I'm wondering if there are any better speakers then the Logitech Speaker System Z623, I'm thinking around the price range of 500 or around there. I use them for PC speakers so more then 2 speakers would not be necessary.

Yes. There are better speaker system out there than the one you are looking at. Klipsch is one that I can name off at the top of my head now.

You could go much louder and cleaner with a little more money if you shop for some "studio monitors". They're essentially the same thing (active speakers), but monitors will be "audiophile" approved performance, and stay sharp and undistorted through most all of the volume range. However, if music is not the main or only audio that these are for, then you might be more happy with a 2.1 setup. Studio monitors don't deliver theater style low frequencies (the frequency range that is not found around any musical instruments, but follows the transformers wherever they go) and subwoofers do. So if it's for video/movie sound and techno/house/hip-hop music, you'll want the sub. If it's for music made with instruments (piano, guitar, microphone, drums, wind, etc.) you'll get substantially better volume and sound quality from monitors. Good luck.
