I'm thinking of buying surround sound. I don't have much money to spend, but the way i understand it all i have to buy is receiver, dvd player, and speakers? right? Can i buy only wireless speakers for the back two? Does the surround sound work for television or just dvds? help, tell me all you know please...

Answer
You have the right components in mind for a surround sound system. Yes, most systems will allow you to connect your TV to the system.

If you're interested in sound quality, wired rear speakers will be preferred. Crutchfield is a helpful website to get you started into the home theater. Their prices are middle ground, so I will also provide you with a price comparison website to let you see other prices from other online stores.

TIP: Look at brands such as Pioneer, JVC, and Yamaha in the $250-$500 for a complete system (i.e. home theater in a box, a.k.a. "HTIB"). I would avoid brands such as Sony and Bose due to their lack of performance value.

How Would You Rate A Dell Inspiron 1520 And What Should It Cost ?

Q. Can I add remote wireless outdoor speakers and about how much would they cost ?

Answer
My rating of a 1520 at $850.00 would be "Poor Value" (Running VISTA with 1GB RAM)

As for the speakers...are you looking for a high end system or the low priced option?

You can buy the $29.00 cheapies or the BOSE selection for many dollars more.

I want to sell this computer plus all accessories. I want to sell it for $1,500 (AUD).

What do you think I could sell it for?

i5 3470 (3.2 GHz, 6MB Cache, 3.6 GHz)
8GB 1600 MHz Kingston RAM
ASRock H77 PRO4-MVP
Intel H77 Chipset
Samsung DVD/CD drive
Asus Wireless card/router
Western Digital 1TB (SATA3)
Corsair 600 Watt
Coolermaster case
Nvidia GTX 660 2GB

Bonus
Windows 7 64-bit (offered completely updated)
Kaspersky Anti-virus 1yr
Creative dual speakers
Dell 21.5" IPS monitor
Keyboard and mouse
Will it sell at that price with everything all together?

Answer
Used, something like that will go fo around $600-$700 USD. PC parts are cheaper in the U.S. the value would be lower here. In Australia I'm not sure how much everything goes for, but I would imagine that $1500 AUD is a bit ambitious.

Can anyone recommend a good choice for a wireless home theatre system?

Answer
I would always chose Bose over anything else.

> Great sound quality, rich, deep base and high highs
> Great designs to match your interior - high quality wood
> Powered speakers have very ample power even for large rooms
> very high resale value
