Connect a bare wire speaker system to xbox 360?

I have an old 5.1 surround system (at least I think that's what it is--it has five speakers and a subwoofer) which I'd like to try and hook up to my 360. Problem is, it uses bare wire connectors and spring plugs. Are there any kinds of adapters or any possible way to connect it?

I do not have acces to soldering equipment, nor would I know how to use it.

From your description it sounds like you have PART of a 5.1 sound system - the 5 speakers (+ subwoofer - the "point 1" part), but if they use "bare wire connectors" with spring clips on the speakers to grab the bare wires (not plugs), then you still need a 5.1 amplifier. The Audio Out from an Xbox 360 will not power those speakers, not with any sort of adapter. However, you need a small plane and the first answer is pointing you to a rocket ship to Mars. That is why there are quote marks (") around the word "adapter" - that is NOT any kind of adapter.
If your "surround system" actually does have an amp, all you need is to find out how it gets its signal - Xbox has a variety of outputs - your challenge is to find a cable system from the Xbox that matches your amplifier's Inputs. If you write back with Additional Details describing those inputs, or if all you really have is 6 speakers, either way let us know and we can go from there... Good luck!

Buzzing sound developed on speaker system twice, any ideas as to cause(s) and resolution?

On the ground floor of our townhouse, I have my computer workstation that includes of a large CPU off to the side and two 22" Samsung LCD displays in a semi-circle arrangement. Behind the displays, I have two speakers. These then are flush against an exterior wall. There is a light switch near the speakers of this exterior wall, and a circuit breaker box to the far right (about 3 feet away) from the CPU and monitors.

About three months ago, I noticed the right speaker developed a persistent hum when turned on. Moving its location did not increase or decrease the hum, it remain constant. Part of me wondered if EM interference had altered the speaker, but part of me also wondered if it had just gone bad.

So I replaced the speakers with a different set of speakers. At first they worked fine, but now, three months later, the left speaker has yet again developed a buzzing hum when turned on. The left speaker does not have the hum.

The fact that two different types of speakers both developed persistent humming on the right speaker now makes me seriously concerned about EM interference. Any ideas as to cause(s) and resolution?

Could the Samsung LCD panels cause it? If so, any fixes?
Could the back wall with its light switch and circuit breaker cause it?
Could something be wired wrong within the wall, and if so, how to test and how to fix?

When we first moved in, the circuit breaker had a slight hum associated with the circuit break for the downstairs (associated with the computer) but that went away after a month. But maybe that's connected to this problem?

Correction: three months later, the right speaker has yet again developed a buzzing hum when turned on. The left speaker does not have the hum.

Thanks William -- switching the speaker cables still biases it to the original "right" speaker. So it follows the speaker even if you change their locations or change their wired connections. It does not change intensity if you move the speakers. The intensity only changes if you turn up or down the volume (and thus the electronic feed).

I'm wondering if EM interference magnetized the internal parts of the original right-hand speaker, so that when it has a line-feed in, this produces the buzz when it really should only produce silence. Does that make sense?

Speakers cannot create a buzz. They can only reproduce what is sent to them. Check the inputs to whatever audio amplifier feeds them. To prove that the speaker is not the cause, switch the left & right speaker wires, while you have the buzz, and observe that the buzz changes sides.
A faulty speaker can develop a rattling buzzy sound, but its loudness would track the volume level and would be absent during quiet passages.

OK, Check it out! A component system differs. from a usual speaker set-up in the way that the actual vocals come out of the tweeters that come with the system. The woofer part of the system which goes most of the time in your doors or rear deck controls the acoustical part of the system! So, if you add an amp yes your sound will get louder but only your mid an lows unless your component system comes with cross overs, if so then you will hear also your highs become more louder but be careful you don't want to over power your highs because then they will heat up an start to pop an crack A.K.A( the spider is then destroyed in the tweeter) so it is basically a good idea to just amplify the component woofer an stay away from the tweeters because an after market component tweeter is pretty loud there would be no reason too amplify the tweeter!

How can I add speakers to my existing system?

Hey all. I currently am using an Altec lansing speaker system. (2 monitors with mids attatched and a sub). I recently found 2 speakers in my basement I wanted to integrate into the system. They are bostons and they have the +/- wire connections. Is there anyway I can integrate these into my system? I don't think I can tap directly into the amp in the existing system.

Depending on how the wiring to the Altec-Lansing speakers is done, it may be possible to splice the wires and run a pair off each speaker cable to the extra speakers.

I'd be cautious about this, though. These days, most "fixed" speaker systems are not designed to be part of a component stereo system, and the impedance of the wires is sufficient to drive the speaker it is attached to, but may not be enough to power a second speaker. Your music source may have the amplitude, but you may find the resulting sound tinny and weak.

For example only one side works and etc. i was wondering how much would it cost to install a small system like a three piece computer speaker system? i am on a low budget. how much cheaper would it be to just a buy the parts myself and install it myself? If so, how difficult is it?

Well I would shop around on Bestbuy, or circuit city, any kind of place like that.
Ive seen radios go as low as 35$ brand new.
Likewise with the speakers, Ive seen standard speakers go for 30$ for the set of two.
As far as installing, usually if you buy there products they will install for free. Or charge a small fee, usually its for free though.
And I dont know if your talking about putting a whole system in including subwoofers, speakers, and the radio.
But if you are You can get those quite cheap to.
Youll probally spend around 150-200$ keep in mind, its not gonna be the best around, but itll work.

So I've got a desktop PC with wireless internet. I want to get speakers in my lounge/diner and in my bedroom that will play the music from my PC e.g. itunes/spotify.
Is it possible? Is it complicated?

You can buy wireless speakers which have a transmitter which plugs into e pc audio socket and receivers in the speakers.

Or you could buy a video sender, and ignore the picture part of it, plug the audio into the pc and plug some speakers Into the receiver end.

Or you could use Bluetooth, depending how far away the receiver needs to be (usually 10m or 30ft maximum). You can buy bluetooth speakers or an adapter (Belkin do one) that you can plug existing speakers into, If your PC doesn't have Bluetooth you can buy a USB Bluetooth adapter very cheaply.

On the other hand, all these are a bit expensive and diddly. It ought be easier to buy an iPod or other mp3 player and plug it into speakers in each room whe you need them.

I'm not sure that you'll be able to play to several sets of speakers at once whatever you do. Certainly not using Bluetooth.

What part of the power goes to the tweeters in a Speaker system?

I have a speaker system with a 12 inches, 4 ohms woofer and a 4 ohms piezoeletric tweeter.

My amplifer can give me 100 Watts RMS.

So, I need to know, how many of the power goes to the tweeter an how many goes tothe woofer?
But a 4.7 mF capacitor in series with the tweeter does not make it have another impedance different of 4 ohms?
4.7 mf = 4.7 microfarads, impossible write the "micro char" here.
I did not know RMS is a wromng term. But I already have read many magazines taht reffers to RMS as CONTINUOUS Watts.

If your amp puts out 100W then 100W can go to your tweeter if you put in a high frequency tone--of course you may not have a working tweeter after doing this.

Typical music has a spectrum such that 85% of the power is below 3kHz and 15% is above 3kHz. So according the website below you would have 15W to the tweeter...typically. If you read through the article you'll see it's a little more complex. Also, I've seen various shapes describing typical music, talk, etc. on other sites so your results will vary.

Can I hook up 2 different speaker systems to my Windows 7 computer?

I have a cheap, decent speaker surround sound system with sub woofer and 2 speakers. The sub plugs into the power bar, plugged into the wall outlet. I've had this with my computer since I got it 2 years ago. They are Insignia speakers and sub. I also have a Logitech speaker system now with Subs and two speakers. The sub woofer has pretty good base for a cheap brand, I want to connect the 2 different speaker systems to my computer and play music at the same time. Can I do this? I got those logitech speakers from my mom because she doesn't need all that sound on her computer and she got a new computer. I just want to see how loud it is. I have plenty of USB ports on my computer. I don't know if they will run on the same sound card? I know I have plugged in my USB headset with microphone attached and I can use the microphone that's attached to the headset, have music coming through the speakers and my voice through the speakers, not music through the headphone part, so I might be able to do this.

Get an audio jack splitter and make sure its a full stereo splitter and not just splitting the audio into left and right mono

The specs say it has audio inputs and if that's true then yes you can. You need to use an rca cable (the kind they include in the box when you buy a cd player or dvd player with a a red plug and a white plug) and connect it from the audio outputs on your TV to the audio inputs on your Sony. I can't see the picture well enough to know what buttons are on the front, but you'll need to select AUX or whatever it's labelled so the Sony will play the signal from the TV.
All you need is the RCA cable, which you probably already have sitting around. If not, head over to Radio Shack and pick one up in whatever length you need.
