that is the link to the speakers. i dont want to spend a lot of money, and have no idea on how to connect the two.
Thanks so much in advance!

Answer
Bud - Despite what the other answer said, you CANNOT connect those directly to your mac. You still need some type of stereo amp or receiver. Those speakers need an amp.

Getting ready to purchase a complete home theater system and have been looking at Bose but wondering if there's a system that is just as good but cheaper. Looking for extremely high sound quality for movies AND music. Price range is $2500 total.

Answer
I also agree that Bose is overrated and overpriced. With their stuff, you are paying for the styling and the name, and not for engineering thats worth the price. Plus, they do a lot of costly PR.
If you are fine with more conventional audio equipment, then with the budget that you have mentioned, you have a lot of room to pick and choose. There are some great on line sellers who can offer a wide range of great equipment and some very good price deals. If you can, do some on line searches, and then see if a store by you can demo some of the gear.
Not lots of people know that amazon.com sells home theater audio gear. They're worth looking at. Also, a couple of good on line sellers are Vanns and BPAV.
On receivers, great brands include Harmon Kardon, Onkyo, Yamaha and Denon. In speakers, there are such as Polk Audio, JBL, and Infinity, the last of which I am a big fan of.
I have a system with five Infinity Beta speakers run from a Carver pre amp, so I can say that that Beta line is really great sounding, and, since Infinity is discontinuing it, in favour of a newer product line up (Whose appearance doesn't do it for me), there are really great discounts available on the Betas.
At BPAV, you can get the floorstanding Beta 40s for $230
each (List price $400 ea), th bookshelf Beta 20s for $110
each (List price $200), and a Beta C250 center speaker for
$110 (List price $250). If you want a 7.1 system, that'd run you
about $1010 for 2 Beta 40s, 4 Beta 20s, and 1 Beta C250.
Add in an Infinity sub from Vanns, model SW 12 for $400
(List price $800), that brings you up to $1410, leaving you a grand for the receiver. All the models I've mentioned are in cherry colour. No tax and free US shipping.
On receivers, theres a huge range to choose from. Amazon can get you into an Onkyo TX-SR805 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black) for $712.59, free US shipping.
(I think that amazon now has to charge NY State sales tax for any shipments going to NYS) List price is $1000. Its also available in silver colour, for $704.47.
$2120 would be your paid price, and that'd be for some very very nice gear. If you want the Infinitys, you have to hurry, they won't last that long.

What is the best valued home theater in a box system?

I am looking to add a budget home theater system for my Panasonic TC-P46G15 Plasma HDTV. I am looking to spend between $200-$400. I realize the sound won't be as good limiting myself in price, but I am not an audiophile.

Answer
Most home theater in a box are not flexible in adding other equipment later on fro the upgrade. The best is a separate receiver and speakers or a combination. Take a look at the Pioneer VSX-519V-K from Best Buy for $199, it is a 5.1 receiver, or an Onkyo HT-S5200 a 7.1 receiver and a 7.1 speaker set up for under $500. Also take a look at the Yamaha 5.1 YHT-391BL for $299 at Best Buy, it is a receiver and 5.1 speaker set up. Add a blu ray disc player from Panasonic BD-60 for under $200, Costco has it for about $149 and comes with a 90 days return policy and an extra year of factory warranty. Hope this will help you out.

Why are speaker stands and mounts used for home theatre Systems nowadays in India?

Prashant D

I found most people nowadays prefer using speaker wall mounts or speaker stands. Is that a new fad or something?

Answer
Ofcourse not a fad. It is meant for certain advantages like in home theatre mounts if they are tilt/swivel, they give you the advantage of positioning the speakers at the desired angle.

Similarly Stands also give the advantage of placing your speakers anywhere in the room. It also gives the advantage of height adjustment, so that you have your home theatre speakers positioned at your ear listening level.

In India you will find imported products for stands and mounts on ebay.

Tono Systems the Indian company makes them at affordable prices.

What has caused the Caste System to survive?

Bubbly

I would like to know what caused the caste system survive to this day?

Answer
The Indian caste system describes the social stratification and social restrictions in the Indian subcontinent, in which social classes are defined by thousands of endogamous hereditary groups, often termed as jÄtis or castes. Within a jÄti, there exist exogamous groups known as gotras, the lineage or clan of an individual, although in a handful of sub-castes like Shakadvipi, endogamy within a gotra is permitted and alternative mechanisms of restricting endogamy are used (e.g. banning endogamy within a surname).

Although generally identified with Hinduism, the caste system was also observed among followers of other religions in the Indian subcontinent, including some groups of Muslims and Christians.[1] The Indian Constitution has outlawed caste-based discrimination, in keeping with the socialist, secular, democratic principles that founded the nation.[2] Caste barriers have mostly broken down in large cities,[3] though they persist in rural areas of the country, where 72% of India's population resides. Nevertheless, the caste system, in various forms, continues to survive in modern India strengthened by a combination of social perceptions and divisive politics.[4][5]
There have been several studies examining caste members as discrete populations, examining the hypothesis that their ancestors have different origins. A 2002-03 study by T. Kivisild et al. concluded that the "Indian tribal and caste populations derive largely from the same genetic heritage of Pleistocene southern and western Asians and have received limited gene flow from external regions since the Holocene."[10]. Studies point to the various Indian caste groups having similar genetic origins[11] and having negligible genetic input from outside south Asia[11]. However, a 2001 genetic study, led by Michael Bamshad of the University of Utah, found that the affinity of Indians to Europeans is proportionate to caste rank, the upper castes being most similar to Europeans. The researchers believe that the Indo-Aryans entered India from the Northwest and may have established a caste system, in which they placed themselves primarily in higher castes."[12] Because the Indian samples for this study were taken from a single geographical area, it remains to be investigated whether its findings can be safely generalized.[13]

An earlier 1995 study by Joanna L. Mountain et al. of Stanford University had concluded that there was "no clear separation into three genetically distinct groups along caste lines", although "an inferred tree revealed some clustering according to caste affiliation".[14] A 2006 study by Ismail Thanseem et al. of Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (India) concluded that the "lower caste groups might have originated with the hierarchical divisions that arose within the tribal groups with the spread of Neolithic agriculturalists, much earlier than the arrival of Aryan speakers", and "the Indo-Europeans established themselves as upper castes among this already developed caste-like class structure within the tribes."[15] The study indicated that the Indian caste system may have its roots much before the arrival of the Indo-Aryans; a rudimentary version of the caste system may have emerged with the shift towards cultivation and settlements, and the divisions may have become more well-defined and intensified with the arrival of Indo-Aryans.[16]

A 2006 genetic study by the National Institute of Biologicals in India, testing a sample of men from 32 tribal and 45 caste groups, concluded that the Indians have acquired very few genes from Indo-European speakers.[17]

Varna and Jati
Main articles: Varna in Hinduism and JÄti
Dalits in Jaipur

According to the ancient Hindu scriptures, there are four "varnas." The Bhagavad Gita says varnas are decided based on Guna and Karma. Manusmriti and some other shastras mention four varnas: the Brahmins (teachers, scholars and priests), the Kshatriyas (kings and warriors), the Vaishyas (agriculturists and traders), and Shudras (service providers and artisans). This theoretical system postulated Varna categories as ideals and explained away the reality of thousands of endogamous JÄtis actually prevailing in the country as being the historical products of intermarriage among the "pure" Varnas - Varna Sankara. All those, including foreigners, tribals and nomads, who did not subscribe to the norms of the Hindu society were described as Mlechhas and treated as contagious and untouchables. Another group excluded from the main society was called Parjanya or Antyaja. This group of former "untouchables" (self described as Dalits) ie downtrodden, was considered either the lower section of Shudras or outside the caste system altogether. Passages from scriptures such as Manusmriti indicate that the varna system was originally non-hereditary.[18]

Several critics of Hinduism state that the caste system is rooted in the varna system mentioned in the ancient Hindu scriptures.[19] However, many groups

What is a good speaker system for under 500 bucks?

George

It does not necessarily have to be a complete system, even include the new soundbar systems.

Thank you

Answer
To be honest speakers are only part of what you need for great crisp sound. I will assume you have a good receiver and you are looking for a 5.1 system or even 6.1?? If so I honestly recommend Onkyo. I have had Dennon and Phillips and Sony speakers and they don't compete with wattage or range of sound compared to price. They are my vote for a system under 500. They offer many different styles to meet your needs, at least check them out. I ordered mine from ecost.com and they had an amazing deal on them, but you can get them in stores too.

fosheezies

We're trying to arrange an outdoor video screening on a huge projector on a wall. We have basic 5 speaker setup stereo available, but we want to be able to wire additional speakers throughout the space (it's huge space so everything is pretty spaced out).

We want to avoid having to crank up the volume in on the main speakers (like a theater), so we rather do it drive-in movie style where each section gets their own speakers (wireless preferred).

Any ideas on setup or how to do this?

Answer
Get a Audio Unlimited transmitter set. It's on sale on Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002PHMGN0?ie=UTF8&tag=thebubrocpro-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002PHMGN0

Then get as many additional speakers as you need here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000YLKK0K?ie=UTF8&tag=thebubrocpro-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000YLKK0K

The speakers are even rated for outdoor use!

What is a good wireless outdoor microphone to pick up bird sounds?

jmg62699

I'm a birder and I enjoy listening to the birds. In winter, when I have my windows closed, I don't get to hear them and I miss it. I have an idea to put a small microphone on the pole that supports my feeders with a speaker in the house to bring the bird sounds inside. Any recommendations?

Answer
If the mic is to be "wireless", then there needs to be some sort of battery powered transmitter that sends the wireless audio signal to a wireless audio receiver or "base station"; the base station connects to an amplifier; the amplifier connects to the "small speaker". There may be some sort of base station-amplifier-speaker combination unit available that can connect to the wireless mic... but we have not solved the issue of the power for the wireless transmitter... unless you are wiling to change batteries in the transmitter every few days. And we don't know what sort of weather protection there is available for the electronics and the mic...

If the mic is "wired" and the cable run is over about 15 feet, use of shielded cable is desirable. If unshielded cable is used, the long cable can pick up radio frequency and electro-magnetic interference because the cable basically turns into an antenna. The result can be audible hiss, pops, static and even radio or TV stations.

Starting at the mic: A half decent shotgun mic with long enough extension cables connect to an integrated amplifier/speaker. Rather than place the mic at the feeder, place the shotgun mic closer to the house on a pole out the window. This way, changing batteries in the mic is easier - decent directional, condenser, shotgun mics need power - many can house a AA battery. Anchor makes good little integrated amp/speaker units.

speaker system battlefield 3 image

Garrett Pi

I know nothing about building computers. All I know is I want to run big games on a larger sized monitor with no lag. I have the mouse and keyboard. No speakers though. Thanks :)

Answer
well garret, I will help you paraphrase your question since cheap and gaming computer are actually like oil and water, they cannot be mixed together.

What you want to know is the least expensive gaming PC that can max out BF3 on 1080p, am I correct???

well, The lowest card that can let you play BF3 on max settings on 1080p is the GTX 560 ti with an AVE FPS of 31.8:

http://bf3nation.com/2011/10/battlefield-3-graphic-card-benchmarks-from-580570-gtx-to-radeon-hd-69706900/

But if you wanted to have a smoother gameplay, then the lowest would be a GTX 560 ti 448 cores.

So I'll just give you this example of a build that can max out all games on 1080p including BF3:

Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 3000 BX80623I52500K - $225

GIGABYTE GA-Z68A-D3H-B3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard - $115

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL - $47

Seagate Barracuda ST500DM002 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive - $86

EVGA 012-P3-2066-KR GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 448 Cores FTW 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card - $270 ($250 after rebate)

CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX850M 850W ATX12V v2.31 / EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular High Performance Power Supply - $130 ($115 after rebate)

COOLER MASTER HAF 912 RC-912-KKN1 Black SECC/ ABS Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - $60 ($50 after rebate)

inland 70126 Black 107 Normal Keys USB Wired Standard Keyboard / Mouse Combo - $13.79

inland Home/Office Series 88033 7.2 Watts 2.0 Speaker - $10

COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus RR-B10-212P-G1 "Heatpipe Direct Contact" Long Life Sleeve 120mm CPU Cooler Compatible Intel Core i5 & Intel Core i7 - $30

Acer G215HVAbd Black 21.5" 5ms Full HD WideScreen LCD Monitor 200 cd/m2 20,000:1 Max (ACM) - $130 (1080p)

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM - $100

TOTAL : $1238.79 ($1193.79 after rebate), this is a perfect COMPLETE PC for that price, this build could practically play all games on max settings on 1080p. The GTX 560 ti 448 cores is only slightly slower than the GTX 570 thus it is a great card. And also, this build is SLI ready since the PSU (corsair 850w) is excellent and can handle 2 way SLI of GTX 560 ti 448 cores on a high end system with overclocking.

What Specs Should I Look For In a Gaming Desktop?

Zach Fossu

I'd like to get my first gaming desktop. I'm not completely adapt at computers, but I can understand most basic things. I'd just like a few questions, such as if I would need an i7 or I would be fine with an i5. What is the main difference between Intel and AMD? Most discussion boards I've visited about the topic usually have people saying Intel is better because it's "the next generation". I play quite a variety of games such as LoL, WoW, Counterstrike, Diablo, Starcraft, GTA, and hopefully more after I get my new computer which could run all of them at optimal settings. I'd be able to put around $900-$1000 into the computer and want one in which I wouldn't have to upgrade things very often, hopefully coming with a top of the line video card installed. Any tips or suggestions about what to check out or what to look for would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
First, you ask yourself some questions.
1) Build yourself, buy completed, or custom builder?
Building it yourself will take research of good from bad, and advice on your part list.
The pcpartpicker web site, already mentioned in other answer(s) is a shopping and compatibility tool that helps you to also get all the parts you need. You save a variable amount of money, and can choose your own goals. Custom build is normally the highest price, selecting from their part list and they assemble, test, ship. Buying completed takes some shopping. In all three you should still learn good from bad, or take someone's word for it.
2) Your goals in the system?:
Best performance for the money spent, or quality-stability-reliability, or cosmetic features, or upgradability. Some of these overlap, but you get a different result based on your desires in each area.
3) Total cost including what part set?
Base computer, monitor, cables, speakers/headset, keyboard, mouse.
A different total cost yields different results, and even mentioning the $900-1000, what does it include?

Your current games are relatively low requirements. I do not see Battlefield-4, Crysis-3, or even Skyrim. There is a list here and laptop measures of graphics cards, and some Desktop if you select Desktop+Laptop GPU, select games, RESTRICT.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html

The general guidance of performance is that settings and frame rates will depend on the graphics card unless bottlenecked by the CPU or RAM or even display (60Hz=60fps).
Will you want to overclock the CPU (even if it gains little in performance?) ?
Digital Storm is a high quality custom builder and they also sell Vanquish as a pre-built in various levels:
http://www.digitalstormonline.com/vanquish.asp

About AMD vs Intel CPUs, the actual gaming performance for the price is very close, although in recording gaming or other applications of non-gaming and multitasking, AMD is often a better value. However, if your eventual goal is a tier 1 system, you can only get there with an Intel CPU.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html
You can get great price-performance using an AMD CPU, especially that motherboards are often better featured for the price when adding CPU+Motherboard. AMD CPUs do use more power and are generally less efficient.

i5 vs i7 and CPUs of over 4 cores: Only Crysis-3 with its Cry-3 engine fully utilizes the CPUs capabilities. Games you mention use only one or two cores, and newer games to 4 cores. Skyrim uses 2 cores fully and 2 cores weakly. Hyperthreading virtual cores of i7 are for Crysis-3 and multitasking (like game recording) and editing video. There is little difference in gaming performance starting with 3rd gen Intel i5 through all the i7's.

There is some disagreement about the FX series of AMD versus Intel i3, but once at i5, you have surpassed all AMD in gaming (exc Cry-3 engine). In a build of best value for the money, you start with an i3 or FX-6300. In a build of a future performance at top level, you can start with an i3 and upgrade or start with i5 and be done with it. Haswell Intel is about 6% better than its similar Ivy Brodge, and the motherboards of Haswell generally are better but cost more. Once choosing Intel, you need to decide Ivy Bridge or Haswell. The i5's of Ivy Bridge are adequate for ultra for every game. More CPU power does not increase gaming performance (except if recording). K version cpus are overclockable and must mate with Z motherboards to do the overclocking plus a good CPU cooler. You can still damage the CPU.

In that my answer is running out of space, GPU upgrade is similar to GPU selection:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=As3_bG9s1FBTBnMCpx0UZebty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20130816021720AAgXVjJ
There are good value pre-built by Avatar, CyberpowerPC and iBuypower at Newegg.com, but they will often use some lower grade components.
To Crossfire/SLI 2 graphics cards in the future, you need a dual slot board pcie x 16, and SLI needs x8/x8 capable and that runs better in crossfire.
A high quality power supply is very worthwhile. Bad supplies make mysterious issues and very bad ones can wipe out your system when they blow.
You would have to look through some Q+A in my history to learn more, or email me.
Are you near a Microcenter with discounted CPUs?
First pass Intel Ivy Bridge overclockable and SLI/CF capable build, now $940.90 after promos and rebates, some expire today:
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1zg1V
and, a $970 Haswell i5 based:
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1zg88
each of which can be edited and swizzled.

I want to buy 4 new speakers for my '97 ford ranger to get better sound quality, but i don't know how to measure them to look for new ones. And my stereo system says 50x4 watts....what does this mean?

Answer
50 x 4 is a max value for each speaker

the realistic amount of power going to those is more like 20 watts.

you would want to find some speakers with low RMS values(under 50 or so),

and there are many sites to find your speaker sizes.

from crutchfield:

1997 Ford Ranger Pickup
with AM/FM/Cassette deck; with AUTO SET button on factory radio

* Aftermarket Stereo Installed [change]

Factory replacement info:

In-dash stereo
7-1/2" depth; Size code E,S,U ; Non-standard dash opening (special integration package required)

Front speakers
Front Door: 6x8"

Far rear speakers
Behind Seat: 6x8"

So you need 6x8s or 5x7s
(normally the same thing, or very close to it)

How to make my car system better?

Joseph

I have two stock 6" or 6 1/2" speakers in the front and two stock 7" or 7 1/2" speakers in the back. I don't exactly have the cash to go buy some amazing system but I'd like to replace either the front or back speakers with high quality coaxials and get a new cd player. Which would be better to replace front or back based on how the sound would travel? And what're some good brands and models of speakers and cd players for a reasonable price? Websites please?

Answer
Since this is a stereo you should focus on the front speakers. I will recommend you to go to a nearby store and listen to some speakers of the 6,5" type. For the cd player go for a trusted brand like Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood, Sony or so, pick up what the store you are wisting have.

How do i hook up an ipod to the positive and negative terminals (red and black) on a speaker?

LJLiveLV

I wanna hook up my ipod to an old speaker system without buying an expensive cable or a radio transmitter.

Answer
It won't work and may damage the iPod. The output of an iPod is intended for small headphones.

Buy powered speakers intended for the purpose. Walmart, Target, Radio Shack and places like that have inexpensive iPod docks with powered speakers for that purpose.

The one below is battery powered and sounds nice, for about $30.

How do I set up a wireless speaker system in my apartment?
So I've got a desktop PC with wireless internet. I want to get speakers in my lounge/diner and in my bedroom that will play the music from my PC e.g. itunes/spotify.
Is it possible? Is it complicated?

Answer
You can buy wireless speakers which have a transmitter which plugs into e pc audio socket and receivers in the speakers.

Or you could buy a video sender, and ignore the picture part of it, plug the audio into the pc and plug some speakers Into the receiver end.

Or you could use Bluetooth, depending how far away the receiver needs to be (usually 10m or 30ft maximum). You can buy bluetooth speakers or an adapter (Belkin do one) that you can plug existing speakers into, If your PC doesn't have Bluetooth you can buy a USB Bluetooth adapter very cheaply.

On the other hand, all these are a bit expensive and diddly. It ought be easier to buy an iPod or other mp3 player and plug it into speakers in each room whe you need them.

I'm not sure that you'll be able to play to several sets of speakers at once whatever you do. Certainly not using Bluetooth.

I have a speaker system with a 12 inches, 4 ohms woofer and a 4 ohms piezoeletric tweeter.

My amplifer can give me 100 Watts RMS.

So, I need to know, how many of the power goes to the tweeter an how many goes tothe woofer?
But a 4.7 mF capacitor in series with the tweeter does not make it have another impedance different of 4 ohms?
4.7 mf = 4.7 microfarads, impossible write the "micro char" here.
I did not know RMS is a wromng term. But I already have read many magazines taht reffers to RMS as CONTINUOUS Watts.

Answer
If your amp puts out 100W then 100W can go to your tweeter if you put in a high frequency tone--of course you may not have a working tweeter after doing this.

Typical music has a spectrum such that 85% of the power is below 3kHz and 15% is above 3kHz. So according the website below you would have 15W to the tweeter...typically. If you read through the article you'll see it's a little more complex. Also, I've seen various shapes describing typical music, talk, etc. on other sites so your results will vary.

Answer
from the specs, I see both have the same score. But when I see the output, http://www.amazon.com/Genius-SW-G2-1-1250-Speaker-System/dp/B0056BPUQC/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top have 38-watt output, and I think the sound will be better than Logitech. Since you need to find out what you want to have, sound clarity, bass-boost or multi-input that you need to use with other device. For me, Genius is my choice since it have lots of feature that Logitech did not have.

Will I lose sound quality using a 10 metre 3.5mm jack cable?

tgooda7

I'm connecting Logitech Z323 speakers to a laptop, primarily to play music via iTunes, using a 10 metre 3.5mm audio cable. My question is, will I notice a loss of sound quality against using the standard 3.5mm cable that is already attached to the speakers (only about a metre long)?

Answer
I have run all kinds of tests on this and here is wht I have discovered in the past.

If you run an extensive amount of cable you could notice a loss in sound quality. But in order to reach the extensive category you will need to have three to four times the cable you currently are worried about. Something like 4 metres. But if you have to run that much cable between the system well you need to think about relocating the system in general.

Now for your situation no you won't notice a difference. Not even if you have a cheap 3.5mm audio cable. There have been extensive tests done by third party examiners and buying an expensive cable versus an inexpensive cable makes such a minute difference that you don't even notice it even over long distances. And even over longer distances the two cable perform st such minute levels that it again makes no difference.

So the short answer is definitely no. You will not notice unless you have advanced sound analysis equipment and really really want to look for a difference in sound. But you don't seem like you are looking to do that kind of work.

What is a good speaker system for $150 or less?

Mr.Largo

I just got birthday money for a speaker system and I'm looking for the best sound for my money. I've been looking at the Logitech z-2300, but they seem kind of outdated? These will be used on my computer. I won't listen to them on too high of volume, but I'd like them to be able to still sound clear even when turned all the way up.
Thanks.

Answer
You really do get what you pay for with speakers. Your best bet is to go on Bestbuy.com, tigerdirect.com, newegg.com, and sears.com and check out reviews of speakers. Every brand has their flops and golden speakers. Why not listen to someone who has already owned them?

How do I set up an integrated speaker system in my home?

On the ceiling of my living room there is a series of round, flat speakers about a foot in diameter as well as a knob by the light switches which make up some sort of integrated speaker system (or so I guess). I've no idea how to set them up or use them. What sort of outlets or cables should I be looking for to make use of this sort of system?

Answer
You are going to need a receiver to connect to the speakers already in the ceiling. You will need to find the location of the speaker wire or outlet and see what they provide for the connection. It could be RCA jacks color coded in Red and White (Red being the positive and White being the negative) and then match that with the speaker terminal of your receiver. Hope this will help you out.

How loud should I set my rear surrounded speakers?

I have a Logitech Z906 speaker system. Whenever I set my rear speakers either they're too low or too loud that I can't hear the front dialogue speakers. How can I set it to that 'just right' volume?

Answer
You can get a sound DB meter from radio shack or other electronics stores and use that to set up your speakers using the meter in a fixed location you set up all speakers to put out thye same level, you need some kind of program or disk that will generate a pink noise or white noise sound into each speaker in turn so they can be adjusted equally....

What is the difference between a kicker amp and a bass sub system?

gmaguitar0

I want to put a new speaker system in my car....first off i need to know these things

1) What exactly does a kicker amp do?
2) If i get a kicker amp do i have to get a bass sub?
3) If i get a bass sub do i have to get a kicker amp?
4) Do my door speakers hook into the kicker amp?

Answer
1)Kicker is a brand. An amp does exactly what it says (amplifies), it makes your music louder. 2)If you are getting the amp to specifically run a subwoofer then yes. If you want bass in your car then it is best to run a amp to a subwoofer. If you just want to make it louder in your ride then just hook up your amp to the inside speakers only.3)If you get a bassing sub then get an amp for it accordingly (kicker is a great brand).4)Yes, wires have to be run from the amp to the door speakers. The way it works is you run a power wire (12 volt ), a ground wire, remote wire to the amp, and rca jacks if your stereo has them and if not you have to get a converter(sends signal to amp from stereo to let it know what it is playing), and then run speaker wire from the amp to the speakers.

I am sixteen years old and looking for a good, reliable sound system for my room. I would want to use it to play xbox and listen to music (i listen to a lot of electro house type stuff so it needs good bass). I just want to hear some personal opinions on specific systems you or your friends used that arent over 250 bucks. Thank you

Answer
You don't say what you will be using to drive these speakers.

For most audio uses, you would need an audio receiver, with a TV, disc player and gaming system, you'd need a home theater audio receiver for the job, then plus the speakers.

$250 isn't really going to get you anything good. A Yamaha 371 model will run you $180, and a 5.1 set of Polk 6750 speakers (When buying speakers, stick to companies that specialise in them.) will run you $225, with a list price of $600. Add in 100 feet of 16 gauge speaker wire, a subwoofer cable, and the needed HDMI and digital audio optical cables (All easily findable for low prices on Amaz*n.com), and you'd be set up with a system that could take anything that you could throw at it, and it will sound great.

What is needed for a COMPLETE car audio system?

Seth

I'm looking to put together my own car stereo system and was wondering what all is needed to do so. For exacmple the head unit, subwoofers, amps and so on.

Answer
Here is what I did on my 97 STS Cadillac.

NEW Sony explode everything except the baby bazooka sub.
Head unit 180.00. Bluetooth usb etc..
500 watt amp, 4 channel. 225.00

Door speakers dual cone 120.00

Deck speakers triaxel 6x9 125.00

Big ( 3/8) power wire going from the battery to the trunk, with a big fuse.

Good size braided speaker wires that all reached the trunk.

3 coax braided wires that reached the trunk from the head unit. ALSO don't for get to run a small signal wire to the trunk from the deck for the amp signal. L R front- L R rear and sub out. (I took out the front seat and the back seat and ran everything under the carpet)

Get a good ground fore the amp, in the floor of the trunk. (I drilled a hole and used some sand paper)

It was about 600 bucks and 6 hours work.

I have a 1 farad capacitor ready to go in, but so far there is no dimming of the headlights or charging problems.

I want to connect all my audio sources 1. TV. 2. DVD 3. XBOX 4. MP3 player to one speaker system. what is the best way to connect with using my TV out or a amplifier?

Answer
i would say that you buy a reciever. that would solve the first 3, then i just bought a cord from radio shack that was around $8 that connects your l&r audio jacks to a headphone plug. i had the same problem and that seems to work for me and it wasnt too expensive...they may make recievers now with an mp3 player jack but im not sure.

Can I use the Logitech Speaker System Z313 with my laptop?

Chris J

I'm looking for some new speakers for my room, and I'm trying to decide between the Logitech Z313 and the Z323 models. I like the Z313 model because of the hand control, but I'm not sure if I will be able to plug in either of them to my laptop. If it helps, I have 3 USB ports, an ethernet port, a port (not sure what its called) that is used to plug in projecters to, a red mic port, a green "audio?" port, and a headphone jack. Please help me if you can; also a review on one or both of those systems would be great,
Sorry guys- just checked and the headphone jack is actually the green audio jack. My mistake.

Answer
Either speaker system will work with your laptop. They would connect to the black/uncolored audio jack (looks similar to the headphone jack), which should be labeled "Line Out". Unless the green is the only Audio Out that your laptop has, in which case the speakers would connect to that.

Feature-wise, the Z323 is better in that it has slightly better output power and range (30 Watts RMS & 40Hz-20kHz vs 25 Watts & 48Hz-20kHz), and it has multiple inputs, so you can connect more than just your laptop to it. If you do not need the extra inputs, however, then the Z313 will work fine; 5 Watts and 8Hz difference are not worth the extra $20 by themselves.

What is the ideal box of 12" speakers?

toyman2323

Im planning to make a home made stereo system. I got 2 speakers which is 250 watts.each! Now what should be the box size and. Gimme tips how to make it sound better.
Thank you guys.

Answer
The size (and type) of the box depends on speaker's characteristics, not their size.
1. find your speakers parameters "Fs", "Qts" and "Vas" either in their datasheet or at the internet,
2. go to this page,
http://www.mmsa.org.uk/guides/car_audio/subwoofer_box_design_calculator.html
3. and get the proper box dimensions and expected low end frequency response depending which type of box you'll choose (closed, bass-reflex, or band-pass).
Note:
if you intend to use them for home stereo as well check also this on-line calculator

What soundcard would you recommend for surround sound?

goodyear36

I want to give my computer the capability of surround and also boost the quality of audio. What kind of sound card would you suggest at a reasonable price? And any suggestions for speakers?

Answer
I recommend the ASUS Xonar Essence STX (PCIe), Xonar Essence ST (PCI), Xonar HDAV1.3 Slim (PCI), or Auzen X-Fi HomeTheater HD (PCIe) sound cards above all other audio and sound cards at the present time.

When using a high-performance audio/sound card (or external DAC) and high resolution audio material youâll want to use loudspeakers that are a significant step above your run-of-the-mill multimedia loudspeaker system. I have provided a short list of reputable manufacturers of well-regarded, high-performance nearfield and midfield monitor style loudspeakers. From the list you should be able to quickly narrow-down a short list of models that will fit your budget. From there you can read reviews and seek out end-user feedback to help narrow the list down further if need be. Beyond that, the loudspeaker models that make it to your âshort list,â should be thoroughly auditioned in person at various local dealers in your areaâor better yet in your own homeâin order to ensure that the loudspeakers you will be purchasing are the best choice for your application(s) and/or musical tastes.
