Kody L

I'm looking into buying a 79 Camero with a rebuilt 350 engine with a 780 carb. Its got a new light blue paintjob and all new leather interior. And all new speakers but needs a new exhaust system. Its got 200 miles on it. I'm just interested on how much I should pay for it.

Answer
Without pics, I'd say $3500-4000 is a decent deal.

What do you think of this stuff for my soon to be Civic coupe 2000 model?

Ken Doll

AXS seat cover (front & rear) in white.
Exhaust system
Audio speakers, sub & amp
Silver metal look a like floor mats.
Clear tail lights
Boxed air filter
Front headlight bulbs.

This is stuff im getting first up and later as time progresses i will get Rims and eye lids for it. Its black btw. Ohh and im 16 and still learning to drive.

Answer
Personally I wouldn't bother with most of that stuff, I think it will make the car look cluttered. I'd look into upgrading the audio if you want first, then maybe a K&N drop in or brighter headlights.

Q. I'm looking to bring a home music speaker system to college with me and I want it to be a good one. What specs should I look for and what should they look like?

Answer
"Home" and "School" are oxy-moronic when it comes to music gear. You dont have the space for the gear or the sound in a dorm room and unless you are jerk that wants to annoy everyone around you - you dont have the freedom to turn up the volume.

You are better off getting a nice pair of Seinnhauser or Shure headphones. Or order those noise-canceling ear-buds for your MP3 player. These fit in a dorm a lot nicer than full sized stereo gear.

Hook speakers up to TV with no audio outputs?

I am trying to hook a Logitech Z-2300 2.1 speaker system to my 26" Vizio with no audio ouputs. I am in a dorm and i have cable through the wall and i want the audio to come through the speakers but i have no idea how to do it.

I use a 360 for dvds and games so no vcr or anything. What do i need to get this setup to work?

Answer
the only thing i can think of is a VCR w/ audio outputs, you should be able to pick one up a goodwill or ?, for no more than $4-5 bucks. I'm interested to see if there is another way though.

I bought my husband a 42"plasma flat screen for Christmas. We are thinking about adding a wireless speaker system to enhance the sound. It is in an average size living room - so we don't want to be "blasted" by sound - just good sound for movies etc. We also don't want to spend more than $250. Any recommendations?

Answer
Nothing sounds better then a Bose. You are not likely to get "great" sound for $250. I could be wrong through. However Bose does offer a small home theater system that will give you great sound with out be "blasted" by it. It is $499 however Bose offers a interest free payment plan. They take out a monthly charge to your credit card automatically with out charging you interest for 12 mos making it more affordable! I provided a link below if you want to check it out. I have also included a link to reviews of the best home theaters it also talks about less expensive models this may also help you out.

What is the best wireless speaker system, has multiple speakers for bass?

Q. Hello im looking to hook my laptop up to a system of wireless speakers to mount around my room, but im looking for the best sound quality or bass quality? Im looking for anything 250$ and under.

Answer
You're not going to find what you are looking for. For wireless speakers to work, you must have a wireless receiver. You can't simply transmit your laptop's sound directly to a wireless speakers. You will have to connect your laptop to a wireless surround sound receiver and then the audio will be transmitted from the receiver to the speakers.

Having said that, there are quite a few reasons for staying away from wireless speakers. For the most part, these systems are a gimick.

First is that "wireless" speakers aren't truly wireless. While the audio signal my be transmitted wirelessly, the speaker still need power in order to function. This means that each speaker will need an AC outlet. This in itself can be a big inconvenience. Not only can it be unsightly, but you might not have power outlets where you need your speakers.

Another reason is signal interference. There are many devices out there that can cross-talk with your wireless speakers. Some of these devices are cell phones, wireless alarm systems, and other wireless speaker systems. If a neighbor next to your condo also has a wireless system, you may end up pulling your hair out. And I can almost guarantee that you have a cell phone, right?

Dirty power is another issue that many people face after getting their new wireless surround sound system home. Dirty power is a rapidly fluctuating power feed and can be cause by almost anything that has a motor, such as refrigerators, washers and dryers, and more. If these components are on the same circuit as your surround sound then the amplifiers inside of each speaker will simply amplify that dirty power and you will get a dirty audio signal.

While it's almost impossible to completely get rid of dirty power, you can use power filters at each wall outlet to help tame the fluctuation. Unfortunately these power filters are about $50 each and look a bit like a short extension cord or surge protector.

In the end, what you may be looking at instead of a few thin speaker wires, which happen to be fairly easy to hide, is a bunch of speakers plugged into power filters which are then plugged into several power outlets around the room. And after all of this, your audio will more than likely suck.

And as I pointed out earlier. You would still need to connect your laptop to your receiver, so the laptop would no longer be wireless.

Speakers for college dorm room a good idea?

I like to listen to quality music, and usually the best way to do that is through good speakers with a sub woofer. My laptop speakers are ok, but they're not as good as getting a separate speaker system. However, I know that when I am in my dorm room, I will not be able to play music very loud due to roommate, neighbors, etc. So I am wondering if it would be worth it/ a good idea to get speakers. I found nice ones for $40 that are pretty compact as well.

Answer
Not only your roommate, but your neighbors are going to be very irritated with you if you use them. I agree with the other poster; if you want some harmony with your neighbors and roommates, then get some headphones. They will definitely appreciate it. The walls in dorms seem to be paper thin, and, when you're studying or sleeping, noise like that is very annoying. Once you get a house or apartment, that would be a totally different story (depending on the apartment, I guess), but I think it will really be worth it to be kind to people in your dorm. Plus, the RA can write you up if it's too loud.

I made lifelong friends in my dorm, and I hope you do, too! Good luck in college this fall!

Answer
Yeah, til a neighbor comes and yanks them off the walls. You are not living with your parents, where you can get away with blasting them out, you will be in a dorm, shared by many other folks who may not appreciate your noise when they are studying. Better to invest in a good headset, than get someone angry at you to start your dorm life off. Learn about respecting others needs.

I want to set up a speaker system, small cubes like the bose acountimas for my plasma Tv. i need to know what amplifier and what speakers i should go for. I am on a small budget.

Answer
Best idea is to go and audition a few - make sure you bring some music or a dvd movie that you know well.. this way you know what you are listening for.

Also, If you are on a tight budget... then forget about Bose - try systems from Polk, Klipsch, Onkyo or Harman Kardon -even Pioneer... they all have small, compact, lifestylish system that sounds as good as bose... for less.

Most big box stores like bestbuy will have prepackaged systems - and you will save some $$.
Also, you should compare to prices from Amazon. They have great deals too!

Strange problem with speaker system with my home theater?

RockiesFan

Hi. I have a strange problem with my Bose speaker system in my home theater. When I am watching a DVD, there are two ways I can hear the sound, either regular or digital. The digital sound is a lot better than the regular. But when I select the digital sound, the movies play fine, but at random parts, the sound turns off for a few seconds and then comes back. It is very strange. And I have noticed that when it turns off and comes back, the visual and audio are not in synch. This problem never happens when I select the regular sound.

By the way, when I say "select the sound on the Bose system" I really mean the wires. The regular sound wires work for T.V., V.C.R., and D.V.D., but the digital sound wires work for only D.V.D.

But what's going on? This is such a strange problem. And I know that my wires aren't loose or anything so that is not the problem.

Thanks.

How to set up speakers for my media player?

Bryan Patr

I have an asus oplay mini and i am thinking of getting either e 2.1 or 5.1 speaker. However I am not sure if I should connect it on my led tv or to the media player itself which has the red white yellow cables.

One more thing is the speaker i was looking are the one's used for desktops or laptops, I can't seem to find the one's that came with bluray or dvd players.

Answer
This is the thing. For most PC speakers, 2.1 speakers are just stereo sepeakers with a subwoofer, they use a crossover to get the bass frequencies from the stereo signal from the stereo signal fed to it. The 5.1 PC speakers do that for stereo input mode. To get actual 5.1 audio, they mostly have discrete 5.1 input , which most modern desktop PCs have. The oplay likely has a digital or optical out, that means you need a separate (not easy to find) Dolby decoder to use with PC 5.1 speakers, and won't get that great of a sound.

Home Theater -in-a-box systems (the ones with a DVD surround in one) often just decode 5.1 from the DVD - the only inputs are stereo, which at best can provide pro-logic surround. The speaers that come with them are made for them as part of a system.

Real surround for other devices is achieved with a surround receiver, which has a decoder, controls, and amplifiers for all the speakers other than the subwoofer, usually. With those, you buy the speakers separately, including an amplified subwoofer.

I've heard best buy is a good place and bad place to get installation for car audio so idk u might have to do some research on that. Hope i helped good luck.

Anyone know a price estimate for car audio installation: Installation only?

Just purchased a brand new stereo, speaker system, and installation kit for 99Ford Taurus Sedan. Just need someone to do the labor. Looking for a ballpark price estimate for the whole system.
Nothing special for speakers. Just 2 speakers in the back of the car. There are currently none. I bought everything at Circuit City, but they are no longer doing installation. They sold everything needed for someone else to do it. Hope that answers everyone's questions about details
Purchased:SonyRadio(FM/AM CD), JensenSpeakers(PowerPlus682 6X8"CoaxialSpeaker w/13mmTweeter), AutoStereo InstallationSystem(Trimmings&Trimplates, SpeakerGrilles, SpeakerAdapterPlates, ABS PlasticSheetTemplates, Special Brackets), & a Mounting Kit for the Radio.
Thanks everyone for your answers. Calling around to get price quotes but curious to know what a GOOD price SHOULD be.

How do i get my Speakers to Work?

speaker system x-530 image

CK

I recently brought the Logitech X-530 PC Multimedia Home Theatre Speaker System - 70 Watt (Total) (5.1) and i really wanna connect them to my Samsung TV! the main speaker has cables Green, Orange and Black with an adapter which you can turn it into white and red audio. But when i plug it into the back of my tv it wont work!! i run it through the headphone port at the moment (green cable) but only the front two speakers work. can anyone help ?

Answer
The surround capabilities for these speakers do not support TVs. They do support game consoles and DVD players with a game console adapter, but in order to get surround sound from your TV, you need a separate receiver.

The reason is because your TV will only deliver 2 channels of sound, whereas your DVD/Xbox/PS3 will deliver the 5.1 necessary to hear sound throughout all the speakers. If you have a cable box, try hooking the speakers up to that and you will be able to get the 5.1 sound on channels broadcasting it.

However, if you want surround sound through your TV, you have to get a receiver that will produce the 6 channel audio the TV won't.

What kind of audo cable should I use to make my 5.1 speakers the dominant audio for a sony bravia 32' monitor?

silvrfirel

I bought a Sony KLV32U100 32" Bravia HDTV Tunerless LCD Monitor. I have a Logitech X-530 5.1 Speaker System for computers. Would there be a special cable for me to plug into that monitor to use the 5.1 speakers as the dominant audio source? I also plan to use a digital cable box with this monitor and use the sound from the speakers. Can I do this?

Can someone please help me?

Answer
You will need a regular AV cable only using the Red and White parts of it. Plug it into your TV's audio output in the back and then into the surround sound system and then Go into your TV's Settings and you will be able to disable the TV's speakers from there. When ur cable box comes you just unplug it from behind your TV and plug it into you cable boxes output and the video will go to the TV. If you have a problem you can call me from my website below.

How can I distort music by moving toward/away from the source?

best speaker system in the world image
Q. I am looking to make a sound/sculpture for my Fine Art degree. It will be a human sized black monolith. Inside the structure I want a speaker system playing a deep bass ambient track, I want this track to be affected in terms of reverb or pitch as viewers move toward or away from the monolith. I have no idea how this could be done... Any help would be great!

Answer
Let me clarify one thing. The term "distortion" in the audio world has a whole different meaning than any other definition of the word. Audio distortion is a bad thing. In order to distort a musical signal one must overdrive the signal into clipping. For example, when a person is speaking into a microphone and then gets too close to the speakers or has the main volume up too high to the point where the mic picks up the sound from the speakers. That ear-splitting high pitch squeal you here then is the signal being clipped into distortion. Not good at all for the speakers especially the high frequency driver/s. Also, low frequencies(roughly below 100Hz) are omnidirectional. So if you just had a speaker playing a deep ambience track, the pitch would not be affected by a viewer moving toward or away from the monolith. The bass would actually be more pronounced at the distance where any given low frequency wave completes one cycle. In other words, the lower the bass note, the further one has to be. But it wouldn't change the pitch. The bass would just sound louder at a certain distance.

Is investing in a record player and a record collection worth it?

Grace

I'm a huge music person, and I have recently beome infatuated with the comeback of record players, especially since all my favorite bands are putting out their music on vinyl now. I have invested a lot in my digital music collection over the last few years and I have really nice, expensive speaker systems for my iPod and everything. But I REALLY want to start a record collection for some unfathomable reason.

I'm going to be a freshmen in college next year so I really have to get smart with my money and my concern is that I'll spend a ton of money on records and then decide to go back to digital.

The record player that my dad wants to buy me as a Christmas gift can convert records into MP3s so I was hoping I could have the best of both vinyl and digital music worlds.

Can you tell me if there is such a big difference between sound quality in records vs. iPod/ other digital music devices that I should spend this money?

I'm thinking of just having the record player and a couple vinyl albums that my dad wants to buy me for Christmas and then seeing if I like it enough to continue a collection, but I'm trying to decide if it's worth it now so I can get something else for Christmas.

I'm probably overthinking this but it's the whole need vs. want factor. I want to try this out because I'm really taken with it, yet I have litterally spent thousands of dollars on iPods and speakers and music from iTunes building up my music collection. And the songs from iTunes are way cheaper than the vinyl.

Answer
I have been pulled back into older technology by nostalgia and such.

But it has never been worth it.

Get a few records, and let it go at that.

Anyone know anything about speakers and subs?

buzz on me

i am trying to get a sweet set up for my room. but i have no idea what companies are good, or what i need. basically i want lots of bass and like my floor to vibrate. yeah.

Answer
What you're describing is volume, not quality. Get a pair of cheap MTX speakers if you just want to "vibrate" your floor. But if you're serious about sound, get something that will produce accurate, vibrant sound like Klipsch or Polk Audio. With speakers, you truly get what you pay for. A nice system is the Klipsch Quintet System, Klipsch 10" sub, and the Yamaha 463 receiver. The package is $1300, but Best Buy has a deal that takes $300 off the package price. For $1000, its a great system.

I love my music and listening to it on cheap 2.0 speakers has been fine, but I have a bit of cash now and I want to treat myself to a really great 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker system specifically for my PC and MP3 Player. I have a budget of £45 maybe being able to stretch to £55 for exceptional quality. What I want to know is, what specifications should I look for. I saw one with 1000W output and one with 2000W output. What exactly does this mean and what's a minimum Wattage Output level for exceptional quality.
I'm not naive, I realise that £55 won't get me cutting edge technology, but will it get me something that's really noticably better than 2.0?

I also want it to be able to go pretty loud :P

Answer
For PC, if you have 5.1 sound card, it's OK to buy those speaker, but for MP3, I don't know if they have 5.1 capability. My suggestion are, try it first, better listen at quiet room, since you can differentiate the sound quality between one and other speaker. Good store usually have a special listening room.

Power output are how much power that the speaker can handle, it means the higher value will give you higher sound pressure level. It comes with PMPO (Peak Musical Power Output) or RMS
(Root Mean Square).
PMPO denotes that how much power that amplifier can deliver to speaker on a very short time (peak), while RMS denotes power that can be delivered continuously.
Usually 1000 W are PMPO (unless you buy a high end ones).

Now, it depends on you, but remember to listen it first with your well known songs before you buy. Your ears are the best measurement equipments.

What's the best speaker system for a bedroom?

Mitty

I am looking to purchase a speaker system for my boyfriends bedroom. The one he has now was 2 speakers and a subwoofer and sounded great and was loud enough to fill the entire house. Sadly he blew the speakers out. I want something similar not like a 5 speaker surround sound deal and around a $200 budget. Primary use is music. Something he can keep on the desk and move around.

Answer
I heard a story from one of my family members that my uncle is notorious for blowing out speakers, but he never blew a JBL speaker.
- Some good receiver speaker brands are polk audio, energy, monoprice, klipsch, M&K, JBL.ect
- Some good receiver brands are onkyo, denon, pioneer, yamaha, sony.

Also I am not sure if your looking for computers speakers that plug into the colored outputs on the back of a computer.
- Some good computer speaker brands are logitech, creative inspire, cyber acoustics (ca), altec lansing.ect

- At crutchfield (never shoped at this site tho) the 5.1 energy take classic is on sale for $200!, it's originally $300-500.
- If not you can go to the speaker brand sites and look at individual speakers and then look at sites/stores that sell them.

I have a 2013 Toyota corolla and the sound system is shit lol. I have to turn it up nearly to the max level for it to be kinda loud. I got an amp and speaker installed and it makes it kinda better but it's only loud-ish when I play a cd, not my ipod (aux cord). Should the radio be replaced or the inside speakers?

Answer
I think what you need to do is go to your Ipods EQ and select a different option.
Upgrading to aftermarkets and amp will help your sound out but maxing your levels on everything
and turning it up max will only make your music sound like dirt.

We all have one of those friends who install any old speakers in their cars and they turn it all the way up and say " what do you think? nice right ?! " and you just nod and pretend like it's the baddest thing you've ever heard.... just nod and agree.... nod and agree.

Im getting 2.1 channel speakers for my computer, don't bother suggesting 5.1, don't ask why. I was wondering if they were a better choice than the X-240 as i don't need the ipod dock.
Is the logitech X-230 a good choice? I do a bit of gaming, and listen to music every now and then , is it a good choice?
just to fix up what i said before:
"i was wondering if the X-230 is better than the -240"

Answer
go with the x-240 even though you do not need the ipod dock the x-240 has digital out and the x-230 does not.

Does the size matter of the door speakers?

Basically I was just wondering if there is a difference in speakers like with 5.5 -6.5 inch component speakers. I have an 01 honda civic EX sedan and need to get a set of component speakers and amplifier for the speakers. Could you explain the difference and recommend what I should get?

Answer
Well depending on what size of speakers you are replacing usually determines what size you should get. Example: My 1998 Chevy Lumina has a stock speakers size of 5.25" so when i upgraded speakers, i got a 5.25" Rockford Fosgate component system.

If, however, you are just adding speakers and not replacing them. 6.5" speakers will give you a bigger bass, and a 5.25" or 5.5" speaker will give you more of your mid-range higher notes. So depending on how you like your music, will determine what speakers size you would want :D

At least that's how i understood it! Hope this helped, Good Luck!

How do i get the best sound quality from my car speakers?

travis

Have a honda civic coupe 02
car speakers dimensions 1.25, 2/tweeter

Really wanting to know how to get best sound quality from speakers. Should i put coaxial or component speakers or combination of both in car? Wanting to know wiring, amp, dynamat or any other materials placement, speaker placement (willing to customize car to allow better placement and sound quality), and basically any other details that could improve sound in car. Basically don't know anything about car audio besides what i have looked up so anything suggestions would help.
Edit: sorry should of phrased the question a little better. How do i get best quality music system in car? Looking to get new speakers and everything else mentioned in details just wondering what to get and the setup of everything

Answer
You're on an island in your car and car manufacturers create their electrical systems to match the needs. It's all about buying the right amps that will deliver the power from the source on this island to your speakers.

Narrow your search down to the amps that people complain the least about online: Alpine, JL, Kick, Rockford Fosgate, Memphis. Make sure that the RMS output is equal to or most desireably excedes the speaker RMS rating.

Make sure you make seperate runs of the maximum accepted power wire gauge for each of your amps. Ground your amps like it's more important that the power wire: extremely well. (bare metal no looseness at all in your connections) Get big power running to your big amps. The speaker wire you run on the other side of the car goes along with everything else recommended so far.

If your system's output is over 500watts (RMS or peak idk) the most important thing you can do has nothing to do with amp selection, or speaker placement - its upgrading the electrical path under the hood. This will increase the voltage that battery will be sending down your BIG power cables to your BIG amps out to your BIG speakers. This upgrade known as the 'Big 3 Upgrade' is well documented in how to forum discussions and youtube videos.

If you plan on doing all of this yourself assume that you'll be disconnecting the battery on your car a million gajillion times.

What is a good desktop computer speaker system?

I want to buy some new computer speakers since my old cheap speakers broke and I'm sick of using a gaming headset for music and movies. I am looking to spend around $150-200 on a good speaker system. I am a "semi-audiophile" and I appreciate good sound. I would prefer a system with a good balance of highs, mids, and lows and would rather have a good 2.1 system than a cheap surround sound system. I would prefer a system with a subwoofer, but if there are any that have good bass without one, I am open to it. I don't have a sound card on my computer, but I am open to buying one if it makes a considerable difference. Any help is appreciated.

Answer
Here are a few speaker systems that fall within your price range.

I want a karaoke machine for home use preferably small unit, with alot of songs built in at least 30,000+ and also with the ability to upgrade new songs, either by cd, dvd, or cdg, otherwise.

Also I don't have a home theatre system with speakers and etc, I just want something to plug into my HDTV. My tv is relatively new with alot of inputs.

I want something like the Songstation, but while researching the songstation player, it seems kinda iffy.

Thanks

Answer
The Songstation is a nice karaoke machine, which works great!
Consider buying it.

How do we hook up a professional karaoke system with mixer, amplifier, etc?

ladysongby

We recently received some used sound system equipment to use with our karaoke system. i.e. Mixing board, amplifier, wireless mic's, etc. Now that we have the full system we're not exactly sure how to hook it all up. Is there someone with a "general" sound system schematic that would help with this?

Answer
This question is impossible to answer accurately without knowing the make and model of the components.

Generally, the player and mics connect to auxiliary inputs on the mixer. The mixer connects to the input of the amp. The speakers connect to the amp's speaker connections.

Have 12 hours of music on laptop and want a more compact speaker system than the 2 speaker and sub-woofer system.
Can we hook it up to our stereo and run house speakers? We're having a outside party and would like to be able to use the music

Answer
There are many options for speakers as you probably already know. I personally like speakers from Creative labs.
www.creativelabs.com Also, check out cnet.com and search on speakers for evaluations and consumer reviews. As for connecting to your home stereo, yes, it is very possible. All you need is a cable that connects from the computer output to the stereo's input. You can buy them pretty cheap from computer store, electronic stores, and super stores.

What to look for in a speaker system?

joesphB

Im looking for a powerful speaker system to use with my computer for playing music. Im looking for as powerful of a system that could fit under a desk for a reasonable price. What specs should I be looking for in terms of watts etc.

Answer
Look for the reviews and the price. Trust me, that's all you need.

If you want to try to decide for yourself look for max wattage (although this doesn't always mean louder/clearer sound), speaker sizes, types of speakers included (tweeter, mid-range, woofer, subwoofer), whether the sub (if included) is ported or not, frequency response (although it can be misleading) and try finding out the materials used (wood is good and some plastics can be good, cheap plastic = resonance = bad sound).
Here's a few systems a can recommend: http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/shop_online/digital_music_systems/computer_speakers/companion_2/index.jsp - No sub but sound pretty good
http://store.cambridgesoundworks.com/Cambridge-SoundWorks-Amplified-Computer-Speaker/dp/B004LUL216 - Sound good, cheap, decent sub.
http://store.cambridgesoundworks.com/Cambridge-SoundWorks-MicroWorks-Computer-Speaker/dp/B00345FI14 - Sounds great, great sub, hefty price though (250)

Good luck, hope I helped.
