klipsch or definitive technology?

popemidi

im putting together a 7.1 system that includes a onkyo sr605 receiver 50" samsung dlp samsung bluray... which of these speakers do you think is better?

Answer
KLIPSCH!!!! hands down go with klipsch. If you dont care about having big floor speakers go with a pair of the f-3's for the front and b-3's for the back and maybe b-2's or something else smaller for the surround back. For a sub get the klipsch 10" or 12". If you are thinking you dont want big bulky speakers go with the Quintet SL or the Quintet III system with either one of those subs and you will not be disappointed I promise.

Should I buy the Klipsch Quintet III or the Polk RM 75/85?

DSM

After a bit of reading, I kind of narrowed down to Klipsch Quintet III or the Polk RM 75/85's. Before I make a purchase, I deftly want to hear them out and I am just not able to find a audio store where I can do this in Houston.

Both of these have good reviews and I am really not sure which one of these should I buy...What would be your option? I have a Pioneer 21TXH.

Which store in Houston can i go and hear them out and which speakers among these would you go for or are there any better ones out there ( $500 - $600).

Thx.
I am visiting US and plan to take back home just 5.0 speaker system rather than 5.1. I intend to buy the Sub back home.

Answer
I like Lances suggestions. I knew that Klipsch bought them out, but I didn't realize how cheap they were right now.

However, I would like to point out that the most inefficient part of any sound system is the speaker itself. Only about 2% of the energy put into a speaker actually produces noise. The rest produces heat. So the speakers are the aspect of your sound system that you should really be concerned with more than any other. A really nice receiver with crappy speakers will always sound crappy. Personally, any time I look for a sound system (receiver and speakers), I plan on spending no more than 25% of my budget on the receiver. The rest goes into speaker. Buying speakers that are cheaper than your receiver is like putting go-cart tires on a Ferrari. Nice engine, but you will get crappy performance in the end.

These are at the top end of your budget, but I think you will find that they are a beautiful sounding set of speakers for the price.

Still, you may want to consider something a little more high end and get the most out of your receiver.

Give me any info that would be helpful in my purchase.

Answer
Here's a real good receiver for you, an Onkyo TX-SR607 7.1 which you can buy at Fry's Electronics for $499. Don't worry about wattage. How about speakers, what are you using? Get a Klipsch Synergy Quintet III 5 speakers for $499 and add a Klipsch Sub-10 $399 420 Watts, or Klipsch H500 5.1 set up but only 100 watt sub for $599 or the H1000 with 200 watt sub for $999. You can always add 2 extra speaker for the back (polk 85 series). This system will sound good and it will be reliable for years to come. You can go online to Home Theater Magazine and read reviews from speakers (low to high end), tv etc.

I purchased the Klipsch Quintet III system with the Klipsch 10" Subwoofer. It will all be pushed by my Harmon Kardon AV140 receiver.

Answer
monster cable makes nice wire but expensive as heck. go to your local radioshack and get their platinum series. both types of wire are made at the same factory with the same machines, you catch my drift. at least get a 14 guage wire

Connecting speaker systems to my ps3 and tv?

MaNgOhFrES

I know absolutely nothing about speaker set up. What speaker systems would be best for playing videogames and viewing tv. I have my ps3 connected by component and well, the cable dude came in and set up the...cable. Where do i start with finding the right speakers and having all the neccessary equipment for properly setting up speakers for tele viewing and to the playstation?

Answer
First you have to decide what kind of system you want and what you're willing to pay.

The basic sound system is stereo, where the left and right audio are played back through left and right speakers through a stereo receiver (radio and stereo amplifier in one unit).

The most basic surround system is a 2.1 system, where you have the left and right stereo speakers (the "2" part) and a powered subwoofer to play the low-frequency effect (LFE) channel sounds (the ".1" part. This is relatively inexpensive, but it's not rue surround sound. The signals are just processed to where you get certain delay components that make it sound like you have surround speakers.

The most common surround system for those with a bit of an expanded budget is a 5.1 surround system, where you have a surround sound receiver, front right/left speakers, a front center channel speaker, and rear right/left surround speakers, as well as a powered subwoofer for the LFE channel. This is available as an all-in-one unit (a surround receiver and set of speakers all in one box) called a home theater in a box, or HTiB. These are the cheaper systems you see for a coupla-few hundred dollars at WalMart.

The next step up is a 5.1 surround receiver and separate speakers (usually by different manufacturers). A decent 5.1 receiver will run you about $350 - $400, while a good set of speakers might be $500 - $600. Yamaha makes a couple of good receivers in this price range. And, Klipsch makes a good set of satellites (Quintet) and subwoofer (SW-10) in this price range that you will be very pleased with.

Manufacturers also make 6.1 and 7.1 surround receivers. But, I think this is overkill, both in price and performance. First, it's going to cost more for the receiver and you need additional speakers for the additional channels. And, most programming only comes in 5.1 at the most, anyway. Synthesized 6.1 and 7.1 is where they take the two rear surrounds of the 5.1 program source and run a monophonic component of that sound to the additional speakers (big whoop). All for an additional $500 to $1000 for the system.

To get the most out of your audio/video system, you would then run the video using an HDMI cable to the TV (to get full 1080p video), and run digital audio through the HDMI cable, or the digital coaxial or optical cable to the receiver (for true surround sound).

Anyone know anything about speakers and subs?

buzz on me

i am trying to get a sweet set up for my room. but i have no idea what companies are good, or what i need. basically i want lots of bass and like my floor to vibrate. yeah.

Answer
What you're describing is volume, not quality. Get a pair of cheap MTX speakers if you just want to "vibrate" your floor. But if you're serious about sound, get something that will produce accurate, vibrant sound like Klipsch or Polk Audio. With speakers, you truly get what you pay for. A nice system is the Klipsch Quintet System, Klipsch 10" sub, and the Yamaha 463 receiver. The package is $1300, but Best Buy has a deal that takes $300 off the package price. For $1000, its a great system.
