I have an acoustic solutions ds1233 surround system with a built in digital decoder, I want to connect it to my PC using the 3.5mm spdif output in the back of my creative sb live 5.1 sound card, what do i need? The digital inputs on the system are toslink optical and a coaxial rca type connector, Ideally I want to connect the spdif to the coaxial input but im not sure if i need a special cable? Ive tried using a normal rca stereo cable with a 3.5 mm adapter but i i can only get 2 channels at a time, will a 3.5 mono phono adapter work? Thanks

chances are your mother board or sound card has a "optical out" this is a single fiber ouptic plug for all audio channels (5.1,6.1,or even possibly 7.1 ) you can plug it into a surround recievers and then hook speakers to the reciever. The other option is to plug the system in using the analog outputs, they usually are labled poorly but the manual for the soundcard should give a clear diagram of the channels and what color plug thay are associated with. dont be confused if there are only 2-or 3 plugs, many times thats all thats required, because each plug is stereo there for 2 channels each. there may be some setup required in the software portion, but that should be rather simple.
You should not have to purchace an additional sound card for a true surround experience just need the proper equipment to hook to it.

Would I need a TosLink cable for the JVC TH-BC1 Sound Bar System?

I am looking at speaker systems for my HD Vizio TV and hear that a TosLink cable makes them sound better. For the JVC TH-BC1 Sound Bar System would this cable help?

The audio source or the TV would need to have this as an audio out port. Make sure it has it before buying the cable. Most devices only have optical, HDMI or RCA audio out
