I know the retail value is around $250 or something like that. I got this system for free and have enjoyed it, but I need some quick cash. I now almost everybody and their mother harbors a horrible opinion about Bose, so I was wondering how that should affect my asking price and I also just wanted to know how much I should even try to sell it for anyway.

Answer
You pose a very interesting question.

Yes, Lots of members of forums, and similar types of internet/ infotech based feeds have horrible opinions about Bose.
Whether they are valid opinions - I won't get into that unless you want the facts.

But - with that said, how many of those members with horrible opinions make up the Market??
My best guess is 10% at best.
So this means the rest of 90% knows Bose as 1] respectable company 2] good products.
Now this 90% is made up of a variety of consumers. Most of them just don't know, but have seen Bose Ads in magazines, TV ads, Radio ads, random Internet/Google ads etc.
... and because of these ads, this bulk of consumers are highly likely to go and look at any Bose product and after a quick demo, say, "Wow sounds good! - But very expensive... SO IT MUST BE GOOD! - I heard they are the best."
At that point, they will probably not make the investment as who has $500+ for a CLOCK/RADIO/CD PLAYER [Bose Wave music system]... or $300 for a Ipod Dock... or $thou$ands for any of their 2.1/5.1/6.1 Cinemate/V-series/Lifestyle series systems?? --- --- so they go home and DREAM big... save up, in hopes to own Bose one day. Awesome... aspirations are good.

Then they by chance see some negative comments about Bose online or from a friend... and think:
-"Oh they are just jealous - cuz they can't afford it themselves..."
-"Oh well, Bose is USA's most successful audio companies - and the Best will always have enemies/HATERS - just haters"
-"Oh, well, Bose speakers is in the Sistine Chapel / Staples Center / Ferrari / oh and of course: GM / MAZDA / ETC... so they must be good - good enuff or the POPE, good nuff for ME! yahoo!!"
-"Oh, I heard their demo [all 10minutes] and WOW such small speakers, they sound GREAT! --I'LL LET ME EARS DECIDE THANK-YOU"
-"Oh My Grandpa, Dad had Bose... I'll get Bose - great American company..."
--- did I miss anything?? ----
... so they will negate the advice on forums... ... Well, maybe they should based on how much useless, derogatory, missleading information the Net... ... So they go and try to save $$ for the day they can afford Bose.

Then --- OOOO --- They see a great deal on eBay or Craigslist or Kijiji... and can save hundreds or even thousands.

So my answer:
You can get almost full price for your Companion 3 speakers.
All you have to do is explain how GREAT IT SOUNDS, HOW ABSOLUTELY MINT IT IS, HOW IT'S ONLY 5 DAYS OLD, HOW NICELY YOU'VE KEPT IT, HOW IT'S BEEN IN A SMOKE FREE ROOM, HOW IT'S BEEN PET EVERYDAY TO SLEEP...
and then Post it on eBay, Craigslist, Kijiji, all local newspapers, on TV, on Radio....
...
And who knows, you may even get more than $250.
I'd Guess - if you do enough of what Bose does, you'll get over $500 for it...
Then you can get their Bose Companion 5!!!
FREE UPGRADE!!! YAHOO!!!

But seriously, Craigslist will probably yeild the highest bid... but you may have to show a few ppl how well it works. Hope this helps.

What kind of speakers I have to buy if...?

Barrr

What kind of speakers I have to buy if...I want powerful, clear, and loud speakers, so what do I need to know in order to find powerful speakers For my LapTop?
I need to know about the watts, the channels or WHAT?

Answer
The speaker type that you're probably looking for are called "active" or "multimedia" speakers. "multimedia" just refers to computer speakers. "active" is the antonym of "passive". "Passive", used to describe subwoofers most commonly, means that it is just a speaker, no built in amplifier. "active" obviously refers to speakers with their own power. Most people buy "multimedia" speakers for their computers, and there are a lot to choose from. However, you don't have to use this system. You can also use your home stereo or av receiver. It just depends on things like how mobile (if at all) you want your laptop's sound to be, how clear, loud, and powerful you want them to be, and how much you want to spend. How clear they sound is largely the result of what level of what brand. i.e. Klipsch, Yamaha, Polk Audio, Infinity, JBL, are a few makers of quality electronics and speakers. You will have to go to an electronic retailer like Fry's or Best Buy and take advantage of there displays. And when you do, don't be afraid to crank that s**t up. You need too in order to hear 2 things.(1) The quality of the sound @ power (high), and (2) hear the relativity of the wattage rating. I'd suggest a wattage, but "powerful, clear, and loud speakers" has different values to different nerds. If you listen to music, and don't watch movies or play video games, stereo or 2.1 is all you need. The .1 is a subwoofer, already integrated with the set 2.1. If you want surround sound or 3d sound (whatever other names they've come up with), then you can get a 4.1, 5.1, or 7.1 system. You might need to pick up an external sound card (7.1) depending on what your laptop has or doesn't have. That's WHAT with the channels. I think a 2.1 set of speakers rated @ 80watts (max) will be sufficient, but you'll know when you go to the showroom. Good luck!
