looking for ipod speaker/dock system?

anyone know of a good , affordable ipod speaker? i want one that could charge my nano [3g] at the same time it plays music. and it'd be better if it had a clock too.
yes, thanks for an obvious answer sensarmy, i do not live in a box. i just want to know if anyone out there has one that they like, since i've bought some that i do not like.

iHome iH6 Dual-Alarm Clock Radio for iPod --99.95 it has the clock. My sister has one it's really good.

might be able to get it cheaper during the holiday...

there allot of Universal Dock out there .. but have to be careful because they might be to cheap, on the speakers..

since you have ipod I would just stick with with apple dock to make sure everything goes smooth..

I'd like an iPod dock or speaker system, so I'm looking into it. I have an iPod touch- I'm not sure if certain systems work only with certain iPods, so I thought I'd add that detail. I want something that's not so big, but definitely has great sound. As for price, nothing over $150. I'm not sure what the iHome is- how it's different from everything else, so it's be great if someone could clear that up too. Thanks!

my dock is a HMDX dock
it is great!!!
it's cheap and the sound is really good
the design is nice and modern and there are coloured rims and you can choose what colour you want on there
it is in shape of like a little ball
also there are dock adapters for different ipods in the box

^^^ The cheapest decent docking station with speakers I could find. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a remote, is that a deal breaker for you?



However, in the headphone department, I recomend the K 142 HD headphones from AKG.

Volume level questions when hooking speakers up to laptop?

I have a boss Ipod dock and just recently purchased the CableJive dockBoss cable. The cable plugs into the ipod dock and the other end is a headphone jack that i plug into my laptop.

My question is for the best sound quality (while protecting the speakers from blowing out) is it best to turn the laptop volume all the way up and adjust just the speaker systems volume? Or is it best to toggle with all 3 to find a median? Does it make any real difference on the pressure being put onto the speakers?

By 3 i mean the windows media/itunes volume + the computer volume + the ipod dock volume.
Right now I have the computer set to 90% volume, windows media player set to 70% volume (seems to change mainly the bass) and the dock speakers approx at 75% and some of the higher notes come out kind of strong. (mainly song intros with talking ect)
Oh realized I typed Boss lol, its Bose :)

With most sound chips, there's a point near the top of it's output range where the distortion begins to ramp up geometrically. That usually happens somewhere inside the top 10% or so of it's output. (In fact, it's that point where distortion ramps up sharply, and becomes excessive, which defines the upper limit of the chip's usable output range.)

So, to be reasonably certain you're getting a clean output off of a laptop sound chip (or an iPod, or a smart phone, or a tablet), I wouldn't turn it up past about 70% (or 80% if you urgently need the extra volume). It sounds like you're already doing that.
