Could I hook up a turntable to a powered speaker system?

I have a new, Sony PS-LX250H turntable and was wondering if I could hook it up to a powered speaker system (like a home theater system). The turntable only has the two RCA outputs (red and white), and the speaker system has inputs two RCA inputs on the back, as well as a volume knob. I'm just wondering if I can forgo purchasing a receiver or not.

Would you want to purchase a very expensive sports car and then use the cheap gas on it and dive it at no more than 65 mph. If you want to listening to high quality speakers then you need high quality power amplifier to drive them, you also need a pre amp to connect your high end CD player or turntable. Go to a high end retail store and look. For a high end system like the 800, CD player, power amplifier and a pre amplifier you would be looking at around $ 30,000. Hope this will help you out.

I'm looking for a nice turntable and speaker set for less than $150. I like the convenience of all-in-one sets that have the speakers built in, have a CD player, and have an AUX cable that can play from mp3 devices, but I can easily deal with a standard turntable plus a set of speakers if the audio quality is better. So does anyone have any recommendations of all-in-one sets and regular turntables plus speaker sets? I'll probably be purchasing from Amazon. Thanks!

I doubt this will help much but you probably want to steer clear of Combichrist and M1dy. Maybe some sort of pop happy sort of music. Hannah Montana or something? (Sorry, I'm a techno freak and have no idea who the current pop icons are.)

Trying to use television speakers with a turntable?

I am using a Rolls pre-amp and a Pro-ject Debut Carbon. I am trying to temporarily use a TV to play the turntable while I get speakers. I have the turntable connected to the pre-amp via the RCA cables it came with. The pre-amp is connected to the TV with RCA cables I bought at wal-mart. I have tried ever audio input on the back of the TV and it isn't working.

A TV doesn't usually have audio inputs, only inputs for a composite signal (mixed video and audio) so unfortunately you can't use the TV's audio amplifier. It wouldn't be hard for them to add this facility but there isn't a great demand for it, most people already have a hi-fi system which provides better quality sound than a TV does.
