Q. How many watts do I need for a speaker set to have enough bass to shake one room a little. I want some speakers that has a lot of bass and will shake the ground a good amount. I want to fell the bass but as we'll I want the audio and bass to be clear. The type of speakers I'm looking for is a 5.1 surround speakers with one or more sups to it. I was thinking about getting the Logitech speaker system Z906. But I was not sure if this would have enough bass for me. And I was wondering about the beatbox from Dr. Dre. Not the mini portable beatbox but the big one that he has that cost 399.00 $ it's on sale for 250.00 $ at his official site. But I was wondering if his beat box was any good. Thanks for everyone who writes an answer of this question!

Contrary to popular belief, watts doesn't tell you much about how much acoustic output an audio system has. To produce bass, you have to move a lot of air which means you need large woofers with a lot of cone surface area. You're not going to get earth shaking bass with anything from Logitech or similar. For this you need a real system, not a toy like Logitech.

Find yourself a receiver with preamp outputs so you can use external amplifiers for the main speakers. To keep the budget low (although still far higher than Logitech) you could go with something like this NAD... http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=NAT748 Then add something like this Emotiva amplifier for the left/right/center... http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/amplifiers/products/xpa-3 Then add some budget left/right main speakers like these... http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=MRBBX6 and a center... http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=MRBBXCE and surrounds... http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=MRBBXFX and a subwoofer... http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-15h.html

The above example is entry level, it's a system that would be pretty good for the money. If you really want something good, it's going to be a lot more. There are things between this and the Logitech, but don't buy any system that is an all in one package, instead buy individual components. If you are good with tools maybe you can consider building your own... subwoofers especially if you get a kit is really easy... http://www.parts-express.com/cat/subwoofer-system-kits/287

How loud should I set my rear surrounded speakers?

I have a Logitech Z906 speaker system. Whenever I set my rear speakers either they're too low or too loud that I can't hear the front dialogue speakers. How can I set it to that 'just right' volume?

Answer
You can get a sound DB meter from radio shack or other electronics stores and use that to set up your speakers using the meter in a fixed location you set up all speakers to put out thye same level, you need some kind of program or disk that will generate a pink noise or white noise sound into each speaker in turn so they can be adjusted equally....
