a car audio system isnt just subs. theres the head unit(cd player), speakers, subs, and amps for the main parts, more advanced systems include things like a capacitor and stuff.
the pros are you get a lot better sound with less distortion and its a lot louder.

im not sure what your spending limit is or what kind of car you have to know what size speakers u need but heres a basic setup guide to go for.

1. get a decent head unit. cd player, if you burn cd's go for 1 that plays mp3's then you can fit 100+ songs on a disk
2. get some good speakers. go with a component set up front and a set of 2way or 3way in the back.
3. from the sound of it you dont care about bass that can rattle house windows 2 blocks away so go with a set of 10" or 12" subs. go with something like polk, you can get really good prices, they sound really good and you dont need a huge amp to power them so you wont need to upgrade ur alternator and stuff. something like these

4. get an amp to match the subs. like if you went with the subs above that are 400watts rms you would want an amp that is 800watts rms. go with a mono amp for the subs. those subs are 4ohm so you can wire them together and take it down to 2ohm so get an amp that is 2ohm stable. as long as you stay below the total rms of the subs you'll be fine, some subs can handle more but you can risk blowing them.
5. an amp for your speakers will get them more power, but you dont have to do that you can just run them off the head unit and they will be fine

Getting new Car Speakers?

How much would it cost to get a new set of speakers and stereo in a 1999 ford explorer. My speakers sound terrible, fuzz, and i cant have any bass in my music or it sounds awful... can anyone point me in the right direction? i need something with an ipod plug in.

I personally love the pioneer product. Since you're in a ford (I believe) you need a double din radio. Here's an example of one...

That has an ipod hook up which will charge it as well as play your music. Itd be really nice.

As far as speakers go, I'd go for pioneer or alpine as I have had the best experience with them. They're not too expensive either but they'll last a while. If you want bass in your music but don't want a sub, definitely get some three way speakers. They're more expensive, but they have extra bass capabilities and make a HUGE difference in the sound quality. If you go to best buy, they'll guide you through the whole process but definitely get three way speakers.

If you go really nice on almost everything, probably you'll spend 5-6 hundred dollars. I wouldn't recommend spending too much less than that lest you have a system that goes out on you shortly after you put it in.

Installing speakers is quite easy - but the process depends on which speakers you want to replace and what factory system you have in your Camry - there were a number of different systems available.

However if you have never replaced speakers before and you are a bit worried about it, I would highly recommend purchasing a vehicle specific installation guide from http://www.crutchfield.com. I believe the guides are less than $5 USD. Just go to http://www.crutchfield.com, enter the specific information for your vehicle (top left of the page) and follow the navigation to install guides.

I have a Lexus lx 570 2011 it has mark Levinson speakers on it but there are not really loud I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me a way of keeping those speakers and having a louder and smoother sound at the same time, the quality of sound is very important using those speakers in the car or other suggestions are welcomed

How to remove rear speakers for a 1998 Honda Civic?

I bought some new speakers for my car (98' Honda Civic) and I don't know how to remove the regular back speakers so I can install the new ones. Can I get some instructions on how to remove them?

You don't need to cut the wires at all, I just got mine installed in 5 minutes with the adapter speaker plug, I got them from Amazon for 16 bucks but you save a lot of time and you don't mess the wire system of your car with the black tape and stuff.
Here is a quick guide to on how to remove the rear speakers form a coupe - with pictures and FREE. May or may not be the same for 1992-1995 models, I haven't seen one to compare.

Please do not be put off by this, it really is easy when you know how and the results from quality speakers are well worth the effort.

10mm Socket
12mm Socket

Know your enemy: Rear seats have a 40/60 split and can be folded down, but to get to the speakers they have to come out...

Fold down both seats and unclip the carpet trim from the back (just pull the carpet and the clips should pop out). Yep, that's my big sub woofer.

You need to unbolt the 4 10mm bolts holding the 40 seat in place, you can then pull it towards you and out.

Also do the two bolts holding in the 60 split seat

Next you need to unbolt the 10mm bolt on the right, then the 12mm on the left. Keep the bolts and brackets safe. When they are undone the 60 split seat should be able to come out.

Another 12mm bolt on this bracket.

Towards the centre of the seat is another 10mm bolt holding the lower seat in. Undo this and the seat should lift up from the back and unclip from the front.

Now the seats are out, nearly there....

...Well actually I lied, were not half way yet!

You need to loosen the right hand bolt (closest to the front seats) and undo the rear one. They were 14mm bolts on mine. Do both sides of the car.

Should have something like this...

Undo the Phillips screw in each rear panel...

The panels should unclip from the door frame and come out quite easily. The plastic cover on the parcel shelf (rear deck) should now unclip at the front to allow you to lift and pop the other clips. It will then come out.

You can now unclip and unscrew the old speakers and drop in your new ones. I'm putting in my Kenwood KFC9605 speakers. Make sure that they work and you are happy with them before you reassemble the car, you don't want to be doing this again in a hurry!!

Reassembly of the car is the reverse of the above process.

Just watch out on the 60 split seat, make sure you put the hinge in the bearing before you bolt it down!

What's the best in-dash CD player/satellite receiver plus speakers?

I am looking for an in-dash CD player that also receives satellite radio (I know, I have to subscribe to satellite). Are there units that have antennas built into them so I don't have to add an outside one? Does the model of my car matter? (I have a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis) What do I really need to look for, as a whole? Also, what do I need to look for in car stereo speakers? Are there decent ones for between 75 & 100 dollars?
