Answer
That really depends on if you are looking for a receiver and speakers as well or if you have speakers already and also what your budget is. If your budget is $300 or less take a look at a few HTIBs from Samsung and Panasonic, they will give you a lot of bang for the buck with good DVD players, and decent surround sound. If you can get up into the $500 - $800 range, look into either building a small package with a separate receiver, and speaker package (entry/mid level Yamaha receiver, with Yamaha or JBL speakers), or take a look at a few of the higher end HTIBs from Denon, Yamaha or Onkyo. Denon has an HTIB called the DHT 687 for $700 which is a fantastic system for the money and gets great reviews as well (5.1 system with receiver, speakers and dvd player). If your budget gets you into the $1000 + range look into building your own system and keep an eye on what the big box retailers advertise - Best Buy offers a Klipsch/Yamaha package all the time for a $1000 where you get the Klipsch Quintet 5.1 speaker package with 10" Subwoofer, along with a Yamaha receiver, and that system is extremely hard to beat, and the Klipsch Quintet package and Sub 10 (sub included in the system) are the top selling products in the entire US in their product category. None of the speakers in any of the packages mentioned are large, and can be mounted with ease. The Klipsch speakers come with an included base that can also be used as a mount if you choose to do so, otherwise you can just set them on some furniture around the room.

I hope this helped.

Mirage MX series home theater setup or Klipsch Quintet with Polk PSW-505 subwoofer?

Hello, I need some advice on what home theater set I should buy, either between the Mirage MX series home theater setup with sub included or Klipsch Quintet speakers with a Polk PSW-505 subwoofer. I am a newbie at home audio, and I've never had a particularly great-sounding home theater setup before. I have a medium-sized living room with a dining room attached with no divider. Now, for prices, I can get the Mirage MX setup for about $400, and the Quintet setup with the Polk subwoofer for around the same price. I am using a Harmon Kardon AVR 1700 receiver. If none of these options are good, should I build my setup starting with these?: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882117403
Thanks in advance.
What if this set is added to the comparison?: http://reviews.cnet.com/surround-speaker-systems/pioneer-sp-pk52fs/4505-7868_7-35477425.html
And how does the Energy Take 5 compare to the quintet?

Answer
I say go with the Klipsch & Polk Audio. The MX system is "mini", which would be fine except for the subwoofer. An 8" cube cannot reproduce LFE with nearly the caliber of a 12" subwoofer. Larger diameter drivers naturally reproduce lower frequencies and will easily out perform a 6" or 8" driver without even breaking a sweat. Both Klipsch and Polk Audio are audiophile accepted loudspeaker manufacturers, and have good reputations for quality products. Yep, the Klipsch & Polk Audio, no question.
