home entertainment system speakers?

pychuta431

I just got a bass speaker to hook up to my tv, i had to use an adapter and hook it into a headphone jack. That worked but now the sound only comes through the bass speaker. how do i get it to come through the tv as well

Answer
Yes when using the headphone jack output it then shuts off the output to the speakers, so no you cannot hook it up the way you have it. It would depend weather your TV has a pair of variable RCA left and right audio output jacks on the back, This then would allow the main speakers to play and would also vary the output to the subwoofer so the volumes would also be able to track together.

Problem there might be that most audio outputs from TV's are fixed so check to see if the audio output of your TV is variable. It might have a switch on the back or in the TV's menu allow the output to be selected to fixed or variable. If its fixed only no you it will not work.

If it is a variable output then you have to combine the left and right channels to make a single mono signal (you can use a pair of RCA y adapters you can get at radioshack) and combine the left and right to make a single mono signal.

i am trying to build a home entertainment system what are the best speakers?

James L

My parents are trying to build a home entertainment system what are the best speakers that are under 500 dollors, i would really prefer something between 200 and 300 thou if I can get good quality speakers for that much.

Answer
Spend the $500, even more would be better, speakers are the most important part of sound. I don't get the $1000 on a receiver and only $200 on speakers, stupid. $1000 on speakers and $200 on the receiver.

At or around $500 it doesn't really matter as long as it's not Bose (stay away from Bose)

Boston Acoustics MCS 100 Home Theater Speaker ~$500

Polk Audio RM85 Home Theater Speaker System ~$500

Mirage NANOSAT Home Theater Speaker System ~$600

These are approximates you might find them cheaper.

There are many others. Remember you get what you pay for (well not bose, with them you get even less, way less), things cost more for a reason.

i have a dav-hdx265 sony home entertainment system and the Duraband tv with only has a video and audio slot and one other slot that says earphones. would i be able to get the left, right surround speaker, left, right, and center speakers if i get stereo audio cables and hook one end to the system and the other to the the tv? the tv only has one audio slot which kind of confuses me considering the end of a audio cable has more then one color cable.

ps: i have a cable that is connected to the earphones slot on the TV to the Sony home entertainment system slot called audio in/a cal mic and i only the left and right speakers work. i would like to know if stereo audio cables for a couple of bucks would solve my speaker issue and listen to all my speakers,

Answer
You can't get real surround sound from stereo. You might have a setting on your receiver/player that will give you double stereo or pro logic, but if the signal isn't there, then it can't be played.

How do home entertainment systems with surround sound work?

what???

All I can find is that the system will work with dvd's. If I buy one and hook it up will the surround sound work with my cable tv?? Is there something special I have to do to make it work with my cable tv. What should I look for in a home entertainment system when purchasing one.

Answer
You will get full functionality from the surround with DVD's because they are MADE to use all the channels (particularly the rear ones). The rear usually providee the background sounds-not the conversations, but the sound of the person walking across the carpet. Cable TV is NOT mastered for surround, so you will not get all your system involved. But if you have good speakers, it will still sound good.
