What is the best three piece speaker system for a computer?

shadouse

I am going to build a new computer, this one is not VISTA compatible. I decided to get some good speakers. Trouble is most places have very few you can listen to before you buy.

Answer
I've read good reviews for these speakers:

M-Audio Studiophile LX4 2.1 System
http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/LX421System-main.html

And for less money you can check these out:
Logitech® Z-2300
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/CA/EN,CRID=2173,CONTENTID=9372#Features

I have the Z-5300's and they are great hence that is why I'm also recommending the Z-2300 they should be good also.

Computer Speakers vs. Home Theater System?

Duong H

I plan to buy some new speakers to hook them up with my laptop and my LCD TV. I watch movies and listen to music at home a lot, so sound quality is pretty much the key factor here. That of the home theater systems is great, but I don't want to pay for the DVD or Blu ray player that comes along with the system. Should I still invest in a home theater system, or should I save up to buy some really good computer speakers? Please give me some suggestions! Thanks!

Btw, my budget is around or below $350.

Answer
I wouldn't get a HTIB (home-theater-in-a-box) system if you want good sound quality. Just get a decent home theater receiver and a matched set of speakers.

For a receiver, I'd go with something from Yamaha, Denon, or Onkyo. They all have decent receivers in the $350-550 range. I'll put a couple of examples in Source(s) below. My choice would be the Yamaha RX-A700.

For speakers, the best I've heard and read about would be a system from Definitive Technology (also known as DefTech), their ProCinema 800 or 1000 system. They're not cheap (the ProCinema 800 system runs about $1,200), but they sound like they cost a lot more than that. Great reviews all over the web, too.

If your notebook PC has a Blu-ray reader built in, just use that as your HD movie source, or get a separate player. Or get a Sony Playstation 3 and use the built-in Blu-ray player in it.

Hope that helped!

UPDATE: Okay, just saw your budget. In that case, your best bet is something along the lines of this system, which includes a lower-end receiver and acceptable speakers:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882120182

It's not going to knock your socks off, but for the price it'll likely sound fine, much better than a computer speaker system.

What is a good speaker system for $150 or less?

I just got birthday money for a speaker system and I'm looking for the best sound for my money. I've been looking at the Logitech z-2300, but they seem kind of outdated? These will be used on my computer. I won't listen to them on too high of volume, but I'd like them to be able to still sound clear even when turned all the way up.
Thanks.

Answer
You really do get what you pay for with speakers. Your best bet is to go on Bestbuy.com, tigerdirect.com, newegg.com, and sears.com and check out reviews of speakers. Every brand has their flops and golden speakers. Why not listen to someone who has already owned them?

What computer sound system can you suggest, for a guy who wants to make electronic music?

Arlh

Hey everyone
Christmas is coming up and i wanted to add a few wishes to my wishlist. Does anyone out here have any recommendations for a great computer sound system (speakers and bass). In particular, something that doesnt cost much more than 250£, but still has a kicking bass and top-notch sound quality, if that is even possible.
On a side note, do you have any recommendations for a good midi keyboard?

Answer
You really need to go out and listen for yourself. For everyone that claims that brand x or model y is the best, there is an equal opposite opinion. What some people call deep bass others won't, or they will find it loose or boomy. Since you will be making electronic music through them, they will essentially be part of the instrument, which is probably not a good thing. With electric guitar, the speakers are a big part of the sound, which is why so many guitar plug ins for recording have speaker emulation. You will probably want the speakers as neutral or 'clinical' sounding as possible, to avoid having the sounds dependent on your particular speakers. Also, make sure you look at the issue of durability. You can put out some pretty nasty waveforms digitally, and this can fry high frequency drivers and crossovers in cheaper speakers. Another concern would be what listening environment the speakers will be placed in. Near field monitors are usually not very good at imaging, except in a very tightly defined area. In other words, high frequency beaming means the treble response will drop off if the listener is not right in the sweet spot, where the full range comes through, so these would not make good speakers to fill a room. There's a ton of choices, so your best bet is to stick with speakers sold by music stores, rather than trying to get the most watts for the least money. Of all the websites I've found, http://www.Sweetwater.com has the widest selection, best organization and most thorough descriptions and reviews overall. So, I'd start there and narrow down the choices to something manageable and then search for a couple of more reviews on other sites, and then search for the best price/service deal.

As for a midi keyboard, that depends on what you are looking for: a strict midi controller, a keyboard with built in sound capability, or something with integrated control surface, such as transport controls for start/stop while recording, pads for percussion, etc. Something else to research at Sweetwater.

What parts do I need to build a gaming computer?

best computer speaker system review
on Four Recommendations of the Best Computer Speakers under 200 dollars :
best computer speaker system review image

speric10

I would like to get computer parts for Christmas so I can have a High-End Computer that's will run say Skyrim and Fraps with zero lag. If you can list the part, and what I'm looking for in the part, that will help. Thanks.

Answer
INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO BUILD
1

Check the system requirements of the games you intend to play. You will need to purchase the parts for the games with the highest system requirements.
2

Find a good retailer for purchasing the parts of your gaming computer. Read plenty of reviews not only for the store you wish to purchase your hardware from, but also for the hardware itself.
3

Purchase the CPU separately from the motherboard. If you think you might upgrade the CPU in the future, the motherboard should be able to take a faster CPU than the one you've chosen. Your motherboard should have multiple PCI upgrade slots, as well as a PCI express or AGP slot. Also make sure that it has as many USB ports as you will need for various devices such as an Internet access point, a mouse and a joystick.
4

Follow your motherboard manufacturer's instructions for purchasing RAM rigorously. For example, if the motherboard manufacturer says you need 240-pin DDR3 SDRAM DIMMs, of 1 Gigabyte each, with a speed of 1333, 1066 or 800 MHz you must purchase RAM which fits these specifications exactly. Purchasing the wrong RAM will result in your computer failing to operate. You will need at least 1 to 2 Gigabytes of memory to play most graphics-intensive games effectively.
5

Purchase the largest and fastest hard drive you can afford. In most cases, you will want a SATA drive. Avoid SCSI drives, which don't offer much additional performance for their high price tag.
6

Purchase a PCI Express video card if your motherboard supports the specification. Otherwise, get an AGP card. You'll want to at least get the graphics card which supports most demanding game. The most common choices are nVidia GeForce and ATI Radeon. Look for GPU speed, graphics memory and which version of Pixel Shader the card supports.
7

Get an audio card which meets your needs. If you play 3D games, you may need a sound card which processes 3D sound. You may also need a special sound card to support other devices, such as MIDI devices, special headphones, special speakers or input devices.
8

Select a case which will house all of your internal devices. Make sure your case and motherboard have the same form factor. Pay special attention to whether or not any of your internal devices have front-facing panels, as you will need to purchase a case which can hold these. You will need a power supply of at least 300 watts to power your unit. You may also need a CPU cooling fan if you have a particularly fast processor.
9

Choose a CD-ROM and/or DVD-ROM drive for your computer. There are many combo drives which will fit the bill. Whatever you do, make sure you get a rewritable drive with plenty of speed. Then you can ensure your games will play properly, and that you will be able to burn any necessary files to disk.
10

Select your monitor. Whether you go with LCD or CRT, you will thank yourself for getting a large flat screen monitor. For more advanced gaming, you can get speaker systems with four or more speakers which will greatly enhance your game play. Also, you will need a mouse and keyboard for your computer. You may also need a joystick or headphones, a DSL or cable modem, a router, or a wireless access point if you're planning to play games on the Internet. You will also need an operating system to run your computer.
11

Assemble your gaming computer, using extreme caution. Start with installing the CPU, heat sink, cooling fan and RAM on the motherboard. Then install the power supply in the case. Install the motherboard and connect it to the power supply. Install any front-facing devices. Install any cards in the upgrade sockets. Next install the hard drive, CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives. Connect peripheral devices only after all internal parts have been fully installed. Power on your gaming computer and troubleshoot as necessary.

Can you please recommend some quality computer speakers to me?

stabbingas

My monitor has speakers attached to it but they do not exactly emit quality sound. I'm having a hard time deciding which speakers to purchase and which brand I should trust. I saw the Logitech X-240 at Best Buy but it got OK reviews from various websites I visited. What would you pick? I'm trying to stay at least below $100.00
Thanks for any info you can give me.

Answer
So, you are looking for a computer speaker system.

If you really want to listen to quality music, I wouldn't go with the Logitech X-240. It is a very weak and low-end speaker system. I wouldn't buy a speaker system directly from a store since the prices are usually 20-30% higher as they have to meet their high costs.

Speakers are something we don't buy that often. Good you are doing some research, reading reviews, and asking for opinions in order to make a right purchase. The quality of sound is very important especially if you like listening music.

I recently got this Logitech speaker system for about $100.

I found the deal at http://www.dealjuggler.com/Logitech-Z-Cinema-Advanced-USB-Surround-Sound-System---Only-$79.99.html
I believe the sale is through Compusa.

I don't know why they are selling it so cheap. It might be a website error. When I compared the price to other stores, it is sold for over $220. The list price on it is $299.99. Compusa does charge about $30 for shipping, which brings the final cost to $110.

The speaker system is awesome. The clarity of sound is unbelievable. I got it before the price changes.

The total power of Logitech X-240 is only 50 Watts, the total power of the system I recommend has 180 watts. It comes with a remote control.

Read some reviews on some websites. Buy.com has some good reviews: http://www.buy.com/prod/logitech-z-cinema-advanced-surround-sound-system-logitech-z-cin-ma/q/loc/111/207324170.html
They are selling it for $236.26 however.

Hope the above was helpful,

Enjoy...

What is the best speaker system for laptop?

Have 12 hours of music on laptop and want a more compact speaker system than the 2 speaker and sub-woofer system.
Can we hook it up to our stereo and run house speakers? We're having a outside party and would like to be able to use the music

Answer
There are many options for speakers as you probably already know. I personally like speakers from Creative labs.
www.creativelabs.com Also, check out cnet.com and search on speakers for evaluations and consumer reviews. As for connecting to your home stereo, yes, it is very possible. All you need is a cable that connects from the computer output to the stereo's input. You can buy them pretty cheap from computer store, electronic stores, and super stores.

What to look for in a speaker system?

joesphB

Im looking for a powerful speaker system to use with my computer for playing music. Im looking for as powerful of a system that could fit under a desk for a reasonable price. What specs should I be looking for in terms of watts etc.

Answer
Look for the reviews and the price. Trust me, that's all you need.

If you want to try to decide for yourself look for max wattage (although this doesn't always mean louder/clearer sound), speaker sizes, types of speakers included (tweeter, mid-range, woofer, subwoofer), whether the sub (if included) is ported or not, frequency response (although it can be misleading) and try finding out the materials used (wood is good and some plastics can be good, cheap plastic = resonance = bad sound).
Here's a few systems a can recommend: http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/shop_online/digital_music_systems/computer_speakers/companion_2/index.jsp - No sub but sound pretty good
http://store.cambridgesoundworks.com/Cambridge-SoundWorks-Amplified-Computer-Speaker/dp/B004LUL216 - Sound good, cheap, decent sub.
http://store.cambridgesoundworks.com/Cambridge-SoundWorks-MicroWorks-Computer-Speaker/dp/B00345FI14 - Sounds great, great sub, hefty price though (250)

Good luck, hope I helped.
