What's the best surround sound speaker system for a PS3 and HDTV?

Athiyk Dra

For gaming, Netflix, etc. What would be worth getting for a good price?

Answer
I don't think there's such thing as "best surround sound speaker system for a PS3" but I always suggest this next system from ONKYO because of two reasons: FIRST because it is the top of the line (from ONKYO) and SECOND because it has an incredible value, a complete THX system. I'm talking about the ONKYO HT-S9400THX 7.1 system (@ about $750). This is pretty much an ONKYO TX-NR616 or 626 receiver with all 8 ONKYO (THX) speakers included. Not like your SONY or SAMSUNG systems where you don't have much options to integrate or expand your system. And please don't consider BOSE as they are not even close to the best and you'll end up paying too much. Most people that have BOSE don't know much about audio systems, they just buy it because they believe in all their advertising. And if you don't like the system that I mentioned before for economic reasons or any other reason, you can consider an entry level DENON receiver and some decent JAMO or POLK speakers, you won't regret it. Good luck.

Will Logitech 970223-0403 X-540 5.1 Speaker System work for ps3?(NEED HELP PLEASE)?

Im wondering if the
Logitech 970223-0403 X-540 5.1 Speaker System (http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-970223-0403-X-540-Speaker-System/dp/B000JJM8XE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1247718019&sr=8-1)
Will work if i just plug it in the headphone jack in my Tv http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_05771528000P?keyword=vizio+32
It has a regular headphone jack and also one for a PC.
Please can anyone tell me if you know?

Answer
NO DON'T BUY THIS ONE....It's not designed for what you want to do. It is designed for PC gaming, not Game consoles. The description of the item lacks detail. But I suspect that it does not have the optical input required fro what you want to do. Your TV Has the capability of bringing in the 5.1 signal and sending the same signal to an A/V receiver. through the optical out (I looked at the TV specs) which would send it out to the speakers connected to it. The only way for this to work however, is that you connect the PS3 to the TV via 1 of the HDMI inputs. Or if you are using component (RGB) you need to get the cables necessary for connecting to the audio inputs that correlate with the RGB input. I don't have a PS3 so I don't know what cables come with it or if the HDMI port actually sends audio as well as video using the HDMI. Whatever you use, if the 5.1 channel signal goes from the PS3 to the TV, you can use the optical cable out to a high end AV receiver ( starting around $250 these days) and the 5.1 surround sound will be presented through the speakers when you select the appropriate input.

Old Speaker System?

Matt

I have an old speaker system and it's supposed to be used with a computer but I was wondering if it could be used with a PS3 or home theater system.
If there is anymore information out there about it the system is made by Altec Lansing and it is the model ADA885

Answer
If it was supposed to be a computer speaker system then it should be powered. It'll work with a PS3 but I wouldn't hook it up to a stereo system. It should have a fixed (line level) input. Your stereo won't do that (except for the sub output) and you'll likely blow the speakers.

Is there a way for me to re-direct the audio from coming out from the monitor to getting it to produce sound from another set of speakers? I'm going to buy an asus vx239h which has a built-in speaker system, but I'd rather use my Swans Hivi m10 for the sounds. (I'm only gonna connect the speakers to the monitor when I'm playing ps3).

@Starrysky

What makes you think I haven't tried that?. Anyway the things you stated are the specs only. If you're really gonna be a smart @$$ you could have said that it doesn't have an audio output so no a separate set of speakers won't work. Or something like, you could try and connect the speakers to the headphone jack, but it's not advisable.

Anyway going with the MX239h instead as it offers good internal speakers.

Answer
only by taking the back off and wiring in speakers or speaker connectors for external speakers

Where can i buy a cheap speaker system for my PS3?

ferg9310

I also have some speakers with just like a headphone jack as the only input. How would i be able to hook those up as well? Thanks in advance.

Answer
You can connect any powered computer speakers with a sub woofer to get some basic sound from your audio out of your PS3. You need to connect a female mini headphone to RCA male plugs cable, to connect your powered speakers headphone jack . Then you connect the male plugs of that cable to the analog audio out of your PS3. Here is the cable that you will need:

http://www.amazon.com/HOSA-CFR-210-Stereo-Female-Plugs/dp/B0000AJ692

Go to the PS3 sound menu and select sound to go out on analog audio out. To really enjoy PS3 sound, use a receiver with digital optical audio in or HDMI in, and some good brand speaker system, then you will experience it better.

What speakers should I buy for Sony PS3?

Hi guys and gals,

I've got a budget of about £300 to buy a speaker system.

I've been looking and all the decent systems have blu-ray players included. I don't need one as I have a PS3 which is more than capable and it seems silly to waste money on another blu-ray player.

I know the PS3 needs an digital optical input and was also looking for the possibility of rear wireless speakers!

Any suggestions would be exceedingly appreciated :)

Thank you very much

Answer
I managed to get a Sony Receiver and speakers (5.1) for £299 but this model is no longer being made. It has 2hdmi in and one hdmi out which is great for the PS3. you may be able to look around and find a similar deal.

What do i need in order to hook up a PC sound system to my flatscreen tv?

Mitch

Flatscreen: Apex 32" Class 720p 60Hz LCD HDTV -
PC sound system: Logitech LS21 2.1 Stereo Speaker System
I'm trying to connect them along with my PS3.

Answer
Your HDTV is a 5.1 device.

Your computer speakers are 2.1.

See the problem? You need something that will decode the optical from the HDTV as 5.1, then "cripple" the sound by down-converting it to 2.0. Then you need something that will connect the output to the headphone jacks which are standard on computer speakers.

Basically - it wont work, some asian company may make a device for this but it's not common or popular, and computer gear is NOT room filling or made to hook to home theater gear.

Thats 3 strikes I'm afraid.
