Which audio system (speakers, amplifier) should I use?

fireboat78

I have a room 15'x30' which is used for small gatherings of 20 people
We need a PA system setup.
Which speaker and amp should we get.? We already have xlr mics and a mixer
Would audio source amp-100 and dual lu43 pb speakers work?
My plan would be to hook up the xlr mic to the mixer which goes to the amp
Budget of $200 us

Answer
It sounds like you have an amp - "audio source 100 amp" - is that an amp? If you do not have an amp just get a Behringer EP2000 (good and cheap - I own three):

http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-EP2000-Professional-Accelerated-Technology/dp/B001W3BM24/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1362848353&sr=8-1&keywords=ep2000

I would not get those dual speakers myself - they are really not designed for PA systems - they are designed for background music.

Good speakers:

Answer
get separate amps for components speakers and subwoofers .your speaker has a recommended watts, of 600 rms. now the problem with that is, its a walmart brand speaker like sony xplodes these speakers are way over rated. if you get a solid amp like a alpine or a JL. they will put out true wattage. your speaker can truly only handle 400rms watts from a high end brand like that, if you get pioneer amp or a sony amp from walmart that says 600 watts rms thats the equivealent to alpins 400watts rms. so with that information you should get a nice high quality one channel class d amp. with about 4oo watts rms 800 peak.

this amp would be perfect for your sub.

What is the best wireless speaker system?

Rodolfo Cu

Right now, I have computer connected to a projector and 2 regular speakers for computer and plus 2.1 speakers including Sub-woofer all connected and it works very well,. Sounds pretty awesome.

But I wonder about a wireless Multi-speakers.
I'm thinking if there is such a thing like "wireless speakers that connect to sub woofer , something like that."

thinking like
"sub woofer connect to computer and ac outlet and then wireless speakers connected to sub woofer so I can move around the speakers.
is there such a think like that? or what is the best thing you can suggest similar to that.

Answer
Speakers need power. This means power comes from an amplifier and is delivered by speaker cables, or the speakers have a circuit inside which includes a wireless receiver and an amplifier. This in turn means each speaker needs more power than a conventional speaker, which in turn means either battery power or mains power. The louder you want to play the system the more power is required too.

Making speakers with wireless receivers and amplifier circuits and some sort of power source built in to each one is very expensive compared to simple and cheap-to-produce conventional PC speakers. It also makes for larger speakers. Most people don't appreciate why the speakers have to be larger and way more expensive, so wireless is a nice idea but often considered too expensive for "just some PC speakers".

There are some half-way-house solutions: The Rocketfish⢠- Universal Wireless Rear Speaker Kit for example. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/rocketfish-universal-wireless-rear-speaker-kit-black/8275528.p?id=1171058476489&skuId=8275528 As long at your speakers have an impedance of 4-16 Ohms then this will help get rid of the cables from the front of the room going to the back. The problem for PC speaker users is that those little rear speakers are often 2-3 Ohm or not even rated. Using low Ohms speakers with a box or amp designed for higher Ohms is a bad idea.

Edit.......

<Quote: Tech Savvy>
"Vizio wireless speakers are great. You can stream music to it from your phone and tablet as well"

Except that the rear speakers aren't wireless. The sub is wireless, sure. But the rear speakers have to be plugged in to the sub to work. So you still have speaker wires.

Can I connect bose speaker system directly with a philips dvd player?

bose acuastimass 3 series model 301 speaker system

Answer
Those speakers can't connect directly to a dvd player. An A/V receiver is needed to power the speakers unless your dvd player is a home theater in a box with the integrated tuner/receiver/amplifier. If it's one of those, then yes you can replace those stock speakers with your bose.
(lol...If it's one of those, you can connect your bose. I'm a poet and don't know it.)

2004 Chrystler Pacifica, no volume?, that has a Infinity speaker system, 200-watt amplifier, graphic equalizer?

Michalennn

I have a 2004 Chrystler Pacifica, that has a Infinity speaker system, 200-watt amplifier, graphic equalizer, everything works and turns on, Tv picture works, navigation system works, there is just no volume, and I was told it might be my graphic equalizer, can anyone please educate me more on this and let me know how to fix or check it. Thanks
All fuses are fine. Switched out player for new factory one so it would have no compatability issues, and still didnt work, switched out amp too in same manner, still didnt work, volume wise. Can you tell me where to locate the equalizer?

Answer
It can sometimes be hard to pinpoint a problem like this one. You might have to troubleshoot your system. The easiest thing to do is to check the fuse on your amp. Sometimes when you burn out a fuse on the amplifier you'll have problems with no sound. When you run the stereo at high volume, once in awhile you can blow a fuse or if you're grounding out someplace. But if it is a ground out problem that could really be a pain to find. If that's fine, check your other fuses throughout that contribute directly to your sound system like your factory fuse box. Keep in mind that decks can blow out as well. Sometimes they'll turn on and look like their running but that doesn't mean their not blown. Start from the fuses and work your way up. I wouldn't count out the equalizer but that might be the least of your problems to be honest with you. Good Luck!

about bose speaker system?

jeenu

hi every one i have just bought bose acoustimass 30 powered sub and cube speakers and i dont have any receiver do i really need a receiver or i can connect them to my samsung blue ray player if i have to buy a receiver for that which one is compatiable exept bose ones becoz its to expensive..thnx

Answer
The Bose system has an equalizer built in to compensate for the lousy quality of the miniture speakers. The amplifier only powers the subwoofer component. Thereofore you have to use an audio amplifier (or receiver) to power the speakers. While one of the (many) issues with Bose speakers is their use of proprietary connectors you can use any amp/receiver and don't need one made by Bose. All you have to do is make sure the right output on the amp is connected to the right input on the acoustimas ... using speaker wire (i.e with one conductor clearly differentiated from the other) to ensure correct "phasing" (+ to + or red to red, whichever approach your amp uses. It doesn't matter which wire is +/red, as long as all follow the same code).

In general you have wasted your money on Bose speakers. They are mediocre at best and way overpriced relative to many, many other options. Since the Acoustimass 30 was only sold until 2001 I assume you bought used ... so I hope you got them for a good price.

Can i connect a car subwoofer and amplifier to a PA speaker system?

Derek

I have a PA speaker system which is very loud and has great sound but has absolutely no bass. However, I also have a 15 Alpine Type R car subwoofer powered by a Kenwood 1800 Watt Mono car Amp. I would love to be able to connect this sub and amp to my PA system to create a great sound system for my house but I have no idea how to do it or if it is even possible... Can anybody help?

Answer
Yes, this can be done but things to consider is 1) How to power the car amp in your house? You could bring a cr battery in but that's only going to suppy the electrical current you need for a short time, then you will need to recharge it. My suggestion would be to invest in a "Regulated Power Suppy" to convert your house 120vac current to DC current like your car's electrical provides. Also to get the max power from you kenwood amp to you alpine car sub, you're going a power supply capable of delivering between 13.5 -14.4 volts DC which is the average range for most car electrical alternator voltage and what your car amp need to produce max power. ) Then ther's the matter of feeding the signal from your PA to you car amp. The safest way for this would be to use a "Line Level" signal say from the rec , or Record out jacks usually Red & White (RCA) type to the "Line In" Inputs of your car amp. After that it's just a matter of playing your music through your PA and adjusting the level on you kenwood to match your listening preference. Just remember when you increase the volume of the PA you may need to increase the level on your car amp as well since you are feeding a line level signal from the PA to the car amp. the PA volume control will not have and effect on the amp volume. In short what you want to do can indeed be done but there are easier ways to add the bass you want to you PA. Hope this helped you out.You may email me if you like at rudedog5876@gmail.com for some other options you want to consider.

Answer
I would recommend a 70v system. this will allow you to have many speakers connected to 1 amplifier. and you will be able to tune the volume at each of the speakers.

companies like TOA sell 70v speakers for indoor / outdoor , on wall or in wall mounting

I am making a portable speaker system, but I am not sure what battery would be best to power a pair of 3" 8 ohm speakers and a custom amplifier.

Answer
Use the amplifier's power requirements to determine what battery to use.

The voice coils of speakers are not to be connected to batteries;
therefore their impedance is immaterial to this consideration.
