Making 2.1 Channel Speaker to 4.1 channel?

I have Philips MMS4040F 2.1 speaker, i want to add 2 more satellite speaker. with it to make a 4.1.
How to do that? which type of 2 satellites i need to purchase? Is this harm my initial speaker system?

Adding two more speakers doesn't make it 4.1. For 4.1 you need four independent channels of information but Quadraphonic went out in the 1970's. These days most recordings are either 2 ch or 5 ch.

You can have four speakers set up as 2.1 but I doubt you can do this with the Philips. It almost certainly does not have the preamp outputs required to add an additional amplifier and you can't just connect additional speakers in parallel without overloading and damaging the amplifier in the Philips. Your best bet would be to just start over with a 5.1 receiver.

Akai AS-980 Reciever speakers?

I got an akai as-980 quadraphonic reciever. It works but I know nothing about the speaker system. They have to have 4 wires I'd guess because there are 6 speaker inputs with 4 plugs for each speaker. What are they called and are these speakers hard to find? Cam anyone shed some light on this?

hi matt hippie....the akai as-980 is a four channel stereo tuner/amplifier the four speaker plug/connectors are for connecting your speakers in a way what they called matrix four channel stereo....and the two speaker plug/connectors are for a two channel stereo connection...so you can run these speakers either way as i've just explained....hope this helps you out in some way matt and merry xmas!

6 AM to 2 AM the next day

At the time, the loudest sound system ever built for an outdoor concert . . . on stage, 32 boxes with two 24" speakers in each, giving 16 on each side of the stage, about 100 feet back from the stage, 16 of the same, giving full quadraphonic sound which was totally unbelievable when ELP hit the stage. I was right in the middle, 50 back from the stage.

Hey! Basically, My default output for audio is realtek speakers. When I plug my headphones in the front of the PC, it doesnt give me a separate audio output, rather it plays my speakers through my headphones. I was wondering if there was a way to make it treat my headphones as separate speakers and then I could choose to have my skype play only through my headphones, while playing something else out of my speakers.

Only a Quadraphonic system can do that. Check the control panel foe Realtek. It can be set there.

How to configure speakers?

Q. I have 2 x 2 speakers and i can`t make them work at the same time. With the audio driver (windows 7) I choose the Quadraphonic setting and when I click test all the 4 speakers are working well but in winamp or any game only two speakers are working.... What should I do ?

Go buy yourself a HOME THEATRE SYSTEM if you really like a surround sound and connect it to your computer. If not, well, you must always needed to changes your choice to suit the program that you are using, because different program or system may had different formation for a surround sound. Or, you can just add a four speakers amplifier with a two line jacks of left and right to your computer, well, that is the easiest way without any headache for to make a connection and it will work perfectly without the needs for to changes your computer speakers selection of formation in everytime that you had changes a program, and i'm sure by that, it will makes your four speakers to sounds umm... so good and dances like crazy hmm... but, ...oops there goes your neighbours, lol...

no sound out of new dell studio xps 8100 desk top?

i have 4 altec lansing speakers and a sub woofer. at first the front two would only work. now none of them work. i tried up dating the drivers for the sound and nothing. is there anything else that could be causing this issue?

Check your speaker configuration (Sound control panel, Playback tab)

Select Speakers and then click the properties button to show which jacks are active. Close the properties window and click Configure button to make sure you have the correct speaker configuration set (4 speaker should be quadraphonic?)

This assumes a Windows 7 system - which seems like a safe bet on a new Dell.
