What are a really good type of speakers?

I just bought a new car (97 Acura EL) and quickly found out that the sound system in this car has had its day. I need some new speakers for this car but I'm not exactly sure which are the best for loud clear sound. What kind of speakers would be best if I was to get some?

That question is hard to answer without you saying what your budget is. Speakers are the final link in a sound system and will ultimately have the greatest impact on what the system will sound like. The bottom line is that you should buy the best that your budget allows because they can range roughly from $40 a pair to well over $1000 a pair. Personally I have had great success with JL Audio, Kicker, and MTX subwoofers and MB Quart, Boston Acoustics, and Alpine components. Of course this was during the golden age of car audio('87-mid '90s) when quality gear was made in either the U.S.A., Germany, or Japan. Now almost everything is junk 'cause it's made in China, Malaysia, or Taiwan. There are still a few(very few) companies that make quality car audio speakers but you will surely pay for it. You can still find used quality gear on ebay. Look for MB Quart QM series with the paper cones for mids/highs. Made in Germany. It will put today's junk to shame.
