Full or Rear Wireless Speakers Home Theater?

Tariq

Hello,

What's the cheapest full or rear wireless home theater in the market?

Things to be considered:

1- Good branded
2- At least 5.1 channels
3- At least 800 Watts
4- DVD / BD / 3D BD all are fine with me
5- USB

Thank you very much!
Thank you AVDADDY

Dear Grumpy Mac, I don't know what to say, I'm really thankful for the huge amount of time you game me, you're such a nice very helpful guy.

Ok, Full stands for full wireless speakers, front and rear.
I didn't know those large power numbers are only for marketing, thank you!
USB, so I can play music from the stick on the theater unit.
Cheapest as much as possible.
I can skip the blu-ray player.
tall boy speakers are not good as monitor style speakers?
please, why did you recommend me onkyo over the other brands you mentioned?
do you advise a specific model number?

always thank you very much

Answer
Yikes. You need a LOT of education before you buy anything.

What do you mean by "full"?

"800 Watts" Large power numbers on the box like "1,000 WATTS OF POWER" is usually used on crappy systems to fool first time buyers. If it is a skinny receiver with a built-in disk drive - run.

"USB" - Home theater systems are NOT computers.

"cheapest ... wireless" - This is oxymoronic. Wireless means you do not run 'speaker' wires, but each speaker must contain:

* All the components to make a speaker
* A power supply for each rear speaker
* A Amplifier for each rear speaker
* Electronics to receive signals to each rear speaker.

Take the price of a modest bookshelf speaker - then multiply it by 4 to make it wireless.

"Good Branded" - this is about the only thing you mention that I agree with. A modest Yamaha, Denon, Pioneer or Onkyo AV Receiver will probably work better for you.

Let me focus on power:

With home theater - you surround yourself or a few chairs with a ring of speakers. This is NOT a music system where you are trying to reach concert-hall volume .. in the neighbors home. You just need a modest amount of power per speaker to give a few chairs the surround sound effect.

A good, honesty measured AV Receiver that outputs something like 80 watts per channel will do a great job and can be found in the lower end or middle range of many good brands.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

You want to look at a system that has all these attributes:

* A full-sized, AV Receiver with lots of spare inputs
* A separate, self-powered subwoofer
* 5 monitor style speakers (or 7)
* No BluRay player or has a separate, stand-alone BluRay player. Not a built-in drive

A system that matches these criteria will give you a great Movie experience, lets you attach all types of things, lets you upgrade or swap parts if you want and probably wont cost you more than $500-$1,000 but will last for years.

Search Amazon for "Onkyo Home Theater" to find some box systems that meet all these criteria.

Hope this helps.

best sound system for HD TV?

What system would you advise for amazing sound effects during movies? I will be playing it on blu-ray (ps3), with my 1080p bravia TV. I am hoping to play games with it, and watch movies such as Star Wars, action or horror movies. Is there anything else I need to know? Also my room only has 2 corners should this be a problem? What about wires? Also which type should I get? 5.1 or 7.1? Is wireless inferior in sound quality? What do you think of Sony or Yamaha?

Answer
I would look at the Energy 5.1 speaker system better than Yamaha or Sony.

Best Wireless Speaker (or regular)?

Mercedes D

I was just wondering what speaker is best, preferably wireless, however as long as it suits the following that would be perfect!
- I play a wide range of music, from classical - pop, most of my music has a lot of bass, piano work, or high vocals.
- I play my music loud, my last speaker system was amazing, but when I turned it up past the "12:00" area on the dial, it would give out, and recently started playing all my music quite a few octaves higher, so eric clapton was singing like justin beiber, (scary!)
- I tend to move quite a bit, so it needs to be easy to move from place to place, the last system was ridiculously heavy, it was hard wood (black) and a floor standing stereo that goes up to my mid- rib and I am 5".
- I love things to be sleek and elegant, I am not a fan of big and bulky, however if the quality is amazing I will deal! ^.^
Well, if anyone knows something let me know please, thanks!!!

Answer
First - wireless speakers are almost universally crappy. They are not really wireless but have to have a amp built in as well as the radio receiver. This means more $$$ and you sometimes get interference when airplanes fly over.

If you want a music system - here is what I would get:

* Magnapan - these are electro-static panel speakers. They are tall and wide but very thin. But they have a HUGE radiating surface which means they can produce details other speakers can only dream about. The MMG-1s start at about $650/pair and they have an in-home trial. (One guy described the sound as "...better than sex" - high praise from a guy).

* SVS - Panel speakers cannot produce bass so you need a good, musical subwoofer. Two very good internet brands are SVS Woofers and HSU Research. I once read the owner of SVS praise a competitors sub - so I bought SVS. I appreciate honesty.

* Receiver - get a good 5.1 receiver from a name brand company like Yamaha or Dennon. If you shop your local Craigslist you can often find 8 year old receivers that were $2,000 going for $300. This piece will be heavy - but it is a power-plant and trust me - you want heavy for an amp to play loud and long.

Hope this helps.

Speakers Question, Home Theater?

Ryan H

I am looking for a 5.1 home theater system that supports hdmi from my ps3 and to my Bravia X.

I do not need or want a dvd or blu ray player with it.
It also needs to support Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD.
Needs wireless rear speakers.
Needs HDMI compatible AV receiver.
looking to spend 500 - 1000.

does anybody have a recommendation?

Answer
Start with the 220 dollar yamaha reviever you can find at your local radioshack. that will take care of the Dolby, the 500 watts across 5 channels the DTS and the HDMI. The cerwin vega CLS-6c center speaker rocks, its about 100 bucks. The wireless rear speakers are going to be expensive and the sound will suck so no suggestion there. A company called fluance makes some awesome towers for 100 bucks a peice, (they are their only model in that range) and get a powered sub. Klipsh is my favorite but they can get pricey, you wont regret it though they take your heart out punch it and then put it back with every grenade that goes off.

I have an Acer Aspire9503EWSMI laptop computer and while the speakers are okay, I would like to listen to online radio stations, saved music and other audio from my computer through my yamaha home theater system. What cord do I need to accomplish this?

Answer
Optical Audio: http://www.amazon.com/Fiber-Optical-Toslink-Digital-Interface/dp/B0002MQGOK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1228496707&sr=1-1

Or you can use a network player. I use a Roku Soundbridge. It's also wireless.

Where can I find an "idiots guide" to outdoor speaker installation?

Katherine

I don't even know where to start. I need to know what I need to do a full installation of an outdoor speaker stereo system. Questions I have range from: What kind of receiver do I need? How do the outdoor speakers hook up to a receiver that's inside? Do I need an outdoor volume controller? If so, how do I hook that up as well?

I really need "start from scratch" instruction guide. Please help.

Answer
Not sure where to find an Idiots Guide but can tell you what I did with outdoor speakers.
First, buy speakers that are suited for outdoor use. I mounted them under the overhang of the roof around the patio.
Lot's of choices on speakers, some are designed to look like large stones that you can place in a garden, etc.
I ran speaker wire to the inside where the audio equipment is located.
Have a Yamaha receiver that is hooked to the external speakers as well as the inside speakers, TV, VCR, etc.
The receiver has a speaker switch. You can select the speakers you want to use. It is like an A/B switch.
You can also buy wireless speakers. They will be more expensive and I am not sure how well they work.
You might go to Radio Shack and see what they carry in speakers. Have them draw out the hookups for you. I am not touting Radio Shack, any number of good stores handle audio equipment.
I would not want to invest a tremendous amount of money in exterior speakers. To many things can happen to them and you will not be able to tell the difference in sound quality outdoors, anyway.
Good luck

What should I know about TVS and Sounds systems when applying for a job in a retail shop ?

Anon

Im in college and need a job to get some extra cash.Is there anything I should know about Tvs/Sound systems?

Answer
Heres an extremely short version of what you need to know. Might I add, this is knowledge in a nutshell!!

For TVs:
-Differences between Plasma/LCD and which is beneficial in different scenarios
-Know what 120hz processing is and what it does
-Know about contrast ratio and resolution
-Know which TVs have 120hz (Samsung 650, 750, 850, 950, Sony W and Z series and XBR, LG 60 and 70)
-Know facts about each brand of TV (Sony buys screens from Samsung, Samsung is the lead in LCDs, Sharp operated in Tokyo for 100 years, Pioneer is best for plasma and was first to market plasmas, etc)
-Know all about sources, so digital/HD cable, dvd, bluray etc
-Know everything about cables needed like HDMI, component video, composite AV, fiber optic, digital coax, coaxial, VGA
-Know how to hook up all these cables and how to use/hook up an AV receiver
-Know about the transition to Digital in February 2009

FOR AUDIO
-Know differences between 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1 systems
-Know what RMS vs max wattage is
-Know what %THD (total harmonic distortion) is
-Know which brands are the best (Klipsch is the best, Polk Audio, JBL, some Yamahas)
-Know about different features that come with HTiB (Home Theater in a Box) such as iPod compatibility, wireless speakers, neural sound
-Know how to piece together a sound system with different speakers like bookshelf/center/floor speakers (the best sound will come from this)
-Know how to connect to TV or AV receiver
-Familiarize yourself with Yamaha/Sony/Pioneer AV Receivers and features such as XM Radio, neural sound, equalization, speaker zoning, etc

Hope this helps, and good luck!

I need a surround sound entertainment system?

wireless speaker system yamaha image

Andrew

I'm looking for a surround system that can be used with a computer and tv. At least one subwoofer, doesnt have to have a blue ray player, and at least 2 wireless speakers (although looking for something completely wireless. Any suggestions?

Answer
I don't recommend completely wireless systems. Convenient, yes, but you loose sound quality, so no more than 2 wireless (normally the rears). I also do not recommend buying sets with a built in player whether it be dvd or blueray. Players often mess up for one reason or another and you end up having to hook up a seperate new one eventually and lets hope you have the hookups available on back of the system to support this at all. Do you know much about receivers? They have a multitude of plugs in the back to support composite (red white yellow) component (red white yellow blue green), hdmi, etc. So you can hook up any sort of player to it you wish and change things around. You can go to places like best buy and either spend a chunk more by building your system (pick out the receiver, and what speakers you want) or you can just buy one of the already packaged sets I want to say for under 150 for sure. If you went the receiver route, yamaha is good quality for decent price. Keep in mind you get what you pay for so if you go really cheap, it may crap out on you much much sooner. Unfortunately the systems i'm talking about are fully wired. Ugh if i had to recommend a prepackaged surround sound sytem with rear wireless (inevitably they all have built in players at this range), i'd say go with samsung or sony. Pretty equal in quality.

How to make surround sound wireless?

KSUSCOTT

I have an older 2006 Yamaha Surround sound system and I am finally hooking it up to my new TV. Right now everything I have is controlled from my iPad remote app but I cant firgure out how to hook my surround system to it. Can you buy wireless adapters for it. If there is another remote or something I will buy it I just dont want to get a new system but this one is just fine.

Answer
No, you need to power the speakers, they do make rca to wireless transmitters (http://www.meritline.com/wireless-rca-video-audio-transmitter-receiver-2w---p-70241.aspx?source=fghdac) but that won't work unless your rear speakers have an integrated amp. You could buy a separate amp for the rears and then use some form of wireless transmitter but in the end it'd cost more than buying a new home theater system with wireless surround speakers.

Sorry, just being honest.

Try running speaker wire up through the ceiling or wall or run it along the wall the rears. Use paintable speaker wire and you could almost make the wires invisible: http://www.summitsource.com/product_info.php?ref=1&products_id=4765

Best of luck!
