advise on church sound system?

Q. Small church, fairly old sound system. Using a Bose 802-e Active Equalizer between mixer and amplifier to add a little fidelity to the sound. Bose unit went out and can't find another one. Is there another model, that is more readily available, that would do the same thing as the 802-e? Thanks

Answer
A lot depends on what type of connections your system uses....does it have balanced connection Phono jack or RCA??? What impedance is the amp and how many speakers??? Something like the Behringer Ultracurve DEQ 2496 might work for you...something simplier to use might be the Behrinnger FBQ 1502 oeven the FBQ 800 might work for you....DBX makes some so does Peavey and NADY

Problems with church audio?

Our sound system is almost 10 years old maybe older anyways, we recently started having problems with the system our stage speakers no longer function and in our sound system we try unplugging repluging the system and turning up the stage and nothing happened. Also recently me and a few others saw a huge blue spark come out of one of the vestry speakers. Also, Pastor is having problems hearing the music and he hears himself echoing. Is there anything we can do to solve our problem like some headphone lapels or something?

Answer
You have equipment that is failing. Adding more equipment will not fix the problem.

Hire a good audio technician to come out and troubleshoot the system, and then give you a list of what's wrong and how much to fix it.

And "headphone lapels" (whatever those are) don't stop speakers from sparking. That sounds like one of your amps is or has failed and took that speaker out. The longer you wait, the more you'll likely have to replace.

Unless you really know what you're doing (and from the sound of your posting, I'm guessing that audio is not your area of expertise), you'll spend more money on "solutions" that won't work than it would cost just to fix the problems.

Hire a reputible tech, have them go through the system to see what's wrong, and then ask them how much to fix it.

And unless the tech offers to volunteer his/her time, pay 'em. Some of us make a living based on our knowledge.

Good luck.
