does any body know what a typical sixties nightclub/disco was like?

Isabelle

What was it look like furniture wise, did they have that cool mulitcoloured checked flashy floor thing,DJ,bar, ect?

Answer
Disco Bars were mid to late 70's dependent on your location . Sixties Nightclubs still has plush comfortable chairs, often wood or flock wallpaper. Sixties Clubs were often like a hole in the ground with little or no air, sweating brick walls, and heaving mass of bodies - Dancing. In many cellar clubs Drink was non alcoholic.
Live Beat Groups were the Sounds of the Clubs with the latest imports played by trend setting DJs on the Sound System which had a Bass Speaker set up designed to get the walls to shake. A UV light was the attraction with a follow spot if space allowed and any flashing lights were a had operating the switch.
In the Night Clubs music was supplied by a single pianist to a full Dance Band dependent on size and status but never lighting other than soft, romantic and flattering.
Disco had the first of the Lighting Control Boxes and Sequencers the old Moving lights prior to that were from Slide Projectors and Slides with Different Inks Projected { Early Pink Floyd were the Masters}
So which do you need the info on . The 60,s Beatles, Stones, Yardbirds, Animals from Uk
or The Disco days as per Saturday Night Fever

I have no idea on what PA system to buy?

Will

So my band is getting ready to play some gigs and record, but we have no idea what we need (I'm a guitar player). I know we need a PA System, but do we need a mixer? What is it used for? How do I set it up? Can I get a loud, and cheap, one at guitar center? How many speakers does the PA need? Just tell me everything...like I said, I'm a guitar player.

Answer
Ok.....this may take some explaining.
a lot depends on what style of music you play, how many members in the band, how many sing, how big a venue you will be playing. Then you have what kind of recording are you talking? live recording (which means you need at least an 8 channel multitrack recorder) or recording is separate from your need for a PA?
Whew LOL

Now, for small to medium venues like nightclubs, you will find that you really don't need to turn your amps up very high.
In most venues, our guitar amps never got much above 4 on the volume pot.
Any more makes it uncomfortable for patrons and is just too loud.

We used a small portable PA. since we only mic'ed the lead guitarist(he was the boss and the band was named after him), my lead vocal mic, the keyboard players mic and the conga player had 2 mics.
I think we had a 6 channel PA. The PA head itself actually is a kind of sound mixer.

The only reason to use a sound mixer board is in a large venue. The stage amps actually are not too loud. All amps and the drums would be mic'ed up and then the main PA system actually is the main volume source. then a sound engineer will mix the output for the best sound.
If you play a venue that needs a sound board, the club itself will have one for you to use.

So, really, if all you are doing is clubs, parties, etc....then all you need is a 4 or 6 channel PA. Depending on how many vocalists you have.
This one for instance, would be more than enough for most needs
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Phonic-Powerpod-620-Plus---S712-PA-Package-630487-i1395801.gc
six channels on that one.

If you want to record live, then you can use a 8 channel multitrack recorder, Use the PA and the line out for each channel you use to the recorder and then stage mic the drums and amplifiers. Set a baseline recording volume for all channels. Later you can mix the recorded tracks and raise or lower volumes for individual instruments or singers.

Before you play, test all your vocal mics and adjust the volumes. Have each person test his own mic, so you can adjust for each person's level. Usually you want to speak loudly say 3-6 inches from the mic so that you don't have to eat the microphone when you sing. Set the volume on the PA loud enough to be heard clearly, but not distort.

The 2 speakers are enough. you shouldn't need stage monitors if you have the PA set up right.
Basically, if the singer can hear himself over the music while playing, then it's more than enough for the audience to hear the vocals clearly, so he doesn't have to shout and overmodulate so that he can sing naturally.
The worst thing you can do is have an amp war onstage with the guitarists.

I was in a band in the late 70's where me and the other guitarist had matching 200 w Peavey stacks.
But our PA was a pimpy little 100w system from the mid 70's with like 4 8-inch oval speakers in each 5 foot long box. Made for school speeches and things like that, not for a loud hard rock band.
As the gigs or rehearsals went on, each guitarist would fiddle with his volume to be heard better. Then the other guitarist would turn HIS amp up to balance it out, and so on....By the end of the night our 200 watt amps were at 7, and the poor lead vocalist was screaming into the mic, and you could barely hear him and it was horribly distorted.

So....for most clubs you just need a decent PA 100watt 4 channel minimum, 2 speakers and mics and mic stands. Guitarists should use boom stands. Or one like the link above.

You can get one at GC for $200-300 that will be good enough.
Don't worry about the gear whores on here that will try to tell you to spend way too much money for something you really wouldn't need.

For an example of how it sounds with a similar PA set up and a vocal mic and the guitarist mic'ed up, check out this live recording from a band I was in. I did the sound setup. The recording is in the middle of a nightclub using a video camera's onboard stereo mic. no mixing or processing. It's primitive recording but gives you a good idea of proper PA sound.

I have a set of 2 alpine sps-610s (RMS-80W), 2 alpine sps-619 (RMS-85), an alpine swe-1304 sub (RMS-250W), a pioneer deh-1300mp head unit, and a mtx rt-604 amp (4ohm-60Wx4, 180Wx2).
I was gonna power the front speakers with 2 channels and the sub with the other. Would this be wise? Any suggestions for the system cuz i didn't buy yet. The price i'm paying for all this is $430 brand new.

BEST portable speaker system?

Hockey16.J

We all know theres some good speaker systems out there, Im talking about an amazing seaker system that i can blast with a good bass in it and its portable.. anybody know of one wich speakers wont blow? websites..prices?

Answer
Philips SBA1500/37 portable speaker system are a great little set. I can plug them into my laptop in the livingroom and hear great quality sound while I am out on my patio. I actually turned them down because I thought I might be annoying the neighbors. People have complained that there is no AC plug - only a battery. Not a problem if you use rechargeable batteries with the speaker set.

what are some good home theater/speaker system brands for money?

Garrett

I'm in college, and don't have much to spend. I basically want some speakers i can hook up to my tv and also bump some music on. I see good deals on MA audio, but i read it's not very good.

Answer
First off, you are not going to be able to connect any speakers to a tv. The only audio output the tv has is through an optical audio port. This is a digital signal that is encoded by a Dolby Digital and needs to be decoded by a multi channel receiver, home theater in a box with an optical audio input or a sound bar. By staying with name brands like Definitive Technology, Energy, JBL, Infinity, Klipsch and Polk audio you would get good clean sound. I do recommend you demo any speakers first and let your own ears be the judge. Hope this will help you out.

Speaker wiring question?

Q. so i have a sony hifi system with a 6 ohm amplifier. the speakers that came with it are obviously 6 ohms....there wasnt enough bass so i purchased a pair of 8ohm dj woofers, because i know that if u have a higher number of ohms you can use it no problem on a lower number ohm amp. anyway, i was wondering if i could have the 6 ohm stock speaker and the 8ohm dj speaker running out of the same terminal. i was doing some research and i found out about parallel speaker wiring, and it changed the resistance of the speakers or something. ANYWAY i was wondering if it is okay to wire an 8ohm and a 6ohm speaker in the same terminal or if i have to spend even more money and get a separate amplifier

Answer
>system with a 6 ohm amplifier< Amplifiers do not have resistance, at least not in the aspect to which you are referring. Amplifiers will have a rating of what speaker impedance they will tolerate. Usually an amplifier will tolerate a range of nominal speaker impedances, for example 4 to 16 Ohms.
> i was doing some research and i found out about parallel speaker wiring, and it changed the resistance of the speakers or something.< It doesn't change the resistance of the speaker, it changes the combined impedance as perceived by the amplifier. Parallel wiring of two identical loads will half the value. For example 8 Ohm + 8 Ohm = 4 Ohms. Series wiring will double it. For example 8 Ohms + 8 Ohms = 16 Ohms. Amplifiers will generally tolerate higher impedance numbers better than lower impedance numbers. If you simply unhooked the wires at the speaker and twisted them together, this would be 0 Ohms and your amplifier would either destroy itself or engage the protection circuit. In your case, wiring your 6 and 8 Ohm speakers together in parallel will result in Approx. 3.5 Ohms. Wiring in series will result in 14 Ohms. As you can see parallel wiring is unacceptable for your Sony receiver. It would probably trigger the protection circuit if you turned up the volume loud enough to do what you bought these speakers for in the first place. However, if you wired them in a series resulting in 14c Ohms, it would decrease the available amount of power the receiver would be able to deliver to these speakers. That's just the way amplifiers work. The higher the impedance, the fewer watts they will deliver.
>so i purchased a pair of 8ohm dj woofers< Just the woofers, or are you talking about a complete speaker with an enclosure? Do not assume that a pair of bare naked woofers will produce any bass at all. An enclosure is required. It is not just there for cosmetic purposes. I also question your choice of DJ speakers for this use, enclosure or no enclosure. Why didn't you just buy a conventional subwoofer like everyone else? There is a reason why these things are so popular. They have a built in amplifier and thus require no effort from your receiver's power amplifier. Even if you don't have a "sub out" on your receiver, many subwoofers come with speaker level inputs that you can simply hook up to the speaker outputs on the receiver. This kind of connection will also draw no power from your receiver despite being hooked up to the speaker outputs. It will sound a lot better than DJ speakers which are not exactly built for high fidelity sound - more for brute, large room filling power and they don't produce much deep bass either particularly when compared to a high quality subwoofer - it's more like boomy mid bass, the kind that makes people want to get up and shake their booty to - that's what DJs want. Were I you, I'd return these DJ woofers and buy a decent, conventional home audio subwoofer. You will get a lot better results and stand much less of a chance of blowing up your receiver.

What is the speaker system or docking station for an MP3/MP4 player?

9354

It is NOT an ipod that I have, but I want to get something to play the music out loud with instead of having it plugged into the computer all of the time. Any suggestions on which kind and where to get it will help!

Answer
You can get a cheap set of computer speakers and connect them to the headphone jack on your MP3 player. It won't charge your player or do anything fancy, but it's far more portable than your computer. I have two sets that I bought for $6 each at Big Lots, but general merchandisers like Target or Wal-Mart will probably sell cheap speakers, too.

You get the best quality sound by turning up the volume control on the MP3 player as loud as it will go and then adjusting the volume on the speakers to the level you want. Just remember to change the volume back to a lower level before using headphones again. If you have the volume low on the player and high on the speakers, you're just amplifying a weak signal and it will sound like crap.

Make sure that you get speakers that use either batteries or plug into the wall. Speakers that don't need batteries or electricity will not be very loud or sound very good.

What would be the best portable ipod dock/speakers for a small-medium park?

misha roge

I am looking for ipod portable speakers/ dock that would be good for a small-medium sized park/ grass area. I would like it to be loud, but also clear.
Thanks

Answer
No portable speaker system/dock has anywhere near
the output required for an outdoor area that large.

You will be sorely disappointed with the results
no matter which one you try to use for such a purpose.

What you need is a PA system that consists of a fairly powerful amplifier
(probably not less than 100, and maybe as much as 300, watts per channel)
and good-sized sound reinforcement speakers.
In sufficiently populous areas, such a system can be rented
from a local stage-sound-and-lighting shop.

Of course, a sound system requires a power source.
If the park has no electrical service for the public, you'd also need a generator.
[An inverter won't do the job properly.]

Looking for a good 2.1 speaker system?

Lili DeRoc

So I'm looking for a 2.1 speaker system for my computer. I typically listen to a lot of EDM, and dub step music. I've been looking around and so far I'm considering these ones: http://www.amazon.com/Cyber-Acoustics-Subwoofer-Satellite-CA-3602a/dp/B0027VT6V4/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=8428RMKBD4LI&coliid=I2EQEEMSBGGTDX

I've read a lot of good reviews about it, but I'm still skeptical. So if anyone could suggest a good 2.1 speaker system, that'd be great!

Try Altec Lansing's speakers. They're really good and reputed. Visit their website http://www.alteclansing.com

Questions about iPhone 5 adapters?

Kimberly

I'm going to be purchasing an iPhone 5 and I have a few questions regarding the adapters for docks and whatnot... I currently have an ilive speaker docking system to play music and charge my device. If I purchased an adapter, would it still work the same as with the old devices? As in, would the remote work, would it charge the iPhone, would it play music as well, etc. Also, could you suggest what kind of adapter to buy with these things in mind? thanks so much

Answer
Pretty much anything that connects to an iPod touch etc. Will charge your iPhone. Your ilive should charge it as well. Hope that answers your question .

Looking for a new Speaker system?

Ben Balke

Hi, I'm looking to buy a new speaker system just to listen to music from my iphone 5. I don't listen to music at home purely because I don't have any speakers.

My budget is under $100, so I'm not looking for anything massive. But I am looking for something with a subwoofer that can deliver the best bass possible for that price, without skimping out on the other speakers which play the highs/mids. It only needs to make a 10'X10' room sound awesome.

They would be used for a lot of rap and heavy bass electronic music (Don't judge my music tastes).

Like I said, I'm not expecting an amazing speaker system. But just something that will last a long time with no issues that has good bass and good highs/mids. I'm not really looking for my house to shake, but things falling off the shelf would be nice. Thanks for any help you can provide, because I have no idea what I'm doing!

Answer
Total price $116, not including shipping:

Creative Inspire T12 2.0 powered speakers, $45,

http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Inspire-T12-Multimedia-Technology/dp/B0028N6YH0/

Monoprice 8248, 8 Inch 60-Watt powered subwoofer, $54.69,

http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=109&cp_id=10906&cs_id=1090602&p_id=8248

Radio Shack 42-2570, 1/8" stereo y-adapter, $7.99,

SCOSCHE I6RCA35A, 3.5mm Stereo to 2 RCA adapter cable, $8.25,

http://www.ebay.com/itm/360798522456

That's about the best you'll do with $100. It's a pretty ordinary pair of computer speakers, but then you patch in a small powered subwoofer to play with.

Both devices should be compatible with splitting the signal one time, though you'll need to nudge the volume controls higher (which may increase noise).

Can you please recommend some quality computer speakers to me?

stabbingas

My monitor has speakers attached to it but they do not exactly emit quality sound. I'm having a hard time deciding which speakers to purchase and which brand I should trust. I saw the Logitech X-240 at Best Buy but it got OK reviews from various websites I visited. What would you pick? I'm trying to stay at least below $100.00
Thanks for any info you can give me.

Answer
So, you are looking for a computer speaker system.

If you really want to listen to quality music, I wouldn't go with the Logitech X-240. It is a very weak and low-end speaker system. I wouldn't buy a speaker system directly from a store since the prices are usually 20-30% higher as they have to meet their high costs.

Speakers are something we don't buy that often. Good you are doing some research, reading reviews, and asking for opinions in order to make a right purchase. The quality of sound is very important especially if you like listening music.

I recently got this Logitech speaker system for about $100.

I found the deal at http://www.dealjuggler.com/Logitech-Z-Cinema-Advanced-USB-Surround-Sound-System---Only-$79.99.html
I believe the sale is through Compusa.

I don't know why they are selling it so cheap. It might be a website error. When I compared the price to other stores, it is sold for over $220. The list price on it is $299.99. Compusa does charge about $30 for shipping, which brings the final cost to $110.

The speaker system is awesome. The clarity of sound is unbelievable. I got it before the price changes.

The total power of Logitech X-240 is only 50 Watts, the total power of the system I recommend has 180 watts. It comes with a remote control.

Read some reviews on some websites. Buy.com has some good reviews: http://www.buy.com/prod/logitech-z-cinema-advanced-surround-sound-system-logitech-z-cin-ma/q/loc/111/207324170.html
They are selling it for $236.26 however.

Hope the above was helpful,

Enjoy...

Could i use an old speaker system in my car?

Day

I have an old set of speakers that are about 6" from an old hi fi which were pretty good speakers, and i was wondering whether i could either use them in my car as actual speakers (obviously change the connectors) or whether i could box them and turn them into a sort of sealed bass box?
Sorry if it sounds stupid, but i'm a bit of a noob when it comes to speakers an electronics, so any extra help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer
yes although they wont last as long as car speakers they will work

car speaker system help?

Q. i have no clue what to put in i want alot of bass so i can be heard coming down the street but not so much that i cant hear the song and im willing to spend around 150-200 smackaroos

Answer
You won't really get large bass from speakers, b/c the woofer itself is not large enough to reproduce the low frequency end of the system. You can get decent bass with Kicker or Alpine, but you'll want to get a sub or two if you want a full-spectrum system.

In car audio, you get what you pay for. If you buy a crappy Boss stereo instead of an Alpine or Pioneer stereo, you'll probably be sending the Boss stereo in for warranty issues.

Brands that are good for the following categories are:

Amp: Top 5: Rockford Fosgate, Hifonics, Alpine, Kicker, Infinity.
Honorable Mentions: Kicker, Polk Audio, Boston Acoustics, Pioneer.

Speaker: Top 5: Focal, Rockford Fosgate, Kicker, Infinity, Alpine.
Honorable Mentions: Boston Acoustics, Kenwood, Hifonics, Polk Audio, JL.

Subwoofer: Top 5: Fi, Alpine, Kicker, Rockford Fosgate, Pioneer Premier.
Honorable Mentions: Hifonics, Infinity, Kenwood, Pioneer (Basic Pioneer).

OEM Processors: Rockford Fosgate 360.2 Processor
On a Budget: Hifonics Processors.

Wire: Kicker and Rockford Fosgate.
Also, stick with name brand companies that follow the AWG system.

Head Unit: Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood.

The only place I recommend to buy any of these products are Crutchfield.com and the actual company's homepage that makes the products so you can get your warranty with the product.

When you upgrade anything in your system, it's best to upgrade everything, because every component will compliment each other to make the best sounding system.

--------------------------------------â¦

A rule of thumb when designing a custom system is that when you add (a) subwoofer(s) you need to follow the following formula when going for SQ (Sound Quality) instead of SPL (Sound Pressure Level): Total RMS (Root Mean Squared OR Constant Wattage) of all speakers should be double to figure the RMS that the subs should be. i.e. If you have a 4-speaker system that has 50w RMS per speaker, then you'd 50 x 4 giving you 200. Then take 200 x 2 which gives you 400. That means that your system should have a subwoofer(s) with 400w RMS.

If you need any help just e-mail if you need help!!!
You can do all this on your own. I can give you links to diagrams that I've made to help you install your system and if you order from Crutchfield.com (which I highly recommend) they'll send you a Master Sheet with everything on it.

If you go to Crutchfield.com you can click on "Outfit My Car" and enter your car's info, then Crutchfield will show you all the products that will fit/work with your car.
Good luck!

are 4 way speakers better than 3 way or 2 way speakers?

.

Is there a such as a 1 way speaker?

Answer
More doesn't always mean better. It's just methods used by engineers to produce sound. For example a well designed 2-way sounds better than a crappy 4-way.

A well designed 3-way and up can go louder until distortion, can offer installation flexibility, etc. But they are complex, expensive and harder to do correctly. Most 3-4way car speakers are low quality shit but they still make 'em 'cuz people are suckered to thinking more is better.

A "1 way" speaker system is a full-range single driver speaker. It's just one driver making most of the sound from the lows to the highs. Drivers that can do this are referred to as extended range driver, wide range driver, or a full-range single driver, etc.

It's hard to make a single driver speaker that sounds good and plays loud. It's easier to split the audio frequencies to dedicated drivers so the each driver don't work as hard. ex: Subs play bass, woofers play midbass to midrange, tweeters play the highs

driver - is a single speaker/transducer. ex: a tweeter, woofer, subwoofer, etc.. In other words just the single speaker by itself.

would 2 way speakers work with a component system?

Jesse

if i replace my stock front door speakers i want to get these or something similar ---> http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-TS-G1342R-5-25-Inch-140-Watt-Speaker/dp/B0012GFP7O/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1283658693&sr=1-5

the stock speaker has a component system (monsoon) with tweeters, would the tweeters work correctly if i installed 2 way speakers or would i just have to leave the old tweeters disconnected?
or any other advice

Answer
you would get a very bright sound with two tweeters connected . plus the impedance would be too low for the system. Leave them unconnected.

Good Computer Speakers plus Subwoofer?

Peter C

I am Looking for a new computer sound system with a powerful sub woofer along with quality speakers, just wondering if anyone could suggest a good system

Answer
I guess it all depends on how you define "good sound". There are no computer speakers I would call "good" or "powerful". Your best sound will come from separate component sound systems with a receiver, speaker system, and separate sub-woofer. HTIB (home theater in a box) systems don't measure up to separates nor are they as versatile as separates. The worst systems are "computer" speakers which are frequently toy quality.

Sure Logitech makes some half way listenable speakers and so does Creative. But neither of them will measure up to even the cheapest of separate component systems.

Now on to sub-woofers. The best subs are made by companies that specialize in subs. Also in order to create low bass frequencies you have to move a lot of air. This is physics and there is no way around it. Unless you get into some VERY expensive equipment you won't get good bass from anything smaller than a 12" speaker. Those tiny 6" or 8" speakers that come with most systems can't even get within an octave of real bass. This is how Bose pretends to sound so good. Bose gives you too much bass an octave or two up to try to make up for a total lack of any real bass at all. (Bose does the same thing on the high end too.) Hsu Technology and SVSound are two companies that make a quality product that will actually do what they say it will do.

I would suggest you read up on some of the AV forums and learn all you can about equipment. AVS forum and the Home Theater Shack are two good choices. So are the many audio or AV mag web sites but keep in mind they are supported by advertising. The forums are truly independent sources.

Computer Speakers with Subwoofer?

jeg2315

My current computer speakers and subwoofer have recently given out and don't work any more. Now, I'm looking to replace them with some computer speakers that come with a subwoofer.

I don't want to spend too much on them - probably under $40 or so. I will be using them for normal things - music and gaming. Of course, I like bass, so the sound has to be decent.

So, I would like to ask for any suggestions any of you may have as to which speaker/subwoofer sets I should consider in my price range. Thanks in advance!

Answer
If you want to buy computer speakers with subwoofer under $40, I would highly recommend you to go for the model Creative Inspire 2400. It's cost is $39.99 and is worth it. It has high quality bass surround sound excellent for music and gaming.

Features:
Ultra strong bass, crispy trebles, can be hanged on the wall, compact subwoofer, quality, ergonomic remote control and performance to price ratio.

If you are looking for speakers that have a much greater flexibility, the Creative Inspire 2400 speaker system might be the speakers you¡¦re waiting for.

Creative Inspire 2400 gives you the flexibility to mount the speakers on the wall for saving premium desktop space. This is all thanks to the dedicated volume remote control that can be mounted on any flat surface, especially above their computer case. But what I found with the remote control is that you have to scroll up, in order to lower the volume. This means that the volume controller is reversed as a result.

By J.SC "J.SC" (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews
These speakers give much better sound than my old pair of speakers. They also look much better than just about any multimedia speaker out there. Of course, they cost more too. If you are looking for a good sounding, sharp designed set of speakers and can afford the $150-$200 price, get these. If these cost too much, but you still want something unique looking, try the JBL Creature II speaker set. It ranges $60 - $100.

A few things you cannot tell from the product description:
> These speakers (Soundstick II) are compatible with PCs. The original Soundsticks were only for Apples.
> The casing, though plastic, is very solid. I can't tell how scratch resistant it is though. I have not tried to scratch them yet...
> The subwoofer has a bass adjust knob.
> One of the satellite speakers has a touch volume control.
> The system does not have an on/off button. It designed to stay on all the time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Everything sounds perfect except metal stuff......, January 1, 2005

I set up my Soundstick in my bed room.. not with the computer, but with my iPod, I tried them with my iPod at various stores before I bought them. they sound much better than the JBL Creature 2, so if you are choosing between the two, you don't have to, go buy the Soundstick 2.

they are strongly built, very soild, they sound a little stiff brand new, but, you know, that's normal for audio speakers, especially the sub. I run them at low volume for few hours and they start singing right there, I put the satellites on the table top, about 2 feet from each other, and the sub under the table, have a lot of definition and "width" from the two tiny, and with the bass boost twist at the back of the sub, you'll be amazed how easy the balanced tone can be adjusted, and they sound very soild even in very low volume,

I tried pop stuff like Michelle Branch, Clay Aiken, sound very clean, and have a very good definition, jazz greats like Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, every instruments sound so distinct, and bands like Maroon 5, My Chemical Romance(it's esp good on trying stereophonic), Story of the Year, or even bit heavier Blink, or the D'n'B 4Hero, the Soundstick 2 still provide very good spectrum of different freq inside small area like my bedroom, thing like bassline and bass drum are audible and solid, yet highs like hihat and cymbal are clean but not ping, the overall performance is excellent, considering the price and size of the unit.

but when I turn to a even heavier side, like Pantera, Slayer, or Soilwork, Mnemic or Shadows Fall, those fast double bass rumbles are still audible, very clean, but even i boost the bass a little bit more, it still do not have enough power and air to be felt, i 'm not talking about that kinda floor shaking storm, but just not enough "heaviness", but i think it's partly due to the fact that I connected the Soundstick directly to the iPod dock.

Cons?! i'd be happier if the bass adjust knob is placed at the front of the sub, but not the back, so i can hear the difference in tone while i'm adjusting, without leaning real close to the sub, which on and off gave me the illusion of excessive bass. And they don't have any kind of indication on peak or threshold volume-wise, the touch volume control is good to use, but very often i'm worrying about if i would peak the system by turning too loud, especailly back when it's brand new.

I'd recommend everyone buying one of this for small room use, the Soundstick sound really great, and combine with artistic design, the blue LED is really a thoughtful attraction, which really add points for anyone who want their system to be more than ordinary audio speakers, but a feelie as well.

What's the best speaker system for the iPod nano?

Q. I have a few of the cheap $10-20 portable speakers, but they sound so crappy and so distorted. I have been researching, and the Bose sound dock is what I want, but more than I want to spend. I read reviews on the Altec Lansing im7 and the Logitech mm50, and they too are a lot of money - I am wondering if anyone has these, if they REALLY sound good, maybe I'll spend it, but I can't find a store that will let me listen to them. Can anyone tell me? I want one that will fit the nano properly and charge it as well, while still being somewhat portable.
So at an apple store they will let you listen to all the speakers live in person? Great, I tried at target and best buy, and no luck- maybe I just need to find an apple store?

Answer
You can sample a wide variety of speakers at an Apple store. The Bose system is definetly worth the money. I have the JBL OnStage Speakers with dock and they work great. It's very portable too. I use the AUX cord it came with to attach it to my computer so it doubles as computer speakers. And it comes with these changeable plastic frame pieces so any iPod, even the nano, will have a perfect fit. Which ever system you purchase, just read it to find if the dock will also charge your nano.

Logitech Speaker System Z523?

Ashley

I recently bought the Z523 speaker system. Does anyone know how I can get both speakers to work properly. The problem with the speakers is that sometimes only one of the speakers produce sound and the other one doesn't. I usually have to turn around the green cord while its plugged in my pc and listen until both speakers produce sound. I was wondering if someone has any ideas on how I can resolve this issue.

Answer
Sounds like your audio port may be the problem. Test the port with a pair of headphones, if it behaves the same way, the problem is with the port. If not, then the speaker plug may be at fault.

Total price $116, not including shipping:

Creative Inspire T12 2.0 powered speakers, $45,

Monoprice 8248, 8 Inch 60-Watt powered subwoofer, $54.69,

Radio Shack 42-2570, 1/8" stereo y-adapter, $7.99,

SCOSCHE I6RCA35A, 3.5mm Stereo to 2 RCA adapter cable, $8.25,

That's about the best you'll do with $100. It's a pretty ordinary pair of computer speakers, but then you patch in a small powered subwoofer to play with.

Both devices should be compatible with splitting the signal one time, though you'll need to nudge the volume controls higher (which may increase noise).
