home theater system under $2000?

Hi i'm totally new to AV system and wondering if my considerations look ok.

I don't want to clutter up our living room with 5 speakers, so I am going with 2.1 system, and chose KEF speakers.
Not sure how well other components matches up the speakers.
Appreciate any comment in advance.

Three days and no answer? I think you will be well pleased with your selection. I haven't heard these particular speakers but have fond memories of the KEF speakers that I have heard. The Denon is a solid pick as well as the Pioneer, Without doing alot of research, the only thing I would do is to compare the receiver and the DVD player against others and against the next model up in the line, since you are still under budget and see what you get for the extra money. I assume you have listened to the speakers and would only suggest that if you can, listen to the setup in your own home and make sure they sound the way you like and if not available for home trial, that you can trade in or at the very least, take some music you are familiar with to the shop to listen to make sure you get the sound you are looking for.

If you are buying these online and can't demo, I would check to see if there is anything local that you could actually listen to and if that is not possible, well...you are probably OK anyway, Good Luck,

Heres a challenge, You must get a computer that is better than this one, pre built, and with shipping (to VA) and it must be under 2000$.
Other rules: must be intel processor, at least 800mhz ram, no case side windows, blu ray, and nvidia graphics. You dont need a mouse, keyboard, or monitor, or speakers.

try to beat this 2000$ system :) once resolved, il tell you were i get it :)

Could i use an old speaker system in my car?

I have an old set of speakers that are about 6" from an old hi fi which were pretty good speakers, and i was wondering whether i could either use them in my car as actual speakers (obviously change the connectors) or whether i could box them and turn them into a sort of sealed bass box?
Sorry if it sounds stupid, but i'm a bit of a noob when it comes to speakers an electronics, so any extra help would be appreciated.

Q. i have no clue what to put in i want alot of bass so i can be heard coming down the street but not so much that i cant hear the song and im willing to spend around 150-200 smackaroos

You won't really get large bass from speakers, b/c the woofer itself is not large enough to reproduce the low frequency end of the system. You can get decent bass with Kicker or Alpine, but you'll want to get a sub or two if you want a full-spectrum system.

In car audio, you get what you pay for. If you buy a crappy Boss stereo instead of an Alpine or Pioneer stereo, you'll probably be sending the Boss stereo in for warranty issues.

Brands that are good for the following categories are:

Amp: Top 5: Rockford Fosgate, Hifonics, Alpine, Kicker, Infinity.
Honorable Mentions: Kicker, Polk Audio, Boston Acoustics, Pioneer.

Speaker: Top 5: Focal, Rockford Fosgate, Kicker, Infinity, Alpine.
Honorable Mentions: Boston Acoustics, Kenwood, Hifonics, Polk Audio, JL.

Subwoofer: Top 5: Fi, Alpine, Kicker, Rockford Fosgate, Pioneer Premier.

When you upgrade anything in your system, it's best to upgrade everything, because every component will compliment each other to make the best sounding system.

A rule of thumb when designing a custom system is that when you add (a) subwoofer(s) you need to follow the following formula when going for SQ (Sound Quality) instead of SPL (Sound Pressure Level): Total RMS (Root Mean Squared OR Constant Wattage) of all speakers should be double to figure the RMS that the subs should be. i.e. If you have a 4-speaker system that has 50w RMS per speaker, then you'd 50 x 4 giving you 200. Then take 200 x 2 which gives you 400. That means that your system should have a subwoofer(s) with 400w RMS.
