can you recommend external speakers please?

I'm looking for external speakers for a digital piano. All I want to do is get rid of the muffled sound from the dp, no need to sound like Carnegie hall :)

The dp sounds terrific with headphones (specifically cheap $20 Skullcandy ear buds!) But I bought a pair of speakers and subwoofer by Logitech for $75 and it sounds slightly louder but still muffled.

Maybe it isn't as bad as I think but I'm comparing the sound to a real piano or with my earbuds and it just doesn't sound the same and I want it to sound better.

I'm surprised you think it sounds muffled. The Skull Candy buds probably sound "better" because they are in your ear, and louder. I thought the built-in amplifier and speaker system were pretty descent for a home digital, though I'll grant you that 2 x 10 cm is small for speakers trying to reproduce the frequency and dynamic range of a piano.

You'll probably find that higher wattage amplifiers and larger speakers will make a world of difference. But that will come at a cost. I'm guessing that a good deal of the reason for getting the SP250 was the price, so getting Genelec near-field monitors or a pair of QSC K-12 powered monitors is not in the cards.

Computer audio systems, even reasonably good ones, aren't designed for the dynamic and frequency ranges demanded by a piano. You will blow the speakers over time.

The HS50M monitors mentioned above might be a good solution.

It will work great. People worry way too much about matching watts with amps and speakers. What you need to do is watch the CLIP lights on the front of the amp when you are playing the system loudly - those lights indicate distortion and clipping - if they start to light up, turn it down. If you do that, your speakers will last a long time. If you ignore those lights, your speakers will be toast.

Speaker Setup in trouble need suggestions?

My fraternity house is need of new speaker system for our basement. Our basement dance floor area is about 20x20. Our current speakers are four EV 8ohms 200 watt sx100+'s

they are great speakers, but are very old. One blew out last year, and I have a feeling another is about to blow. I looked up the re cone price, and I think it's going to be around 100 bucks. What should we do? Re cone / trade in / get a whole new setup? Not sure about the budget yet, but we wouldnt like spending more than 300 bucks. We are currently running from a QSc pro amp 2450.

Also have a regular 2 channel Radioshack sound board

$300 isn't going to get you very far with a new system. In my book, that won't buy 1 good speaker.

The EV speakers you have are pretty good...you would just be replacing them total crap with a $300 budget.

Do the recone and buy yourself a new board.

Which Speakers For My Church?

I have been offered 4 speaker types and I wand to find out which is the best one in terms of audio and reliability for our church.

Option 1: QSC ADS82 speakers
Option 2: Deltec CX12 speakers
Option 3: Turbosound TCS-121 speakers
Option 4: Martin Audio AQ12 speakers

I have been putting together church sound systems for over 20 years.

You really need to download the PDF specifications for each speaker and look over them. I found the QSC, Turbosound and Martin here:

The Turbosound and Martin are pretty much the same speaker. You could go with either one.

I could not find a Deltec speaker or company anywhere.

Another great 12 inch speaker to consider is the JBL AC2122-95:

I installed four of these in my church and they look and sound great!

The QSC is not even close to the other two options. It is a great speaker but I would stick with a 12 inch speaker like the other two. It cannot handle as much power and it has a small 8 inch driver. The QSC will not have much bass.

Other than that my only other advice is to be very careful if you plan to hang these speakers from the ceiling. You really need to do this right becuase a heavy speaker could be deadly if it fell. Both the Turbosound and Martin have hardened hang points for suspending them from the ceiling.

What is an excellent speaker to use for outdoor/indoor live band.?

Our band has been using peavey amps and cabinets. we looking to upgrade to better mains and subs and amps. we play outdoors most of the time. Our peavey system was ok for 100 or so people. now that more people are showing up our sound is not reaching towards the back. We are running a presonus studiolive 32.4.2ai digital mixer. peavey PV series power amps and peavey sp2x mains and a peavey sp118x subs. (we were using a peavey rq series mixer. we needed more channels and wanted to start recording so we bought the digital mixer.)

You have a pretty good system as-is. I assume your sp2x speakers are on speaker stands. They need to be up high enough to get over peoples heads. That is the only way you will get the sound to the back of the crowd. Aside from that, you might want to look at your amps - the spx2 can handle 1000 watts. You might just want to upgrade to a more powerful amp for your mains and maybe subs:

Do you happen to know what would be the best thing to hook the speakers to, then my computer to that same thing. That way i'll just play the music off my computer.

Do yourself a favor & do not buy those speakers. They are very bottom line, you'll be throwing away your money.

And those are not home speakers. How many home speakers do you know of that use "1/4" phone jack inputs for connection to an amplifier"?

Those are PA speakers. Cheaply built, poor sounding, unreliable PA speakers. If you want to use PA speakers for your home, spend a little more money & buy something that not only sounds good, but will last you for the rest of your life. Plus cheap low end PA speakers like MTX, Gemini, Gemsound, GMI & Behringer aren't any where near as loud as real DJ speakers.

These three speaker recommendations are suitable for home use. Not all DJ speakers are suitable for home use. Some are designed for large avenues & have too long of a throw, which would sound terrible in the limited space of a living-room, bedroom, basement, or garage.

Is there a guitar amp where i can bypass the electronics?

Q. i have a decent multi-fx pedal, and i want an amp that i can only play the pedal through and not have the amp affect the tone. in other words, just go straight to the speaker without the electronics affecting the tone. is that possible? btw i can only spend up to $500 on it, so dont say tubes or anything like that. it needs to be good for gigging, too.

You can get rack mount amps, normally used for PA systems. They only provide power, no tone controls (typically). QSC, Behringer, Peavy, Carvin, etc... all make those types of amps. You may need a mixer depending on the amp. You can get some smaller wattage amps on Craigs list for around $100 if not less.
