DVD player, you would need a surround sound decoder in order for those speakers to work. You hook up the digital audio output of the dvd player to the decoder and the speakers hook up to the audio jacks. Make sure you hook them up correctly. Front L/R, Center/Subwoofer, Rear L/R.

Which system would you purchase between the three listed?
