Dolby 5.1 conversion to 3 Speaker System?

I have a Walmart Durabrand HT-3917 with 60W peak. The sub has output for 5 speakers. I'm looking to scale the system down for my dorm room. I want to condense the system and use two 25W peak speakers that I have. Is it as simple as running two channels from the back into just one speaker?

Sub is 8ohm while speakers are 6ohm
would replacing the mains with bigger speakers (the 25Ws), am i really putting more strain on the system?

also, im thinking that disconnecting the surrounds wouldnt really do anything for the system, as the channels are still being used one way or another

i guess what im looking to do is to harness the power of two channels into one. if theres any way to do this, i could replace them, and lose very little power.

No! Don't run two channels into one. You will burn out your sub-woofer.

You could disconnect your two mains and replace them with the 25w. speakers, but the system is really designed to push the speakers that came with it. You would be attempting to draw more power from the system than you actually have and could easily burn out the amplifier in the sub-woofer. The system may just shut off when it starts to overheat, but if this happens too many times, it will stop working.

You could also just disconnect the two surrounds to simplify things. You will loose some information because the system will still think they're hooked up, but you likely won't notice with this type of system, and you don't run the risk of damaging the amplifier.

I have these mcs series 3 way bass reflex speaker system 683-8349 and i don't no the price value there tall and have like a ten to twelve inch woofer 2 tweeters and over all great if any one knows any iso about them let me know all i know there old

Unfortunately they're probably not worth much. This is a very unremarkable brand, made by Technics for JCPenny. They may have been a small step above typical other department store audio products back in the 1970's but still not comparable to higher end brands of the time. If you had some old Altec Lansing stuff from the 1950's ~ mid 1980's then that could be worth something depending on condition but the MCS stuff was never a highly regarded brand.

One roommate in my college days (late 70's to early 80's) had a set of MCS speakers a little bigger than the ones in the e-bay example. I had built a set of bookshelf speakers 1/4 the size of the MCS that pretty much blew the MCS away on sound quality.

If yours are in better condition than the ones shown on e-bay and don't require rebuilding then you can probably get a few bucks for them just because they are working speakers but the MCS name isn't going to get you anything.

Sorry for the bad news, MCS was just never a sought after speaker. It was just another mass market product among many others.
