I need a good sound system for a concert I'm planning. The concert is going to be in a high school gym. How much does one cost and can you recommend a good one?

Answer
Instead of buying a P.A. system (which can cost you on the cheap end $1500 for speakers, amps, mixer, cables, and mics) Your better off renting from a local sound company (check your phone book). Plus they will give you what you need for the show. Also you are not stuck with equipment that you might never use again. Beware gyms are not ment for concerts the sound will bounce off the walls and floors and will sound awful. Good Luck.

I want to start a talent show but don't know where I can have it.?

Would a local school let me use their stage? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Answer
A local school might. The local highschool in my area frequently rents out their auditorium to various dance studios for performances and such. The main questions would be, do you have to pay and can you use their sound and lighting equipment?

Additional options are large, outdoor spaces, but you would have to rent all of your own equipment, if you don't own it already. Erecting a temporary stage and large speakers for your audience to be able to hear are essential, not to mention being dependent on the weather.

If you're expecting a smaller audience, check out your local community center. In my area, renting a room is free as long as you're within scheduled hours and reserve ahead of time. Around here, we have a few small stages in some of the rooms.

Another good place would be a local banquet hall or meeting space. (EDIT: There are some centers that exist solely as a "Meeting Hall"-type thing.) I live in a somewhat rural area, but I was surprised to find some very near to me when I Googled it. Once more, if they don't already have a sort of stage, the temporary stage would be the way to go. Most of these spaces already have sound systems that come with the room rentals as well.

The final option is your local church, you don't necessarily have to attend. Go to a few of the larger ones; I guarantee you that they have some sort of stage/auditorium. The large one in my area has a stage in their gym. They might offer to rent it out for money and you may/may not need to provide your own sound and lighting equipment.

If you use any of the ways that involve a large monetary investment, make sure to do a little fundraising or maybe sell tickets to the event. (Especially if you donate the proceeds to a local charity, people will be more willing to give you their money.)

Good luck!
