I have a pioneer stereo unit, with sony gtsx 6.5 speakers in the front and 6x4s in the rear all connected to my 600 watt sony amplifier. I also have some 10 inch 1000 watt sony xplod subwoofers that are sitting in some custom made boxes underneath my bench seat in the back of my crew cab. They are also hooked up to the amp obviously.

I am not very satisfied with the sony speakers when I try to turn them up high they get distorted.
I have spent over $1000 total on my stereo system and I want to be satisfied with what I have.
I am thinking of replacing the sony's with some really nice alpine speakers is that a good idea?

Also is it ok to have 3 different audio brands in your stereo system? For example Pioneer stereo which I have, with alpine speakers which I want to get and Sony subwoofers which I have. Will it make any difference on how it sounds or does it matter.

Thanks for your advice.

Answer
I have a Dual head unit, SPL amp, sony x-plode door speakers, and a alpine type R in my 89 mustang and it sounds amazing. lol hope that helps. it doesnt matter if you have different brands, ive hooked up several systems with mixed brands turned out fine!

how big a speaker system I need for an indoor audience of 350 people?

There will be background music for a dinner party audience of 350 people. I plan to have two or four speakers. I am thinking of getting 1000 watt speaker.

Answer
You say back ground music so that means that everyone can still talk over the music easily.

For a dinner party setup your actually better off having many speakers spaced through out the dinner space and playing them at low levels.

With just a pair of speakers you will have to play at a fairly loud level so the people at the back can actually hear it, and then it may be to loud for the people close to the speakers.

Honestly if its low level listening you wont need that much power just a amplifier that is stable driving multiple speakers, especially if the speakers are fairly efficient.
