What is the best portable speaker system for ipods and ipads under $100?

Derek

Im looking to take advantage of the cyber monday deals today, and am looking for a portable speaker system that has very good base and would allow me to plug my ipod or ipad in without having to connect the speakers to a computer. What is the very best speaker system under $100 (cyber monday deals) with a lot of bass and good sound quality? Note: I am not looking for headphones

Answer
Jawbone Jambox wireless bluetooth speaker can be had for $119 on Amazon.com
I would think for the money Jawbone would be hard to beat. As you know you pay for bass, whatever you get will not raise eyebrows. A far better option would be to purchase a pair of Dayton Audio B652 bookshelf speakers for $43.83 ass to it LP-2020A Lepai Tripath Class-T Hi Fi Audio Mini Amp with power supply for $15.69. I assure you this would be the far better sounding set up under $100 anyone can imagine with money to spare. You may have to get a few cables for everything to come together but you would still be within your $100 budget. It will put a smile on your face every time you hear it.

Enjoy

Installing SONOS a whole-house speaker system with wall mounted speakers?

Duncan

The wiring and installation would not be an issue as I am having a large renovation done on the both storeys of my house, and want to install a SONOS system throughout a bathroom, a living room and a kitchen, through Bose wall-mounted cube speakers. I would prefer to use my iPhone, iPod or Mac as a controller, and also have a wireless router located next to the living room. As the price of these SONOS systems are very expensive, I was wondering what components I would need and how much each would cost?

Answer
You're going to love the Sonos! I have four zone players, one dedicated for my home theatre and three more as sources into an existing distributed audio system. The iPhone works ok to control it but it seems the iPhone has trouble maintaining connection with the wi-fi, the iPad works much better for a controller.

Where are the wires for your in-wall speakers? All coming together in a closet some place? If so, you can just put all your Sonos players there. You will need the Sonos zone bridge to connect to your router with a wire, not wireless. Or you can connect one Sonos zone player to the router with a wire and it can function as the bridge. Personally I have a network HDD down stairs connected to the router and the Sonos Zone bridge also connected to the router. The zone players are all four upstairs in the control closet for the home theatre and distributed audio system. All that is wireless, only the Zone bridge needs to be connected to the router.

They make zone players with preamp output like mine and they also make them with built in amplifiers. In your case you may want to just get the ones with the amplifiers built in to connect to your existing wall speakers. Alternatively if all the speaker wires do come together at one place you could buy a multi channel amplifier and use it to drive the speakers and use the Sonos Zone player with preamp output. In my case I have two twelve channel amplifiers powering eleven zones. Two six zone controllers are connected to the two amplifiers. The controllers have eight sources, three of the sources are supplied by Sonos Zone players. I can have different music on the three Sonos Zone players and the distributed audio controllers can send any one of those three to any room. They can also send anything from the remaining five sources to any room. Eventually I would like to eliminate the old system and just get more Sonos Zone players and make the whole system Sonos but as you mentioned, Sonos is not cheap! The upgrade is on the wish list however:-)

Probably the best solution for you is to just use the Sonos players with amplifiers built in. Although, your Bose cubes have no bass and I do not believe the Sonos with the amplifier has any sort of subwoofer output. You may want to think about that. If you get the Sonos with preamp output you can route that through a crossover and send bass to a separate subwoofer. You may want to add wall mounted subwoofers to go with those cubes. In that case definitely get the Sonos players with preamp output. You may want to check, the Sonos with an amp may also have preamp out so in that case that would be ideal.

Have fun, you will be amazed at how well Sonos works!

Wall mounted speakers for small restaurant? Wall mounted or very small receiver?

Looking in to buying a speaker system for music in a 400-500 sq. ft. restaurant front. Most custom restaurant systems are way too powerful and large for the room. I am considering running a home audio system but there's something a little tacky about that.

So, are there wall mounted speaker systems that don't require a subwoofer? That cover a wide spectrum of sound but don't need any extra punch? We don't need to crank the music and want to be space efficient.

Is there such an item as a cool looking wall mounted receiver? And how small do receiver systems get now? I've been out of the audio loop for a for a while.

Will run music with AirPlay on iPad. Need system to be as wireless as possible. Thanks!

(is this tl;dr material here? new to answers)

Answer
I own a restaurant, first thing you want to avoid is wireless. Why? Good question. Unless your router or internet connection can stay connected and work 100% 24/7 without need of reboot, okay then that's fine. But as we all know, these things need to be rebooted now and then and that will interrupt your service. It's just bad and embarrassing to have music stop in the middle of a song. Depending on how many speakers you want, best thing is just use in-wall ceiling speakers to have a more integrated look. Receiver can be hidden almost anywhere.

The truth is any plain speaker is fine. No one will notice how bad your stereo sounds or even how it looks. Well maybe if you have a fine dining restaurant then you want something more elegant and hidden, but most people will not care or even comment, except for what's on your playlist.

If full size sound is what you want, you really can't deny physics. Small speakers definitely will not provide that without a subwoofer. If in-wall ceiling speakers is out of the question, and bookshelf speakers is too large..Just off the top of my head, perhaps you can get a small set of PC speakers that uses a power outlet for power and just hook up the 3.5m directly to your iPad / Airplay? Then you won't need receiver.

In my restaurant I use 2 cheap outdoor-like speakers I cant even remember the brand. But they hook onto the wall with supplied brackets, hooked up through a old Onkyo integrated amp, playing through a ipod touch. Hope this info helps!

What are Good speakers for iPad and iPhone?

JLG

I want good speakers I can play my music and iheart radio on. I have a iPad and iPhone I will probably use my iPad more because it has more space on it for my music. Do you know of any good high quality speakers for Less that 100$. Thanks

Answer
I have been using the iMainGo XP for iPad and love it! There is also the iMainGo X and iMainGo 2, which are for iPod/iPhone/iTouch, etc. All of them are a solid speaker system with big sound, and protect your device. I love the duality of having a case that is also a speaker system. I work with them and their products are pretty impressive out of all the speaker systems I've used. The speakers are versatile and work with many other products, including Kindle, notebooks and portable gaming devices (you can even plug in a guitar!).

Wireless iPad speakers?

Brycee

I got my mom an iPad for her birthday, but for Christmas I know she wants speakers. I was thinking it would be cool to find some speakers for her iPad that work wirelessly or through bluetooth. I was wondering if there was such a thing, and, if there is, what is a really good set of wireless speakers? If there is not a wireless set, do you guys have any other recommendations for iPad speakers?

Answer
On wireless speakers you could play music from iPad, iPhone, MP3 player, computer, TV, or video. You could read more about it on http://www.home-wlan.com/wireless-speaker-system.html.

How do I wire my iPad Mini into my car?

Corbett

I plan on replacing my current stereo system with an iPad Mini. I understand the physical type aspect or removing the current deck and building housing for the iPad but as far as the electrical and audio wiring part goes I'm lost. Once I have a housing for the iPad in the dash what all do i need to convert that signal to play through my speakers. I currently have a cord for my iphone hardwired into the car but I think it goes through the current system with i plan to remove and replace with the iPad. If you at least know what i need as far as an adapter, amp, etc and not necessarily how to do it let me know! also if you know of a guide posted online anywhere tell me! thank you.

Answer
well all you would need is some rca cables that go to a female port, and an Auxillary cord for the ipad mini.

What are some good USB-only speakers for a laptop (one wire only)?

I'm looking for an inexpensive speaker system that uses a USB wire only to connect to the computer. The best one I've found is $30, which is a bit too much. Any suggestions or recommendations?

What is the max output current for a USB laptop port?
I have connected to my HP/Compac NC6120 laptop a pair of speakers system in the USB.
How many amperes does the USB port support?

The speakers system drains about 400 mA.

Answer
The specification is a maximum of 5 volts & 500mA. That's why iPads need a special charger. They require 10 volts.
