What kind of speakers are good for a TV where you don't have enough room for surround sound?

I have a TV in a small confined room where there isn't enough room to set up surround. What are some other kind of speakers that I can use that will still be able to give me good sound quality?

You could get a sound bar...some are pretty good and definitely would sound better than the TV speakers...here is couple of examples..

I'm actually using computer speakers right now, but they don't have a remote so I have to get up whenever I want to change the volume. Call me lazy, but it gets annoying!

Anyone have a recommendation of a good 2.1 system or soundbar in the sub-$100 range that has a remote?

nothing comes in the sub 100 dollar range unless it's used. don't skimp on the audio, it's half the info, video is the other half, spend as much as you did on the TV. you said call you lazy, I'm calling you cheap. a stereo receiver is a min of 100, two decent speakers is another 100, and add signal cable and speaker wire plus tax and you're around 300. but you'll have that sound equipment longer than your next two cars, ... it just lasts a long time. you mentioned 2.1 and the .1 usually means a subwoofer, once you add one of those you're getting into much more expensive things, a cheap sub costs 100 dollars and the receiver I mentioned for 100 doesn't support a separate subwoofer...
