It is NOT an ipod that I have, but I want to get something to play the music out loud with instead of having it plugged into the computer all of the time. Any suggestions on which kind and where to get it will help!

You can get a cheap set of computer speakers and connect them to the headphone jack on your MP3 player. It won't charge your player or do anything fancy, but it's far more portable than your computer. I have two sets that I bought for $6 each at Big Lots, but general merchandisers like Target or Wal-Mart will probably sell cheap speakers, too.
You get the best quality sound by turning up the volume control on the MP3 player as loud as it will go and then adjusting the volume on the speakers to the level you want. Just remember to change the volume back to a lower level before using headphones again. If you have the volume low on the player and high on the speakers, you're just amplifying a weak signal and it will sound like crap.
Make sure that you get speakers that use either batteries or plug into the wall. Speakers that don't need batteries or electricity will not be very loud or sound very good.

What would be the best portable ipod dock/speakers for a small-medium park?

I am looking for ipod portable speakers/ dock that would be good for a small-medium sized park/ grass area. I would like it to be loud, but also clear.

No portable speaker system/dock has anywhere near
the output required for an outdoor area that large.
You will be sorely disappointed with the results
no matter which one you try to use for such a purpose.
What you need is a PA system that consists of a fairly powerful amplifier
(probably not less than 100, and maybe as much as 300, watts per channel)
and good-sized sound reinforcement speakers.
In sufficiently populous areas, such a system can be rented
from a local stage-sound-and-lighting shop.
Of course, a sound system requires a power source.
If the park has no electrical service for the public, you'd also need a generator.
[An inverter won't do the job properly.]
