I'm going to be in a school gym that has a great speaker system but only microphone jacks on the walls to connect to. (I'm sure their is another standard way like to play music but I don't have access to it) Is there an adapter I can buy to connect my iPhone to this so the audio coming out of the headphone jack will play from the speakers? Where would I be able to buy something like that? Thanks!

Answer
Yes there is!!!

You need two things to do this right - neither one is very expensive.

You need a 3.5mm to 1/4 inch adapter cable:

http://www.amazon.com/Hosa-CMP153-Stereo-8In-Mono/dp/B0002CZZ0G/ref=sr_1_16?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1302634971&sr=1-16

Direct box:

http://www.amazon.com/Pyle-Pro-PDC21-Instrument-Balanced-Unbalanced/dp/B0027V760M/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1302634907&sr=1-3

Connect the 3.5mm end to your headphone output on the ipod. Connect one of the 1/4 inch ends to the input on the direct box. Leave the other one unconnected. Connect the output of the direct box to the mic jack on the wall using a standard 3 pin XLR mic cable:

http://www.amazon.com/Whirlwind-MIC03-Female-Microphone-Cable/dp/B001J1SX94/ref=sr_1_5?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1302635518&sr=1-5

The direct box is needed for two reasons - the mic input is very sensitive and your ipod puts out too much signal for that type of input - the direct box cuts that down to mic level. The box also balances the output from your ipod - XLR mic inputs are balanced.

It will work great but it will require a bit of investment on your part. All of these items are available at any store that sell musical instruments and sound equipment (like Guitar Center) or online.

will these External Ipod speaker system work with my macbook pro?

This is what i want to buy:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Klipsch-iGroove-Speaker-System-compatible/dp/B000I1HUGS

I want to use this for both my iphone and my macbook pro (2009 edition). Can i connect this system to a macbook so i can play music off it?

Answer
Yes. Because it can be used with other mp3 players. It will have a line in plug and most likely come will a cord that has a 3.5 mm headphone jack at each end. Instead of plugging one end into the headphone jack of an mp3 player you will plug it in to the headphone jack on the computer. Check out the link for the manufacturer. Hope this helps. Good Luck with your future purchase.
