Just because you don't get my question, you have the right to be an ignorant! I was talking about the place. Not just the emotional thing. I want to know what are the things you like in Singapore, you twit.

1) Culture : Singapore is a cosmopolitan society where people live harmoniously and interaction among different races are commonly seen. The immigrants of the past have given Singapore a mixture of Malay, Chinese, Indian, and European influences, all of which have intermingled.

2) Singlish : Singapore English usually come from other languages spoken in Singapore, especially Malay and Hokkien. Speakers of Singlish will usually end his sentence with a distinctive exclamation. The three most common are ah, lah, ley and what.

3) Sunny Island : Singapore is an ideal place for beach lovers, as you get the hot hot sun throughout the year. For those who enjoy the sun and the beach, just bring along your cooling apparels and hats when you're in Singapore.

4) Food : One of the best things about being in Singapore is undoubtedly the food. It is no secret that Singaporeans eat and drink with a passion. Some of Singapore delicacies include Satay (Originated by the Malays, but also sold by Chinese these days), Roti Prata (Indian "pizza"), Fried Kway Tiao (fried black noodles- normally served with cockles), Hokkien Noodles (seafood noodle delight), Hainanese Chicken Rice, and some of our local desserts like Ice Kachang (flavoured ice with ingredients like red bean and jelly), Chendol (coconut based dessert), Grass Jelly (a refreshing black jelly that cools down on a hot day) and Tao Suan (bean in sticky paste, topped by fried dough).

i was thinking of a 5.1-channel multimedia speaker system or maybe a HTIB. i intend to use it for watching dvd's, playing music from my ipod, console gaming and i also want to hook it up to a projector instead of a actual TV. looking for the best possible quality with a max budget of 400 us dollars. wall mountable sets are preferred. And also wondering if there could be any compatibility issues that could come up. please advise, oh and specific systems would help a lot more then random brands or if u have a link that could help pls pass it along. oh and im from singapore, thought i should add that.

i want to work and live in singapore. i am from a non-english speaking country but i want to teach english in singapore. is it impossible? in my country, there is no A level or O level. basically the education system is different. i have been teaching english for 11 years and now i also teach mandarin at school. i teach junior and senior high school. please, anybody who knows where i should start. i have been trying hard but the first requirement is one has to be a native english speaker. any other suggestions???? thanks in advance....

Firstly as a Chinese but NOT a mainlander, I would like to correct you about your understanding of Hanyu pinyin. Hanyu pinyin is NOT created by China but rather the Chinese worldwide created it with the intension to standardise the romanisation of Chinese characters. As many people have already claimed that Chinese is so and how difficult to learn, can you imagine how will the difficulty go if 100 or 1000 of different forms of romanisation exists everywhere?
Secondly, to see the good intention to adopt a standard system as a political move is rather unfair for anyone as if you are a Chinese speaker, you will understand how useful is the stadardised hanyu pinyin system to us. I'm also pretty sure that foreigneers are also very glad that they only have to use ONE system rather than seeing those 100 or 1000 different forms of romanisation everywhere and get themself so confused that they eventually gave up on learning Chinese.
Very ture indeed that hanyu pinyin is already a 'globalised method' from the fact that it exist where ever there are Chinese. We use hanyu pinyin in Singapore, China including Hong Kong, Australia, USA, Malaysia and many more countries where there are Chinese people... Taiwan's case is very special as I think one thing is got to do with the meanless politics-.- where they decided to refuse to use Hanyu pinyin but rather choose to keep the ancient system which we hardly use nowadays.
Nevertheless, when it comes to the 'real' Chinese language where Chinese characters are used instead of Hanyu pinyin, the Chinese that we use is all the same be it in Taiwan and China or other parts of the word. There is only difference between traditional and simplified Chinese characters. Many Chinese speakers can read the two forms of characters with ease so it is no a big issue.
In fact, other than the fact that children use hanyu pinyin, the next group of people who uses it most frequently is foreigneers. Hence, shouldn't this be the best explanation to show the effort to ease the process of learning the Chinese language for everyone?
Well, we are not here to discuss about politics, which is also something we outsiders cannot interfere. It will take days to explain the Chinese history and the differences in ideologies between China and Taiwan to get a full idea of what causes this existing conflict. Language wise, Chinese is afterall the language of ALL Chinese worldwide. I am glad that we have such an organised system for us to present the romanise version of our language to the world. In my opinion, the development of Hanyu pinyin has nothing to do with politics but merely an effort to be more organise for the benefit of the Chinese language learners.
