Any ideas on a Speaker System for my 18th Party?

Georgie :-

Something relatively low in price but with good sound quality at high volume that will be compatible with my ipod.

Alternatively, how could I plug my ipod into my Dad's Hi-Fi?
thanks chicagoinstaller that's really useful...but what is the cable called that I would have to buy to connect the ipod to my Dad's Hi-Fi?
ah waaait that's what "3.5mm stereo to RCA analog adapter" means...

Sorry! :-S

Answer
You would need an Ipod dock to just run speakers off you ipod, but if you had a set of amplified speakers you could also run this too from the ipod headphone jack and be ok.

Choices

EXPENSIVE but nice

In order to connect you Ipod into your father's stereo you would need a cable like this below

http://images.monoprice.com/productlargeimages/6652.jpg

Make sure you pay attention to the two ribs or stripes on the smaller connector (which means its a stereo connector) some come with less and some have more, but in this case you need a
"3.5mm stereo to RCA analog adapter."
This can plug into any input on the stereo except the phono or turntable input. Most should even have an input on the face of the unit for easy quick connections, if not just get the cable into the back input and leave it there when not using the ipod.

What is the best speaker system for a party (college atmosphere)?

Looking for a speaker system to put in our party room in our house. Need something that is loud and sounds good but without going crazy on the price. Anyone got any ideas on what to look for?

Answer
One of the best "party speakers" out there is the Cerwin-Vega ("AT" or "D" Series or newest "VE" Series) loudspeaker system in either a 12" three-way or the huge 15" three-way models. They don't need a lot of power to get very loud, and they put out chest pounding bass too! You can find these all over the web, and there are usually quite a few on eBay -new and used.

Another good choice is either the DCM KX-12 or KX-212 model.

The above choices can handle the largest rooms. However, if you want to stay away from large, heavy speakers, and you don't have a large room (e.g. under 400 sq. ft.), then a very reasonably priced floor speaker from MTX Audio is a good choice: the Monitor 600i.

Bottom line, as a rule of thumb when you're looking for "party speakers", look for specs that offer a high sensitivity (usually 90dB or higher), good, deep bass (30Hz or lower), and can handle at least 100 watts. Other than that, find the pair that looks the best to you. If you purchase locally, I recommend auditioning them first to see if the sound is good to you or not.

Keep in mind, however, "party speakers" are usually not designed for critical listening (a term often used by audiophiles), but rather designed for being loud, and likewise, "high-end" or "audiophile" speakers or not ideal for use as a party speaker usually because they require pinpoint positioning and typically have a lower sensitivity.

BEACH PARTY -What Speaker System?

sweetmango

Party on a beach - No mains electricity.
So therefore need a good, loud, bassy speaker system which is portable and run off something like a car battery.
Also needs to play music from Mp3

WHAT DO I USE!?

Answer
I'm assuming a boom box with D-cell batteries isn't what you had in mind for your music, so here's my recommendation for power.

Car batteries have shallow cycle charges because they aren't meant to run with a high drain for long duration; they only provide short bursts of high energy to get your car started and are supposed to be charged and kept charged by your vehicle's electrical system when the engine is running.

For your electrical needs, I'd advise a gas-powered portable generator or the use of a deep cycle marine battery. A deep cycle battery will last longer in the situation you describe than a car battery while a gas generator will provide electricity so long as there's fuel in its tank (and, with moderate load, a gas generator can run for hours on a single tank).

For a gas generator, a stereo receiver/amplifier with durable speakers would be best; merely connect your MP3 player's headphone or auxiliary output to the receiver's auxiliary input using a 1/8 inch-to-cinch (RCA) adapter cable.

For a marine battery, with the use of a DC-to-AC power inverter of sufficient wattage capacity, a large shelf system might work. But, your time may be limited to a few hours until the battery needs to be recharged.

Your best bet is a gas generator. I think you probably don't want to buy a generator so you will likely benefit from rental. Check out your local hardware stores to see if they have rentals available.

For playing music, you likely will only need a small generator, which will be easier to haul and cheaper to rent, if available.

As for the audio equipment, ask your friends if they have any they will allow you to borrow. Again, you only need a moderately powerful component receiver/amplifier and a pair of speakers with power ratings commensurate with the amplifier's capacity.

Forgot to add: for the stereo equipment and speakers, you may also want to find a way to sit them on some sort of pedestal or a table. Something to keep them from being exposed to sand.

Of course, keep everything electrical away from the water and don't underestimate the tide.

Party Speaker System Help?

Josh

So me and my friends just rented a house at college for the year. We have so far thrown one party and it was successful for the most part, except for one little thing; our audio system was weak as hell.

We are looking into DJ equipment as well (basic mixers and cdj systems and the like), but for this question I am more focused on the audio aspect.

So the first thing I would like answered is what are some cheaper audio systems that provide enough power and bass to cover a four-door garage (which we have in our backyard as a part of the house where we plan on hosting our dance parties) with plenty of loud music. I have seen a bunch of set ups where there massive boxes with subs and speakers n tweeters all in one, and others with massive subs and then speakers/tweeters on poles and vice versa, but what would the cheapest (and by cheap i mean from about $500-$1000 systems) set up to deliver a good amount of sound to a space that size.

My second question is if I can use speakers from my old surround sound home theatre system and hook them up to w/e set up we use. Also, can the massive boxes from the home theatre systems (not sure what they are called but its what everything is plugged into) can be used to hook up speakers systems as mentioned in the first question.

Thank you for any and all answers and assistance, it really means a lot. Also, links to sound systems would be really helpful too so i can check em out and get an idea of what the pricing will be, thanks!!

Answer
If you can spend between $500 - $1000, you can get a nice system. You need:

two big speakers

power amp

dj mixer

That basically it and you still have money to spare. That system will ROCK your garage. Please do not use home stereo (theater) equipment. It will be weak.

Can i connect two different speaker systems to play one song?

vgab1626

O.K so I have an iHome speaker and my friend has a JBL speaker. At parties one of the speakers is never enough, so i'm wondering if its possible to have a cord connecting the two speakers systems so that the ipod playing on one of the systems can play on the other as well. Both speakers have audio-in and video-out holes on the back.

How do I play music on 2 separate stereo systems simultaneously?

SuzyQ

I have one stereo/speaker system in my family room (Yamaha AV receiver RX-V661) and the other stereo/speaker system (Sony FM Stereo/FM-AM Receiver STR-D665) is upstairs in my bonus room. There are no wires between these two systems. I also want 2 sets of wireless speakers for my deck and sun room. When I have a party, I want all of them to play the same songs from my PC media server. Is this possible?

Answer
Great question Suzy- I'm trying to figure out the same.
But I'm finding that it's simplest to do it all wireless. So Split the media server OUT signal to wirelessly xmit to both stereos..âthe wireless party speakers system already came with wireless signal thrower from the PC right. ? so your server OUT signal must split to 4 .
⺠2 stereos and the 2 wireless. good luck-

What kind of speakers do you use with an iPod?

BG

If you want to use an iPod for party music in a large meeting room, what kind of speaker system would you use? I mean, lower budget.

Answer
The two best speaker systems are the Bose Sounddock and the iPod Hi-Fi. I have the Bose and I love it, although the Hi-Fi is better for parties, it has a better equilizer and bass... They are pricy though... The best for the cheaper speakers are the Altec Lansing speakers... They usually go for around $100-$120...
