Connecting speaker system to a tv?

otaku_man2

My dad just got a speaker system and we dont have an amplifier or reciever to connect the speakers to. Is there any way to connect the tv and speakers? .......the speakers are sony ss-b3000 ( thats whhat is on the box)

Answer
The other answers are correct ... except if the TV has speaker terminals. It used to be fairly common, but it's unlikely these days since most HDTVs only have optical outputs (and older ones had red/white analog stereo RCA jacks) for audio. So, there are no speaker terminals therefore no way to connect the speakers (without getting inside ... risky/pointless) and you must amplify the signal to power the speakers. The best way is an amplifier or receiver with appropriate input jack(s). You don't need anything fancy. Lot's of used ones on the market.

Should I connect a Logitech X-530 5.1 Speaker System directly to my tv?

Is connecting the Logitech X-530 5.1 Speaker System directly to the audio out on my tv set a good idea?...I'm planning on buying one soon to enhance the sound quaility mainly for when I watch digital cable , and also to play ps2 and watch dvds also what kind of connecting adapter do I need(thats important to know)?

Answer
Nope. Not unless your tv decodes 5.1 or the speakers decode the analog signal out of the tv into 5.1. Otherwise you'll just hear left and right speakers. Plus amplifiers in tv sets are crap. Get a cheap 5.1 receiver then hood the stuff up to it. check ebay.
