I really love bass and my internal mac speakers give very little bass so i want some decent speakers.
I dont want you to mention the most expensive ones, id rather you gave like the 3 best value ones please.
Thanks so much in advance.

Answer
I would recommend the Audioengine 2. They're powered speakers so do not need an amp, they're small but sound BIG, and they're available in white for Mac people...

I've had a pair for a year or so for use in my office when I'm working from home, and I still get surprised at how good they sound for the size and cost ($200)

How can I stream System Audio from my mac?

Blacky

I'm trying to stream movies and games and such, but I can't figure out how to stream the system audio from the Mac.
Any programs or anything I can use?

Also, I usually stream on Livestream.

Answer
If you talking about recording just what is coming out of your speakers, you can do that by downloading this application called soundflower. This allows you to set the computer to, hear itself. Just make sure you set the audio input and output to the same value. This way you just use any audio recording software and record sound that way.

The sound from my rear (wireless) speakers are too low. It's the same case even for 5.1 supported sounds. How can I bump up the sound level of my rear speakers. I read somewhere a few months ago that you can adjust the volume of each speaker separately in this home theater system but cannot find any settings for that. Any help will be appreciated..

Thanks.

Answer
Go to speaker level settings on system menu.

Monster Beat box or audioengine 5 speakers?

century81

I want a speaker system for my new apartment that I can play an ipod out of. The beatbox is an actual ipod speaker dock. The audioengine 5 speakers can be connected to your ipod or computer. Has anyone owned either? I have read that they both sound amazing, I just wanna hear from someone what their input is.

Answer
I haven't owned either. I can tell you this. The beatbox will not give you the stereo separation of Audioengine 5 speakers, if for no other reason, one box is sufficiently challenged to do produce a dynamic sound stage. If you closed your eyes I doubt you can really go wrong. However, my money would be on the Audioengine 5. I think Audioengine is the better company with the better product.

Best.

I am looking for a micro-system that has iPod docking and Hi-Fi capabilities. Thanks 4 responses and links.?

Gregory S

I need a simple speaker/micro system to connect my ipod and LCD Phillips to. Any help is greatly appreciated. Bose? JBL? Not sure if the Hi-Fi is included in standard docking stations. Living in a small french apartment, I do not need alot of sound. Just quality.

Answer
I don't even know what Hi-Fi means, but Bose is over rated and expensive, and JBL is garbage. The best available come from GenevaSound, but they are VERY expensive, and a bit ugly. I like the aesthetics of the SonicIntegrity vacuum-tube based component system, and the sound is miles ahead of anything you'd get out of a Bose or JBL type unit.

What is the best home theatre speaker system?

Stewie's J

Can anyone help me. I want to buy a home theatre speaker system that gives the best sound quality.

Answer
I don't think you mean the absolute best. However what sound you get is dependent on your budget.

A good entry level system can run a few hundred to a couple of thousand dollars.

High end systems can easily reach several hundred thousand.

So really you need to be more specific in your application, budget, expectations,etc.. to really get a good idea of what to get.

How can I hook up more than one device for quick switching on a single speaker system?

I would like to connect my TV and computer to the same speaker system, and switch between them at will. Can I do this somewhat cheaply? I don't need 5.1 sound, an inexpensive 2.1 system would be fine, I just want to make sure I can switch between 2 inputs.

Answer
A simple RCA A/V switch will work fine - you may need some adapters depending on what inputs and speakers you are using:

http://www.amazon.com/RCA-DT902AV-2-Way-V-Switcher/dp/B0014KOAD8/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1314367962&sr=1-1

Just use the red/white audio jacks - leave the yellow video unconnected.

What should I look at when buying a good quality speaker system?

Stephen M

I love my music and listening to it on cheap 2.0 speakers has been fine, but I have a bit of cash now and I want to treat myself to a really great 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker system specifically for my PC and MP3 Player. I have a budget of £45 maybe being able to stretch to £55 for exceptional quality. What I want to know is, what specifications should I look for. I saw one with 1000W output and one with 2000W output. What exactly does this mean and what's a minimum Wattage Output level for exceptional quality.
I'm not naive, I realise that £55 won't get me cutting edge technology, but will it get me something that's really noticably better than 2.0?

I also want it to be able to go pretty loud :P

Answer
For PC, if you have 5.1 sound card, it's OK to buy those speaker, but for MP3, I don't know if they have 5.1 capability. My suggestion are, try it first, better listen at quiet room, since you can differentiate the sound quality between one and other speaker. Good store usually have a special listening room.

Power output are how much power that the speaker can handle, it means the higher value will give you higher sound pressure level. It comes with PMPO (Peak Musical Power Output) or RMS
(Root Mean Square).
PMPO denotes that how much power that amplifier can deliver to speaker on a very short time (peak), while RMS denotes power that can be delivered continuously.
Usually 1000 W are PMPO (unless you buy a high end ones).

Now, it depends on you, but remember to listen it first with your well known songs before you buy. Your ears are the best measurement equipments.

Rega p1 turntable, rega phono preamp, what kind of reciever and speaker will i need to hear the differnce, will i be able to pick it up on a simple htib or how high end do i have to go

Answer
Why compare with MP3?

First check if you can distinguish between CD audio and MP3.

Anybody can distinguish between Vinyl and CD even with the simplest system. For many CD is still better than Vinyl but I suppose if you spend thousands on an audio system you really want to like Vinyl more.

Where can I get a sony turntable and amplifier receiver?

ravensrule

My grandfather is desperately looking for a Sony Turntable set with amplifier receiver. I'm not too familiar with vinyl record players or things of the sort. He also wants to be able to connect Bose speakers to the system. Is there anywhere online or a specific store that would have something like this available? I'm more interested in the Turntable and amplifier receiver than I am in the Bose speakers.

Answer
Turntable you will find in the market today made by Sony are all crap. It is not worth the money. I would recommend you go to Audio Advisor online and they have turntables are are very good. You also need a receiver that has a phono input. Look at a Pioneer or Onkyo receiver, they are the best entry level receiver in the market. Hope this will help you out.

Connecting speaker systems to my ps3 and tv?

MaNgOhFrES

I know absolutely nothing about speaker set up. What speaker systems would be best for playing videogames and viewing tv. I have my ps3 connected by component and well, the cable dude came in and set up the...cable. Where do i start with finding the right speakers and having all the neccessary equipment for properly setting up speakers for tele viewing and to the playstation?

Answer
First you have to decide what kind of system you want and what you're willing to pay.

The basic sound system is stereo, where the left and right audio are played back through left and right speakers through a stereo receiver (radio and stereo amplifier in one unit).

The most basic surround system is a 2.1 system, where you have the left and right stereo speakers (the "2" part) and a powered subwoofer to play the low-frequency effect (LFE) channel sounds (the ".1" part. This is relatively inexpensive, but it's not rue surround sound. The signals are just processed to where you get certain delay components that make it sound like you have surround speakers.

The most common surround system for those with a bit of an expanded budget is a 5.1 surround system, where you have a surround sound receiver, front right/left speakers, a front center channel speaker, and rear right/left surround speakers, as well as a powered subwoofer for the LFE channel. This is available as an all-in-one unit (a surround receiver and set of speakers all in one box) called a home theater in a box, or HTiB. These are the cheaper systems you see for a coupla-few hundred dollars at WalMart.

The next step up is a 5.1 surround receiver and separate speakers (usually by different manufacturers). A decent 5.1 receiver will run you about $350 - $400, while a good set of speakers might be $500 - $600. Yamaha makes a couple of good receivers in this price range. And, Klipsch makes a good set of satellites (Quintet) and subwoofer (SW-10) in this price range that you will be very pleased with.

Manufacturers also make 6.1 and 7.1 surround receivers. But, I think this is overkill, both in price and performance. First, it's going to cost more for the receiver and you need additional speakers for the additional channels. And, most programming only comes in 5.1 at the most, anyway. Synthesized 6.1 and 7.1 is where they take the two rear surrounds of the 5.1 program source and run a monophonic component of that sound to the additional speakers (big whoop). All for an additional $500 to $1000 for the system.

To get the most out of your audio/video system, you would then run the video using an HDMI cable to the TV (to get full 1080p video), and run digital audio through the HDMI cable, or the digital coaxial or optical cable to the receiver (for true surround sound).

Q. I have a Panasonic SC-HT800V DVD/VCR Home Theater Sound system.
I just bought a Samsung Led TV and i was wondering if i can connect the sound system to the TV to make the speakers work for the TV.
I Tried connecting the component cables but only sound that will play is from the DVD or VCR and i cant seem to figure it out

Answer
NO - the box systems are not AV Receivers. They are not designed to take 5.1 sound from outside devices.

You might consider a soundbar connected directly to the Samsung television. Make sure the soundbar accepts Optical and is a 5.1 unit and not a 2.1 unit.

Where is a good place to buy a bose home theatre system?

I'm looking to buy a new bose home theatre system, some good quality speakers, for a good price.. anyone can help me with a URL?

Answer
HOLD UP !!!! DO NOT PURCHASE BOSE

THE NAME TELLS YOU WHAT TO DO

B-BUY
O-OTHER
S-SOUND
E-EQUIPMENT

LET ME TELL YOU A LITTLE ABOUT A COMPANY CALLED BOSE
THERE HORRIBLE

what manufacter focus on marketing than there own product... there systems are designed to operate through the subwoofer and there are proprietary....

ASK ANY AUDIOPHILES

IF you hear the highs and not the lowes it must be bose...

Those systems were designed for one reason... to make you waste your money.

if something goes wrong with the dvd player you gotta get a new system

1 speaker blows = new system

the speakers were designed to be small for a reason, so you dont receive a full range sound out of the speakers.

If your going to do a blu ray player with the surround sound bose does not support the audio formats for blu ray....

AND I WANT YOU TO DO ONE THING IN YOUR SEARCH FOR A BOSE SYSTEM

GOT TO THE DEALERS... CONTACT BOSE THEMSELVES ASK THEM FOR THE FREQUENCY RESPONSE TIME ON THERE SPEAKERS AND SEE THE ANSWER YOU GET...

A GOOD MANUFACTUER WILL LIST THERE FREQUENCY RATING FOR THE SPEAKER SO YOU KNOW HOW LOW THE LOWS ARE IN THE SPEAKER

I WOULD RECOMMEND TAKING A TRIP TO YOUR LOCAL BEST BUY THAT HAS A MAGNOLIA AREA... ASK TO LISTEN TO A SET OF MIRAGE SPEAKERS ALONG WITH THE DENON 2309 RECEIVER... IT WOULD BE RIGHT AROUND THE SAME PRICE IF NOT CHEAPER THAT THE BOSE DEPENDING ON WHICH SYSTEM YOU WERE LOOKING AT ..... AND TRUST ME DONT GO 2.1..... 5.1 OR 7.1 IS THE WAY TO GO NOW

How to wire a sub into a Mazda 6 2004?

speaker system for mazda 6 image
Q. How can I wire a sub into a Mazda 6 2004?
Can anyone help me step by step?

Answer
Honestly it really doesn't matter what car it is, the steps are the same.
The important question. Are there red/white RCA females on the back of your head unit/stereo? If no, you will need a head unit that has those but most already do.
1. Buy subwoofer, amplifier, wiring kit.
2. In the wiring kit will be a positive wire and a negative or ground wire.
3. Connect one end of the positive wire to the positive terminal on your cars battery.
4. Connect the other end into the amplifier.
5. Connect one end of the ground wire to the amplifier.
6. This step may be hard. Say your setup is in the trunk. Lift up the carpets and look for any kind of bolt that screws into the metal frame of the car. Unscrew about 3/4 the way and wrap the other end of the ground wire around the bolt and screw it back down. You must do this so you can have a complete electrical circuit.
7. The wiring kit should include a red/white RCA cable with male plugs on each end.
8. Plug one set into the amp and the other end into the back of your head unit.
9. Using speaker wire, wire the subwoofer to the amplifier.
10. You are done, you should now have a kickin' sound system.

Can subs and everything be wired to a stock car stereo?

So I'm going to be getting a new car soon. It will be a 2010 model.(I'm not sure of the exact model yet but most likely a Fusion or Mazda 6.) I want to get subs, speakers, etc. Most cars now have the buttons on the steering wheel that control the stereo and the stereo's look good in the dash so I'd rather not have to tear it up. Will it work or just sound like crap. I'm hoping there's things you can buy to make it work.

Answer
Yes subwoofer can be add to your factory system. You'll need to get an amp of course for your subs also you'll need an amp kit as well as a hi to low converter to connect the RCA to a factory system.

RX-597

I am planning on getting a home theatre system (5.1 channels), and usually I see "Sale" on the website (e.g one set of speakers had RRP $649 and was reduced to $499).

By the way, I live in Melbourne, Australia.

Please compare these prices to stores such as JB Hi Fi and Harvey Norman etc... Also, please suggest any better stores than those listed above if Sony Style prices are indeed higher, if possible.

Thanks.

Answer
Sony Style, like anything from Sony, is overpriced. Most regular stores mark things down 15-20% off the full manufacturer's price. Sony Style doesn't do this so things are more expensive.

Obviously, Sony Style only carries Sony items, so if you wanted to price compare between different brands, Sony Style shouldn't even be on your list of stores in the first place.

any suggestions are greatly appreciated but i would like to keep the price down to a reasonable amount. <2-hundo.

i know bose can be pretty expensive for what they offer.

Answer
"bose-like" does that mean you want something that is overpriced junk?

All kidding aside. If you are after the best sound quality get a good set of speakers (preferably with a built in Amp). Then connect it to a wireless or bluetooth streaming module.

For the speakers I'd recommend AudioEngine A2 or A5s.

For streaming I'd get an Airport Extreme for your GFs iPhone. If you want bluetooth get one of these

I want to buy some new computer speakers since my old cheap speakers broke and I'm sick of using a gaming headset for music and movies. I am looking to spend around $150-200 on a good speaker system. I am a "semi-audiophile" and I appreciate good sound. I would prefer a system with a good balance of highs, mids, and lows and would rather have a good 2.1 system than a cheap surround sound system. I would prefer a system with a subwoofer, but if there are any that have good bass without one, I am open to it. I don't have a sound card on my computer, but I am open to buying one if it makes a considerable difference. Any help is appreciated.

What computer sound system can you suggest, for a guy who wants to make electronic music?

Arlh

Hey everyone
Christmas is coming up and i wanted to add a few wishes to my wishlist. Does anyone out here have any recommendations for a great computer sound system (speakers and bass). In particular, something that doesnt cost much more than 250£, but still has a kicking bass and top-notch sound quality, if that is even possible.
On a side note, do you have any recommendations for a good midi keyboard?

Answer
You really need to go out and listen for yourself. For everyone that claims that brand x or model y is the best, there is an equal opposite opinion. What some people call deep bass others won't, or they will find it loose or boomy. Since you will be making electronic music through them, they will essentially be part of the instrument, which is probably not a good thing. With electric guitar, the speakers are a big part of the sound, which is why so many guitar plug ins for recording have speaker emulation. You will probably want the speakers as neutral or 'clinical' sounding as possible, to avoid having the sounds dependent on your particular speakers. Also, make sure you look at the issue of durability. You can put out some pretty nasty waveforms digitally, and this can fry high frequency drivers and crossovers in cheaper speakers. Another concern would be what listening environment the speakers will be placed in. Near field monitors are usually not very good at imaging, except in a very tightly defined area. In other words, high frequency beaming means the treble response will drop off if the listener is not right in the sweet spot, where the full range comes through, so these would not make good speakers to fill a room. There's a ton of choices, so your best bet is to stick with speakers sold by music stores, rather than trying to get the most watts for the least money. Of all the websites I've found, http://www.Sweetwater.com has the widest selection, best organization and most thorough descriptions and reviews overall. So, I'd start there and narrow down the choices to something manageable and then search for a couple of more reviews on other sites, and then search for the best price/service deal.

As for a midi keyboard, that depends on what you are looking for: a strict midi controller, a keyboard with built in sound capability, or something with integrated control surface, such as transport controls for start/stop while recording, pads for percussion, etc. Something else to research at Sweetwater.

Whats the difference between the ipod touch 2G and 3G?

I'm getting a 2G because the 3G is too expensive for me. But what is the difference between the two? And also, can the 2G play music without headphones?

Answer
There are some differences between the second generation iPod touch and the third generation iPod touch, primarily related to performance. Both have an external speaker and can play music without headphones. An independent comparison explains all the differences:
http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/consumer_electronics/ipod_faq/differences-between-ipod-touch-3g-and-ipod-touch-2g.html

The 32 GB and 64 GB configurations of the third generation iPod touch also fully support iOS 4, whereas the second generation iPod touch (and 8 GB third generation iPod touch) does not fully support the latest operating system:
http://www.everyipod.com/iphone-faq/iphone-os-4-new-features-supported-iphone-ipod-touch-ipad-price.html

Hope this helps!

I just got a Apple iPhone 3G Dock, but when I connect my iPhone 3G, strange sounds play through the speakers?

Crazy_Man

The Sounds are like a scratching sound, and only play when I have my iPhone on the dock, but stop when a song is playing on the iPhone.

Okay, the dock is connected to my speakers through an elaborate system. Check it:

From the Dock, a 3.5mm headphone extension cable goes to a double headphone adapter to my computer, and then to the other cable on the double headphone adapter to my speakers.

How do I stop the scratching noise on my speakers?

Answer
That scratching noise can be caused by three things:
1. You have a loose connection/worn cable. Check your cables fitting etc. (this is likely your problem)
2. Your music files are extremely low quality and scratching can be heard. Did you buy your songs from iTunes?
3. Your dock is defective. Take it back and exchange it.

logitech x 210 speaker system image

neboobs

I now have a final choice between two 2.1 speaker systems
Logitech S200 AND
Logitech X-210
Please tell me which one should i get and why.
I need answers urgently as i need to buy them soon.

Answer
They are prety much the same so it really down to persona preference, but if it were me id go for the X-210 just because they are of a better quality in terms of sound and the psychical speakers, and because of the RMS wattage they should be a little more powerful and also they have a greater frequency response range.

What are good a/v receivers for home theater system?? ?

speaker system bass reflex image

I have a polk audio powered subwoofer and 2 aiva bass reflex bookshelf speakers. I may buy more speakers in the future. But anyway. Im preferably need a reliable and good receiver under $250. If possible 75 or more watts per channel. I ATLEAST need a 5.1 channel. Please help. Give me any products u have experienced and love tht this criteria. Or just any good company brands. Please anything relevant to the topic on hand.

Answer
I cannot say I know these receivers to be better as a brand compared to Yamaha, they maybe. Within your price range is the Samsung HW-C700, Onkyo TXSR308 5.1 Channel receivers ranging from $218 to $278. I would suggest you look into the Onkyo package. Words are inadequate in expressing the perfection Onkyo provides at an affordable price. Include in your consideration Teac Receivers they have an affordable high value line of gear. Sherwood is an option, but I have not experienced Sherwood, but the price is right. Here is the link for your review.

Best.

How do I know what kind of speakers I have in my home theater?

Jim I

About ten years ago I bought a home theater system from a buddy of mine strapped for cash. I bought a receiver, tape deck, five-disc player with two large speakers.

Large = 20.5"x16"x36". They are carpeted, and have a large hole on the bottom to put a pole up into. There are carrying handles on either side, and the speakers must weigh 70-80 lbs.

The fronts are identical. Vertically, there are two circles with nipples in them (sorry, have no idea how else to describe), then a horizontal opening, then a large round "speaker" at the bottom.

There's no markings on them on the outside, and I don't want to tear into them too deep without knowing what I have.

The reason I want to know what to look for is because I want to sell the set-up, and need to know what I have.

Any help, websites, or suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks!

Answer
These speakers sound like Disco Speakers. The nipples you describe are probably the phase plugs of a pair of horn tweeters. The horizontal opening is probably a base reflex port to control the bass of the bass speaker. The hole in the bottom is for the pole of a speaker stand. The carrying handles are for transporting from place to place. As there are no markings it is likely these are hand assembled or kit speakers and as they are ten years old they are probably of very little second hand value although by their weight they may be of reasonable quality (the speakers not the cabinets). As they are carpeted (usually seen on car sub-woofers) makes me believe they are not commercial builds but home assembled units and may not perform as bass reflex disco speakers if they are not built to correct specifications.

How do i bypass a factory amp located on the Speaker?

6 speaker system
on ... should definitely choose the Logitech X 540 5.1 audio system. Enjoy
6 speaker system image

I have an 88 Chrysler New Yorker Landau. This has a premium 6 speaker Infinity sound system. Each speaker has its own amp hooked on the back of the speaker. I bought a new deck but there is no sound because of the amps. I don't know much about this stuff, so how would I get the sound to work?

Answer
There will be a wire in the factory radio harness that activates the stock amplifiers. It works just like the remote wire for an after-market amp: apply voltage to the wire, and it will turn on the amps. If you used an adapter harness to install your new head unit, the turn-on wire in the adapter harness is blue. Connect this to the blue/white wire from the new deck.

If you didn't use an adapter harness, you'll have to try to identify the correct wire. Usually the factory wire color is green/red, green/black, or light green.

How to 5.1 car audio surround sound system?

Lyricalyjy

Hello,
i've been doing some research on car audio systems for sisters birthday but im a bit stuck.
my sister loves classical music and listening to them (really loud) in her car while shes going to work or in any occasions.

So for her birthday im planning on upgrading her car audio system (in a tight budget) to a decent level so that she can enjoy her music how it was suppose to sound like.

Ive did some research and from my opinion, getting a really good 5.1 or even 7.1 surround sound in a car is best for listening to classical music.

Can anyone please help me out on what I need to get and what I should shop for? I personally know how to do electrical wiring's and installations but have limited knowledge on sound systems.
I am a college student so im in a tight budget
thank you

Car: Altima Coupe 2009
Option: convenience package (i believe standard 6 speaker sound system *not Bose))

Answer
Are u sure 5.1 is the way to go? What is your source material? If its just CDs they were very probably recorded in stereo, classical or otherwise. You don't gain anything by running a stereo recorded track into a 5.1 system.
If you're going to replace the head unit with a DVD player then maybe. But then what is your sisters song collection? If its on cd and not DVD then again u may not want to spend the cash if she isn't going to make use of the benefits.

So next question, does she need a new head unit? Does she use some technology that isn't in her car now? Like if she uses her phone for music then she might like bluetooth. But if all she does is listen to CDs then she doesn't need a new head unit.
And know that the car engineers use eq and delay in the head unit to make the sound the best it can be. If u swap out the head unit then u will lose that advantage.

Plus a 5.1 system would assume you have a center channel speaker. Is that the case? Is there a place to put a center speaker in the dash?

So if I've talked you out of 5.1 and into stereo, and you want volume then you need to amplify the 6 speakers and add a subwoofer. The easy trick is to buy the wire harness adaptor to take speaker level off the back of head unit. Then you can run high level to the amp input and run amp output back to the dash to use the car wiring to get to the speakers.

You need to decide the amp wattage. There are plenty of reasonable 4 channel amps with about 100w per channel that will be a big step up. Like maybe kenwood kac2404s. And it would be worth it to pick kne with built in eq for each channel. At least if your sister has a sense for good audio its worth it. If its just volume then maybe not.
You will need to pick 6 speakers of power handling to match. Know that the instrument panel speakers are wired in parralel with the door speakers. Also the Nissan speakers are 2 ohm speakers. So that is a difference that Affects sound level. Check crutchfield for speakers that fit your car.

And u might as well pick a powered sub already in an enclosure. It's the easy route.

Good luck.
