Best mid-price range iPod speaker system?

shizzle

i know absolutely nothing about them, but i know what features i want!:

have an adapter option so i can plug it in if i want, a headphone jack, either internal charging or alkaline/lithium battery power for on the go, decent sound (w/bass) and wattage strong enough to fill a room, and somewhat easy to transport.

in addition, a remote would be nice, as would a cd player - but those aren't absolute necessities.

any suggestions on what brands/models to get and/or which ones to stay away from?!

there are *so* many choices!

thanks. :)

Answer
I would forgo the CD player if I were you: you won't use it nearly often enough to justify it (probably. if you have an ipod most CDs you'll listen to are probably on it...right?)
Most of these are a bit more expensive but there are a few in the sub $100 range.

Generally speaking, Logitech, iHome, etc. are good choices at this price point.

You may also want to look for features like a clock, alarm, radio, etc. if those are features you think you would want.

best ipod speakers....?

i was thinking about buying this

is there anything better?

thanks:)

Answer
I would highly recommend going with the regular stereo speakers. You have a high enough budget to get VERY good sounding speakers, but you wont get amazing sound out of that Ihome set. The sound is good on it, but you can do better at this price range. :D

I personally recommend a pair of AudioEngine A2 speakers. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_772A2W/Audioengine-2-A2-White.html?search=Audioengine+VENDORID772&tp=252

They are only $199 so you can save 100 bucks. I am listening to these at this very moment and they truely are the highest quality speakers you can get in this price range.

If you still want to spend more and get the next best thing... go with the A2s older brothers, the A5s. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_772A5W/Audioengine-5-A5-White.html?search=Audioengine+VENDORID772&tp=252

At $325 they will give you an even fuller and more musical sound than the A2s... but they're bigger than the A2s and may be harder to find room for. However, if I had the room for the A5s, I would have bought them instead of the A2 speakers.

Now, you may say that you don't want to have to lug around 2 seperate speakers when you could carry the single ihome speaker system, and I would agree that it may be a bit harder to find room for. However, these Audioengine speakers give SUPERIOR sound in my opinion. With 2 seperate speakers you get much better stereo imagining and clarity than with one large unit. Also, you can set them as close or far apart as you want, which can improve the sound greatly depending on where you put them.

After all is said and done, to be honest, AudioEngine is a proffessional audio company, Ihome is not. I must admit, the Ihome speakers look pretty awesome, but the audioengines trump them in sound quality. I really recommend the Audioengine speakers.

If your still not quite sure, google AudioEngine A2 or Audioengine A5 and look for reviews. 4 and 5 star reviews are all over. When I was still looking around for speakers, thats what sold me on these. The reviews tell all.

Hope this helps!
