for 369.99 this is an exceptional deal. i bought this system about a month ago and was blown away by the sound and power of the subwoofer. i do recommend that you buy 16 guage speaker wire instead of the cheap wire they provide you with. you will notice a big difference in sound. i also would recommend a new subwoofer cable. also make sure to run digital/optical wires to get true 5.1 sound. all together yo are going to end up spending around 450 but will not be disappointed

Whats a good home theater system under $500 that can send video and audio through HDMI?

Answer
GOOD is a word some people throw around a lot.

ive heard people describe computer speakers as "good" and i've never heard a pair that come even close to adequate for real music listening. .

"GOOD" speakers cost more than $500 by themselves if you want the whole range of sound

i bought a panasonic system for under that much and its ok for movies and tv but i would never describe it as "GOOD"
it doesnt make music sound good at all.its too boomy with no definition. there is no control beyond a handful of preprogramed surround effects

Answer
My choice would be the Onkyo TX-SR504 and a pair of BIC Acoustech HT-75 floorstanding loudspeakers. I think your dad will appreciate the system's great sound, good looks, and great quality -perhaps the best value under $500.

What is the best speaker system for under 700 USD, 500 pounds. Loud loud sub and loud loud clear speakers?

Mak

I really wanna know what kinda of sound system I could buy that would blow the roof off and yet still sound really good for under 500 British pounds (700 USD). I wanna connect it to my computer. I have heard of the Klipsch promedia 5.1 and Logitech z 5500 but wondering if i could buy something for non-computer use that can still be connected to the computer or buy a sub and speakers separately to make an awesome kit. I only have a small room

Answer
Home theater in a box systems are OK, but the build overall quality isn't that great.

Your best bet, would be to do some research, shop around, and build a theater system yourself. You will bet much better overall quality and you have the freedom of choice as far as parts go.

What you will need is:
-- 5.1 Receiver with your preference of audio connections (Optical, RCA, HMDI).
-- Front (left and right) channel speakers.
-- Center channel speaker.
-- Rear channel speakers.
-- Sub-woofer(s).
-- Cables/hook-ups.

It sounds like a daunting task, but it isn't as hard as it looks. It's a little time-consuming though. In the end, you will be much happier with the results.

Look at the reviews online for the products. They will really help you and inform you of problems with the products. Some stores even have home theater components on display to allow you to hear them.

I'm not too familiar with retailers and sites that will deliver to the UK, so I can't really help you on that part.

Good luck!

OiOiOiOi

I have an older desktop that is beginning to become very slow (it's from 2003), as well as pretty obsolete. It is a Dell Dimension 4550 with a CRT monitor. Does anyone have any advice/directions on how I could either upgrade all or most of the components of this computer, or how to build an entirely different system for under $500?

If any more details are needed about my current desktop, just let me know :o) Thanks!

Answer
upgrading a computer from 2003 makes no sense. the parts are simply too old for reusing them in a new build, not even hard drives and optical drives because they have an IDE interface. the latest motherboards don't have them anymore.

however, here's a $500 build for a computer built on the new Sandy Bridge platform

cpu: Intel Pentium G840 Sandy Bridge 2.8GHz LGA1155 ($89)
motherboard: Foxconn H61MX LGA 1155 Intel H61 ($55)
ram: G.SKILL NS 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1333 ($27)
graphics card: EVGA 01G-P3-1450-RX GeForce GTS 450 (Fermi) 1GB, recertified ($90)
hard drive: Seagate Barracuda ST500DM002 500GB 7200 RPM ($40)
optical drive: LITE-ON DVD Burner - Bulk Black SATA Model iHAS124-04 ($20)
power supply: XIGMATEK NRP-PC 400W 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active ($35)
case: COOLER MASTER Elite 430 Mid Tower ($50)
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM ($95)
total: $500.87 ex.shipping, all parts from Newegg.com

assumption is you use your old monitor, speakers, keyboard & mouse

Whats a good home theater in a box system?

Im looking for a home theater system (HTIB) that's under 500$.
Does anyone know of any good ones? I'm not looking for anything
big and expensive just something that sounds loud and good.
I don't need anything like a real cinema/theater experience.
I'm gonna put it in medium sized house room. I have the
Logitech X-540 Speakers and i think they are good
but now i wanna upgrade into a HTIB system.
Anyone know of any good ones?

Answer
HTIB are not reliable nor are they upgradeable. Just get this http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-HT-S3400-Channel-Theater-Receiver/dp/B004O0TRDI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1310180830&sr=8-1 and add a blu ray player and you are still under 500

What is the best home theater system at a low price?

Matt

I would like some recommendations for good audio speaker systems at a low price. I am on a budget, and would like to find a great sounding system with a subwoofer for $350-$550. I'm sure they're out there! Please help!

Thank you

Answer
Well, you're not clear on what exactly you need.

A good HT audio system includes a home theater audio receiver, a set of speakers, in budget systems, we're talking 5.1 systems, and maybe some of the source devices, such as a disc player, be it an upconverting DVD, or a BluRay.

The first thing is that the all in one systems that include the disc player in with the control unit are just garbage. They tend to have bad speakers, and ones which have proprietary connections, so you cannot use them without that system's control unit. Then, there's the fact that having the disc player be built in with the control unit of the system means that you cannot later upgrade it, and that if it breaks, your whole system is out of action.

No, if you want good sound, and good connectivity, plus the ability to upgrade one part of the system without replacing 100% of it, then you want a separate audio receiver, and a proper home theater speaker set made by a company that specialises in speakers.

A good pick on Amaz*n would be a Yamaha 371BL receiver, going for $190 (list price $250), then add a Polk 705 5.1 speaker system for $250 (list price of $600). Add in some 16 gauge speaker wire (100 feet for about $12), and some connecting cables (digital optical cable-connects TV audio out to the receiver, so that you can listen to the TV's sound through the HT system-$5; HDMI cables to connect the disc player to the receiver, then a second one going from the receiver to the TV, $3 each; and a subwoofer cable, about $8), and you'll be set for good sound for years to come.

Call that just under $500, all included.
