Check with Apple in their Store online.
Or Walmart.com
Or DLO.com

What computer speakers are the best for their price?

Zachhhhhhh

first off, i will use speakers, mainly for my computer/ipod with ROCK music, so they need a headphone jack and they need to sound VERRYYY good! ok now i was thinking of getting the bose Companion® 5 multimedia speaker system for $399 but everyone online is saying other people make basically the same sounding thing for half the price. i just want a very very good speaker system and yes it can be pricey. please just inform me on what the best speakers are.

Answer
Best speakers for your computer/ iPod music use would be a pair of good monitor speakers - especially if space is not a concern.
Monitors/ pro monitors are made for accurate sound reproduction: used by musicians, dj-mixing artists, guitarists, etc ; to achieve *accurate* representation of what they are producing/ recording...
To them, high quality sound fidelity is their focus.
And ONLY Pro Monitor style active speakers can live up to this task... These active speakers all have dedicated tweeters and decent sized woofers: anywhere from 4" to 8" that are mostly made of a type of carbon fiber or aluminum.
These speakers are always powered buy multiple integrated amps: one for each driver: so in a 2.0 monitor system, there are usually 4amps total: two inside each speaker.

So what can these Monitor speakers do for you??
Well, you asked for best: for music, a good speaker system will reproduce your recordings/ music with 100%(or close to) accuracy: and give you what the original artist:singer:recording studio INTENDED For you to hear.: their music.

Lesser systems won't and can't do this because they do not have the dedicated tweeters, multiple amps, quality drivers, or components.

And best of all is that: although these types of speakers are not well known to the general public, and is a smaller market vs the consumer end audio... There are still lots of brands/options; which means that the prices are controlled by "competition".
Bottom line is that you get quality, accuracy, fidelity for fair prices- similar or even lower than the Bose companion5: Which is in comparison is inaccurate, bloated, fatiguing, bad build/material quality, etc- I can go on and on-- but one note I cannot miss is that these $400 speakers do NOT have any dedicated TWEETERS!wow.

Look at speakers that are sold in music stores, guitar shops etc.
Notable brands:
Krk
M-audio
Genelec
Yamaha
Tannoy
Mackie
Etc...
Their prices/sizes range quite a bit... They are also available at amazon.com.

Hope this helps!

How to build or where to buy my dream home audio system?

Angela

At minimum I'd love to have an mp3-based system independent of our PC, accessible from at least one room in the house, and wired or wireless to a speaker system in every room in the house. Each speaker can be turned on or off according to which room(s) I'd like to hear the audio in.

My ultimate dream would include a wall-mounted mp3-type base unit in every room, and from each base unit I could also control which speakers in the house are playing.

Answer
You need to go to a high end audo store and tell them what you need. They will design and install a system for you.
My buddy just built a home with a system like that. It is pretty cool. I kind of wish I would of done that when I built my house.

I am from india and i ve been studing english for 4 years but still feel difficulty to speak and write.how can i improve my english or is it imposible for me?

Answer
Actually, broadening/improving one's language skills is a very broad concept, it should be done in more than one ways at the same time which is highly recommended. One can NOT become better ONLY in one area, say, chatting or speaking, one MUST improve skills in ALL dimensions of the language!

Learning language well requires being as active as possible and making the learning as FUN for oneself as possible. Taking lessons is always important, but equally important are these:

1) Listen/watch: Keep listening to internet radio stations like BBC, watch TV shows in English (use only subtitles, NOT voice dubbing in case you are not a native English speaker!), etc.

2) Write/communicate: Try to find discussion forums from the web about things that you find interesting and FUN (music/various artists, hobbies, etc.) and start communicating there with other people using only English. Start using instant messaging systems in case you find some new friends or start emailing them. Please do NOT be afraid of making mistakes or hesitating, because even native speakers do make mistakes and do hesitate at times! The more you enjoy communicating, the better!

3) Buy yourself a proper dictionary, and each time when you see a strange word that you do not understand, look it up. Putting words into their CONTEXT is one of the best ways to broaden one's vocabulary and grammar knowledge, the more you read and write the better. Memorising is NOT the best way to go with learning vocabulary, grammar or any other language areas! For idioms, you should buy an all-English dictionary which explains the words in English and shows you examples of how to use the words.

The main point in ANY language learning is to make it as fun as possible for yourself. Try to find topics that INTEREST you, read online newspapers (Times, Guardian, Independent...), listen to BBC/NBC and other radio stations online, if you find a discussion forum for e.g. your favourite hobby or your idols in music do participate there, etc. The key word here is CONTEXT, which means that it is easier to learn new words and their usage as well as grammar when you use/see them in their real CONTEXT. The more you see and hear the new words in their context and the more you use them in your speech & writing, the easier it becomes to remember their meanings and correct spelling. Do NOT be afraid of making mistakes though, because even native speakers do make mistakes and do hesitate at times!

I'm sorry there is NO EASY WAY out with this, one really must develop language skills in ALL these language "levels" or dimensions in order to reach better language skills!!

Last but not least: NEVER EVER use ANY online translators, they are nothing but utter rubbish!! English is practically EVERYWHERE in the online world these days, you just have to use your imagination to find it! Learning pace is always personal, it takes the time it takes so there is no reason to hurry it up too much. If you do, you will not learn so well. Also, please learn the basics of the standard English first before advancing to finer details like dialects/accents. A word of warning though: Do stay well away from overrated, overpriced and overhyped language "gimmicks" such as Rosetta Stone, they really are NOT worth for checking out!

Good luck!

What specs do I look for in buying wall mount speakers that take the least amount of power.?

speaker system comparison

speaker system comparison image

Stephen

Our vacation home is off grid and controlling power consumption is important. Are there certain specs when buying speakers that should be looked at other then wattage.

Answer
Quite frankly you are worrying about nothing. The amount of extra line (AC wall outlet) power an inefficient speaker will use compared to an efficient speaker is negligible unless you are setting up an elaborate concert system. Lets say for instance you get yourself a set of Klipshchorns, one of the most efficient speakers ever made, and run them at high volume all day. Then the next day you swap in a pair of AR 18 speakers, an inefficient speaker by comparison, and run them all day at high volume. How much electricity did you save with the Klipschorns? Probably only enough to run a 65 watt light bulb for 10 minutes, if even that. Speakers do not consume much energy. Most of the electricity is used in the circuitry of the amplifier and that also is negligible compared to appliances like refrigerators, televisions, CRT computer monitors and kitchen appliances. If you really do want efficient speakers look for horn loaded speakers. The desirability of efficient speakers is that they simply distort less per given input and the amplifier will also create less distortion as it isn't working as hard. In the early days of Hi-Fi efficient speakers like the the Electrovoice Patrician, Altec Voice of the Theater and the aforementioned Klipschorn were in demand because amplifiers of that era were considered high power if they had a 40 watt rating. Now days that's considered low power. My big system has around 1,700 watts and even that is dwarfed by some setups. The demarcation of a speaker's efficiency is SPL -Sound Pressure Level. This is given as a decibel rating. An inefficient speaker will be in the 80 - 89 dB range. Mid-efficiency will be in the 90s. High efficiency is generally considered over 97 dB. Systems that are fully horn loaded (the woofer too) will be in the 100+ dB range. Again, our old friend the Klipschorn has a 105 dB rating and the old anecdote is that a 10 watt amplifier will power it to levels that will have the cops knocking on your door. But it's a big boy, at 175 Lbs and over 4' tall. That is the trade off. There is no way to fool the laws of physics. If you want efficiency and a good low bass output, speakers have to be big. Beware of the small ones, particularly the expensive little cubes.

What speakers system is better for a car? Bose or Harmon/Kardon audio system? Or just about both?

joewillgo

The reason I am asking this because Buick uses Bose in there new Verano compact car. However there Buick Mid-Sized Lacross car has the Karmon/Kardon audio system in it. So which system is better?

Answer
I've always said that Bose is over rated. Ask any audiophile and that's what you'll hear. The HK system imo is better. But then again the Lacrosse is far more expensive. This is where your gonna have to sit in both cars & have a good listen. Be sure to bring your reference CD for an honest comparison. I myself if i had the money would get the Lacrosse. Rumor has it that a turbo 2.0L will be available in the Verona later this yr. Here's a video of that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2JY91Y6PY8

Looking for good 2.1 speaker system with auxiliary and component plugs?

Luke Was H

I'm looking for a high-quality speaker system to connect to my Zune HD dock via auxiliary jack or red-white component cables, Price range of somewhere around $100.

Anyone have a good set that they would recommend?

Thank you!
iTeapot (Invisible Sky Atheist?)

I was looking at those the other day actually! Are the satellites wireless or wired? I don't want to have to deal with battery changing or charging >.<

Answer
I myself am a Logitech fan, so there are two 2.1 sets by them I highly recommend. Both are $100, and well worth the cost. They've got great sound quality, and more than enough power.

The Z523: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/home_pc_speakers/devices/5861&cl=us,en

The Z-4: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/home_pc_speakers/devices/250&cl=us,en

They may look small-ish to some, but they've done well for me in the past.

Do you think that there will be any problem if I buy any of these?
DTXplorer is an electronic drum set.
I play mostly Hard Rock, Rock, Rock Alternative, Punk Rock.
Alternative Rock *

Answer
What instrument do you play? I am not familiar with the DTX system so I cannot really judge what is best for you. I am also unfamiliar with the style of music you play and the specific needs of your at home rig.
The first system being a 40 watt setup would probably be fine for low level guitar, but if you are a bass player than I would go with the 200 watt setup just to get the overhead you need. Neither of these systems is actually designed for instrument useage. They are essentially designed for use with a computer setup. Consequently they will not deliver the same type of sound that you would get from a guitar or bass rig. They will work, but not as well as a dedicated practice amp setup.
If you are a keyboard player than the second system will work fine.

What's The Difference Between Stereo Sound And Mono Sound?

If I listened to a stereophonic audio clip and then a mono audio clip, what would be the the diference between the two and why do we use stereo sound?

Answer
Stereo means two channel as in a seperate right channel and a seperate left channel. Mono is just one channel. Usually the left and right channel combined. In the early days of reproduced sound there was only mono recordings. It wasn't until 1925 that the first radio broadcast was presented in stereo. Stereo uses at least two microphones to capture sound to be recorded. A left mic and a right mic. The reason we use stereo is because we have two ears(left and right) and it creates a more believable soundstage. Stereo recordings may have seperate information on the independent channels. The bass and vocals are for the most part in mono. When you sit in the "sweet spot" between two speakers in a stereo set up and listen to music, you will hear different sounds coming from either speaker. The voice will usually be dead center unless it was recorded off center or live and the performer moves around in which you will hear them do so. If you were to listen to a mono recording with the same set up, everything would appear to come from exactly in between the two speakers and it will be a duller sound. Mono sound still has its uses though. It is used mainly when people will not be sitting or standing in the sweet spot. Such as a concert or other live event or a nightclub for example where people are constantly moving around. That way they can still hear all the left and right information and not just what would be coming out of just the side(L or R) that they are nearest. Other uses are like in a 70 volt audio system. Like when you go to a store and they're playing music through those ceiling speakers. Happy listening.

does any body know what a typical sixties nightclub/disco was like?

Isabelle

What was it look like furniture wise, did they have that cool mulitcoloured checked flashy floor thing,DJ,bar, ect?

Answer
Disco Bars were mid to late 70's dependent on your location . Sixties Nightclubs still has plush comfortable chairs, often wood or flock wallpaper. Sixties Clubs were often like a hole in the ground with little or no air, sweating brick walls, and heaving mass of bodies - Dancing. In many cellar clubs Drink was non alcoholic.
Live Beat Groups were the Sounds of the Clubs with the latest imports played by trend setting DJs on the Sound System which had a Bass Speaker set up designed to get the walls to shake. A UV light was the attraction with a follow spot if space allowed and any flashing lights were a had operating the switch.
In the Night Clubs Music was supplied by a single pianist to a full Dance Band dependent on size and status but never lighting other than soft, romantic and flattering.
Disco had the first of the Lighting Control Boxes and Sequencers the old Moving lights prior to that were from Slide Projectors and Slides with Different Inks Projected { Early Pink Floyd were the Masters}
So which do you need the info on . The 60,s Beatles, Stones, Yardbirds, Animals from Uk
or The Disco days as per Saturday Night Fever

What number speakers are needed 5.1 or recent 7.1? Is it better to go with "all-in-one" system like Bose or mix and match with specific receiver and speaker system?

Answer
This depends on you and your environment. 5.1 does fine for most but 7.1 will be more emersive. All in one systems never match up to separates but are less expensive ( aside from Bose) If you want a system in the Bose price range look for the Energy "Classic" Take 5 system. This was called the "Bose Killer" a few years ago. It used to be $900 for the speaker system w/sub but was recently rereleased at about $500 and still hold up very well. At the time when I worked at the good guys! in the audio department 9 out of 10 people who came in asking for Bose when they came in bought the Take 5 after listening to both. You can get a fully featured receiver to go with it for about $500. The Sony STRDG910 gets good reviews. This would make a great starter system and includes great Blu-Ray connectivity. If you want to spend a little more look into Denon or Yamaha receivers and better Energy, Paradigm or Definitive Technology speakers.
I think what "He Who" means is that Dolby Digital is the standard audio format for HD broadcast. It isn't all 5.1 necesarily. It can be 5.1, 4.0, 2.0 or even 1.0 (unlikely but is a possibility with Dolby Digital.) DVDs go up to 6.1 and BD movies up to 7.1.

Any programs or anything I can use?

Also, I usually stream on Livestream.

Answer
If you talking about recording just what is coming out of your speakers, you can do that by downloading this application called soundflower. This allows you to set the computer to, hear itself. Just make sure you set the audio input and output to the same value. This way you just use any audio recording software and record sound that way.

What should I consider when buying speakers for PC?

vgershenzo

I am looking for speakers for my PC, what specs should I look for in order to get value for my buck. In addition, which make is considered to be good?

Answer
It will all depend on what your tastes are, your budget, and your use. Do you do a lot of on line gaming, listen to music, watch movies? I would choose a 7.1 system, because I watch a lot of movies. For gaming, I would go with a 5.1 system. There are several good brands. Just remember, you usually get what you pay for. speaker system logitech z323 image

minikarter

So I have this Logitech speaker system. the Z323 model. Where's the best place to put my speakers? or is it the general, with satellites a couple of feet either side of the monitor and subwoofer on the floor?

Tips would be great! Especially with placement of the woofer as the bass isn't great unless I get my head under the desk! the woofer itself points downward from the box with a port, which atm is pointing to my right by my feet. Should this be pointing forward or?

Answer
2.1 surround generally you have 2 speakers on either side of the monitor or TV about the same distance apart then you have the sub on either side on the floor. It is important to find the right place for a sub, as subs generally are harder to place since they pass sound waves differently. Also if its under a desk it will make the sub sound differently.

How do I connect a speaker system to another? I have a Logitech z2300, and a Logitech z323.?

Mark O'boy

can i connect them using a simple cable?
can u give me a link on the internet to one?

Answer
just split your input signal so it can go to both.

you can get them at walmart

I would like to connect my TV and computer to the same speaker system, and switch between them at will. Can I do this somewhat cheaply? I don't need 5.1 sound, an inexpensive 2.1 system would be fine, I just want to make sure I can switch between 2 inputs.

Answer
A simple RCA A/V switch will work fine - you may need some adapters depending on what inputs and speakers you are using:

Just use the red/white audio jacks - leave the yellow video unconnected.

I need a surround sound entertainment system?

I'm looking for a surround system that can be used with a computer and tv. At least one subwoofer, doesnt have to have a blue ray player, and at least 2 wireless speakers (although looking for something completely wireless. Any suggestions?

Answer
I don't recommend completely wireless systems. Convenient, yes, but you loose sound quality, so no more than 2 wireless (normally the rears). I also do not recommend buying sets with a built in player whether it be dvd or blueray. Players often mess up for one reason or another and you end up having to hook up a seperate new one eventually and lets hope you have the hookups available on back of the system to support this at all. Do you know much about receivers? They have a multitude of plugs in the back to support composite (red white yellow) component (red white yellow blue green), hdmi, etc. So you can hook up any sort of player to it you wish and change things around. You can go to places like best buy and either spend a chunk more by building your system (pick out the receiver, and what speakers you want) or you can just buy one of the already packaged sets I want to say for under 150 for sure. If you went the receiver route, yamaha is good quality for decent price. Keep in mind you get what you pay for so if you go really cheap, it may crap out on you much much sooner. Unfortunately the systems i'm talking about are fully wired. Ugh if i had to recommend a prepackaged surround sound sytem with rear wireless (inevitably they all have built in players at this range), i'd say go with samsung or sony. Pretty equal in quality.

How to make surround sound wireless?

KSUSCOTT

I have an older 2006 Yamaha Surround sound system and I am finally hooking it up to my new TV. Right now everything I have is controlled from my iPad remote app but I cant firgure out how to hook my surround system to it. Can you buy wireless adapters for it. If there is another remote or something I will buy it I just dont want to get a new system but this one is just fine.

Answer
No, you need to power the speakers, they do make rca to wireless transmitters (http://www.meritline.com/wireless-rca-video-audio-transmitter-receiver-2w---p-70241.aspx?source=fghdac) but that won't work unless your rear speakers have an integrated amp. You could buy a separate amp for the rears and then use some form of wireless transmitter but in the end it'd cost more than buying a new home theater system with wireless surround speakers.

Sorry, just being honest.

Try running speaker wire up through the ceiling or wall or run it along the wall the rears. Use paintable speaker wire and you could almost make the wires invisible: http://www.summitsource.com/product_info.php?ref=1&products_id=4765

Best of luck!

Well, soon enough i'm gonna buy some pc (gaming pc) what is the best specs for a faster and better performance for a gaming pc? Enough to play (Bioshock series, The sims 3, Grand theft auto IV, and some high-end games) Need Your opinion :)

Answer
To make sure you've got a more or less future-proof computer, you'd want to go with:

- an i5 2500K
- a good Asus or AsRock P67 motherboard
- at least 4GB of DDR3 RAM
- an ATI HD6970 or NVidia GTX560ti core 448
- a decent brand "80plus" 600 watt power supply
- an SSD for the operating system and a 2TB sata 600 HDD for data storage
- a DVD/BluRay burner
- a decent brand 24" monitor for 1920x1080 gaming
- some nice quality speakers like the Logitech Z5500
- Logitech G19 keyboard with an MX518 mouse

The above will tackle anything in Ultra settings, except Battlefield 3 and Metro 2033, which would run in medium to high settings...

what is the highest end configuration u recommend to play any game now a days?dont mind the budget?

Answer
Well, the most demanding games out there today are games like Crysis and Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Those games make even pretty fancy gaming rigs work pretty hard. The specs for Crysis include Windows Vista (if you want to take advantage of the enhanced abilities of Direct X 10) or Windows XP with service pack 2; 3.2 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor (if running Vista) or a 2.8 GHZ Intel Pentium 4 processor (if running XP); 2.5 GB of hard disk space (if running Vista) or 1.0 GB (if running XP) and an Nvidia Geforce 6800 GT or greater or an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro or greater. If you go with dual core processors, the game requires at least a 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo proc for XP and a 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo proc for Vista. Of course, you could go the AMD Athalon route instead as long as the specs are comparable. The game info lists the AMD Athlon 2800+ for XP and the 3200+ for Vista.

I would highly recommend exceeding these system specs by as much as you can. I run Crysis on the "mainstream" setting for all attributes at a resolution of 800 X 600 and I get more or less smooth framerates except when there is a lot on the screen. The game doesn't look as good as it could at these settings, but I go more for smooth gameplay than pretty pictures. My system specs are Windows XP; 3.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo; 2 GB of RAM; currently 10 GB of free HD space and an Nvidia Geforce 8600 GT with 512 MB of RAM built in. If you can exceed these specs, you'll be able to play the majority of the new games today with no problem. With these specs, I can play less demanding games like Unreal Tournament III, Battlefield 2 etc. with all the graphics turned up on their highest levels and still have smooth framerates.

Hello and thank you for answering my question. I have a speaker system but no connections to my computer or anything, just wires, so is there any way that I could connect it to another device such as an Mp3 or laptop.
Thanks

Answer
only way this will work is if you have a stereo or a power source for the speakers. The computer will not provide enuf power to make them loud or work at all. You get a decent pair of headphones. Like ten dollar pair not even. The headphone wires should be at least twice as thick as ipod ear bud wires. You cut the headphone wires as close to the headphones as possible. Strip them about an inch. There mite two sets of wires in one rubber casing. Separate them and leave the inner cased wire alone (if there is one). Now get audio jacks(red and white kind). How ever long you need to reach your stero from your computer. If you have those types of jacks on it. Then plug in the headphone jack to your comp turn stero on put wires together. If you need more help check out a tec sit they sometimes help. If you have direct wire input to the stereo just go to radio shack and get a set of speaker wires. Not that much money will be spent. Hope I could help.

Is it possible to blow the stereo in a car?

Nathan V

I have a 2010 Civic coupe with a 350 watt, 7 speaker system. Is it possible to overload it and damage it? If so, how much would it take?

Answer
its pretty uncommon, stereos have fuses on them that blow. you just have to change a 40 cent fuse if that ever happens

When I went to India, this couple brought over about five too many laptops. It was more a matter of bribing the people at the India airport than anything else. Technically, I believe it's illegal to bring over too much paper money or electronics... but I could be wrong.

Why are speaker stands and mounts used for home theatre Systems nowadays in India?

Prashant D

I found most people nowadays prefer using speaker wall mounts or speaker stands. Is that a new fad or something?

Answer
Ofcourse not a fad. It is meant for certain advantages like in home theatre mounts if they are tilt/swivel, they give you the advantage of positioning the speakers at the desired angle.

Similarly Stands also give the advantage of placing your speakers anywhere in the room. It also gives the advantage of height adjustment, so that you have your home theatre speakers positioned at your ear listening level.

In India you will find imported products for stands and mounts on ebay.

Tono Systems the Indian company makes them at affordable prices.
