I was given 4 really nice speakers and i dont have a way to hook them up to anything for music, tv, etc. i have 2 sub woofers and 2 mids. they have the older Black and and Red wires. I have no idea what to get for these and i need to know before Christmas because im broke!! Something that can have an iPod dock or be hooked into the tv as surround sound. PLEASE HELP!! I will try and put some pictures on but i cant promise. THANKS!!!! (i have the speakers obviously but i need a good system or thing that they all connect to. i dont know what its called oops..)

yes, a receiver is the thing. receiver that can do what's called 5.1 surround sound. yamaha and pioneer make entry level models for 230.00 dollars. simply put, you plug your boxes (game systems, cable/satellite box, dvd etc) into the receiver, you wire speaker outs with speaker wire (red and black) and you send the video out to the TV. it acts like a big switch, allowing you to listen to what ever you have plugged in.
if you have two subwoofers you might only be able to use one...
the receiver is a big black box, kinda heavy, sometimes with one or two large knobs and a screen to tell you what's playing and how loud it is. then you can buy a simple cable for the ipod, it has two different ends, one end plugs into the ipod and the other end has two plugs, one is red and one is white, these go in the back of the receiver and voila !!! kick butt sound from the ipod.
don't be afraid to spend on sound equipment, it's about the only electronics left where there's a huge difference between the best and the worst.

Ok here's the deal. I am going to be moving into a new house soon to expand. Now that I will have more room I want a surround sound system. I have an LG blueray disc player and an xbox 360. Basically what I am looking for is a system that doesn't have a dvd player in it since I already have one. Do they make such a thing? I want a descant system but nothing like Bose. Any input is appreciated! Thanks!
