Record player + speakers?

denis

Ok, so I want to buy a record player to play LP, basically because I love the format, but also because I want to try the difference in the sound quality between LPs and CDs, which a conventional record player with built-in speakers will not do.
So I'm looking to buy a set of speakers to connect to the record player, however, there are so many different settings and different brands, I'm confused.
I'm no audio professional in any way, just a guy who praises the good sounding quality of music, and all I want is to be able to listen to LPs, as well as CDs, and MP3 players all into the same system. Now, does anyone know if there actually EXISTS a good system that will play all those different formats and sound GOOD? Or do I really have to buy separate items, such as record player + cd player receiver + speakers? (Also, please note I'm not RICH, so I'm not looking into the finest quality in the world, or the best of the best, just something GOOD, that sounds good, and allows me to listen to different formats)

I need opinions!

I was researching and came across these three models but also don't know if they're compatible/good...
Record player: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005T3XH/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Speakers: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-SS-B1000-8-Inch-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B000OG88KY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1330829254&sr=8-3
And a receiver (for CD playing): http://www.amazon.com/TEAC-CD-P1260-Player-LCD-Playback/dp/B000GU8B28/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330829441&sr=8-1

I appreciate any opinion/answer.
Thank you very much

Answer
your looking at turntables, speakers and a cd player have you thought about a AV RECEIVER to connect everything up to and power them, the turntable does NOT have built in amp and neither does the cd player or speakers so how will you connect everything up with out an amp/receiver

with a $75 turntable you will notice that a cd player will have better sound,, its when you spend over $1000 on a turntable thats when you notice that the turntable will have better sound than cd player

vinyl/record players?

I have vinyl, yet no player. I want a really good player with speakers already attached. I have seen great turntables, but they dont have speakers.

a little help please??

Answer
What you're looking for is a record player... or some kind of all-in-one stereo system. A turntable is just a source that needs to be hooked up to an amp and speakers.

That Vestax thing doesn't look like it would sound so great. Very small amp and speaker... not even stereo... Really, the only record players I see being sold these days are those Crosley units... or what looks to be the same thing under several other brand names. There are very mixed reviews on these with many complaints about the speed being a little fast and things starting to break very quickly.

I would probably look at buying a vintage all-in-one system on eBay or Craigslist or something. They usually come with a main unit having a turntable and radio tuner... maybe a tape deck... and the speakers are separate. Sometimes the seller doesn't have the speakers. You could buy some Sony bookshelf speakers or something similar for not too much money... Some even have an input jack so you could add a CD player if you wanted. I'm usually not a big fan of vintage gear unless you're willing to spend some money on having it gone over and restored. Nothing lasts forever without maintenance. But, in this case, I think one of these older units would probably last longer and sound better than one of the Crosley units without any work being done and for about the same money or even less.

Here are some examples of the kind of stuff I'd be looking at...

This thing (URL below) is KILLER, but it really should be gone over. All the capacitors should probably be replaced and the tubes replaced with new old stock. These things are not usually performing to their full potential until recapped... and parts not performing to spec could cause damage to other parts that would be impossible to replace. Guy says it works though...

IMO, it would be worth it to have someone recapp and retube this. You'd have a real conversation piece that might even be valuable someday if kept in working condition. These old tube record players usually sound pretty cool and pack a bit of a wallop too.
