Wall mounted speakers for small restaurant? Wall mounted or very small receiver?

Looking in to buying a speaker system for music in a 400-500 sq. ft. restaurant front. Most custom restaurant systems are way too powerful and large for the room. I am considering running a home audio system but there's something a little tacky about that.

So, are there wall mounted speaker systems that don't require a subwoofer? That cover a wide spectrum of sound but don't need any extra punch? We don't need to crank the music and want to be space efficient.

Is there such an item as a cool looking wall mounted receiver? And how small do receiver systems get now? I've been out of the audio loop for a for a while.

Will run music with AirPlay on iPad. Need system to be as wireless as possible. Thanks!

(is this tl;dr material here? new to answers)

Answer
I own a restaurant, first thing you want to avoid is wireless. Why? Good question. Unless your router or internet connection can stay connected and work 100% 24/7 without need of reboot, okay then that's fine. But as we all know, these things need to be rebooted now and then and that will interrupt your service. It's just bad and embarrassing to have music stop in the middle of a song. Depending on how many speakers you want, best thing is just use in-wall ceiling speakers to have a more integrated look. Receiver can be hidden almost anywhere.

The truth is any plain speaker is fine. No one will notice how bad your stereo sounds or even how it looks. Well maybe if you have a fine dining restaurant then you want something more elegant and hidden, but most people will not care or even comment, except for what's on your playlist.

If full size sound is what you want, you really can't deny physics. Small speakers definitely will not provide that without a subwoofer. If in-wall ceiling speakers is out of the question, and bookshelf speakers is too large..Just off the top of my head, perhaps you can get a small set of PC speakers that uses a power outlet for power and just hook up the 3.5m directly to your iPad / Airplay? Then you won't need receiver.

In my restaurant I use 2 cheap outdoor-like speakers I cant even remember the brand. But they hook onto the wall with supplied brackets, hooked up through a old Onkyo integrated amp, playing through a ipod touch. Hope this info helps!

Answer
I have been using the iMainGo XP for iPad and love it! There is also the iMainGo X and iMainGo 2, which are for iPod/iPhone/iTouch, etc. All of them are a solid speaker system with big sound, and protect your device. I love the duality of having a case that is also a speaker system. I work with them and their products are pretty impressive out of all the speaker systems I've used. The speakers are versatile and work with many other products, including Kindle, notebooks and portable gaming devices (you can even plug in a guitar!).

Check it out on Amazon: http://amzn.to/ritvtj (where you can also read the reviews).

GOOD LUCK!

This is an edited version the description of the iPad

Apple's first tablet computer was the Newton MessagePad 100, introduced in 1993, which led to the creation of the ARM6 processor core with Acorn Computers. Apple also developed a prototype PowerBook Duo-based tablet, the PenLite, but decided not to sell it in order to avoid hurting MessagePad sales. Apple released several more Newton-based PDAs; the final one, the MessagePad 2100, was discontinued in 1998.

Apple re-entered the mobile-computing market in 2007 with the iPhone. Smaller than the iPad but featuring a camera and mobile phone, it pioneered the multitouch finger-sensitive touchscreen interface of Apple's iOS mobile operating system. By late 2009, the iPad's release had been rumored for several years. Such speculation mostly talked about "Apple's tablet"; specific names included iTablet and iSlate. The iPad was announced on January 27, 2010, by Steve Jobs at an Apple press conference at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.

Jobs later said Apple began developing the iPad before the iPhone, but temporarily shelved the effort upon realizing that its ideas would work just as well as a mobile phone

The iPad's touchscreen display is a 9.7 in (25 cm) liquid crystal display (1024 Ã 768 pixels) with fingerprint-resistant and scratch-resistant glass. Steve Jobs backed the choice of screen size, saying a 7-inch screen would be "too small to express the software." He said 10 inches was the minimum for a tablet screen.[29] Like the iPhone, the iPad is designed to be controlled by bare fingers; normal gloves and styli that prevent electrical conductivity may not be used, although there are special gloves and capacitive styli designed for this use. The display responds to two other sensors: an ambient light sensor to adjust screen brightness and a 3-axis accelerometer to sense iPad orientation and switch between portrait and landscape modes. Unlike the iPhone and iPod touch built-in applications, which work in three orientations (portrait, landscape-left and landscape-right), the iPad built-in applications support screen rotation in all four orientations (the three aforementioned ones along with upside-down),[33] meaning that the device has no intrinsic "native" orientation; only the relative position of the home button changes.
In total there are four physical switches on the iPad, including a home button below the display that returns the user to the main menu, and three plastic physical switches on the sides: wake/sleep and volume up/down, plus a third which, as of iOS 4.2, acts as a mute switch. Initially this switch was utilized to lock out the screen rotation function (reportedly to prevent unintended rotation when the user is lying down). However, with the iOS 4.2 update, this functionality was removed and rotation lock is now controlled with a software toggle via the iOS task switcher. There is no means to reassign the physical switches functionality in the official iOS release.

The iPad can use Wi-Fi network trilateration from Skyhook Wireless to provide location information to applications such as Google Maps. The 3G model contains A-GPS to allow its position to be calculated with GPS or relative to nearby cellphone towers; it also has a black plastic accent on the back side to improve 3G radio sensitivity.

For wired connectivity, the iPad has a proprietary Apple dock connector; it lacks the Ethernet and USB ports of larger computers.

The iPad has two internal speakers that push mono sound through two small sealed channels to the three audio ports carved into the bottom-right of the unit. A volume switch is on the right side of the unit.
A 3.5-mm TRS connector audio-out jack on the top-left corner of the device provides stereo sound for headphones with or without microphones and/or volume controls. The iPad also contains a microphone that can be used for voice recording.

The built-in Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR interface allows wireless headphones and keyboards to be used with the iPad. However, the iOS does not currently support file transfer via Bluetooth. iPad also features 1024 x 768 VGA video output for limited applications, [38]screen capture,[39] connecting an external display or television.

The iPad uses an internal rechargeable lithium-ion polymer battery (LiPo). The batteries are made in Taiwan by Simplo Technology, which makes 60% of them, and Dynapack International Technology. The iPad is designed to be charged with a high current (2 amperes) using the included 10 W USB power adapter. While it can be charged by a standard USB port from a computer, these are limited to 500 milliamperes (half an amp). As a result, if the iPad is turned on while connected to a normal USB computer port, it may charge much more slowly, or not at all. High-power USB ports found in newer Apple computers and accessories provide full charging capabilities.

Im looking to take advantage of the cyber monday deals today, and am looking for a portable speaker system that has very good base and would allow me to plug my ipod or ipad in without having to connect the speakers to a computer. What is the very best speaker system under $100 (cyber monday deals) with a lot of bass and good sound quality? Note: I am not looking for headphones

Answer
Jawbone Jambox wireless bluetooth speaker can be had for $119 on Amazon.com
I would think for the money Jawbone would be hard to beat. As you know you pay for bass, whatever you get will not raise eyebrows. A far better option would be to purchase a pair of Dayton Audio B652 bookshelf speakers for $43.83 ass to it LP-2020A Lepai Tripath Class-T Hi Fi Audio Mini Amp with power supply for $15.69. I assure you this would be the far better sounding set up under $100 anyone can imagine with money to spare. You may have to get a few cables for everything to come together but you would still be within your $100 budget. It will put a smile on your face every time you hear it.

Enjoy

I got an iPad 2 for Valentineâs Day. Any ideas for accessories or apps I need?

Alex Winte

I would be remiss for not plugging my speaker system (and case), which I had before the iPad cuz I work with the company. ;) Theyâre made by Portable Sound Labs â the speakers are on Amazon, theyâre really great sound/quality and not a ton of $$$. http://amzn.to/iMainGoXP).

â¦now what ELSE?

Answer
Get a fancy case so you protect your cool ipad! I am big fan of the more-thing.ca collection of ipad case. I have a Shocking series in black - it gives full protection, works as smart cover and kickstand, has a strap for carrying and came with screen protector. the duvet collection is also really nice, u can get 5% off using code luvacekardca and i highly recommend this. they are local based and great store!

Will a Bose Acoustimass 3 Speaker System work with an MP3 player/iPad?

Dark Lord

What I mean is, does it have a jack that I can plug into an MP3 player or an iPad? You know, the kind of common jack you find on the end of most headphones or earbuds. I don't know what it's called, but I'd like to know before I buy a $200 speaker system and find out I can't use it.

Answer
M advice would be to take the MP3 player and ipad to see if it does. It may or may not, Bose is not an open source system. I would think you can plug into the aux input on the volume dial and all is well, that is how it should be. Save yourself the headache and go through the trouble of connecting the devices and see for yourself. That would be your best bet.

Best.

How do I integrate and install wireless speakers onto a patio to use with my existing home surround sound?

Bob

The patio is 25 yards away from the house, and I have a small wifi connection from that location when I tested it. The download strength from speedtest.net was .46mbps. The current system is a Denon AVR-3803. What is the best way to add the wireless speakers, and can I control the whole sound system with an ipad? Thanks

Answer
First you would find a wireless speaker system that had that distance rating, which wont be too tough considering they are usually atleasts 150 foot range, for your pad to be used as a remote control you will need to download a remote control application from the app store. 2 that I found pretty cool are "I got control" app which is free , you will need to get an ir blaster that connects to your ipad for around 50 bucks( available at radio shack store or online, the other option is the "dijit" app which is also a free application, you will also need the adapter that hooks to your ipad, and for this app it is around 70 bucks, but it looks very cool and promises to be able to control almost any remote controlled device, I suggest downloading them both considering they are free and pick the one you like best before spending the money on any of the hardware that is required, unfortunately there is no way around getting additional hardware to make your ipad to work as a remote mainly because it does not send or receive infra red signal
