What 2.1 speaker system to get/make?

Q. I need a 2.1 system. Don't want 2.0, 5.1, 7.1, etc. I had the Logitech Z-2300, great until the cables wore out. Replaced with a Z 636, not so great. Lacks a pleasant sound when turned up, as well as sufficient bass.

So if I were to buy a 2.1 system for a master bedroom, what would be best? Needs sufficient bass, but also clarity. Willing to pay up to $400~
If I were to build a system (receiver, speakers, etc.) what kind of options could I get for the same price?

Answer
You could get a 2.1 receiver there are not many available and most are of higher price but there is the Sherwood RX 4503 you could then get 2 Dayton B 652 speakers and a Dayton sub..this could be done for under $300.... The disadvantage is that the Sherwood 2.1 receiver has no optical nor HDMI input so for an HDTV its not going to work well, for those connections its cheaper to get an entry level 5.1 receiver than a 2.1 with optical...the system would probably give you more bass and volume than computer speakers would with the added advatage that you could upgrade the speakers receiver or the sub woofer one at at time...for upgrades I would recommed taking a look at Energy CB 10 speakers or Monitor Audio M1 speaker and a Velodyne Impact or VX subwoofer

Affordable T.V speaker system?

What system is my best solution for a 5.1 set up... for under 300?

Anyone have any recommendations?

Answer
Logitech Z-5500. You can find it new for $300, or pick one up refurbished for $200.
