well, lol, im researching this same thing right now. And so far from all the videos and info i have read and watched, it seems like a yes and a no... what i mean is that it does work with a ps3 with specific adapters, nevertheless it wont sound 5.1, will sound more like 2.1, what this means is that all speakers will sound but at the same time... so yea so far thats what i have found, and also that they sound good even without the 5.1 effect. The bad tho, is that if your have an xbox too or a pc, you cant use them all at the same time, you have to disconnect it and connect the system you are going to use. So so far i think im going to give them a shot ( you should check the videos out at youtube just type "logitech x-540 ps3" and some videos will come out)
-these speakers are made for pc gaming only, it is still compatible with a ps3 but with adapter cables and will not be 5.1 surround sound....
so search for those expensive home theaters, most are compatible 100% 5.1 surround sound with the ps3

I'm getting an hdtv tomorrow. How would i go to connect a speaker system to it? I'm gonna connect the ps3 through an HDMI cable.

Since the PS3 is connected to the TV you dont have to worry about it.

You just need to hook up your TV to the speakers. It really depends on the system but when you get it there will be instructions and most likely color coded cables that will match perfectly. Its all very simple.

Hi guys and gals,

I've got a budget of about £300 to buy a speaker system.

I've been looking and all the decent systems have blu-ray players included. I don't need one as I have a PS3 which is more than capable and it seems silly to waste money on another blu-ray player.

I know the PS3 needs an digital optical input and was also looking for the possibility of rear wireless speakers!

Any suggestions would be exceedingly appreciated :)

I managed to get a Sony Receiver and speakers (5.1) for £299 but this model is no longer being made. It has 2hdmi in and one hdmi out which is great for the PS3. you may be able to look around and find a similar deal.

Your HDTV is a 5.1 device.

Your computer speakers are 2.1.

See the problem? You need something that will decode the optical from the HDTV as 5.1, then "cripple" the sound by down-converting it to 2.0. Then you need something that will connect the output to the headphone jacks which are standard on computer speakers.

Basically - it wont work, some asian company may make a device for this but it's not common or popular, and computer gear is NOT room filling or made to hook to home theater gear.

Thats 3 strikes I'm afraid.

any surround sound system would do. Logitech are good at making compact speakers that are really powerfull. though the best sound i've experienced is truly SONY. They do use a bit more room but the sound quality is really good. Usualy if you are using a surround sound system, you will need to buy a HDMI cable or a Optical-output (not sure about the name) cable.

What is a decent home stereo system with analog audio inputs for under 200?

I am looking to connect both an ipod and a ps3 to a home stereo system (ps3 via white and red cables) and ipod hopefully with an ipod dock. I am wondering if there are any decent stereo systems available for under 200 that have at least an analog audio input.

Nothing decent in the $200 range. What you'll get is a cheap p.o.s import that will live a short life and the sound quality will be nauseating. Try looking for some used stuff on eBay. Should be able to get a 2 channel receiver and a pair of small speakers for that price. Just about all 2 channel receiver will have 3 to 5 analog inputs for your applications. Good luck!
